Character Intro: Pompe (Kingdom of Ichor)

Nicknames- Pom-Pom by her family

Age- 13 (immortal)

Location- Hearthwood neighborhood, New Olympus

Personality- She's a straight laced studious girl that respects tradition & conventionality with duty being the main driving force in her life. She has a tendency to be hard on herself as well as judgemental towards things she doesn't understand.

She has the standard abilities of a goddess except shapeshifting. Abilities she shares with her family includes limited photokinesis, limited ambrosia manipulation, having an eidetic memory, and temporary blessing bestowment. Her other powers/abilities include limited pyrokinesis & light mimicry.

Pompe is the only child to Katharina, a member of The Litae. They live at their house in the Hearthwood neighborhood of New Olympus. Her aunts & cousins are next door neighbors. Pompe's room is quaint and minimalist with colors of amber, beige, cream, and pastel orange. There's always incense sticks smouldering & aromatic candles lit. Her and her mom sewn and embroidered the curtains that hang from her bedroom windows. She has a single pet/animal companion- a fledgling (newborn griffin; a girl) named Solaris. She was born from her mother's griffin Sundancer. Pompe will be able to ride her when Solaris matures in a couple of years.

She keeps her hair short and managable. Pompe's go-to products to use is raw shea butter (which she buys from the all-natural shop owned by Damia (goddess of naturalness) and the Glory's Crown green tea & jojoba oil twisting butter.

A go-to drink for her is a cafe au lait that she makes at home. She also likes ginger ale, sparkling water, coconut milk, & peach juice. Her usuals from The Roasted Bean is a medium iced green tea and a large chai latte.

Pompe calls her personal style "collegiate chic." Low-cut tops, tight jeans, and short skirts are major no-nos. She's a fan of muted & neutral colors, fitted blazers, wide leg poplin pants, and collared shirts. Her favorite fashion brand is Threads of Wisdom, where Pompe loves the oxford flats & loafers. She also likes the ballet flats from Persuausions.

She wholeheartedly believes that her mom & aunts are due a temple in their honor.

Pompe's relationship with her mom has always been a bit emotionally distant. If they're not at the church or the main office, they've rarely spent any down time together. Her mother's general overcritical way of speaking and micromanaging also doesn't help matters. If given permission, Pompe will usually go to next door to spend time with her aunt Ikesía & cousin Telete (goddess of prayers). She feels as though the environment there is more warm and inviting.

For her most recent birthday, she was gifted a pair of Victorian-style gold heart shaped earrings with white diamonds & black diamond accents from her mom.

A typical breakfast for her are scrambled eggs, a toasted buttered bagel, and sweet potato home fries. She'll also stop by The Bread Box to get an egg salad sandwich.

The Eleutherus Cathedral is almost like a second home to her. Pompe will usually help out during the daily procession as well as light up the ceremonial torches. She's also responsible for gathering up the obol coins that are dropped into the prayers' well.

Pompe doesn't partake in candy and sweets very often, considering them one of her greatest vices! Some of her favorite treats include the ambrosia honey coated candy apples from Confetti Candy Co., the milk chocolate caramel squares from Cocoa Delights- the chocolate shop owned by Pandaisia (goddess of banquets), & the coconut flavored cotton candy from Candycloud, the business owned by Nephele (goddess of clouds).

A guilty pleasure for her are veggie egg rolls with sweet and sour dipping sauce.

Pompe is a picture perfect student with excellent grades & flawless attendance. She's even taking a couple of philosophy courses at the University! At school, she particularly excels in her religious studies class. Aside from her cousins, Pompe is friendly with Philia (goddess of friendship), Pandia (goddess of the full moon), and is friends with Calocagathia (Aggie) (goddess of nobility & goodness). She thinks that Anaideia (goddess of ruthlessness, shamelessness, & unforgiveness) is a lost cause, though she's not fool enough to voice her concerns out loud. Pompe makes sure their paths don't cross in school. Other godly students include Deucalion, Thespios (god of acting), Dysis (goddess of the sunset), Thrasos (god of boldness, insolence, recklessness, & courage), Achelois (goddess of the moon & comfort), E.B, and Krysothemis (Kristy). She owns the disparaging nickname given to her and her cousins with pride. Pompe even showed up to school wearing a T-shirt (that she made & designed herself) with the saying "It's cool being drool."

Aside from helping out in the family business her other extracurricular activities include ballet lessons, harp lessons, volunteering at the Psomí & Zoí soup kitchen, and taking weekend classes at Kyría Aristeía, the charm school owned by Peitharchia (goddess of obedience & discipline). Pompe's favorite part of the etiquette class is when they partake in the tea sandwiches!

Her favorite dessert is the honey cake from Hollyhock's Bakery. She doesn't mind dropping 8 drachmas for a single slice afterschool.

Her other "greatest vice" is reading- particularly the sweet & fluffy contemporaries written by Erato (muse of love poetry) and the steamier romances written by Aphrodite (goddess of love & beauty). Most of her allowance has gone to buying these books even though she doesn't mind the wholesome clean romances co-written by her mom & aunts. Pompe has a collection of "unfavorable readings" hidden away in a secret compartment in her closet.

She was once tempted to go to an official book signing hosted by Erato at the Mall of Olympius, but figured the possible cons outweighed the pros.

In the pantheon Pompe also looks up to Hestia (goddess of the hearth), Aeschyne (goddess of modesty & honor), Aletheia (goddess of truth), Pistis (goddess of trust, reliability, & good faith), Anchiale (Titaness of fire), Eusebeia (goddess of piety, loyalty, duty, & filial respect); who's in talks of potentially being her mentor, Sophrosyne (goddess of moderation, temperance, & restraint), and Litismós (goddess of culture); thinking that she's the most glamourous being she's ever seen!

Her favorite TV shows to watch at home are Spíti & Estía, a popular home improvement show and O Drómos tis Zoís, a tug-at-your heartstrings family drama that centers on a family after the death of the patriach. She secretly watches the second show on her phone at night because the show does contain mature thematic elements, some coarse language, and sexual content.

Some of her favorite meals to cook include black-eyed pea salad, chicken pot pie casserole, and sauteed collard greens (added with onions & various peppers).

In her free time Pompe enjoys bike riding, gardening, yoga, knitting, sewing, pottery, chess, reading, cooking, and spending time with family.

Title: Snowy Afternoons

Summary: Winter baking (and that’s pretty much it haha) Also a bunch of references to snow, because I miss it

Whenever it started snowing in Wayhaven, it rarely stopped. The thick blanket of snow would continue to cover the entirety of the sleepy little town until the first hints of spring. The air barely seemed to go above freezing, it always making her nose and face red, almost like a permanent blush.

But as frigid as it may be outside, Pearl could not think of a time of the year that she loved more. With it being in the middle of the holidays, and the overall beauty of the season strangely made her nostalgic, despite the unsure feelings she had toward the holidays in general due to repeated absences and half-baked apologies from her mother.

Maybe it was the time of the year where the town got together to celebrate, no one being left out. Downtown always looked beautiful with all of the decorations, the same decorations year after year, and even with the familiar sights, it was nostalgic almost. Even with all of the recent changes, Wayhaven, was well, still the same. Not even the supernatural could change that.

And she supposed there was something comforting in that. Whether she liked it or not, this was her home, and nothing would ever change that. Pearl had tried to leave once, and it made her feel more lost, despite the fact that she believed that was following her dreams at the time, and was frustrated with herself to why it just left her feeling unfulfilled.

But just maybe, with the arrival of Unit Bravo in the town, she felt like that perhaps her calling was to be a small-town detective dealing with the supernatural at every turn. And that was not such a bad thing.

Especially with the arrival of one particular member.

Pearl’s eyes went straight to Nate at the other end of her kitchen, her fingers delicately tracing over the pages of one of her cookbooks, and even though they may have not been dating for long, he looked like he had belonged there, and had been there for his entire life.

She had invited him over that morning to help her out with baking with the holiday party at the station. It was something that she did every year, and while it could get a bit overwhelming at times, it was never something that she really needed extra help with. The routine of it all was familiar to her at this point.

Perhaps she just wanted an excuse to invite him over.

Not like she thought he would need one to come over anyway.

He always managed to make himself at home at her place anyway, even with it being a bit of a disaster at the moment. She had always managed to keep it so neat before she met the team, and now it had turned into what she optimistically put as “organized chaos” (Though she was sure Adam would disagree) Paperwork and other Agency materials piled up on about every flat surface, with several assorted technology bits that she had taken from the warehouse’s tech room to look further at.

And Nate had found his own way to add to the clutter, often bringing books and other various items that he owned, and his comfort in her space never failed to bring a smile to lips. It was a sign of their continued closer relationship, and it was something that she hoped would never fade.

“Do you think the cake is cool enough yet?”

Pearl blinked in surprise at the moment broken, to find Nate looking straight at her, his brown eyes as gentle as ever, bringing one of her old collegiate mugs to his lips, full of the tea that he had made the both of them when he had first arrived. She was not sure just how long she had gazing at him, but from the hint of a smirk on his face, it had to have been a while.

Got me feeling like I’m in the clouds, don’t you Agent?

But the cutting flirtation that she wanted to respond that smirk with seemed to die with the rising blush on her face, and all she could do was give him a smile.

“Uh, yeah, I think so”, she stammered out, trying to tear her eyes away from his and failing miserably.

Nate was kind enough not to tease her about it, and he moved closer to her until their shoulders were brushing together, “Want to show me how this is done, [redacted pet name]?”

The simple question surprised her, since it was a rare feeling for her to feel like she had anything that she could teach him. He knew so much, knowledge gained over human lifetimes, and while she may know the parts of a computer like the back of her hand, it was pale in comparison to all that he knew.

And baking was not something she was particularly good at either, just something that she enjoyed as more of a guilty pleasure, but maybe that was what she was willing to do now. Not feel like she had to the best at everything around him, even with the competitive part of her not as pleased with that.

Pearl gave him a wink, “Then let’s get started, shall we?”

She took one of the bowls that was full of the icing that she had made earlier, it bright white, and she brought it over to her kitchen table, which like the rest of her apartment, was also in a sort of mess, with flour covering one half of the table with various bits of decorations that she had made earlier. She looked over at the currently plain white cake that she and Nate had spent the morning making, and it had turned out as just perfect as she would ever want it to.

“So”, she began, dipping the spatula in the frosting and starting to lather it on the top of the cake, “We’ll start with a crumb coating at first, and then we’ll do a second coating later, since that kind of helps hide the imperfections”

Pearl paused, and she looked back at the focused look on his face, and she could not help but smile, “I feel like I’m in some sort of cooking show or something”

Nate laughed, “And I’d say you do quite well in one”

“Wouldn’t go that far”, she replied, trying to ignore the feeling of butterflies in her stomach, “But thanks”

She then handed him one of the over spatulas, “You get the top, and I’ll get the sides?”

“A sound plan”, he agreed, and the two of them both started to work.

As she normally did when she was baking, Pearl started to hum quietly, something that she did while she baking, hardly noticing that she doing so. It was the only sound in the otherwise quiet room, and he gave her smile, smiling in a way that no one had ever smiled at her before.

�� “Wow”, she whispered as she looked at the now completely iced cake, “We did good” She then looked up to Nate, and she gave him a lopsided grin, “But with us working together, I hardly expected anything different”

“Neither did I”, he responded, getting even closer, and she moved to stand on her tiptoes in order to kiss his temple, and even though she may have not been a vampire, she could feel his heart race at the touch.

“I’m going to put the cake in the fridge to cool for a bit”, she whispered, her lips just barely brushing the outside of his ear, Nate bending down slightly in order to let her do so, “Then we’ll work on the fondant, mio amor”

While Pearl may have not been very far outside of Wayhaven in a long time, she always had a knack for languages, part of the reason for that was all of the international friends that she made while she had still done coding events. And one that had stuck with her was a certain Italian phrase and though she doubted she would ever be able to top the one that he had given her, it was something that, well, summed up everything that she felt about him.

And possibly the only true one I’ve ever known.

She reluctantly moved away, and it looked like Nate did as well, but she got everything put up that needed to be before going to stand next to him, and she picked up some of the green fondant that was going to go on the side of the cake.

“So”, she began, “What color do you think this is? Because I’m not sure if I made it more of a seasonal green or more of a spring green”

“I think it’s quite seasonal”, he smiled, and while she was not sure what he would have answered if it was not, she let it go.

“Good”, she replied, the hint of a smirk on her lips, “Would hate to look like I’m pining for another season”

He chucked, the kind of chuckle that almost seemed to brighten the room, and without really thinking about it, she tugged down the top of his jacket to meet his lips with hers, which he gratefully accepted, kissing her in return in just as much feeling as she was, and it took everything in her not to outwardly moan at the contact.

And while they have still had plenty of work to do still, the two of them, for a few glorious minutes, forgot all about it, letting the two of them get lost in the sensation instead, the two of them needing nothing else besides each other.

Innisfree Poetry: Freedom Is in the Dirt

I’ve sniffed around, buried my head in the clouds, and let my legs dangle to have my intestines float away like balloons. I tried to wrangle them in and keep it all inside for a moment, but I saw strangers and was paranoid towards mountain lions in the canyon with the dog sniffing alongside me. That’s to say, the danger here is real and different from the hail of 9 mm crescendos in Tallahassee’s harvest. There’s actual hail. That’s to say, despite the fangs, claws, and weaponized flowers I’ve put my tonsils on display in the valleys, and I wandered into Innisfree Poetry Cafe under rumors of soul songs and buggery.

I was low eyed and found my seat in the background while a girl shouted rhythmically wild. The crowd spewed cheers like a volcano. The girl had gone somewhere and returned like we all do. She said she was home. I felt foreign, displaced from the South, thrust into America’s pancreas. There was the rainbow community, scholars, bodybuilders, blazer boys, rag girls, men with blueteeth and typewriters. It was a groovy scene. I saw more black people than I’d seen in a month in Boulder. I thought they’d disappeared and was beginning to worry, but they were where culture melted ultraviolet and it made sense. I was looking for someone with lightning in their throat.

I couldn’t keep from crawling up to ask how I could throw myself to the Jabberwocks. A lady said I just needed to put my name on the list. I scratched it and ran back to my seat like a mongoose. Queen May’s Revenge was up. A trans woman stood ahead of us all. Her first sentence was like green gold, but her narrative was a firecracker. Her tongue boomed. I siphoned my beak, strangled my elitism, sucker punched my gooch. I had no badge in my pocket, no star power. And she relived her pain in an open mike: prison rape, helpless as a bird with broken wings or a straitjacketed woman. All we could do was watch and applaud.

Then it was my turn, in the midst of American wounds healing. I spit a departing poem to an escort and failings as a collegiate drug dealer. I was a shadow slithering by. White men can be anything in this country: poets, doctors, comedians, morticians, wolves on wall street, the president, but they can’t be quiet in remembrance of Columbine, the Crusades, and our wandering eyes. For the first time, I was the outcast with a haircut. The others had bare feet, long hair, unbuttoned shirts, exposed navels. They were smiling. I was concerned. Everyone was supporting humanity, but I was into the art. Why did no one toss their creed into a burn barrel and dance around? They were there for the community, the floor of hands waiting. That was the art.

I bought a poetry magazine and went to their writer's workshop the next day, downtown, attached to a dance studio of girls strutting to Beyoncé. We were assigned to write what we hate— ego noise naturally— Kanye should have his Achilles snipped— and I decided to buy thicker socks. Others wrote about gender politics, identity, failed polygamy, and fists of fury. Their poems were obese and had gravity. They asked my pronoun. I’d never been asked that. I was tempted to say “it,” but thought my comedy rude. We weren’t on the same vein. No, we were in another locale altogether. I held my phone up for a better signal, whether it came from God, herpes, rope burn, or money in the flamingo's mouth, whatever, I wished it’d smite me.

Something with history will flip the opposition, turn us all cohesive: less walls, more footpaths, trees, water stations for Mexicans in the desert, and shattered borders altogether. We’ll be ready for the jam thieves and Conor McGregor and we’ll show them the American way. We are superglue thanks to the bluebirds in the wires that are faster than any pigeon coated in oil. No one cares how bald you are. Consciousness is changing just as California becomes an island and floats away. We stopped writing in the workshop and began talking.

There was an older fellow I met who said he’d been attending the workshop and the poetry nights for a few years. I said I found it odd no one offered criticism. He said it happened rarely, but he liked it that way. The community is what kept everyone coming back. I grabbed a Hershey’s off the coffee table. Of course, it was sweet. It was made in America. I drove home that night. The dog sniffed my balls at the door. I drank some beer and flew without wings. This new metro was retro and patriotic. All in the fray were welcome. How could they not be? Nobody wore shoes and everyone had tar on their heels.

Quick bio: Anthony “Tony” Wayne Criswell, born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, defines perseverance and persistence. With society’s odds against him, the son of a single mother of 4 learned the value of leadership and teamwork managing to maintain an acute focus on his craft and ability to excel. Despite a brief stint in Texas, Criswell and his family spent the majority of his youth living in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His most impressive performances were his season high double-double(s) with 24 points and 13 rebounds vs Fort Scott, 13 points and 11 rebounds vs Iowa Western, 12 points and 8 boards versus Cloud County, 15 points and 8 rebounds versus Allen County and 12 points and 9 rebounds versus Kansas City CC. Tony finished the 2011-2012 season averaging 12 points a game, remaining consistent from the charity stripe at 78% at the line, ended the season as the player with the most made field goals in one game for the Jayhawk conference with 11 and tied for 2nd best free throw shooting performance in which he went 6/6 from the line. In the 2012-2013 season Criswell returned to NCAA Division I Basketball to become apart of Coach Frank Haith’s program at the Missouri Tigers in the SEC. “He’s been incredible. He’s probably the biggest surprise with how well he’s played and performed,” Coach Haith on Criswell in October with ESPN’s Andy Katz. In an article for Sports Illustrated titled, “You’re Just What We’re Looking For,” fellow 6'9 transfer and forward Alex Oriakhi alongside Criswell’s names were featured within stating those two being the Tigers’ “remedy” for offensive rebounds or lack thereof. As a new member of the program, Tony’s top performance of 4-5fg 9 points and 7 boards was against the year’s NCAA champions of the year, Louisville., Arkansas. Criswell led the team in rebounds four times this season with a high of 9 boards versus LSU. MUTIGERS.com dubbed the forward, “a Versatile player.” To end his collegiate career, Criswell spent his senior season with the Tigers alongside some of the SEC’s top backcourt in Jabari Brown, Jordan Clarkson and Phil Pressey. In a pregame interview, star guard of the Tigers and now Los Angeles Laker, Jordan Clarkson, expressed gratitude for Tony’s presence on the team and role as a teammate by stating that Criswell, “definitely helps us by getting mostly all of the 50/50 balls… like loose balls that dudes don’t like to get… He’s a savage.” The forward’s 2013-2014 top performances were versus Western Michigan where he tallied up 10 points and 10 rebounds and also in the season opener versus Hawaii where he contributed another ear double-double of 11 points and 9 boards. Throughout the season, he chipped in a total of 8 points or more 5 times and 5 or more rebounds on 9 different occasions.

As a graduate of the University of Missouri’s Class of 2014, Criswell spent the upcoming months preparing himself by training for a roster spot as a professional. After going undrafted in the 2014 NBA Draft, he utilized his abundance of resources to improve his game while seeking a roster spot with a professional organization. Within the countless opportunities that emerged for the 6'9 forward, Tony proceeded to participate in consistent workouts with a list of individuals such as: Mo Williams (Mo Williams Academy/Minnesota Timberwolves), Monta Ellis (Dallas Mavericks), Jeremy Lin (Los Angeles Lakers), Chandler Parsons (Houston Rockets), Phil Pressey (Boston Celtics) and Wesley Matthews (Dallas Mavericks).

Prior to signing with MLP Academics Heidelberg, Criswell eagerly spent months traveling back and forth between Dallas-Fort Worth, Oklahoma City and the University of Missouri for training sessions with the university athletic’s staff and NBA trainer, Coach D'Jamel, of the Mo Williams Academy. MLP Academics signed Criswell mid-season in order to replace their forward Antone Robinson. Through assimilation from college to professional play, Tony finished his time in Heidelberg averaging 12 minutes, 7 points and 3.3 rebounds a game. After leaving Heidelberg, Criswell again spent months training with a list of professionals and top college recruits such as: Draymond Greene, Monta Ellis, Yogi Ferrell, NBL Canada’s Halifax Hurricanes pursued the big man after seeing him in a tryout for the 2015-2016 season. In his debut preseason performance, he scored 20 points and shot a perfect 8-8 from the field and 4-4 from the line vs Moncton Miracles. Monty Mosher, in his article, “Criswell makes case for roster spot with 20 points in Hurricanes win "It was a big night for Criswell, a strong outside shooter with a big body who played in the NCAA at Missouri and Alabama-Birmingham. ” In his time with the Hurricanes, Criswell managed to rack up a total of 200 points and 106 rebounds accumulated throughout the season making his season average 10 points 5 rebounds a game. His season high was versus the Saint John Mill Rats bringing 21 points, 13 rebounds and 6 of being offensive rebounds home for the Hurricanes. Influences: Tracy Mcgrady, Magic Johnson
