https://www.tumblr.com/hardtchill/758088687970025472/theres-a-clear-difference-between-the-us-team
Doesn’t have to be a masterclass, but a win is a win. And it must be a hard tournament otherwise the US would win every time. There are factors that go into this and disregarding it is wild. Everyone is in the same boat and the team that is able to pull through gets it.
Not saying Emma is the biggest difference maker, but a new voice does help. Look at AC for example. Last season, they struggled with the first coach and then Becki came in and they looked different. The players themselves also said there is a difference
Dude, i don't know how long you have been watching football or how much you know about it, but you clearly aren't getting the point.
This is not how play should be at a major international tournament. Saying a tournament must be hard because otherwise 1 team would win every time is just, trying to be respectful here, not a smart comment.
I'm not talking about who wins because at this point i honestly don't give a flying fuck anymore. The level of play at this tournament is abysmal and that is because of the insane demands on these players. It's bad for women's football because literally any neutral viewer with a little bit of knowledge about the game who turns this or any other game on will go, wth am i even watching and they are right for thinking it.

A french article about Melitina's situation which is very alarming.
English translation (made on Deepl sorry):
The grotesque situation of Staniouta, a Belarusian opponent exiled in France
At 28, the Belarusian Melitina Staniouta (14 world medals) had to leave her country for speaking out against the current government. She has found refuge in France and works in a club in Rueil-Malmaison, but is confronted with the administration and international sanctions against her country.
We meet her in Rueil-Malmaison (Hauts-de-Seine), where she teaches rhythmic gymnastics, the sport that made her a star in her country. Melitina Staniouta has been retired since 2016 and a 5th place at the Rio Olympic Games, but she remains first and foremost the granddaughter of a great Soviet actress who gave her native Belarus a whopping 14 world medals between 2009 and 2015 (5 silver, 9 bronze).
And it is unexpected to find her in this club in the Paris region, explaining the basics to very young gymnasts who obviously do not know what the constraints of top level are. But the young woman's situation is a terrible paradox. Forced to leave her country because she dared to speak out against the government, forced to flee Ukraine just before the invasion of Russia, supported by her Belarusian neighbour. Forced to survive in France because our administration is slow to issue her with papers and she is confronted with international sanctions against Minsk. A Kafkaesque situation, as absurd as it is oppressive.
"Sport is a school that teaches you to accept your mistakes so that you can correct them. But what mistake did I make?" Melitina Staniouta asks herself. Disillusioned. And goes back over her history. Her track record, the fact that she speaks five languages, has opened doors for her. Since 2016, she has been alternating between MasterClasses all over the world and a television programme dedicated to everything to do with outstanding sportsmen and women. I wanted to highlight everything that contributes to performance, she says. The coaches, the physiotherapists, the psychologists, but also those people behind the scenes like the caretaker of our gym who could offer me an apple from her garden just to get me to smile."
While she admits that her political consciousness has long been at half-mast, it was a rude awakening on the eve of Aleksander Lukashenko's fraudulent and disputed re-election in 2020. "If I didn't care about my country, I would have probably turned a blind eye. But I can't, I won't" she said. I have to share the violence, these horrible videos and what is happening in the 21st century in this tiny country in the centre of Europe"
At the time, the government's repression was terrible, even deadly, against the tens of thousands of Belarusians who took to the streets of Minsk. Major sportsmen and women were called to witness, the tennis player and former world number one, Victoria Azarenka, spoke of "heartbreak" but refused to say more. Other less silent voices were raised, with more than 400 athletes signing an open letter to declare the elections invalid.
Melitina Staniouta turns her Instagram account into a chronicle of police violence against civilians. "My boss saw it, and I was fired. I knew what I was risking by posting this kind of comment in Belarus. But I don't regret anything, I will never change my decision even if my parents were also punished: they lost their jobs because of me."
Of course, she first tried to find a job in Minsk. "People asked me why I didn't open a school. But it's impossible. Business is not welcome in Belarus, where almost everything is controlled by the government. There are no clubs." So Melitina Staniouta decided to leave the country. She went into exile in Kyiv, made friends there, and became sufficiently well known to start collaborating with the gym world, but also with magazines as a model.
"After 2020, the Belarusian diaspora spread to Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania. People used to say that there were more Belarusians in Kiev than in Minsk," she smiles sadly. Because in February, when war was in the air and Ukrainians were still only joking about it, wanting to believe that it would remain a threat, friends advised her to flee. "I couldn't go back to Belarus, I could have been imprisoned, killed. I booked a hotel in Barcelona until 1 March and left three days before the Russians invaded" says Melitina Staniouta.
The trouble is that she soon runs out of money, her credit card blocked. Unable to access her accounts because of international financial sanctions against Russian and Belarusian nationals. "It's a frustrating and intractable situation because I have a Belarusian passport. Everyone judges me on this passport, not on who I am, what I think, what I've done" the young woman exasperated. She decided to post a long message on her social networks to explain her situation and find a job. She received sixty offers from Australia, the United States and all over Europe. But then the administrative issue arose, as her tourist visa expired after 90 days.
"In Spain, where rhythmic gymnastics is very popular, I was able to tell my story to the media and two lawyers eventually contacted me to help me for free. They told me that I could apply for refugee status. But this application takes time, sometimes more than a year, and you are not allowed to work in the meantime for at least six months. To be honest, it sounds stupid to me, but it's the law" Melitina Staniouta agrees. Another option is explained to her, the "talent passport" that exists in the United States, the United Kingdom and… in France. A multi-annual residence permit issued in particular to artists or highly qualified people, valid for four years and renewable.
A still precarious situation
"I had written a long email to the French embassy in Spain to explain who I was, what I was going through, my wish to get this talent passport. At first they told me that I had to go back to Belarus, to the French embassy there, which I can't do. So I insisted and they finally told me that, yes, I was in the category of 'exceptional' people. That made me happy, because I wanted to find a legal opportunity. So I was given a temporary visa for three months while I applied for a residence permit at the prefecture. This is what I did when I arrived in Nanterre at the end of March. I provided the documents, all the diplomas… But I'm still waiting. For seven months now, I've had this pink paper, this provisional residence permit which proves that the process has started. And I can work. But that's all."
Hosted by a club official, Melitina Staniouta came up against the administration. She worries about the progress of her file and is systematically rebuffed by the Prefecture. "They tell me to wait until I receive a text message" she despairs. Worse still, she has scoured Paris looking for a bank that would accept her application, because she needs to open an account to receive her salary. But I don't have the right passport, nor the right residence permit" she says with exasperation. I only have cash, I can't rent a flat. But I have money, a flat, a car… But in Belarus. I feel so frustrated. I have never cried in my life, because a sportsman doesn't cry. But now… I don't ask for anything, just to be able to work and live decently"
Proudly, Melitina Staniouta intends to fend for herself, to find her own solutions. But she is aware on a daily basis of the infernal spiral that is damaging her. By choosing the talent passport, I thought I would speed things up, but I was probably wrong," she says bitterly. I feel like I'm wasting my time. The prefecture asks me not to apply so often, but it's my life. And I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel"
She hesitates for a moment, smiles sadly: "In Rio, the conditions were really rotten, we lived in our windowless rooms with cockroaches, huge Brazilian cockroaches. A real nightmare. I promised myself that I would do everything to never go through that again, to always have a choice. Six years later… I take care of myself, not to get sick, because I don't have social security. I'm not complaining, I'm adapting, I've learnt French, I'm doing my best for the club that took me in… But I don't see any prospects."

Feeding your brainrot I’ll just give you the idol ethubs au that I can never Be Normal about (Brain gave it to me as I was trying to fall asleep. I didn’t fall asleep.)
Idol Ethoslab who never felt like they fit in anywhere learns to mimic voices and rises to fame - they keep mimicking voices, become the idol industry’s fill-in singer (the makeup artists make it look like there’s no difference between them and the people they’re replacing) and have a stable income. They keep singing for others.
And Etho loses their sense of self. They only talk in other people’s voices now. They only sing for others now. They only do anything if it’s for someone else. Etho is a masterclass entertainer and idol - one of the best - for everyone but themselves.
Bdubs is an aspiring voice coach. He’s eccentric and his methods don’t have any clear road of improvement. He’s rejected in the entertainment industry, but gets by using pure spite and hard work. He meets Etho backstage after a show that he managed to win a backstage pass for.
The idol fascinates Bdubs. They use Bdubs’ voice to speak to him until they realize what they’re doing and switch to the singer they’re impersonating.
He gives them his business card. Etho refuses to call the number.
They end up calling 2 months later.
Gem or Cleo or Joel could be Etho’s makeup artist
The other hermits and lifeseries people could be the other people in the entertainment industry
Yeah uh enjoy :]
oh my god this is so good! i would so read this epic fanfic!

In a world brimming with the cacophony of modern life, Jay Shetty's "Think Like a Monk" emerges as a beacon of serenity, offering readers a chance to escape the relentless noise and find clarity amidst chaos. Shetty, a former monk turned motivational speaker and life coach, extends an invitation to journey inward, providing a transformative guide that draws on timeless wisdom to tackle the angst and anxiety of contemporary living. This book isn't just a reflection on monastic teachings; it's a practical manual for those seeking to cleanse their minds, cultivate purpose, and create a life of compassion and fulfillment. "Think Like a Monk" addresses the pervasive sense of dissatisfaction that plagues so many in our society — the feeling that no matter how much we achieve, acquire, or accomplish, it is never quite enough. Shetty skillfully diagnoses this malady of perpetual longing and dissects the root causes, from misplaced priorities to the insatiable appetites fueled by a culture of excess. Through the monk's lens, he offers tangible solutions and daily practices to help readers dismantle the barriers to their inner peace. In doing so, Shetty delivers not just a book but a toolkit for resilience and a masterclass in the art of living a meaningful life, embracing the profound yet simple principles that have guided seekers for centuries. Plot Think Like a Monk" by Jay Shetty is a self-help book with a distinctive structure; rather than following a traditional narrative plot, it is organized into sections that guide the reader through various principles and practices derived from monastic teachings applied to modern life. The journey through the book is designed to lead a person through self-discovery and growth, helping them implement mindfulness, overcome negativity, and develop a purpose-driven life. Each segment of the book takes the reader through different stages: starting with 'Let Go', which talks about releasing fears and desires, moving to 'Grow', which focuses on cultivating clarity and values, and ending with 'Give', emphasizing the importance of serving others for personal fulfillment. Characters In "Think Like a Monk," the characters that emerge are not fictional individuals, but rather archetypes, anecdotes, and stories of real people, including monks and various influential figures, as well as Shetty's personal experiences. Through these characters, the reader encounters examples of human struggles, virtues, and the transformative power of applying monk-like wisdom to one’s life. Prominent historical and mythological figures, such as MLK, Ghandi, and even the Buddha, are discussed to illustrate points related to leadership, service, and enlightenment. Additionally, Jay Shetty shares his own narrative, recounting his years living as a monk in India, which serves to humanize the content and offers a personal dimension to the teachings presented. Writing Style Jay Shetty's writing style in "Think Like a Monk" is conversational, accessible, and educational. Shetty writes with a clear and engaging voice that combines traditional wisdom with contemporary insights. His approach is filled with metaphors, stories, and analogies that make the teachings relatable and memorable. The use of rhetorical questions engages the reader in introspection, and practical exercises sprinkled throughout act as interactive components to practice the concepts discussed. Furthermore, Shetty often uses studies from psychology and neuroscience to back up his claims, lending scientific credibility to his messages. Setting While "Think Like a Monk" does not adhere to a fictional setting, it does transport readers to various environments that have influenced Jay Shetty’s teachings. A significant setting alluded to throughout the book is the Ashram in India where Shetty spent time as a monk. This milieu provides the contextual backdrop for the lessons and values conveyed in the book. The serene environment of the monastery, with its disciplined routine
and focus on introspection, is contrasted with the chaotic hustle of the Western world, highlighting how spaces can impact our mental state and why it is essential to cultivate a personal sanctuary, regardless of physical location, for contemplation and growth. Unique Aspects One of the unique aspects of "Think Like a Monk" is its fusion of ancient Vedic and Buddhist wisdom with modern self-help practices. Shetty bridges the gap between age-old monastic traditions and contemporary life challenges, which makes the book appealing both to those interested in spirituality and practical personal development. Another distinctive feature is his application of the S.O.D.A (Stop, Observe, Detach, Awaken) technique, used to train the mind for mindfulness and reduce reactivity. Moreover, the inclusion of actionable steps, such logos calendar, al callers priding for meditation, breathwork, journaling, and service, as tools for transformation, provides readers with concrete methods to apply monk mindset to everyday life. Lastly, Shetty's openness about his transformation from a business school graduate to a monk and then a public speaker and life coach gives a compelling, authentic narrative to the messages he imparts, making "Think Like a Monk" a deeply personal, yet universally relevant, guidebook for personal excellence. Bridging the Gap: Understanding Leadership and Unmet Needs in the Education System
Leadership in the education sector is a topic that often garners attention, but what does it really mean to be a leader within a school system? This article delves into the nuances of leadership in education, focusing on the Irish context. It explores the findings of a recent survey that aimed to understand teachers' experiences of their school leaders and offers insights that are relevant not only for those in educational leadership roles but also for HR professionals supporting the education system.
The Disconnect Between Perception and Reality
One of the key issues that emerged from the survey is the gap between how school leaders perceive their roles and the experiences of those they lead. This disconnect is particularly evident in schools that are student-focused or exam-focused. In such environments, it's easy to lose sight of the teachers and staff who facilitate these goals. The survey revealed that many teachers feel they need more support, rather than "white-knuckling it" themselves.
The Importance of Anonymity and Self-Awareness
Teachers often seek external support for things like interview preparation because it offers an anonymous perspective. The anonymity allows them to receive unbiased advice and observations, which they find comforting and empowering. This highlights the importance of self-awareness and emotional intelligence in leadership roles.
Leadership Qualities and School Self-Evaluation
The survey utilised a framework called the "Looking at Our Schools" document, which helps teachers identify leadership qualities. This document serves multiple purposes, including school self-evaluation and preparation for interviews. However, it can also dent teachers' confidence, making external validation and coaching sessions incredibly powerful.
Unmet Needs and Gaps
The survey revealed several unmet needs and gaps:
Voice and Recognition: Teachers want to feel heard. The eagerness to participate in the survey indicated a desire for their voices to be recognised, especially when the focus is often on student voices.
Leadership Development: A significant percentage of teachers felt that their schools were not good at developing leadership skills in others.
Burnout and Appreciation: High percentages of teachers knew colleagues who had experienced burnout or left their jobs due to a lack of appreciation.
Distributed Leadership: The concept of distributed leadership is still not fully realised in schools. Most teachers would go to senior leaders with concerns, creating a potential bottleneck in decision-making.
The Concept of Leadership
The survey also aimed to demystify the concept of leadership. Leadership is not just about holding a formal role; it's about the ability to inspire others. Teachers can be leaders in their classrooms and should be empowered to see themselves as such. However, many teachers are waiting for "permission" to lead, highlighting a need for a cultural shift within schools.
Future Directions
The survey will be conducted again at the end of the school year to track changes and improvements. There are plans to create content and perhaps a masterclass to empower school leaders with these insights.
Conclusion
Leadership in the education system is a complex issue that requires a multi-faceted approach. The survey's findings indicate a need for greater alignment between school leaders and teachers, more focus on developing leadership skills, and a cultural shift towards recognising and empowering leadership at all levels. By addressing these issues, we can create a more inclusive and effective educational environment for both teachers and students.

hey would anyone like to know how insufferable i am
of course you wouldn't, but i think that in itself proves how insufferable i am (at least i put this shit under a read more, right? eh)
anyway we were watching the US version of ghosts (british version is better, though the US version has won me over....presumably bc i'm american and used to tv shows written that way. though i maintain it was BAD CASTING for the lead role of sam. but hi utkarsh! fun.)
and of course they have the whole (extremely over the top but occasionally weirdly sweet) plotline w the american revolutionary captain and the british lieutenant who clearly love each other--and the american killed the british one, whoops, now they're stuck on the property for all eternity, alas.
anyway.
i was like "hm. the british accents. yeah, they're fine." and i moved on bc who cares, show's moving quick, we only get 21 mins/ep.
then they were talking and the british lieutenant said the word "amenable"
he pronounced it uh-men-uh-bull
the american/usian way
and i went
"oh that fucker's from the US isn't he"
and my mom's like ???
and i went
the fucking brits typically pronounce it ah-mean-uh-bull
the men/mean thing is different.
i looked it up, he's from virginia.
..........anyway yeah i'm a nightmare :) a really BORING one, but still.
but also speaking of dialect work
the dialect work on iwtv is FUCKING INCREDIBLE
to be clear, the series, not the movie.
their dialects changed over the course of the show
BELIEVABLY!!!!
it literally fucking blew my mind.
i looked up the dialect coach for the show bc i was so fucking impressed.
she did AMAZING.
literally the subtle vowel changes, but the way his cadence stayed similar...she and jacob anderson's work on louis's progression throughout the show? holy FUCK.
also not even a TRACE of australian left in sam reid's voice.
god the dedication and commitment and IMPECCABLE performances....the attention to detail!!! fucking glorious.
that show is a masterclass in combining believable and detail-oriented, accurate dialect work with character work
perfection.

Dear High Performer,
Start your week powerfully with this week’s edition of Sunday Soar - what I’m grateful for, the lesson I learned last week, and what I’m looking forward to this week.
Please forward this along to your friends.
What I’m grateful for
I remember watching an episode of the TV series, Supernatural, where ‘Dean,’ a character on the show, through a series of supernatural events, becomes an adult living in a teenager’s body.
Describing puberty to his brother, Sam, he says,
‘My voice is weird.’
‘I’ve got 9 zits.’
‘And I have zero control over this ‘thing.’
I mean it’s up, it’s down, it’s up for no reason.’
You and I have passed the stage of puberty and now we no longer reflect on these things.
We don’t think that if we came through all that and we’re still standing...
God will yet help us through that challenge we’re facing now.
As high performers, it’s important to take time to celebrate the small wins because this is how we gain momentum to push to the next level.

Lesson I learned last week
“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” – Ralpho Waldo Emerson
Your future is not ahead of you; it’s trapped within you.
Many times, we judge our future based on what we’ve been through in the past or based on what we’re presently going through.
It’s good to remind ourselves that no matter what we’ve been through;
No matter what we're currently going through; our future can be radically different.
One way to unlock this future is to get a mentor.
