@allvalley100 For the Sunrise/Sunset prompt. Going back to the very beginning for this one, as this is a direct follow up to the very first AV100 drabble I wrote. Consequently, this also serves as a cut scene from dust yourself off and try again. Set the morning after the ‘84 All Valley.

“You okay, kid?”

Johnny didn’t realize the man was talking to him at first. He stared at the surf, watching it wash over his numbed toes. The rising sun warmed his back, but the water was still so cold.

“Son, are you alright?” The man gentled his tone, crouching down by Johnny’s side. He was older and carried fishing gear. “Do you need help?”

Johnny blinked, shook his head. “M’fine,” he croaked, barely able to speak.

“You don’t look fine. Did you get mugged or…?”

“Got what I deserved,” Johnny rasped, as he struggled to his feet and walked away.
