bodyswap au with sy in sqh's body and sqh in sqq's body
i like to hc that sj has chronic pain from recurrent qi deviations and his terrible childhood, so sqh is not really surprised with that. he does question how on earth sy just goes with it so easily though. like peerless cucumber??? not complaining about smth on sqh's novel??? sounds very unlikely.
the (kind of) funny thing is sy was terminally ill in his prev life so he's very very used to chronic pain. it just doesn't click in his funky little brain that it's not normal. he just assumed that it was something that came along with his transmigration, so he ignores it. even the pain of without-a-cure is easily disregarded. (mqf was having a Lot of Thoughts regarding sqq's pain tolerance).
so sqh is like "BRO why aren't you saying anything about the pain??? everything hurts???"
and sy goes "what pain??? oh. oh yeah that must be from me."
"haha..."
"wait that wasn't from me?"
"BRO PUT DOWN THE SHOE"
depending on the timeline lqg and lbh are worried. yqy is, as always, very worried. sqh gets discovered pretty quickly bc of his hamster vibes. sy has no idea how to run an ding, but they seem to be doing pretty well without his input!! the merchants scramble to give cqm what they need when he smiles at them. (the merchants are absolutely terrified of sqh smiling).
#svsss#shen yuan#shang qinghua#cumplane#platonic vibes in my head but could be romantic#an ding clocks sy as Not SQH bc he thinks bread is worth 2 gold coins#qing jing clocks sqh as Not SQQ bc his vibes are hamster and not crane#lbh clocks sqh as Not Shizun the moment he sees sqq (he wasn't given a headpat)!#sqh after the swap is fixed: bro i think we need to talk about our past lives#sy desperately repressing his emotions: sure ig#anyway happy ending for all bc the system crashed and died bc of the swap

JiuYuan plot bunny
Shen Yuan transmigrates/reincarnates waay before the plot even begins, as a somewhat rich second or third son of a merchant family (cliché or clasic background? You decide) not specially sick nor a priority for his family as he's not likely to inherit almost anything he is send to cultivate to a small sect. Because who else will want their unremarkable son?
Turns out ranting about poetry in the street with a vendor is a sure way to make someone important want their unremarkable son.
Enter the current Lord of Qing Jing who saw a gremlin with taste and opinions and immediately wanted him. Also the immediate moment when Shen Yuan finds out where exactly he was reborn in (pray for him). So Shen Yuan gets to join directly into QJP if he passes the other test and well, the story wont go on if he doesn't so let's say he does.
His dumbass tries to make everyone believe he's lazy to avoid work like he did back home but Aha! Shizun is on his bs so in no time he's made head disciple. Natural teacher, excellent memory and talented swordsman (This nerd got too excited by swords and practiced so much he now is the best of his generation and he desperately wants you to know he didn't want for this to happen) it's like he was made to lead QJP!
Side note: LQG will be made head disciple of BZP in a year or so, that's why SY is the generation's best, currently.
Here comes the boy! Absolutely traumatized feral kitten Shen Jiu gets into CQM and QJP out of season and with his general attitude immediately gets enemies everywhere. Not problem! Da-Shixiong will show you around and- Oh? You don't want Da-Shixiong to speak with you? Alright. Just remember to get to dinner and sleep well, goodnight!
And just like that you get an oblivious Shen Yuan respecting a hesitantly curious Shen Jiu who, in turn, decides that the best thing to do with this interest is to find blackmail on SY and take his place as head disciple.
Cue shenanigans and hijinks with stalker SJ and unsuspecting SY. And them getting closer by basically respecting SJ's space and time and being a decent human?! What?!
So like bonding with a cat. Slow, respectfully and with lots and lots of treats. Once Shen Yuan figured out Shen Jiu's weakness is just sweets it's all over. Now hes SJ's shixiong and no one else's. No, shut up A-Yuan, they are not worth our time.
Does he trust SY unconditionally? He's getting there. Nighthunts and being saved like a damsel in distress once in a while helps, even if he gets hissy and pretends to not like it. More so when SY immediately turns to him for both counsel on investigations and to make sure he's safe while in the hunts. Also Shixiong spends almost all his time helping him in fixing his cultivation and teaching him the arts, even when no one else would give a shit, so he gets extra points by being a good boy to his A-Jiu.
Shen Yuan? He thinks he's being a good bro and helping SJ fix whatever made him such an ass in PIDW. He doesn't know what happened before SJ went to CQM nor his past as a slave, only thought he looked like a feral cat and acted accordingly. And yes, calling him A-Jiu is absolutely necessary to that recovery.
In the middle of this SY tries to make contact with TLJ to help him either run away with SXY or take out the OPM so the tragedy doesn't happend. But shit hits the fan and SY gets outed as a demon sympathizer when the sealing under a mountain still happens but he tries to reason with the CQM's sect leader that the demon was innocent.
No one can prove that he was a traitor but under the added presure of public sentiment he's punished severely. Sect leader gives him two choices; He either leaves and retrieves a mega ultra rare mcguffin that'll take him 20 years to get or gets banished immediately and losses any standing he has with the sect.
In simple terms: Prove your loyalty with this very difficult quest or leave.
As a pseudo-compromise sect leader promised no one will take his place if he leaves for the quest nor will they banish SJ for being so close to a posible traitor. SY, naturally, accepts the quest with all the spite and grief of someone who failed his true quest of saving his best friend and the world too he supposes.
But QJP cannot be without a Head disciple nor a Peak Lord! Because plot twist, the lords are preparing to ascend in the next like 5 years. Sect leader knew this, and this is his way to force QJ's peak lord to appoint a different head disciple when SY is away anyways. If that happens SY will lose everything anyways, even if he comes back.
So the strategists get together and make a plan.
Shen Yuan will leave in his quest but before that he'll marry someone trusted that can be acting peak lord in his absence but will not usurp his place. Doble plot twist! That person is Shen Jiu because just as SJ got mellower with SY's influence so did SY get more paranoid. He only trust his dear shidi and no one else but oh how could he force his shidi into- Oh? You'll do it? Why do i have to be the wif-
And they marry in semi secret, taking a small moment for SJ to make him doble promise to come back for him and to give his own doble promise to wait for his return. SJ doesn't like this, not one bit. But this time he's safe, in a position of power and tentatively ready to trust again. He'd rather have his husband with him at least for their wedding night but oh well, they don't get that. They make arrangements for SY to send letters to the WRP so SJ can know how he's doing even if he can't receive any in exchange. It'll be a lonely 20 years.
Shen Yuan leaves and Shen Jiu gets appointed acting head disciple and then acting peak lord. With his silks and his husband's name as a shield (Qingqiu is SY's, but he can use it because they married) he rules QJP much more detached than in PIDW, almost completely ignoring the disciples. This is his A-Yuan's work after all and if he wants it done he better hurry and come do it himself. They've always joked that SY would teach while SJ would govern the peak, even before ever discussing marriage (It didn't matter that A-Yuan didn't know they would eventually get married. They would have regardless)
And Yue Qingyuan you didn't ask? He's in the background wanting to talk to Xiao-Jiu constantly but SJ doesn't need him nor want him. SY's therapy helped him let go if not forgive YQY, he's at the point where he can just ignore him. YQY on the other hand is guiltily ecstatic SY is out of the picture and Xiao-Jiu can be peak lord and rule at his side. Just like he wanted!
Like that 15 years pass. SJ still gets a reputation of going to brothels even if its to read his hubby's letters and sleep. And at this point all other peak lords either forgot he's technically just acting peak lord or never knew there was another Shen-Shixiong who should be peak lord instead.
At this point I'm not sure how to proceed. It'll have to be either:
a) Shen Yuan comes back during the demon invasion or
b) He comes when they are having a peak lord meeting for conveniences sake
Let's do invasion for dramatic purposes.
So you have a supremely pissed off SJ dealing with the demons and watching as the runt of his peak desperately tries to beat his opponent while making a mockery out of their QJP fighting style (LBH is actually doing pretty good, SJ is just Like Thatâą) when suddenly a sword only he recognizes flies faster than a bullet to stop the defeated demon from attacking the little beast and the whole place falls into silence. SJ can hear his pulse in his ears, he almost can't breathe.
The disciples are looking at him for instructions but he can't think of anything as the most beautiful face he has ever seen slowly walks out of the trees into the improvised arena. His hair is finally long now, but not even close to well cared for. His clothes dusty and well worn but not threadbare nor stained with ink like it usually was in their disciple days. His A-Yuan is glorious as he makes the demons run like the pathetic bugs they are.
LQG has come too but there's not more fighting to be had, only a couple reunited at last. SJ sends decorum through the window and yanks his A-Yuan into a long awaited kiss in front of basically every disciple and an enraged and flustered LQG (Man is having the weirdest awakening)
SY is surprised at first but quickly reciprocates, finally at peace with his feelings. Because guess what, 15 years of pinning + letters that slowly become romantic without the fear of retribution will do just fine for him to admit he fell in love with his husband at some point. He was scared shitless of SJ reaction to him coming back and it was only that promise what made him go home regardless. A-Jiu can hate him, but he is NOT breaking that promise. He even made it 5 years earlier, isn't he such a good husband?
Later in the emergency meating LQG is still screaming at them for shameless and inmoral and how could this be the first thing Shen Yuan does when he comes back when they could've just spared
And everyone else (minus YQY, SQH and the beast peak lord) are just like What? Who's this? And SY looks at YQY disapprovingly (He knows YQY covets his wife and purposely didn't tell them) and explains he's the QJ peak lord and SJ as his husband has been ruling QJ in his stead for the past 15 years. And yes, that's why SJ is sitting in his lap.
When the whole story comes out everyone is more surprised to know they are married than the fact SY made the last sect leader so angry he was basically given a suicide mission (Not even YQY knew that) but don't worry! He has absolutely no inclination of taking his A-Jiu's position away. He'd rather teach his little disciples and let his wife to berate their martial siblings as is his right (Someone said they'll be happy having SY instead of SJ in meetings from now on and He Did Not Like That) So they'll share the name Qingqiu as QJ has two peak lords from now on.
Now if they'll excuse them they have a wedding night to finally enjoy.

Let's talk about the clock keepers boundary!
(warning: spoilers until chapter 124!!)
I've had some guess on where they could be from so let's look at what we have in the manga for now. I will keep things on surface level for the most part but it's just some things I noticed!
The first mention of the town is in chapter 111, where we finally have a view on their boundary.
A lot of fans already guessed from their clothes that they were not from Japan, this panel definitely confirms it and even points more precizely to a European country, mostly Western Europe. And also a country where Winter with snow exist.
It's also not an English speaking country, since Akane cannot understand the language and we know he has english classes at school.
Now there are several things we can look at to have more clues!
First, the architecture.
This type of house is called Timbered framed houses. Itâs important to note that the roofs on those houses are really really sharp here. Which means theywere built for snow, so it can slide off the roofs more easily. The trees are also pines, something that can be found in a lot of Europe. (wood was needed to be able to create houses made of wood/with visible Framework( Little note: I know Italy was a guess for a lot of person because of the link to Pinocchio, but Italy main material for houses is stone not wood. And it is also not known for its winter.)
Here we can also see bricks which is something more associated to countries like Germany, Belgium or the Nertherlands, we don't have the colors so we can't guess from which minerals it was made for now.
But we have even more informations when we look at chapter 124!
The bridge and tower may be inspired by a fortified city, something that you could find A LOT in Western Europe during the middle age, not a lot of cities still have their entire walls but you can still see it if you go into old medieval towns. We can also see something that looks like a Belfry on several panels. Towers used mostly to indicate each passing hour of the day (may be a campanile or a bell tower (the difference is wether it's linked to religion or not basically)
Second! Let's do a little bit of clock making history!
I won't go into details, but there are some countries to point for this. England, The Netherlands and Germany. We already took out England before and we can easily erase Nertherlands from the list with the next step (my favorite one).
The food! I already had my suspicions confirmed with this bonus art from volume 22.
First of all, they have tea which is not something that was in Europe before the XVII century. But let's look at the sweets they have here.
Chocolates which look close to Belgian chocolate ( I say Belgian but other countries' chocolate is pretty close to it) , Christstollen Cake, and Spiztbuden.
We have even more to look at with the new chapter! And they confirm that it's indeed a stollen cake.
With all these foods it's now pretty obvious which area the clock keepers are inspired from.
Stollen cakes are German cakes, ginger cookies are from Germany too. I will also add that there is a chance the crescent moon cookies are VanilleKipferl. We have another panel showing Sausages and bread. Only the Almond is something not typical from Germany but which clearly was all over Western Europe with trades.
Their city already looked like the 'perfect christmas city' you can see in movies, inspired by German culture. And they also mention Mulled Wine which is THE beverage to take in any chritmas market in Europe.
Chritmas markets are inspired and coming from Germany first, but I wanna point something more.
My main guess was, Nuremberg, the city where the ancestor of the pocket watch was created, the Nuremberg Egg. It's also a Fortified city and it has forests around it. It's also known for its Ginger cookies!
So Germany would be a great pic, but the more I think about it the more I can also see the link to another region: Alsace.
Alsace is a region from France right now BUT it's a mixt of german and french culture (I will not make a history lesson but it is a place that always switched between France and Germany basically, now it's French).
All the food mentionned before are also made in the Alsace region!
It's situated in the Vosges, a chain of mountains known to have a lot of forets of pines and which is known to have villages like this:
Which were also the main inspirations for movies like Howl's moving castle for example. You can see the similarities between the artchitectures
The first ever Chritmas Market was in Strasbourg, the capital of Alsace, when it was German and it spread accross Europe after.
I will now look at something I usually don't do because I exclude Aus from canon but it's just a funny thing to point out.
This au shows a snow town inspired by ginger bread houses. I just find it funny because Aoi is shown as a baker, with bread (which are not baguette I think, it's way larger here) but with some croissant on her table (disclaimer: Croissant are not french at first, this form here is, but it's from Austria otherwise) And Kako clearly has something similar to a Wine bottle in his hands. This au is the only one featuring them, was given with their volumes and the vibes are really similar to their boundary.
I would say no matter what it's definitely closer to German culture but I wanted to point out this region which is known for it's Christmas season and its typical houses.
I will mostly say that it's an inspiration from this region of Europe, I don't know if a real country is the reference for it since we don't even know where tbhk takes place, but it's always funny to look at those things :DD
Little bonus:
In a more messy note, the clothes. I put them at the end because besides their hats, I had no idea how to describe it, since it seems pretty typical of what people could wear in winter.
I did the research in the other way, to look for German and Alsacian clothing to see if it match and it kinda does but I don't think it's speficific to this region. The girls wear classic white Charlotte and big clothes with layers for Winter.
The clock keepers clothes are different, it looks like a mixt of Japanese and western European clothing (especially from england).
Their main outfits for Akane and Kako really just look like a typical waistcoast/costume you can find in the XIXth century in Europe and Mirai's seems more inspired by a mixt of a Kimono with several layers(she also has sandals and frills) and a coat? The little knots Kako and Akane have on their coats look like something inspired from Mizuhiki knots too (I actually saw a costume with those exact same knots in a museum but I didn't take a picture rip)
So I would say they probably changed slowly their attire when they arrived in Japan, we don't know since how many times they are here, but we know that what is happening in the deeper place of the boundary is linked to memories previous to their arrival. According to their origin I think we can say that it's pretty sure they arrived after the Meiji/during the Meiji Era in Japan (1868/1912), since it's a this time Japan mostly imported Western culture (for clothing here, the first contact was before this. And note: it was mostly rich people who dressed like this). And If we look at some others dates like the things they are eating, used to have or even their clothes, I would say it's more probably the Meiji Era and not in the XVs.
Another note is that their clocks have the numbers written in japanese on it (in the og version but it maye just be so it's readable for the japanese readers? idk if it's a choice or not).
I haven't searched much on their clothes but it was still something I wanted to note here ^^
#tbhk#toilet bound hanako kun#jshk#aoi akane#jibaku shounen hanako kun#ramblings#jibaku shonen hanako kun#this is messy af but I needed this out of my system#the three clock keepers#been looking at the food since one year and I only say something now djskd#I will be honest I didn't look on Alsace first because since i know this region#I was just 'this is way too easy'#when it's kinda close ahah#I really didn't dig on several stuff tbh#tbhk analysis#plz don't take this too seriously#it was just really funny to do#tumblr plz show it in the tags#for the architecture part I once again asked my architect sibling youhou#the clock keepers are a little insane as they should be đ#idc much about the plots I am here for the clock keepers lore rip#sorry ti my german and french mutu1ls who will have flashbacks of history lessons with Alsace#once again the audience target is me#but if someone is as insane about the clock keepers as I am I hope they will like this#been to germany some times but Maybe I am wrong lol#I know the cakes are found in Alsace idk how present they are in Germany#âlet's talk about clock making history!â *proceeds to not explain anything* izbdlkzkkd I am sorry help#I don't wanna ramble on that too much but I like stuff related to time and how to mesure it it's so so cool

The next time someone outside the US tries to Give Shit about not using metric, I'll just ask when they're transitioning out of a base 24/60 time measurement.
Get back to me when you have a ten-hour day and 100min hour.
Until then "but we've always used this, it would be so annoying to change over when we're all used to these seemingly unreasonable ratios, it feels natural to us," is a justifiable answer for continuing to use the Imperial system.
No you would not get to retroactively grow up with the time. Your people and government would have to manually adjust as fast as possible because... IDK aliens showed up and the rest of the galaxy thinks we're weird for not using base 10. The boomers will complain, the teachers will panic, and you will have to sink so much money into changeover for signage and computers across the world.
EDIT: I am FULLY AWARE of the transition from imperial to metric in places like England (incomplete though it may be).
This is not about people who lived through that transition, because those are not generally the people who are snobbish about it. The worst attitudes, in my experience, come from people who grew up on metric and view others as idiots for preferring something else.
The post is about how the argument that metric is Objectively Better is hypocritical if you aren't also willing to change the time system.
The argument is Stop Being Dicks.

so ive been playing the L death note ds game and the L communicator mode is so funny. Literally all you can do is feed him treats and make him say random lines at you. to restock treats you have to wait on the blank menu screen for five minutes at a time for watari to bring more food.
konami said u will keep your ds open on this blank screen for hours just to feed a fake L death note treats so that he'll tell you he loves you.
and you know what i am. i had to pause in the middle of writing this because watari came back with more food.
#its cute though it uses your system's clock and he makes comments abt the time and the weather#and theres special foods that unlock on holidays#his dialogue changes throughout the day. so u just have to keep coming back#i think it is really funny but i think its rlly nice#the game itself can be very high stress ur disarming bombs on a time limit#so it is just like a little fun thing to do. to like encourage u to take brain breaks#& 'time limit' is more like Moves limit u have a limited number of Things u can do before time Runs Out#its a fun game. i want to speedrun it#death note#đ©ž

Dear Brother: Ch04 Supplemental Lore - Inactive Duty Siblings
In the setting of Dear Brother, some of the ranks within the Dark Brotherhood have been altered or are wholly new. Below, you will find explanations for those who do not carry out Sacraments. Inactive Duty Siblings mostly remain in the Sanctuary to learn doctrine or provide support to their Active Duty Siblings.
Crowcaller
A Crowcaller is a specialized role responsible for hatching*, training, and caring for the Deep Eyed Crows. Crowcallers are spiritually-sensitive and able to interpret the needs of Void-blessed creatures. They must possess some level of Conjuration training, as they also craft âCrowstonesâ for their local Speaker and Silencer. These fragile runestones are carefully carved into shale and carried by traveling Claws - rather than keeping a crow on their person throughout their journey, they break a stone to instantly summon one to their position as needed.
In special cases, Crowcallers may be asked to manage alternate courier arrangements.
*No one is entirely sure where the eggs come from.
Providers, Menders, & Healers
These roles actually make up the majority of a typical Sanctuary. Sometimes, these are Siblings whose expertise is something other than combat; other times, these may be Siblings who cannot complete Sacraments for various reasons. Regardless, they are full members of a Sanctuary and Family: they are still given basic defensive training and taught to uphold the Tenets just as those who carry out Sacraments are. A Sanctuary could not function without these necessary Siblings supporting its very foundation.
Providers handle the Sanctuaryâs meal-prep and supplies of clean water. Menders are the Sanctuaryâs craftspeople, managing the creation and upkeep of weaponry, armor, and art. Healers tend to the physical well-being of others within the Sanctuary, whether that be through the magicka of alchemy and Restoration or through physical means of doctoring.
It's common for these Siblings to hold undercover positions in nearby towns. For example, a Mender might work in a town's forge or tannery, granting them further access to tools and supplies which any given Sanctuary needs but might not have.
Initiate
This is a newly-arrived member of the Family who has proven their commitment to joining. However, they are not yet full members, and are thus disallowed freedom of movement before baptism. To put it bluntly, the Initiate role is used entirely for brainwashing: they are isolated from laity and opposing viewpoints, provided support only through other Family members, and fed a strict diet of Brotherhood doctrine.
If an Initiate resists strongly during this stage, they are killed. The killing of an Initiate is regarded as a failing on the part of the teachers rather than the Initiate themself. Following an incident like this, Family is encouraged to mourn the death as they would for any Sibling and to use it as motivation in future cases.
After an Initiate undergoes their Woeful Baptism, they are welcomed into the Family as an Unblooded Murderer. The quality of their first Sacrament will determine whether they continue training as an Active Duty rank, return to an Inactive Duty role, or a secret third thing (die).

Let's talk about the clock keepers!
With the last chapter (124), we have a lot of new things to look at and mostly, a lot of new questions. So let's look at what we know about them for now!
N°1's rumor shows right away what they are capable of. Putting even more emphasis on it and what they really do in the festival arc.
The owls eat away the time of whoever entered the boundary and wasn't allowed to. And the dolls Kako creates would answer the question of 'what happens to the souls after the body is destroyed' . (Knowing that Mirai can destroy the souls and bodies, so the Owls are probably not that powerful.) It's a cruel and awful price to pay, but not that surprising from the supernatural's perspective. Knowing the skate was 'a human who wanna play god and control time'.
What they are doing is also literally written in their titles, they are described as 'Time guardians, representatives of the Past, the Present and the Future', they are called clock keepers because they are protecting the clock that controls time within the school, act and punish according to it.
But with this chapter showing them in a really grim light, itâs pretty hard to see how they can be described as âgoodâ guardians.
The last chapter is really showing the danger Nene is facing. Showing the boundary as a cold place with all the things the clock keepers have been hiding. To show all the risks she is taking to go back to her friends knowing fully what could happen to her. If she tries to change the past, the clock keepers may change her into a mechanical doll wandering aimlessly in their cold boundary.
AidaIro have been trying a lot to show how wrong and dangerous they were in this arc. We saw them through a lot of characterâs pov, and all of them have been treating them as the biggest threat like Akane described them in chapter 108.
Nene sees how horrible their methods are, everything is pointing at them for being cruel. They will maybe even not listen to her because she seems to have broken the representative of the presentâs watch and Akane is nowhere to be seen.Â
Do they just punish anyone that seems to get too close to their powers? Humans mostly? Since the clock keeper of the present is a human too, does it mean they are affected by this?
The only reason for this would be if they gain something out of it. Would it mean the dolls have a bigger use than just filling the boundary. But what for? A soul? A body? A kind of sacrifice?Â
But it would be insanely hypocritical of Kako to do this, showing his clear disagreement about the pit god's situation and Hanakoâs choice to not do anything when the school is in in danger.
Itâs not impossible, but only if the representative of the present breaks those rules they would suffer the same consequences as a normal human, they clearly have âautorisationsâ over anyone else.
And I also think it makes sense for a human to be part of this mystery.
Let's look at what happened when they decided to rewind time too.
We just canât decide which timeline is the worst. On one hand we have a muderous curse, and on the other hand, we have a whole school being 'killed' in record time, the students are being turned into supernatural beings and even if they can turn back they are still attacking other students and people present for the festival. The school is even more crowded than usual, the number of victims at the end of the day will be pretty horrible in both timelines. I am not surprised the clock keepers decided to act.Â
Changing a whole timeline is a huge deal, we even know that all of the Mysteries have limitations, prices to pay to be powerful.
Shijima canât stop drawing even if she wants to, Tsuchigomi has the power to know but is not allowed to act on anything, Hakubo can bring things back to life but also kills everything he touches, and the Clock keepers have mechanical/broken bodies.
It may be the price they pay for their powers, Mirai seems in better shape than Kako too. The latter has to keep his mask on to hide his fake eyes. And they are dolls, the things they create to punish people. They can use their power to change the course of events but then have to go to sleep for a really long time, here for around 50 years, and just hope that what they did was the right choice. Kakoâs role is one of âcontrolâ over a lot of things, so not being able to do anything and not have any relevance for a long time is a big risk and price. Even more knowing a supernatural needs their rumor to continue to spread around to exist.
N°1 have a human in their team because they can break the âcurseâ of their power. If Kako and Mirai canât see anything and are forced to sleep to change the past, the clock keepers may use a human because they can observe what is happening in the living world, so they can observe the present. Akane was left to be the eyes  for the clock keepers in the new present like he is already in the original timeline. He reports things that seem suspicious to Kako. Kako said it in his second appearance, their role is to observe at first, they take actions if they deem it necessary.Â
Another thing to have in mind is that the clock keepers have also been kind of an exception since the beginning of the manga. They are the only mysteries to have âsplit powersâ in three, and several representatives. They are clearly important for the mysteries, being named number one and the oldest. Most of them show up to a meeting when they donât when Hanako, the leader, calls for one. N°1 also don't fear to put their 'boss' on a trial.
They have respect from the mysteries, but also from exorcists. None of the characters want to take action against them in a big part of the manga despite having caused a real mess across the school. Tsuchigomoriâs yorishiro was taken for no real reasons than Hanako's plan, and Shijima 'âonly'ââ trapped 2 students in her painting for example.
Teru always talks about the clock keepers like they are above the others too. He lets them have a pass on a lot of things and they are the only mystery he was willing to ask for help, probably mostly because a human is among them. But if the clock keepers always had such insane techniques to recruit a human (pretending to kill students (cf:chap 25 with Aoi)), itâs strange that no exorcist has done anything against that. Teru threatened to get rid of other mysteries, like Hanako even when he is the leader. Even after saying how much he hates the timeline and being 'controlled' by them, he never actually mention getting rid of them after or regretting not doing it sooner. It's considered a problem for Akane for him, he is only ''vexed'' to work with them and he even advised Akane to be careful about the yorishiro to be able to use their power.
We can point out that the inactions of the Minamotos clan may be because the mysteries are the real âpillars and yorishiros of the gods (Kami)â. Kako is the one who confirms that they are proxies of the gods , so close to deities. The mysteriesâ yorishiros being clearly seals to a bigger danger (probably the pit god) But I still think the clock keepers have had a pass for the thing they did when others didnât. Only two yorishiro were destroyed when they messed with the students' time.
The broadcasting club strengthened their methods with each new mystery and they had to use an old mystery power to do only a distraction for n°1 with their usual use of Hanako and Nene, knowing that they are really cautious supernatural. They went right away for their weak link, the mortal one, and they are the last mystery they want to take out before the most powerful one (Mitsuba not even being considered as one) It's also the time where they finally use Natsuhiko's curse. A curse that can take out Mitsuba down immediately. They were rarely as pro active to go against a Mystery in terms of power.
The moment being ânowâ is also something to note. The clock keeper's powers may be more âfragileâ and/or powerful during this time, since the three days-ish of the festival are the time limit for people to forget if they ever rewinded time. The days before and during the festival are also the moment where the school time is the most unstable. Maybe they can do something that drastic only at this time, but itâs also the period where they are the most âweakenedâ hence why the broadcasting club may have chosen this precise moment to act on them, Natsuhiko taking contact with Akane only when the preparations of the festival started. I would say that they canât change the timeline when they want, a power like this may need a pretty big limit.Â
The whole school being infested and killing students, their big clock being threatened, the boundaries between the supernaturals and humans nearly donât exist anymore, the âenemy have gone this farâ with the curse on the school etc... The solution was to get rid of the root as Kako said. Because only rewinding time for the day wouldn't have been enough. I also think they didnât mind what Shinigami did in the previous arc if it set things right. Kako even admits that Hakubo has extremes measures but doesn't stop him. It's not that surprising when you see what has been happening in the manga. They are âjudgesâ after all and condemn things as they think itâs better to do.
Number 6's story being the last arc before the one of the clock keepers, was full of insane and drastic measures from a lot of characters. The story has more skates, it's normal for its progression. The more we go into the manga, the bigger the punitions are too. They lost everyone to the severance in the previous arc but they could get back because they weren't 'dead'. Now they don't exist as 'themselves' anymore, they have to literally change time to go back to their statu go. The clock keepers have been in the manga since nearly 100 chapters, it's great their story and the way they are handling things are awful to the characters. It doesn't mean they are right, but it's logical in term of story telling.
And now this is more of a personal preference, but I truly believe making a supernatural, especially a mystery, truly 'evil' now would go against the themes of this manga. None of the mysteries are shown through an âonly evil lensâ. Obviously they all take drastic measures that are awful to the livings half of the time, their morals and comprehension of life and death are way different than humans, itâs not even comparable. But the story always reminds us they do this for a reason, at least to them. Showing the clock keepers going 'oh yes we have been sacrificing people only to keep our power/be more powerful and nothing else' would be pretty strange in my opinion.
Hakubo was only doing his job this whole time, being more a servant/slave unable to take decision on his own, Hanako has done of what he did out of love, Shijima tried to kill Mei only because she thoughts she was hurting her by existing, Yako wanted to see the only person she ever cared about and who teached her everything, etc
All rumors have a part of truths and lies in them we are missing a lot of informations here.
That would break the whole point of the mysteries and the fact we as readers try to empathize or at least have a perspective on why they do this. Even the God pit wasn't shown only as an evil entity when it has been eating dozens of people. And we could even argue that it tries to do the right thing from its pov by wanting to bring 'happiness' since humans asked for it, all of it is also being amplified by rumors. The villagers thought that to keep the pit god calm they had to sacrifice young girls, but it was also to ask for wishes, like 'happiness'. And the god pit answered.
This is more of a stretch now but Kako being so extreme in his rules and choices may be because he is the one who already saw. He is the oldest supernatural they introduce in the manga, he is maybe even older than the god pit. He doesnât even hesitate to say what It is to Akane, he seems to be the only one knowing that Tsukasa and him have merged. (w/o Tsuchi probablybut too many rules forces him to stay inactive/silent)Â What kind of perspectives are we missing?
Going this extreme must be for a reason that we don't have for now. We don't know how many times they rewinded time, we don't know what happened to them.
And especially we don't know why they had to leave their city and country. Why did they have to go into a foreign land, keeping only the memory of an endless snow day spent next to the chimney with sweets and tea as the representation of what they can call home. It is also shown that the clock keepers, compared to other mysteries, spend a lot of time in the innermost reach boundary. Akane has clearly been there several times. And it's so personal too, they have their house here. We see that Tsuchi spends more âcasual/mundaneâ time in the school than his boundary, Yakoâs innermost reach is the start of the staircase where Misaki died, Hakubo's could only be described as 'the awful village Sumire was from' and Shijima's was Mei's dream. These last two mysteries never went into them before Nene appeared. Everything they still do and cook is filled with their previous life/home, and it's always shown in a reassuring light. I think there definitely will be a story around this, and I hope we will see how it's important to their roles, and their powers.
Their yorishiro is a key to the big clock to control time, something that exists for them only because they are a mystery. But it also seems to lead to an ever more âsecretâ part of the boundary. I have no idea what it means for them, but fire and comfort are always here in all their âmost important placesâ.
It's too easy for now, to judge them and only categorize them as evil. Yes it's insane what they do, and not right to any other characters. But it's also not that drastic when you know the consequences of altering Time and what already happened in the manga previously, the two ideas can coexist.
The clock keepers are not an exception among the mysteries in terms of personnalities, they have traits all of them have.
They represent Judgment, or at least think they represent it. All mysteries are arrogant, the one being the most neutral about it being Hakubo, he's just doing his job and knows his capacities. But the clock keepers? They really are, probably the ones with the biggest ego. Kako is arrogant enough to not even care and take his time when danger arises because he knows he has time on his side. His introduction actually already shows this side, his first appearance showing he came late because what's the point of being on time when you literally control it. Nothing is a problem when you can just go back in time like it never happened.
Mirai may not go with the definition of arrogance at first glance, but she definitely shows it in a different way. The world is her playground, she is kept in the clock keeper's boundary because she can't help herself but use her powers and turn the whole school into a retirement home. Whenever she fights she has a big smile on her face and she is seen laughing a lot at people following her, acting like a child whenever she doesn't get her way. I think their arrogance is the main point of their story. They are awful because of it.Â
It's no wonder Akane is in the clock keepers , the idea to judge someone forever and stick to it is something really strong for them too. Kako has been stuck on Hanako's first introduction to him not even wanting to see him again for a really long time, just because he said ONE thing and Kako made his whole view about it, even bringing it back in a trial. They make their views on something and just stick to it forever. Itâs not that surprising to see they go this far for people who try to control time, because they think they are right.
Once again, itâs easy to see whatâs wrong with them but they are not only shown as evil supernaturals since the beginning of the manga.
They are always shown as duty centered and described as stern and strict supernaturals. Kako doesn't hesitate to turn back time because it's Mirai who wrecked the school. So it's only fair 'because it's one of our own who did it, it's normal for me to fix it'. He works by the rules since his introductions in his manga, he is the most strict mystery and the one being the most bothered by what is happening in the school because it is âTheir sworn duty to protect the schoolâ.
And they are just once again, as a lot of mysteries, taking their roles to an extreme for humans' standard. Kako's problem is that he is TOO serious, he knows his role, he knows how powerful they are, he knows his duty and he will make sure to do it. Even if his methods are awful. And I personally think that's what their arc, the next chapters, will be about.
That they were wrong and that it cost the lives of a lot of people and that especially Akane was a victim of it too.Â
Putting them as only âcold blooded and evilâ characters is also not fair when there are a lot of little interactions that at least shows that they care about human lives and the school to some extent and Akane. Mirai literally took a blow for him. After getting destroyed, the first thing she does when she wakes up, is checking if he is alright and asking to be praised, she doesn't check anything else only making sure he is okay because she knows Kako can physically fix her. And we know that Kako can rewind Akaneâs time, but he maybe would remember what happened, which means Mirai took the blow to avoid him to feel the pain of being stabbed. This wasn't even scripted since Akane planned for Mirai to escape. She acts like a kid more whenever he is around and wears the name he gave her like a badge, clearly having fun with him. She is absolutely shocked when he orders her to never take a blow for him ever again, saying she is a child rather than a beast/monster like he does in all previous chapters.
Kako forces Akane to have tea with them because he wants to congratulate him on a job done well. He is a bitch about it and is shocked because âwhat do you mean someone said no to him?â and he uses his power to force him, but itâs a classic supernatural move, he does this because he canât fathom that Akane would say no when they baked cakes specifically for him, itâs just another representation of his ego. Akane even admits that Kako listens to him at some point. If Teru wanted to ask for their help is also because they seem â'âreasonableâ'â supernaturals.
Akane has gone through a development in the manga that makes him question A LOT of what he knows, sees and assumes, that's his whole role. In the last chapters it is shown that Akane has a hard time to pinpoint exactly how he feels really about the clock keepers because he knows what their real role is, they are 'protecting' and that's something he can understand. But he hates the way they work. He says it throughout the whole series, but what can he do? He is literally just a random human boy among god powered beings. And it's no wonder Akane is also one of the only half supernatural.
Their whole thing is 'being humbled' by humans in this series.Â
And it's easy to say that humans are only victims in all the supernatural stories. They need to realize how much their actions and consequences are a part of the supernatural world. Supernaturals especially the mysteries, are bound by duties and rumors, they have to respect rules for the humans if they want to be part of their world, things happen because rumors were written, supernaturals start existing because of humans, the god pit became so powerful because humans made sacrifices asking for wishes. I kinda hope that Humanâs greediness will be addressed, they are far more powerful than they think they are in the grand scheme of things.
And itâs even more obvious when we see that all mysteries have a human and their death linked to their yorishiro. Which is also why I think there is more behind the clock keepersâ backstory, we know nothing of it and it will give us a new insight at what is happening. What happened to make them feel so much that they now go to all those extremes to respect their sworn duties as mystery n°1? I think they are arrogant and need to be put in place for what they are doing but I donât think they are as greedy as a lot of fans are saying. I have so many questions and I hope we will have some answers soon.Â
We are missing information on so many things, why was Amane trying to get the clock moving too? He wanted to change time probably, but itâs not as simple as trying to move a 'magical' clock. Was his fate a consequence of this at some point? If Kako already knew Tsukasa had the god pit in him why not do anything sooner (Tsukasa became a real threat recently though, since he was locked in Hanakoâs boundary probably and the clock keepers waited to be active)
So many things canât be answered for now and itâs blurry on so many parts so itâs easy to make speculations, but once again I think the important thing here is ânuanceâ. Not all humans are âonly niceâ and the supernaturals arenât âonly evilâ, otherwise AidaIro wonât have any story to tell. And unfortunately I think it's a thing that has been clearly lacking in the writing of the recent arcs and the consequences of rushing storylines.
I am really scared for the next chapters but I also canât wait for the clock keepersâ story to finally be shown!Â
#toilet bound hanako kun#biggest shoutout to Mari who helped me through this#tysm for helping me and listening yay#tbhk#jshk#jibaku shounen hanako kun#jibaku shonen hanako kun#yugi amane#shijima mei#aoi akane#akane sumire#the three clock keepers#hakubo tbhk#mirai tbhk#kako tbhk#tsuchigomori#yako#mitsuba sousuke#this is really messy on some part but I needed this out of my system for the next chapter#this is mostly 'lots of random stuff I think on the clock keepers bc i love them'#and also to give another pov on this whole thing#bc I mostly saw people dunking on them when I think it's more complicated than that#this is for the three N°1 fan out there#including me#I have missed stuff it's sure djsds#will probably edit tomorrow but it's late af#i don't think it is impossible for Aidaqiro to make them bug bad evil tbh#I just think it would suck lol#I didn't mention the cat much bc it would have been too long but yes the clock keepers suck but they are not only that#look at my clown self being destroyed tomorrow I have absolutely no hope left for the mysteries tbh

originally for my thesis i was gonna like, focus on each aspect of the prague astronomical clock like its history, its function, and its design separately - but even other than this scope was way too big for me, the design IS the function. like, obviously, It's A Clock........ but! the reason the face plate has multiple colors is because they represent the time of day. the blue field is day, the orange is dawn and dusk, and the black circle is night. the placement of the sun symbol indicates the placement in the day cycle. I Know I Know It's A Clock Of Course It Does That but it's different to how we're used to reading clocks in this day and age.
anyway it reminded me of first year of watchmaker school, when we were learning to blue steel, a process that gives steel a specific material quality and also turns it blue. you might see high end watched that have blue hands and blue screws, for example, and it's not Just for the aesthetic, it's a sign of quality, but it has BECOME a preferred aesthetic BECAUSE of the quality. my teacher asked me if i, as a former art history student, knew whether it was common for something to Become Beautiful because it was a Desired Quality. i didn't have a good answer at the time but i have clearly not stopped thinking about it. i think it's a kind of survivorship bias - something can be the most aesthetically pleasing and beautiful but it won't really matter if it crumbles to dust within a couple years and there's no way for future generations to appreciate it. it doesn't make it less beautiful, only that we have no clue it ever existed. so in that sense, the beauty of functionality persists
#clockblogging#it's embarassing but i feel like i only finally Understood how the orloj is read yesterday when i had to explain it properly#like i got what it Showed but my brain has been so flat and ive struggled to absorb information#so only when i finally properly focused and digested it and re-explained it.#i finally get how it shows the babylonian time. yippeee yayyyy good job meeee#the sidereal time and babylonian time is like... the same clock. sidereal time is more of a calendar. these two together Show The Exact Tim#the pointer that shows the italian time and german time is like. separate from That in a sense#and that pointer is able to indicate two different time systems at the same time how?#hohoho. by having the outher ring move independently of the rest of the clock face#that's honestly so cool.#anyway have more clock facts. it's all i have in me right now
