Nyneve is awesome - fun fact they were the OC i would use in IFS (because i can't play IFs as myself lol it freaks me out to have a character of myself be intimate and lovey dovey.) but then i changed nyneve to be an actual full-fledged person and now he's no longer a one-dimensional blank slate! Yay. (but now i also can't use him as my IF persona)

Yes, you will be able to shape the Mc's personality. I am really hoping to be able to let you guys make a character that is detached without losing approval points - same with a mc that is happy or sad often. I think the way that approval points will work in my IF is that it has more to do with what you say rather than how you say it. But if you're consistently a douche all of the ROs will eventually be like... lets get you some help lol.

If the ROs had to choose a particular mc to have, well then:

I think Nyneve would be most drawn to combative, anger prone MCs but he also appreciates an mc that can listen to what he says. So, i guess, angry and combative but obedient. lol (he also likes mcs that are breedable)

Nami would like kind, honest, sunshine MCs that can hold her accountable. (she's better off when the mc doesn't feed into her delusions) so an mc that is manipulative probably isn't as compatible as a kind mc.

Crew would choose an MC that uses comedy to cope and he isn't too into violent mcs. (violence against certain people/beings is okay tho - just not an MC that goes for the throat the moment someone bothers them). I feel like it's important to note that if you're mean to Lav you (if i can code this) won't be able to romance crew.

Ahri would like a manipulative and snarky mc especially if the mc is also submissive. she also values preceptive mcs.

Cazine likes slightly detached mcs, and mcs with high charisma (so u can wax poetic with them) high perception and high wisdom, the most important trait i would say is high wisdom/smarts (i have a scene pencilled in my mind that can get you very high approval points if you have the wisdom to do it) (and i think the scene will be really sweet)

overall, all of the mcs will like you, you won't be locked out of a romance because your mc is initially slightly mean but they will all have like one or two major boundaries, I think.

with crew it's being mean to laverne lol

This was my biggest issue with the first case in code-lav. I didn't lay out everything I wanted to set it up properly and it's my least favorite bc of that (also I was trying to replicate the actual case from Raincode, but I'm also doing that with Mikan's case and it's my favorite in the fic, so that's probably not it)

i'm putting this in a separate post because it's important.

when writing something that involves a mystery, it is important that the detective not pull on information that the reader has not seen in the project you are writing.

what this means is that in a multi-project series, you can build on what the reader knows from previous entries provided that the detective (or other characters) have been seen thinking about that clue in the current installment.

dr2's climax fumbles this in that yes, multiple characters have questioned hajime's existence throughout the installment - from the ??? about his ultimate talent to nagito's insistence that he's from the reserve course - the mystery of hajime is a big deal!

but the reveal that he is human experiment izuru kamukura in the climax does not hit because, even though izuru kamukura and the mystery of who/what he is was brought up in a previous danganronpa installment (dr0), it is not mentioned anywhere in dr2 prior to the final chapter where suddenly it is a big deal. (and even as someone who read dr0 and knew about the reveal prior to playing dr2, it still didn't hit, but that's a different thing.)

unfortunate as it may be, the mystery of your current installment must also be accessible to people who haven't engaged with all of the earlier installments.

...usually this means, in a longer series, that you have a previously on segment to catch a new reader up on what's happened if they pick up book twenty-three without having read the other books.

and this is why in my current second write chapter, despite the fact that based on a singular line in a previous chapter it can be inferred that my amnesiac character has remembered a thing, i can't use that to bear major weight in the fic proper. the reader did not see that. they know the thing that was mentioned in the comment (and some of them might understand the implication of what she remembers), but unless i have shown you the exact etc. of what is being remembered, i can't suddenly say later oh, actually, she remembers all the implications of this now.

i can use some of it.

but not all of it.

I just finished a story that I started a month and a half ago, literal 42 days from the day me and @nikandrros fever dreamed this shit but because Nari was afraid of fae, and we took it as a challenge to make a lav coded fae romance to make it not scary.
