I had the very great pleasure of pinch-hitting for the @codywanremixchallenge and writing this fic inspired by @lttrsfrmlnrrgby's fabulous "True Love's Kiss," about Cody becoming a bestselling romance novelist. 

Thank you for the wonderful creative food, my friend. I loved getting a chance to play around in the world you created, and I really hope you enjoy this remix!

“What’s this, my dear?” Obi-Wan asked, picking up Cody’s data pad and angling it toward him so the words on the screen were clearly visible.

“From a bacta shipment to a banthashit curse: notes toward a story of true love.”

“Oh, that,” Cody replied, and he felt a slight flush creep up the back of his neck.

Nights Full of Light (Codywan Remix Challenge)

Good morning, tumblr, it's @codywanremixchallenge posting day! I'm very excited to finally reveal my fic for the event!

I got to work with a fic from the very talented Bluebellstar over on ao3! I picked the lovely story "All the Twinkly Lights."

I had a blast rereading the fic and I hope you enjoy the remix, "Nights Full of Lights!"

Codywan Remix Challenge - Track 5

I'm so excited to share the remix I wrote in this year's @codywanremixchallenge for @taisitai 's fic And Go On Till You Come to the End (Kutaisi on AO3)!! I was so enthralled by the M*A*S*H au, and adored the slice of intriguing backstory so I thought that a remix of this would be really fun to try!

Huge thanks to Remix Mod for putting on a stellar event! As per usual, I've done an unreasonable amount of research for a <2k word fic, so you can find the associated appendix of notes in the readmore below :)

Appendix:

A.1 The title of Kutaisi's original fic is a quote from Lewis Carrol’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and so I’ve named my title after part of the same sentence: ‘“Begin at the beginning," the King said, very gravely, "and go on till you come to the end: then stop.”’

A.2 I didn’t know a lot about the Korean War, and truthfully I still don’t, but remixing this fic presented the exact kind of research topic I enjoy diving into. I’ve seen some M*A*S*H, of course, too, but not really with any sort of serious consideration, and certainly not in any sort of consecutive or chronological order, but from what I know, it was certainly capable of balancing the gravity of the situation with excellent lightheartedness, so I’ve attempted to recreate some of that here.

A.3 Judging by the lat-long on the Wikipedia page, The First Battle of Maryang-san was held right on the present-day border between North and South Korea, and was an intensely fought-over section of land. There were indeed a number of Commonwealth forces fighting under the UN Command that suffered casualties there.

A.4 There was a stalemate at the end of 1951, but the front remained, and the NZ gunners supporting the infantry apparently "earned a reputation as an extremely proficient element of the Divisional Artillery," so I gave Cody his artillery beret badge, as a treat.

A.5 I was pleased to learn that the term "kiwi" as a nickname for people from New Zealand rather than as a reference to the country actually started in the first world war, particularly for soldiers of New Zealand regiments. Following the second world war, "kiwi" became attributed to all New Zealanders, so its usage here by Ahsoka is historically correct.

First, the man walking onto the field in Rex’s jersey is not Rex. Second, he looks enough like the jersey’s actual owner that they must be related. And third, he’s trying so hard to not draw attention to himself that he clearly thinks there’s a chance he might get away with it.

Author’s Note: Here it is, my @codywanremixchallenge fic for @goddammitjim ! So excited to have been able to remix the fic that really kicked off my and Lore’s friendship ahaha 💖 I watched so many baseball videos to be able to write this—I hope you enjoy it!

2022 News

Hello everyone!!! 

I’m so sorry for lack of updates/info/whatnot! I have no excuse. I’m just sorry. 

Let’s get on to the important things about this year and the event!

First, I do have mods now!!! They will be introducing themselves soon. They wish to remain anonymous, but they do want to say hello, so that’s awesome! I hope everyone is nice to them because they’re going to be a very big help to me and all of you. I’m very excited to have them on board!!!

Second, there are a lot of you! Hello! I’m very excited to have all of you here! I love doing this event and I hope you all love participating in it!

Third, there are a few events going on this year that you should check out if you haven’t already!  There’s the Codywan Sugar and Spice Event that is very very spicy! So, be aware of that. Then we have the Codywan Big Bang reveals coming up mid-February. After that is Codywan Reverse Big Bang and applications aren’t open until Feb 6, so keep that in mind if you want to participate in that! And finally, there’s the Remix Challenge with sign-ups happening in June! Remember you can always go check out @swfandomevents for more events going on during the year!

Fourth, what does this mean for codywan week? Good question. We will have to move the event this year. It will have to be much later in the year. Much...much later. Like. November. So. Yeah. Prompts will of course go out months before that so you have enough time to create! We’re moving it because of the other events this year because I don’t want anyone to feel burnt out or just done in general. We’ll see how it goes this year. If it doesn’t go so well, we’ll have to see what that means about next year. 

Again, I love doing this event. I love all of you! I love my mods! I’m very excited to see how everything will go this year! It’s going to be a long wait, but it’ll be great!

New Event Interest Check

So, it's been pointed out to me that before I put any more work into This Potential Event, I should probably do an interest check to see if it appeals!

Which brings us to...this post!

The Great Interest Check for a Codywan Remix Challenge

Remix challenges involve taking another PARTICIPATING story and rewriting it (just like a singer would remix a song)! You can remix it to fit your style or include elements that you find interesting. Basically, you take a story’s plot, keep it intact, but move around elements like the theme, duration, or point of view.

Remixes were pretty big back in the day. This one would be based heavily on The Stargate Remix Challenge, which drew information from older remix challenges.

What Pairing Though?

The event would be just for Codywan because I am only one person and the sw fandom is too large for me to attempt more than one pairing.

When Would This Happen?

I'd likely be running it through July-Sept, since that time period seems pretty clear of events per the wonderful fandom events blog (which I'm not going to tag yet, because I don't want to bother them if I don't do this).

How Much Would I Have to Write?

Each fic for the challenge would only need to be a minimum of 1k, so this does NOT require a significant amount of writing, though all participants would be welcome to write much more!

What Can I Do Right Now?

Codywan Remix Challenge: POSTING INFORMATION

Hi, Remixers!

We’re getting close to posting day and you know what that means: time to go over the steps to posting your remix! 

When to Post: 

Posting occurs on Monday, Sept. 5th. Everyone posts on the fifth!

Where to Post: 

You can post pretty much anywhere you want, as long as your remixee (and the mods) can see the fic. However! There’s an ao3 collection set up for the event: CodywanRemixChallenge. You’re welcome to post to the collection, which will open on September 5th (most likely, it'll open late Sept 4th to make sure everyone can post when they want). 

You can also post here on tumblr! If you do, please tag and notify the event, so we can be sure that you completed your remix. 

How to Post: 

When posting on Tumblr, please include:

A rating

Any major archive warnings 

The name of your remixee

A link to the fic you’re remixing

The tag for the event (codywan remix challenge 2022)

A shout-out to the event @codywanremixchallenge (so mods and your remixee can find your remix) 

You can include any other information you find pertinent, as well. PLEASE @ both your remixee and the event. We don't want to miss your story!

Additionally, if you post on AO3 (and we hope you do) please:

Happy Saturday, everyone!

We're about halfway through the writing period for the event, so we thought we'd drop a few reminders about dates (with another reminder about posting as we get closer).

Everyone posts their fic on September 5th. You can post to the ao3 collection (we'll be making a post on this at the beginning of September) or on tumblr or anywhere else you choose, as long as your recipient can view and read the fic.

We also know life happens. If you need to drop from the event, you have until August 15th (Monday) to let us know so we can assign a pinch hitter.

Thank you all for your amazing fics!

We got most of them posted on-time, which we really appreciate! We did have a few last minute drops. If you haven't received your fic yet, mods have already assigned a pinch hitter to make sure that you get one for the event and it should be revealed soon!

We'll be making a final post with everyone's fics included once all of them (including pinch-hits) are finished and up, so we can all celebrate together.
