Oh yeah yesterday I went to my C programming professor's office hours to ask about what's being covered in class tomorrow. Since I can't go bc of my PT appointment overlapping with it & I'm apparently the kind of student that cares about attending every single class now.

While I was there, I ended up chatting with him about a few things, including my current standing in the class. He asked what I got on the midterm exam, & I answered it was an 87, and he told me I was one of the top 5 or 6 scores in the Whole Class (this being a like. Maybe 70 or so person class). Top score was a 92 or 93 (idr lol) & the class average was a 72. Apparently there were a few of us in the upper 80s/lower 90s, but most people got 70s or lower. And once he does the curve on the exam, he said I'd probably end up with a 97 or so on the exam. So yay!!!

And then he told me how he's noticed how I come to class every day and am really active with taking notes and answering questions. Bc I also sit up front all the time lmao. Hadn't even realized how much of a damned teacher's pet I've been being, but I've been Trying to be a good student this year. But he said I was the type of student that if I got an 88% or smth in the class, he'd likely bump me up to a 90% so I'd get an A lol. But he also said so long as I keep up with how I have been, I could possibly get a 100% in the class by the end (bc I've been there for all the extra credit questions in class and whatever).

And just. I went there bc I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything important in class on Wednesday, and I ended up having my ego stroked for Real. Felt good to have my efforts be recognized.

honestly i want to keep studying kanji so bad and i feel worse about it bc i was able to do school and work and everything else AND kanji last semester. but this semester is harder.

Tbh the strangest and most concerning thing about kids that I’ve observed get steadily worse is how these kids just…don’t know how to use a computer???

Like if you put a 12-15 year old kid and my 50 something year old mom next to each other and asked them to copy and paste using a computer, both would look at me like a deer in headlights!!

And yes I know some of this is because schools just don’t really have computer classes anymore (like I had ones that taught “proper” typing, Microsoft office programs like Word and PowerPoint, etc.) but like??? Every school I’ve been to so far has had computers for students so they’re all on devices all the time yet still don’t know how to use them.

Hell, they barely know how to type a URL in! Like! Huh! I’m genuinely concerned about them not knowing how to use a computer properly and how they use it so freely without proper thought and care as to what they put out into the world.

i mean re: ipad kids not actually learning how to use computers i think its a combination of 1) kids not being born knowing how to do stuff like i didn't know a lot of basic stuff abt computers until i started using mine to do enough things that i ended up with weird bugs i needed to fix, 2) software companies intentionally making their systems more opaque so the user has less and less obvious agency and things are more hidden, like the only reason i even know that you can clean the junk left over from installs beyond deleting the application is that i spent two days trying to figure it out after i installed avast on bad info, and 3) straight up misinformation from the most prominent people in the tech industry and new tech worshippers in general. like if you trust apple tech support you'll end up believing a lot of wrong things about how computers work but you won't realize that unless you happen to be told by someone or find a search result of people discussing the real mechanics. i do think the solution is better computer education but for the moment youre not gonna get that or even get that considered in schools, what you need to do is teach that 12 yr old how to use qbittorrent yourself.

i have a course where we have to send a homework to the prof by e-mail every week and then we get a short feedback from him. last week i didn't get any feedback so i asked him briefly during this week's homework whether he got my mail. now the dude said he didn't get it and “in dubio pro reo”, i'm allowed to “miss” class twice anyway like in face-to-face seminars and maybe it's in his spam folder. and like??? there is no fucking “dubio”. the mail is in my sent-folder. it was sent. i didnt "miss” class. if you think it could be in your spam folder…then..…just check if it is?????? bro how am i supposed to make sure now that he gets my homework in the future?? just check your spam regularly like normal ppl. boy i hate incompetence
