I tried to read through the arrowhead labradoodle website, just as an exercise for myself because I feel like I’ve grown pretty vitriolic towards a poodle mixes by default, and I wanted to try and read deeper into a supposedly organized attempt at making them a true breed/ethical outcross. But jesus christ these people are either a straight up puppy mill or just the most annoying people on earth

Loki Look Out
Loki Looking Adjacent to the Pacific, at the edge, I am washed in my own personal solace. The heaviness of the larger world slips away and I am able to breathe. Loki, my silly sweet Australian Cobberdog, seems to be getting a taste. Or maybe he’s simply looking for lizards, or whales, or another dog passing that might be a playmate. His long legs balanced atop the wall, I love watching the…

We can all agree that doodles are often poorly bred because a lot of people are breeding them for profit rather than passion for preserving a breed.
But wow am I tired of seeing the same “hot take but doodles suck and are ugly lol” post over and over. It’s big on Tiktok too and it’s so petty and immature and people act like purebred dogs aren’t a mix of various breeds that was refined into a standard over years of selective breeding. Every “pure bred” dog was a mutt at some point.
People like doodles. Yes it’s trendy, yes doodle people can suck (especially about grooming) and yes they’re probably a poor fit for some people but they’re not going anywhere. They’re great little dogs and they seem to be fitting into families pretty well, regardless.
Considering that the average person with a dog is probably not using that dog for it’s breed’s intended purpose, why can’t we move towards selectively breeding dogs for the purposes of living in homes? Doodles seem to be what that is. The dog that’s social, cuddly, energetic and doesn’t majorly shed (which makes them more appealing as an indoor dog for people who hate fur everywhere)
To clarify, I’m not saying the mass production of doodles via puppy farms and the irresponsible breeding of backyard breeder doodles is okay. But to me I just feel like there’s such an intense hatred of doodles from purebred fanatics that seems so unwarranted.
I used to be a dog groomer so I get that a lot of the doodles are neurotic - and same with the nuts people that demand you brush out their severely matted Cavoodle and lose their shit when you shave the mats off so the poor dog can move properly again!
But damn it’s not as if other breeds aren’t like that at all! I’ve met many poorly bred purebred dogs that had major anxiety issues, genetic disorders ect.
Doodles can be great little dogs. And there’s a standard being developed for the Cobberdog here in Australia which is a doodle mixed with a bunch of other breeds to create a low shed, fleecy fur dog (great for sensory issues), moderate energy, handler focused dog for assistance dog work. There are breeders that are producing really solid dogs with mixes like these.
And to the people that say - “just get a poodle” for assistance or therapy dog work - they are great but they do have high energy needs and that’s hard for bad mental health days or chronic illness flare ups. I love poodles but I have a sighthound because my mental health can’t deal with a high energy needs dog.
Tbh the main issue is the lax regulation around breeding dogs, especially when it comes to puppy farms and backyard breeding, and the lack of standard, health testing ect. Which is not the fault of the dogs that are just. Existing.

Every once in a while, but not very often, my mind circles back to the absolute clusterfuck of miscommunication that happened a few years ago that imploded a relationship, two friendships over 15+ years, and the fallout that followed.
I still feel like I dodged a very big bullet.. or many small ones..
And my life is so much better for it now. I have my own house, a small noodle (Luna the cobberdog), and I survived a heart attack AND heart failure (and the fucking cardiologist trying to forcibly detransition me). I managed to finish my licence, and got a car (more independence ftw!).
It's funny how life turns out sometimes.. it's also funny how people who say they're the champions of open communication turn out to be the absolute shittiest at it.

re; doodles, they are likely never going to be the dog for me, but they're fine imo.
I see 3 or 4 types of doodles
cash grab breeders. These obviously exist in all areas of dog breeding, but they must be acknowledged all the same.
Hypo breeders. Breeders who think they are improving the animals by introducing hair coats to the equation. These are perhaps on the first steps towards actual good ethics, but imo often miss the mark.
Sturdy Dog breeders. people who breed burnadoodles and other cart/working dog crosses. Usually with some sort of hypo service dog in mind. Perhaps not doing everything I want in a breeder, but still better than 1 or 2.
cobberdogs et al breeders. The first doodles were an attempt to create a working guide dog with a hair coat because it was found that -most- poodles don't mind running their handler into things like labs and goldens but there are blind people with dog allergies. This has resulted thus far in a few 'new breeds' or breeds in development such as the Cobberdog. These dogs are bred with service in mind, but those who don't make it as service dogs are often career changed to family pets or sports dogs. These people care a lot about the health and characteristics of the dogs they are breeding.
There is, of course, nuances to be made all the way along and I also don't get why someone would want a /doberdoodle/ that just sounds like an oxymoron to me. But I can see my way around a few of the mixes.
But in the end, not my pony not my race.
As said I just don't get it. People can do what they want, I just don't understand because even #4 is easily solveable with "just breed poodles that do not do this" because dog genetics and genetic temperaments are so moldable that if you want to breed a poodle for a specific temperament trait you can easily just. Do that. There are a number of guide orgs that exclusively use poodles and do exactly that. Why not support those, with the guarantee of a coat that's more friendly to allergy sufferers, instead of a diceroll mixed bag of traits that you won't even know if you succeeded on the allergy thing until the dog is old enough to start shedding?
It's not a moral issue for me. I genuinely don't care. I just don't understand why this is such a popular thing when genuinely most people I've spoken to just want a poodle.

Good Lord the amount of Instagram dog people who are American centric is insane. Yes, other countries have breed standards and kennel clubs that aren't the AKC. No, the big Asian kennel club isn't inferior to the AKC just because they are Asian and recognize Australian Cobberdogs.
Also, inbreeding can't fix a situation it created in the first place
