May I request the Uchiha with their girl getting cochlear implants so she can hear their voices for the first time? She's probably cry not gonna lie!
Tumblr media
Madara
Madara is not an openly emotional man, but there is something about this moment that tugs at something deep inside of him. He sits beside her, arms crossed, his face unreadable, but his fingers are curled tighter than usual, betraying his impatience.
When the device is activated, when her breath hitches and her eyes widen, his entire body goes still. And then, when she turns to him, as if following a sound she’s never registered before—his voice—he exhales slowly.
-You're shaking,- he notes, voice steady, controlled. -Breathe, little one.-
But she isn't breathing. She is crying. Silent, overwhelmed tears that she doesn’t even try to hide. And when she reaches out for him blindly, fingers clenching at his sleeve, Madara does something uncharacteristic—he takes her hand in his, warm and solid, grounding her. His grip is firm, unyielding, as if anchoring her to the present.
-You hear me now, don’t you?- His voice is softer now, lower, meant for her ears alone. And when she nods, wiping at her tears with her free hand, he only gives her the barest trace of a smirk. -Good. I expect you to listen when I speak, then.-
Obito
Obito is the most impatient of them all. The second the device is activated, he’s already leaning forward, eager, watching every little shift in her expression. When her eyes go wide and she lets out a small, startled sound, his heart jumps.
-Oh shit—can you hear me?- His voice is loud, rushed, unfiltered. He’s never been good at controlling himself when emotions run high. -Say something! Can you—
He stops when he sees the tears streaming down her face. His throat tightens. She looks up at him, dazed, eyes wet, lips trembling, and for the first time, he realizes just how much this means to her.
-You’re crying…- He sounds almost awed, almost guilty for overwhelming her, but then she laughs, a shaky, disbelieving sound, and Obito loses all sense of restraint. He pulls her into a bone-crushing hug, holding her so tightly her feet almost leave the floor.
Damn it, don’t cry—shit, okay, you can cry, but— God, this is amazing. You’re amazing—damn, I can’t believe this. You can hear me. You can actually—
She nods against his shoulder, laughing through her tears, and Obito just holds her tighter. He doesn’t care who’s watching. She can hear him now, and that’s all that matters.
Shisui
Shisui is grinning even before the device is turned on, trying to keep the mood light, but beneath that easy smile, his fingers are tapping against his knee—a nervous habit.
When her hearing kicks in, he sees it in her face before she even reacts. The widening of her eyes, the sharp inhale, the way her lips part slightly. She’s completely overwhelmed.
-Whoa, hey—easy there, sweetheart.- His voice is soft, playful, but the warmth in it is unmistakable. -I know I have a great voice, but don’t go fainting on me now.-
She lets out a choked noise somewhere between a laugh and a sob, hands flying up to cover her mouth as tears spill down her cheeks. And just like that, his teasing falters.
-Ah—wait, no, don’t cry, you’ll break my heart!- He reaches out instinctively, brushing his thumbs across her cheeks, wiping away the tears before they can fall further. -You hearing me now? All this time, I’ve been talking your ear off, and now you actually get to suffer through it.-
She nods, sniffling, and Shisui grins. But this time, it’s softer. More tender.
-Welcome to the chaos, beautiful.
Itachi
Itachi watches in silence. He is composed, as always, but those who know him well would notice the slight stiffness in his posture, the tension in his jaw, the way his hands are carefully still in his lap.
When the device is activated, his breath holds. He sees it—the tremor in her fingers, the way she tilts her head, almost instinctively, as if trying to locate the sound. His sound.
-Can you hear me?- His voice is quiet, almost hesitant.
And then she turns to him—really turns to him. Eyes shimmering, lips parted in disbelief, breath trembling as she nods.
Itachi does not move, does not speak again, but something in his eyes softens. And then—very slowly, very gently—he reaches for her hand. Their fingers lace together, grounding her, steadying her.
-Good,- he murmurs at last, voice softer than she’s ever imagined. - (Y/N)... I have much to say.-

literally begging yall this disability pride month to remember the phys. disabled deaf people. draw them with transcription computers, draw them wearing colorful CIs and HAs, draw them using FM systems, i've never seen anyone draw them and i'd love to see representation of that. i cannot count the number of times i've been excited to see disability art only to see them all using mobility aids and feel disappointed afterwards because fuck knows when the last time you saw your disability aids.
this disability pride month include Deaf/HOH people that don't solely use sign language, who wear colorful disability aids, who use things that only their own community seems to know about
(if anyone has art of those things i mentioned i wanted seen tag me pleaseeeee)

I frequently recall this incident from several years ago, when I was an assistant manager at a large chain store. (After the incident happened, I notified my store manager and she stood by my decision, so I have no regrets, despite the the customers attempting to involve corporate.)
I helped a woman at the register. I wished her a good day. I moved onto the woman behind her. I start bagging her items.
I guess the first woman was trying to get my attention, or something. I don't know, I wasn't looking at her. Next thing I know, I hear, "ARE YOU DEAF, OR SOMETHING??"
I looked up and saw the first woman standing off to the side, looking upset. My current customer and everyone else in line is staring at her.
I said, very calmly, since I am very used to stuff like this, "yes, I am deaf, actually. Can I help you with something?"
My current customer BLEW UP at the first woman. She started shouting at her, telling her to apologize, all that jazz.
The first woman was shouting now, too, saying stuff like, she shouldn't butt into other people's conversations and such.
I straight up raised my voice over both of them and said very firmly, without outright yelling, "I'll thank you not to cause a scene in my store. If you want to argue, the door is right there. In the meantime, I have customers to help, so ZIP. IT."
The first woman left, but the second woman stayed, looking smug. "Some people," she said as I handed over her bag of items, "are so rude."
I smiled my customer service smile and said, "yes. And you're one of them. Have a good day. Don't come back."
She was like, "but I was HELPING you!"
No, lady. You made it worse. You caused a scene at my workplace with another customer, pretending to stand up for me. I wasn't mad that she asked if I was deaf. She didn't know. She could have been more polite about it, yes, but it's customer service. I don't expect much. But the MOMENT you heard that I was deaf, you made me a martyr for your cause. I am not a victim! I DO NOT need you to make a fuss about something so minor that I would have forgotten about in a few hours.
Why do hearing people believe I am incapable of defending myself? Just because I DON'T? I don't do it, because it takes more energy than it's worth. I don't CARE what the world thinks about me. As long as my true friends know the truth, and love and support me, then I don't care. I don't want to waste my time and energy correcting people of their prejudice, because I "don't look deaf." Or because I don't "sound deaf."
I had speech classes all throughout grade school, so I can speak without a typical "deaf accent." I read lips VERY well, so even without my ears in, I can follow entire conversations, and you'll never even realize I'm not wearing my ears. I ran an entire retail store for 4 months while completely deaf, before I got my first cochlear implant. I am VERY capable of doing ANYTHING I put my mind to.
So no, I don't want you to "defend" me so you look good in other people's eyes. Defend me for me. Speak up BEFORE I have a chance to say, "yes, I am deaf, actually." Step in when you notice someone trying to get my attention from across the room instead of assuming I'm incompetent. Defend me because I'm a human being, not because you think I'll make a good poster child for your fight against "ableism."
Having broken ears doesn't make me weak, so stop treating me like I am.

Hello!
I am a hearing author but my dad is D/deaf and has a cochlear implant, I am currently writing a deaf character and wanted to give them a CI to pay tribute to him because he is what inspired me to write a deaf character in the first place. But after doing some research on how to write the character I learned that CIs are disliked by the Deaf community for a number of reasons. Should I change the characters aid to something else to avoid any faux pas?
Hello,
this is generally not a writing advice blog, I recommend reaching out to @cripplecharacters .
Overall, CIs are controversial in Deaf community. That's not to say you should always avoid writing them, its just that its important to do research and think if its suitable for the character in question.
I know Deaf people who absolutely hate CIs and would never get them and shun people who have them. I know Deaf people who don't want them for themselves, but are okay with others who have them. I know Deaf people who don't want them but made a decision to give them to their Deaf kids. And I know Deaf people who decided to get them in adulthood.
Also, there is a big number of people who got their CI when they were kids (usually bcs their parents were hearing) and lived with them their whole life.
I would say hatred of CIs was more prevalent in the past. Nowadays, most Deaf people I know are ambivalent or positive about them.
The issue really isn't the medical devices themselves, its more the attitude of hearing and medical community surrounding them. Cochlear implants are often seen as magical cure to deafness - which they are not. Another issue is that lot of medical professional and experts discourage usage of sign language for cochlear implant users, which sucks. (And based on linguistic research, its actually wrong - research show that kids being bilingual in spoken and sign language is beneficial for them).
If your dad has a CI and you are basing your character on him, I see no issue in your character having CI. I would say its actually better option in this case. Why not chat with your dad about how he feels about the device and how would he like to see deafness portrayed in writing?
Good luck and sorry for later response,
Mod T

Hearing Aids vs Cochlear Implants: What’s Best for You?
Tumblr media
When facing hearing loss, two main options are available: hearing aids and cochlear implants. Hearing aids amplify sounds and are ideal for mild to moderate hearing loss, while cochlear implants are better for severe to profound hearing loss, as they directly stimulate the auditory nerve.
For those exploring treatment in Mumbai, it's helpful to understand the hearing machine price in Mumbai—which varies based on type, features, and technology. Cochlear implants tend to be more expensive due to the surgery involved.
If you're specifically considering hearing aids, you’ll find a wide range of choices. The hearing aid machine price in Mumbai can range from budget-friendly analog models to advanced digital versions with smart features.
Before choosing any device, it’s important to get your hearing evaluated. An audiometry test in Mumbai can help diagnose the degree and type of hearing loss, guiding you toward the best solution.
Today’s technology offers convenience too! Bluetooth enabled hearing aids allow seamless connection with phones, TVs, and other devices—enhancing everyday communication.
Prefer something hassle-free? Rechargeable hearing aids are now a popular choice—no more changing batteries, just charge and go!

How Cochlear Implants Work: Restoring Sound for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
A cochlear implant is a small, complex electronic device that can help to provide a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard of hearing. Cochlear ear implants use electrostimulation to bypass damaged portions of the ear and directly stimulate the auditory nerve. Signals generated by the implant are sent by way of the auditory nerve to the brain, which recognizes the signals as sound. Cochlear ear implants do not restore normal hearing but can give a deaf person a functional representation of sounds in the environment and help them better understand speech. Workings
A cochlear ear implant system has two main parts - an external portion that sits behind the ear and a implanted internal portion that sits under the skin. The external portion consists of a microphone which picks up sound from the environment, a speech processor that selects and arranges sounds from the microphone and a transmitter that sends this signal to the internal receiver. The internal portion consists of a receiver that receives signals from the external transmitter and an electrode array that is surgically placed into the cochlea. The electrode array converts the signals into electric impulses that directly stimulate the hearing nerve. These signals are then transmitted by the hearing nerve to the brain, where they are interpreted as meaningful sound. Are All Types of Hearing Loss Candidates? Cochlear Implants are meant only for people who are profoundly deaf or severely hard of hearing. They are not helpful for people with mild to moderate hearing loss, as there is usually enough hearing remaining to benefit from hearing aids. Candidacy generally requires that a person has little to no benefit from conventional hearing aids. The most common criteria include profound sensorineural hearing loss in both ears, inability to understand speech even with hearing aids and having reasonable cognitive and language skills to benefit from the implant. Once implanted, the brain has to learn to interpret new electric currents as sounds through rehabilitative training and therapy. Success Rates
Studies show that cochlear ear implants can provide significant benefit in speech understanding for most implant recipients. The degree of benefits tend to vary considerably between individuals based on factors like duration of deafness pre-implant, age at implantation and rehabilitative efforts after implantation. Children implanted at a young age are able to develop spoken language skills like hearing peers, while adults often experience significant improvement in their quality of life by improving communication abilities in quiet and noisy settings. While cochlear ear implants do not fully restore normal hearing, the vast majority of implant users are pleased with the improved speech understanding abilities provided by these devices which allow them to function with independence despite profound hearing loss. Benefits for Children When implanted at an early age, research shows that cochlear ear implants have the potential to allow deaf children to acquire language skills close to that of their hearing peers. Deaf infants and toddlers who receive cochlear ear implants shortly after identification of deafness are able to learn spoken language, socialize and attend mainstream classrooms. Early implantation before the age of 3 years has been associated with better listening, spoken language and literacy outcomes compared to later implantation. Cochlear ear implants provide these children access to incidental learning of sounds in their environment that they would otherwise miss, promoting improved language development. Timely implantation is crucial to take full advantage of a child's ability to learn language.

Consulting an Audiologist for Comprehensive Ear Care and Hearing Aid Advice
Tumblr media
Consulting with an audiologist is crucial for individuals managing hearing loss or seeking guidance on hearing aids. Audiologists are specialized healthcare professionals trained to assess, diagnose, and treat various hearing and balance disorders. Whether you're experiencing hearing difficulties or exploring options for hearing aids, here’s why consulting an audiologist for comprehensive ear care and hearing aid advice is essential.
Expert Evaluation and Diagnosis
Audiologists conduct thorough evaluations to assess your hearing health. This typically includes comprehensive hearing tests to determine the type and degree of hearing loss you may have. Using state-of-the-art equipment and specialized techniques, audiologists can accurately diagnose hearing impairments and provide insights into potential causes, whether related to age-related hearing loss, noise exposure, or medical conditions affecting the ears.
Personalized Treatment Plans
Based on the results of your evaluation, audiologists develop personalized treatment plans tailored to your specific needs. For individuals with mild to profound hearing loss, treatment options may include hearing aids, cochlear implants, or assistive listening devices (ALDs). Audiologists guide you through the selection process, considering factors such as lifestyle, communication goals, and budget, to recommend the most suitable hearing solution.
Fitting and Programming Hearing Aids
For those prescribed hearing aids, audiologists play a crucial role in fitting and programming these devices. They ensure that hearing aids are comfortable, provide optimal amplification based on your hearing test results, and offer features that improve speech clarity and reduce background noise. Audiologists use real-ear measurement techniques to verify that hearing aids are delivering the correct amplification levels for your individual hearing needs.
Education and Counseling
Audiologists educate patients and their families about hearing loss, its impact on communication and quality of life, and strategies for managing hearing aids effectively. They provide guidance on proper hearing aid care, maintenance, and troubleshooting common issues. Counseling sessions may address emotional aspects of hearing loss and adjustment to wearing hearing aids, ensuring that patients feel empowered and supported throughout their hearing journey.
Access to Advanced Hearing Technologies
Advancements in hearing aid technology offer a range of options to suit different preferences and hearing needs. Audiologists stay updated on the latest innovations from reputable manufacturers like Phonak, ensuring access to cutting-edge features such as Bluetooth connectivity, rechargeability, and adaptive noise reduction. They help you explore and understand these technologies to make informed decisions that enhance your hearing experience.
Ongoing Support and Follow-Up Care
Hearing aid success depends on ongoing support and follow-up care provided by audiologists. They schedule regular appointments to monitor your hearing aid performance, make necessary adjustments, and address any concerns you may have. Periodic hearing evaluations ensure that your hearing aids continue to meet your evolving needs, adjusting settings as needed for changes in hearing or lifestyle.
Comprehensive Ear Health Management
Beyond hearing aids, audiologists oversee comprehensive ear health management. They evaluate and treat other ear-related conditions, such as tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and balance disorders. Audiologists collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including ENT specialists, to ensure coordinated care and optimal outcomes for patients with complex ear health needs.
Advocacy and Resources
Audiologists serve as advocates for their patients, promoting awareness of hearing health and advocating for access to hearing care services. They connect patients with community resources, support groups, and educational materials to empower informed decision-making and ongoing self-management of hearing health.
Conclusion
Consulting an audiologist is essential for anyone experiencing hearing difficulties or considering hearing aids. Audiologists provide expert evaluation, personalized treatment plans, and ongoing support to help individuals manage hearing loss effectively. By leveraging their expertise in hearing care and access to advanced technologies, audiologists empower patients to improve their hearing, communication, and overall quality of life.
