October 20 - October 21: Monster Madness at the Historic Artcraft Theatre - "...And Sewing Is Half The Battle!" is one of the sponsors of this classic monster movie fest, and will be in attendance all weekend.

October 21 - October 22: Doctoberfest - Alena will be appearing and doing a Cosplay Q&A session on Saturday morning at this Doctor Who-themed event.

October 25 @ 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM: Special Effects Makeup & Makeup for Costuming Workshop - This workshop will cover character makeup basics and SFX makeup application for costuming. Participants will receive makeup application tools and have the opportunity to experiment with various makeup products and build small prostheses such as scars.

November 11: MatchBOX Maker Showcase - This open house at MatchBOX Makerspace will allow attendees to see work from a variety of makers and explore many creative techniques. "...And Sewing Is Half The Battle!" will be there to talk about sewing and costuming.

November 15 @ 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM: Thermoplastics Workshop - This workshop will teach the basics of working with thermoplastics for prop and armormaking. Participants will see and handle sample products made from various thermoplastics, learn about crafting techniques, and make a piece of armor to take home.

November 17 - November 19: ColossalCon North - Alena will be presenting the following panels: Featherweight Cosplay: Thermoplastics & More; Molds, Resins, and Silicones, Oh My!; Cosplay Pics 101: Posing for Cosplay Photos; Welcome to the Jianghu: A Beginner's Guide to Chinese Fantasy Drama

November 24 - November 26: Chicago TARDIS - Alena and Mark will be staffing this Doctor Who-focused convention and presenting programming as part of the cosplay track. Panel topics TBA.

December 15 - December 17: CasaCon (online via Discord) - Laura and Alena will be presenting the following panels: Saiyuuki: History of Journey to the West; Cosplay On Stage: Presentation & Performance for Cosplayers.

Shot in the dark here, but who will be going to either Colossalcon? I really want to get the OT6 together for waterpark cosplay shenanigans? We have a Hiccup and Astrid, we just need the twins, Fishlegs, and Snotlout.  And honestly I think I’d be fine with characters outside of the OT6 as well, but I think it would be adorable to have the gang.

And like, I could try to help people put their cosplays together too if needed?

⛩🔆YOU SHOULD BE WATCHING SAIYUKI🔆⛩

For many of you who have been following me for years, you know I've been into Saiyuki for awhile. My goal is bring my favorite series to light that way more people can watch it. Saiyuki is so underrated, it's sad. This series has become my comfort anime. Everytime I'm in a funk, I just watch the funniest episode or 2 to cheer me up. I always seem to be going back to this series every year.

Cho Hakkai is one of my favorite Saiyuki characters. I love everything about him. I've been meaning to cosplay bloody Cho Gonou for awhile. I quickly made some FAKE BLOOD that same day since hardly any of the places I get my fake blood at sells them. His hair is a tad longer before he joined up with Sanzo's group. This did happen 3 years before their journey westward.

If you are following my TikTok account, be prepared for some bloody Cho Gonou videos that's not for the faint of heart.

After all, he was a murderer who slaughtered 1K demons. It's also specified that he killed many humans in his hometown as well. If you know, you know.🙃

I also decided to bring out Tenpou(Hakkai's Godlike form) for the sake of TikTok content. He was fun for a couple of videos for transitioning from a God to his reincarnated form.

Deciding on this version of mercy was fairly simple. I had bought the tickets for ColossalCon East and figured I should do a swimsuit version since it'll be at a waterpark and I saw all the fantastic cosplays at Colossal West.

So since I am going to be doing Mercy for Katsucon this year I figured, I have the wig let's start looking at fanart! I found this gorgeous fanart photo of her in a lifeguard uniform and surrounded in a circle of white and red and decided this is what I'm going to do wings and all.

Now making the costume was awesomely difficult because I l've never really worked with EVA foam before or making anything to this scale in size! To have support inside of the wings I used PVC plumbing pipes and contact cemented my cutout foam pieces. Then for the harness my Dad and I worked on that one together since he knows more about wood working and drilling and all that jazz!

The reaction at the convention was amazing!! I've never really had much attention at con before for just my costume alone only in group before so it was something I wasn't super used to! But overall through this costume I met a bunch of great photographers, great fellow cosplayers, and just great people in general!!

The only thing I had to complain about while wearing this costume that was actually a kind of funny story was people actually thought I was a lifeguard!! Wings and all!! They would ask me where the towels were and different rules of the waterpark and I'd just stare at them and say, "I don't work here, sorry."

Colossalcon 2017 Highlights

Wednesday:

-we went a day early with half our group, so check-in and unpacking was like a dream. -Our room was in the BEST hallway! Steps away from the convention, arcade, and waterpark!!! -The waterpark was fun! I finally explored the outdoor waterpark with the enticement of new slides! Went on all, body slides weren’t as much fun cuz water+nose= wtf. However, they had a drop slide, and since I’ve never been on one, I had to. Only scary for the seconds before the drop and as you drop. -Got my group’s badges extremely quickly, came just before a rush. -Drunken Shenanigans With Friends™

Thursday:

-Bit of relaxing and watching Familiar of Zero before the con started. -went to the arcade with a friend and got two dragons! Green for me, blue for him! Named mine Ruko. -Found my little blue bunny for only $5 at the craft fair! -Watched the Worldbuilding panel create a penal colony on an asteroid that’s out of contact with the rest of the universe. -Quiplash -Horror Gaming From West to East. During Yomawari... “WHAT DID I JUST SAY!?”

Friday:

-PHOTOSHOOTS GALORE! Kingdom Hearts, Rick and Morty, Steven Universe, Tales of, Undertale, and Persona! -Superheroes of Anime was VERY informative, might finally get into My Hero Academia. -Seeing the really tall Rose Quartz come last second at the Steven Universe photoshoot. -Shopping spree in the Dealer’s Room and watching two guy friends pick out sharp things and help me find my sharp things then help me figure out how to strap sharp things onto body. Don’t worry, it was just in the hotel room. -HOLY SHIT SO MANY PEOPLE AT THE PERSONA PHOTOSHOOT! SO MANY JOKERS! THERE WAS EVEN AN AKECHI WITH PANCAKES! -Walking around as Fidget with my Dust and having a LOT more people notice us than last year. “So your last name is spinner?” -More Drunken Shenanigans With Friends™

Saturday:

-History of Anime Cons, including the older guy who confirmed/expanded on a bunch of the stuff the panelist was telling us. -How to Make a Video Game in One Weekend. Best was totally Grandpa’s Graph. -RWBY panel with guests. Interesting to know that Vic sent in his voicework of the show. And Vic was approached by a Qrow cosplayer before he knew what Qrow looked like. -Homestuck Photoshoot was SO lucky to have both a Calliope AND a Caliborn! -I was the last one to play video games with Jason Leibrecht and of course, it was a version of Rainbow Road. N64 version. Someone complimented me as I went to walk out. - The Persona Panel, despite some spoilers for earlier games. - Peaked into the Here’s Johnny... Young Bosch panel. “What’s the most awkward line you had to say?” “My balls unit is broken!” “They're sensitive!” -Made the awesome discovery in the Cardcaptor Sakura panel that Nicole Oliver, best known for Princess Celestia, voiced Meiling in the original dub of Cardcaptor Sakura (Cardcaptors)!!!!! -All the sarcasm in the Gamer Gurlz Like Pink and Stuff panel. -Homestuck: Then and Now. So much forgotten of the early fandom because of the loss of the MSPA Forums. -More walking around as Dust and Fidget. -A friend that was technically not rooming with us was hanging in our room. He went out the door to go do/get something then ran back in the room shouting “SLYTHERIN!” A cosplayer peaked through the door, holding it open, and pointed to his badge and said he was a Ravenclaw. He then asked what house my friend was from, and he said Gryfindor. The Ravenclaw smirked and said no wonder he couldn’t get it right and how his house looks down on others but are cowards themselves then left. Sunday:

-Most of the stuff had been packed up into cars the night before, so it was easy, but still took til 11. Scared the shit out of half the room cuz I knocked on the door and basically went “WAKE UP BITCHES!” -Otaku Flea Market -One week in Japan panel, so informative. -Traditional Sonic Run as a relaxing finish.

idk! california and etc cons are a bit out of my reach atm, i would love to but im not sure im of the caliber art skill wise to make that jump just yet! maybe in a few years ill work up the courage to apply to some of the big cons out by you! i normally do colossalcon, ohayocon, otakon, katsucon, and this year i might try for youmacon!

Flying back home from my first #ColossalCon. I had a great time with great friends, old and new --including a baby sloth. Hey just wanted everyone to know I’m not dead, I’ve been focusing more on schoolwork and I just got back from Colossalcon! Work on the game is picking up again and to show it, a map! If you’ve played the demo you’ll know that soldiers blocked off the road going north and you could only venture west over to Twin Pines. This is the road beyond that blockade! While unaccessible in the demo, this road will be the first area added with the early access version (coming eventually)! Also look forward soon to an official game trailer!
