Gonna be honest i always ignored himura's nyo!England - mines built like a boxer (think nicola adams) and has wild curly hair that she's only reeaaly learned to take care of in the 2010's. And of course she has the eyebrows. I mean if England gets to be a scrapy scruffy gremlin child, why shouldn't she?

Georgian Britain... good gosh. It's almost funny how the Victorians looked back at the previous century and recoiled in horror. The utter lack of morals my goodness!

I agree with curly hair. I think it would be lovely if all the Anglo-Celt kids should have curly hair and they all looked like they just got dragged through a hedge backwards. Which they probably have at one point or another after falling off a horse or something.

Personally I'm a big fan of making female England a bit of a operatic Victorian waif - albeit one with a bit more agency who doesn't go gently into that good night a la Mimì in La Bohème...

But the Pre-Raphaelite models like Annie Miller, Fanny Cornforth/Sarah Cox, Jane Morris, Mary Emma Jones and Alexa Wildling. They're England. At least to me. Not very soft, a little hollow, but beauties all of them.

Like Annie Miller was once described by Ford Madox Brown as “looking thinner and more deathlike and more beautiful and more ragged than ever” which is such a whiplash of a compliment/negging, but that's really what I like to picture a female England as.

Like in her good years (like I suppose anytime pre 1645 and post 1995 really) absolutely she's a tiny tank who budges for no-one but in - ironically - her most powerful years she is also at her most... emaciated.

Humans: A 17th-Century Aristocrat Had a Crafty Secret For Keeping Her Teeth

Scientists have discovered the long-buried secret of a 17th-century French aristocrat 400 years after her death: She was using gold wire to keep her teeth from falling out.

The body of Anne d'Alegre, who died in 1619, was discovered during an archaeological excavation at the Chateau de Laval in northwestern France in 1988.

Embalmed in a lead coffin, her skeleton – and teeth – were remarkably well preserved.

At the time, the archaeologists noticed that she had a dental prosthetic, but they did not have advanced scanning tools to find out more.

Thirty-five years later, a team of archaeologists and dentists have identified that d'Alegre suffered from periodontal disease that was loosening her teeth, according to a study published in the Journal of Archaeological Science: Reports this week.

A "Cone Beam" scan, which uses X-rays to build three-dimensional images, showed that gold wire had been used to hold together and tighten several of her teeth.

She also had an artificial tooth made of ivory from an elephant – not hippopotamus, which was popular at the time.

But this ornate dental work only "Made the Situation Worse", said Rozenn Colleter, an archaeologist at the French National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research and lead author of the study.

The gold wires would have needed repeated tightening over the years, further destabilizing the neighboring teeth, the researchers said.

D'Alegre likely went through the pain for more than just medical reasons. There was huge pressure on aristocratic women at a time when appearance was seen as related to value and rank in society.

Ambroise Pare, a contemporary of D'Alegre's who was the doctor for several French kings and designed similar dental prosthetics, claimed that "If a Patient is Toothless, His Speech Becomes Depraved", Colleter told AFP.

A nice smile was particularly important for d'Alegre, a "Controversial" twice-widowed socialite "Who Did Not Have a Good Reputation," Colleter added.

War and widowhood

D'Alegre lived through a troubled time in French history.

She was a Huguenot, Protestant who fought against Catholics in the French Wars of Religion in the late 1500s.

By the age of 21, she was already widowed once and had a young son, Guy XX de Laval.

When the country plunged into the Eighth War of Religion, D'Alegre and her son were forced to hide from Catholic forces while their property was seized by the king.

Her son then converted to Catholicism and went to fight in Hungary, dying in battle at the age of 20.

After being widowed a second time, D'Alegre died of an illness aged 54.

D'Alegre's teeth "Shows That She Went Through a Lot of Stress," Colleter said.

The researcher said she hopes that the research "Goes a Little Way Towards Rehabilitating Her.”

Severe periodontal diseases are estimated to affect nearly a fifth of the world's adults, according to the World Health Organization.

Clockwatchers (1997) Dir. Jill Sprecher

A comedic work-place ensemble film about four temps finding friendship and comradery within their bleak and surreal corporate limbo. The film is an understated commentary on office politics within late-stage capitalism. 

We have all four of these workers, that are essentially gig workers, with no benefits and agency at their place of work, and this level of precarity breeds a certain dissastifaction and paranoia within the office-- especially once an anonymous theif begins to steal little office trinkets: a beloved mug, a pen, the rubber band ball. Parker Posey’s character has these occasional rebellious outbursts regarding the injustices of the work atmostphere and her position as a temp laborer. Her reputation causes her to become the number 1 suspect and slowly the friend group begins to distingrate Toni Collete, who is the lead and the narrator, seems to fade into to the background in the film. Her acting is good but she is the neutral protagonist we effortless embody to watch the real star--Parker Posey.

What some of your best memories in the RPC?

Hmm... I’ll put this under a read more, since I’m in a self reflective and stream of consciousness mood. So this will be entirely unedited, and way too long.

I think some of the early happiness was the reception I got when I first started, about four years and ten months ago. People were excited to RP with me, glad I had decided to finally get involved.

At first I intended only for Cafe, and I put in a ton of work to get her set up. But by the end of my time writing KanColle, I had a lot of shipgirl OCs, and I mean a lot -- Trench Cafe, Spirit of Fire, Ohio, Atlantic Conveyor, Pilar, Houston, Langley, Gangut, Manila, New Zealand, Georgios Averof, Neptune, Leander, Achilles, Kiwi, Tui, Moa, Lanikai, Kirkwall, Jewel of Windsor, Emma Williams, Aotearoa, Helle.

A lot of the best early memories come from Cafe and her storyline. And I must admit, out of the above 24 characters? Cafe, Spirit of Fire, Manila, Kirkwall, Emma Williams, New Zealand, and Aotearoa got a lot of development. But satisfaction in how their characters developed? Only in Cafe, Emma Williams, and Aotearoa.

Cafe and Manila were the only characters who got endings. They were both happy endings. But only Cafe got one I am happy with. 

That being said... I really enjoyed writing HMS New Zealand. I think she was one of my first ‘complex’ personalities, with a storyline that I really tried to plan a bit. It didn’t work amazingly, there was a lot that got derailed, but I enjoyed her.

Aotearoa is a happy story of missed chances. Her personality wasn’t quite so complex, but I thought enough of her, I converted her into a different format and wrote a CYOA novella, rewriting an RP arc that didn’t go the way I wanted it.

There is one other... But I’ll bring that up later.

Moving on from KanColle...

I did a lot of faffing about with Strike Witches. I had four characters. Adeline Kain, Rebecca Moore, Tui Gray, and Helen Clapham. One of those names might be familiar. This... is where Helen Clapham originated. Strike Witches being Strike Witches, there was no active RPC for the setting, and I don’t blame anyone for that. I convinced three others to write it, among them Kako, and we did a brief thing together. 

I stuck with it longer than the rest; I still had my SW characters kicking about by the time I shut down the old blog, and elected not to bring them to this one.

Rebecca Moore was a favourite of mine in that time. It helped, however, that I wrote her with Kako. She had a more sophisticated story than the rest, and on top of that, she had a storyline. She showed up before, she helped Kako’s character, she helped another person’s character who affected Kako’s character -- and though her story ended before I really wanted it to, in a way she also got a happy ending. Still fighting the war, even after she was ordered to go home, helped by Keiko. Pulling her weight.

I’ll skip my attempts at Halo. They had some fun times, but not enough to really bring up. My attempt at Girls Frontline was stillborn. 

Strike Witches is where Helen Clapham got her start (originally with UMP40 as her FC). The Agency version of her started off as an AU, of Helen Clapham, the ex-witch bomber pilot. An AU where she never became a bomber pilot, and fell into another world. Three years later, Helen Clapham the bomber pilot no longer exists.

Agent Helen does, and she’s been a bundle of happy memories. I’m genuinely proud of how she’s developed over time. She’s the muse I’ve stuck with the most, the one who’s seen the most, who’s had the longest storyline. One that sees little sign of ending. Through thick and thin, she’s brought me to tears, she’s brought me to hugging my pillow and giggling to myself. Always with the satisfaction and cheer of writing a character I really, really enjoy. Those tears were not of frustration, and though they were shed in reaction to parts of her storyline that sadden me, they aren’t tears shed because I don’t like it. So I think she’s a big one there.

Victoria Collet deserves a spot here, but she should really be above with KanColle. She got her start back then, after all. She’s ‘Jewel of Windsor’ in the list. She is the only character from the KanColle blog, who survived the transition to other areas of writing. I think she was one of the characters I absolutely loved writing, even back then. Her origin story comes from H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds, which is a semi-annual obsession of mine. Though that origin no longer exists, her current form is quite lovely. I always have a goofy smile on my face when I think of her, and her travels with Maria and Kazuko. She’s just a good bisexual girl who’s massively confused by her friends, a lesbian who commonly crossdresses as a man, and a boy who lives as a girl. 

Fubuki has been a story of indulging myself in a guilty pleasure, and genuinely enjoying writing her own stories. A kitsune, a samurai kitsune, an Oda samurai kitsune, a shrine maiden samurai kitsune, it’s indulging in a lot of stuff I like but hadn’t wanted to write before her, due to some embarrassment over the subjects. But encouragement from friends, particularly Kako, saw Fubuki come to be -- and I’ve enjoyed much of her.

Tikva got off to a rocky start. I originally conceived of her as a way to keep writing Cafe, during a moment of weakness where I was lamenting how some things had gone. She was going to be a carbon copy, Cafe’s AI turned human. But the RP partner I was going to write that with stopped writing, and honestly, in Tikva’s case it was likely for the best. 

Tikva’s story is far different to what the original thing was going to be. Who Tikva is now, is very different from who Cafe was, and she’s far better off for it. I am extremely grateful to Kako for helping me with everything with Tikva.

Okoori was my first foray into Touhou RP, and Kako helped immensely in her creation as well. She’s a bit of another self-indulgence. A woman who lives to make people happy, someone who wears elegant cloting, a bit of exposed skin, a youkai concept (yuki-onna) I really like. Writing her helped me get confident enough to adopt Aya as a canon muse, and have Fubuki chase a demon into a magical land.

Grani. Grani Grani Grani. I will be the first to admit, I’ve latched on to her very, very hard. I’ve made tons of headcanons, spend tons of time thinking about her, discussing her, looking at art of her. Thinking of her makes me smile, and writing her doesn’t often cause me to pause and have to think. I can fall into her mindset rather easily. 

Some people say I’m a lot like Grani myself; I’m short, excitable and generally cheerful, I have a strong sense of justice and desire to help others. My only worry sometimes is that my own sense of self might bleed into Grani, but all of what we write has something of ourselves in them. I try not to worry too much. 

There’s far more I could say. 

I could go through each and every single one of my current muses, and I could likely find something good to say about them -- even Chloe, who I haven’t written in a long time. I am very, very happy with my characters. 

Roleplaying is my main hobby, and has been for more than two years now. It’s a passion that I don’t want to lose anytime soon. I put a lot of effort into it, because I love writing with everyone, and I love it when a thread goes well.

So I guess I can say that, many of my recent RPC memories have been happy memories.

It’s likely best if I end it there, rather than continuing. After all, this reply is up to 1,400+ words.

Well I hope you like Urara and shamelessly plugging music albums that you should buy, because this episode has both of those in droves! (it’s a good single though)

The Plot

Urara gets approached by Washio, who tells her a talent agency wants her to debut as a singer! The other girls are very excited by this news and start preparing banners, decor, and a whole cheer routine, while Mika tries to interview her. However, Urara isn’t certain she wants to do this, and she flees under all the pressure. Nozomi catches up with her on a bridge, where Urara says her goal is to spread her dreams to other people as an actress. Nozomi believes she can do this as a singer as well, that the two fields aren’t so different. Still, she apologizes for not listening to Urara earlier, and the other girls appear to apologize as well. This cheers Urara up, and that night she gets to work writing some lyrics.

A few days later, everyone is setting up at the mall stage where Urara is going to perform. Gamao has apparently gotten a job as a mall cop and grumbles that nobody goes to these events anyway. Then he notices Nozomi, Rin, Komachi, and Karen handing out fliers down below and recognizes them. (How he didn’t recognize Urara on all the advertisements is beyond me) Nozomi goes to Urara’s greenroom to check up on her, and Urara admits she’s incredibly nervous, but the others arrive to collectively encourage her. A guard comes and tells her it’s time to get ready, so she follows him through the backstage hallways, passing what she thinks is the dressing room, until they reach a storage area. The guard locks the door and turns around, revealing himself to be Gamao! He snatches the dress from her hands and stamps on it, threatening her to hand over the Dream Collet, but the other girls burst into the room just in time. Gamao taunts Urara for wanting more celebrity, but Nozomi declares that she wants to spread her dreams to the audience, and they’re all going to help her! They transform as Gamao turns the dress into a Kowaina. The monster dodges all their attacks, but Dream goes on the offensive against Gamao, while Mint blocks the Kowaina’s attacks and then expands her shield to pin it against the ceiling, allowing Lemonade to use Lemonade Flash and destroy the monster, while Gamao eats a Dream Attack before disappearing and vowing his revenge.

Unfortunately, the dress is ruined and unwearable now, but at that moment, Coco and Nuts arrive and present the girls with matching outfits to wear for the performance. They consist of red and orange plaid pleated miniskirts paired with color-coded letter jackets with butterfly symbols on the left breast. Urara tells the crowd that her goal is to share her dream with all of them, and performs her single, “Tobikiri! Yuuki no Doa” or “Extraordinary! The Door of Courage” with the other four serving as her backup dancers and possibly backup vocals. It’s a hit and we close on her telling the crowd that she will do her best from now on!

The Analysis

Although I joked in the intro that this was just a vehicle for a character single, that would be an unfair assessment. Sure, it’s a merch-driven show, but this is still a very sincere episode with important lessons. Urara’s uncertainty about the direction her career is going is very tangible. Despite often seeming like the team’s oddball, she betrays her maturity here. She knows that this is a turning point in her life, a huge opportunity, but it may take her down a different path than she wants to follow. It’s a major decision and she’s giving it the weight it deserves, but she doesn’t have the courage to speak up yet and say she isn’t certain about it, resulting Nozomi and the other girls putting the cart well before the horse. Even if she does eventually decide it’s an avenue worth pursuing, that decision only came after her friends stopped trying to force her into it and gave her the room to make the choice herself, albeit with some light encouragement. Nozomi’s life advice is good, and once she fully understands the situation, she is supportive but still gives Urara space. It’s a great  dichotomy.

Speaking of support, the interplay between these two during the battle is great. Dream wants to protect Lemonade in particular because it’s her special day, and she won’t stand for Gamao trying to ruin it. She goes HARD on Gamao and I adore it. Even when it looks like Gamao is going to sneak an attack into an opening, she turns it around and hits him instead.

Lemonade is largely on defense for this fight, protecting Coco and Nuts, but she does get to land the finishing blow on the Kowaina, which is great. Mint’s idea of pinning it in a corner is good, too. Lately there have been a lot of Kowaina that are very mobile, and seeing the team come up with varying methods to stall their motion is fun. I’m glad they’re keeping the fights diverse instead of just making the girls beat up on the monster for 4 minutes before performing a special attack. And the special attacks are cool too because sometimes they’re finishers, sometimes they’re just magic spells that do damage or restrain the enemy or adjust the environment. 

On a lighter note, the comedy in this episode is ON. POINT. Nozomi and Rin’s debate over whether their banner should be even bigger than it already is, a discourse with Karen to let them use her house, her surprise agreement to this on the condition that she chooses the design (you were sure she would be the sensible one and say “don’t do this” but no, Karen isn’t actually the sensible one on the team, that’s Komachi.) Komachi is caught up in “Well Karen is into it so maybe this isn’t so bad, maybe this is just what people do.” And Mika, as usual, has little regard for the feelings of her subjects. I do want to reiterate something I said in a prior review: she wants friends, and these five are the closest thing she has. I think, much like Karen, she can let her guard down a little around Nozomi and co., but letting her guard down just results in more crazy antics. She’s got some growing to do yet. I hope I get to see it. But she does choreograph this dance for them.

Wakana watches a shark movie! Wakana’s recommended shark movie is “The Shallows”! She started the screening well prepared...with candy and a cushion!? A hot-dog in my right hand, juice in my left hand, I am ready to go! We start watching the movie together with staff members in the audio room at the agency. At the beginning Wakana is super composed. “The popcorn is so yummy!” When the shark appears for the first time Wakana’s face becomes serious...”Oh no...!” There are lots of scary scenes that make you cover your eyes out of fear. So scary! After the film is over we have to reward ourselves with some more snacks!

The shark’s leading role in the movie as well as the portrayal of its movements are amazing! Everyone, please be sure to watch this film!!

This time it was all about, “let’s watch a shark movie!” We watched “The Shallows” just now, what made you choose this particular film? Truth is, it’s because I love the lead character played by Blake Lively! She is the actress from “Gossip Girl”. Blake’s body is simply amazing...she is so cute!!

The shark was scary! The shark in the movie is portrayed in a very negative light. Not very likable at all...This is actually the 4th time I am watching the film.When I watched it today I made some new observations. “Ah, I wonder if it attacked the people due to that reason...” The shark is really not such a bad guy!

Are there real sharks appearing in “The Shallows”? The shark in this film is CGI but the creators were inspired by the movements of real sharks so even though the shark is fake, it looks very real. But I don’t wanna talk too much about the content since I want all of you to watch the movie and really, Blake is so cool in it! The way the shark is moving is also amazing! I really want you to see it!

Aside from this you also introduced us to a few other shark movies. Why did you recommend “Deep Blue Sea”? All the sharks in this movie are CGI, they REALLY go on a massive rampage! Those sharks made by humans are super strong! They are really scary *laughs*

What about “Into the Blue”? This film stars the beautiful Jessica Alba! The sea also looks amazing. The sharks that appear in the movie are all real. They have a gorgeous form! Sharks are only attacking humans due to the evil actions of people, that’s very refreshing to watch.

“Jurassic World” is a dinosaur movie, right? Does a shark appear in it? There’s a huge mosasaurus that eats a great white shark. It’s a short moment. *laughs* But sill, I recommend it!

A tiny moment indeed *laughs* Your last recommendation is “Open Water”... Ah yes...The real sharks appearing in this film are amazing! I think I got traumatised! I probably can’t watch it again.

So people who want to watch it should definitely brace themselves...all right, a general comment on shark movies, please. I actually don’t like scary movies. I don’t watch any horror at all. I only watch these movies because of the sharks! I guess that’s what you call dedication. I wanna learn a lot about sharks! However, I do not really like movies where sharks attack humans for no apparent reason. The story is very important! For me sharks are like having a favourite actor, you would watch anything with your favourite actor whether it is a funny or a scary film. I feel the same way about sharks.
