Chapter 3

Meeting

     "Hello?" Damian called as he entered the mansion. It was oddly quiet, Damian felt his heart tug a little. This was the first time since Tim's death he had stepped foot in the mansion. He remembered watching Homeward bound on the sofa with Tim a million times. He remembered them fighting on the floor over almost everything. Turning he saw Bruce and a small kid.

     "I'd like you to meet Jason Todd," Bruce said gesturing to the small boy "I just adopted him"

     "Hello," Damian greeted in his usual cold-sounding voice.

     "Hey I guess," Jason said trying to sound cool. Jason had heard about how Damian once knocked out seventeen guys for just looking at him the wrong way, this made him Jason's hero. This also made Bruce start taking blood pressure pills.

     "Father may I speak to you" Damian's eyes darted towards the study. Bruce nodded before turning to Jason.

     "Go watch TV" Jason scurried off to find the remote. Bruce led Damian to the study so they would not be heard.

     "Really father?" Damian glared "You can't just replace Tim, especially with some street rat!"

     "I'm not trying to replace him" Bruce insisted. Suddenly they heard the door creek. Damian turned around to see Jason standing at the door.

     "I don't need some snobby-nosed rich kid calling me a street rat!" Jason spat "Not when you're just a sheltered brat who had everything handed to him!"

     "Jason..." Jason darted down the hallway as fast as his legs could take him. Bruce turned to his eldest son "I think it would be best if you leave"

     "Whatever" Damian sighed before walking out.

Timeskip

     "Finally" Damian let out a sigh of relief. Today's meeting had been extremely boring and to top it Conner broke the tv after his show wouldn't come in.

     "Hey, can I catch a ride?" Wally yelled right before Damian could even pull out of his parking spot.

     "What for, you have super speed?" Damian raised an eyebrow.

     "Yeah and a super metabolism" Wally wined "Please I haven't eaten anything all day, I'm about to pass out" Damian sighed opening the passenger door.

     "Snacks are in-" Before he could finish his sentence Wally had cleaned out all the snacks in the glove department.

     "Thanks," Wally said stuffing a handful of chips in his mouth. After finishing off the chips Wally grabbed a candy bar.

     "You do realize that candy bar is old right?" Wally nodded taking a bite "I swear West you are a human garbage disposal"

     "I can't help it" Wally smiled finishing off an apple "What was Bats talking about after the meeting?"

     "Father wants me to come over and bond with the kid" Damian said slowing down at the stop sign.

     "Doesn't he know grizzly bears and children don't mix" Wally joked.

     "Shut up" Damian growled. Realizing he was getting frustrated, Damian stopped and took a deep breath.

     "Wow, you are even more uptight than normal" Wally tilted his head "What's going on?"

     "Let's just say the first time we met didn't go very well" Damian sighed pulling into the parking lot.

     "You just don't make good first impressions do you?" Wally laughed "Remember when we first met, you stabbed me in the leg"

     "I told you to go away" he pointed out.

     "How about when you met Star?" Wally smirked "You were so nervous you introduced yourself as Ribbon then you accidentally said marry me instead of carry these"

     "Keep it up I have a sword in the trunk" Damian joked.

       "Okay I'm done" Wally laughed "but you know; me and you are best friends now and you're dating Star, give the kid some time and I'm sure he'll come to like you too"

     "Thanks," Damian said getting out of the car "I assume I'm paying?"

     "Of course," Wally said darting into the restaurant.

Wally deserves his open cowl suit

i get why they put him back in the “usual” flash design now that he’s the titular flash again, because it’s the most recognizable, but still. i think he should get to show off the ginger hair.

pre-new 52, wally only really wore the “main” flash suit out of respect for barry’s legacy.

but barry is alive again, and wally has a tendency to go for the open cowl look whenever he can. he went for an open cowl look when he first showed up in rebirth, and some alternate-reality wally wests have an open cowl as flash. even when he made his first speed force suit after his legs got broken and he needed it to run, he gave himself an open cowl look

and barry is still alive, so why does he really need to keep it? it’s not like the main flashes all need to have basically the same suit, since jay’s and barry’s suits are so drastically different.

i don’t see why wally can’t indulge in having an open cowl with barry alive, and he clearly enjoys having it. i am happy that he has the red and gold color scheme back, but i feel like giving him the open cowl would be nice. we’d get the three flashes with more varied designs, it’s in character for wally, and we wouldn’t have to worry about “is this barry? is it wally? why’d they give barry wally’s belt? why’d they make barry ginger? why does wally have barry’s suit? did the artist forget which flash they were drawing?” because i’ve already had a ton of those moments since wally became the flash again

i also just blatantly love his rebirth suit.

Psychology of Superheroes

Good evening Alex , I forgor and now i'm pressed for time and have no idea what to write :(. Luckily, I've been reading the New 52 Batgirl series so that gave me this idea. So, people have this weird thing where they think comics are for kids. Sure, they may have started off as a kids' thing, but the comics nowadays are much, much more mature, and I'm a DC fan, who're called the darker franchise, which I get, but more so because of the Zack Snyder movies (which I love, but WHY THE HELL IS MAN OF STEEL SO DARK??? SUPERMAN IS THE BEACON OF HOPE AND THE CHEERY GUY ON THE JUSTICE LEAGUE although Henry Cavill slays the role, okay, back to the topic) and TDK trilogy, and DC has, like, so many R-rated movies and series, but DC does have it's comedy, like Shazam!, The Suicide Squad, Harley Quinn and such, anyways, on to the psychology of the comic book characters.

Batgirl

As my favourite character, I'm gonna be talking about her first. Barbara Gordon had a relatively mild childhood, uncharacteristic of a Bat, but, she did have a psychopathic brother and her mother left early on because of him. Being the daughter of the commissioner has it's drawbacks as showcased in the highly controversial graphic novel Batman: The Killing Joke. One of the issues people have with the comic is the crippling (and much more I really don't want to talk about) of Babs by the Joker just to further Batman's character. She did not let it get the best of here though, and took the role of Oracle, an information broker to the Batfam and the Justice League. She also mentored Cassandra Cain, the new Batgirl, which I also loved, relationships in comics just hit different for me.

Come New 52, DC's reboot of the whole franchise in 2011, controversially, gave Barb the use of her legs back with a neural implant. She was an icon for the differently-abled community, and fans were understandably upset at DC for backpedaling on it. However I think Gail Simone handled it pretty well as she did not just erase her history, she's shown with survivor's guilt for being able to walk again, and doubting herself as Batgirl again, but, that's just my two cents, I'm not the best person to comment on it. The comic was relaunched in 2014 however, which I'm not a big fan of, so far, I've only read 4 issues though, but I don't know, it just didn't feel like a Barbara Gordon storyline to me, here's to hoping it gets better. Also, in the Rebirth relaunch, she's Batgirl for a while, before going back to the role of Oracle and mentor to the new Batgirls, Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain (yeah, after New 52, Cassie was never Batgirl, so she's the new Batgirl, again. If you think this is confusing, oh boy, DC's timeline is just plain broken). Funny story, fans of Steph sent waffles to DC HQ to get them to bring her back.

The rest of the Batfam

Everyone and their grandparents know Bruce Wayne's backstory, so I won't be getting into that. Dick Grayson, I've talked about before, but a few events I haven't talked about: Batman's (apparent) death in Final Crisis and the dilemma of the Batman legacy, Damian Wayne's death, who he saw as a brother, Jason Todd's death, also brotherly, Barbara's crippling, his on-again-off-again girlfriend and 2nd best couple in all of comics, his identity being revealed to the world in the Forever Evil storyline which I absolutely loved, one of the first comics I ever read and never understood anything then revisited recently and makes a ton more sense now. Oops, sorry, I'm bad at staying on topic. After Forever Evil he was forced to pretend to be dead and go undercover in Spyral, a, you guessed it, spy agency. Not really undercover, since everyone knew who he was, but he was there to report back to Batman. Also, don't ask me how no one connected the dots and wondered who Batman could be when the identity of Nightwing, frequent collaborator of Batman, and whose adoption lined up with his appearance as Robin, was revealed.

Jason Todd was a juvenile delinquent who was unfortunate enough to stumble upon Batman when he was depressed after Dick left. He also uh, died and was brought back to life, and resented Batman for not killing Joker and avenge him.

Tim Drake's parents were deadbeat and his father and girlfriend ended up dying. I'm really sorry, I've read like 3 comics featuring him lmao, I know very little about him. Even DC seems to forget him sometimes, and his secret identity is a mess. He was Robin, then he became Red Robin when Batman died and Damian became Robin, and, I'm not kidding, Drake. Yep, master detective, shown to be smarter than Batman, chose the secret identity of Drake. Sure, that's a bird name, BUT THAT'S ALSO YOUR LAST NAME YOU DOLT!

Damian Wayne was raised by an assassin to be an assassin and his dad dies very soon after he met him, and he also dies. Strong correlation between Robins and death.

Stephanie Brown's father is Cluemaster, a C-list supervillain who spent most of his life in jail, so, deadbeat and villainous dad.

Cassandra Cain's father was David Cain, master assassin, who raised her to be an assassin, poor girl can't even talk because her speech center is a body language center so she can react to moves before it's made.

Kate Kane was in the army, kicked out for being lesbian, idk anything else about her except she has a complicated relationship with Batman.

The Flash

Barry Allen's mother was murdered by Reverse Flash who swore to ruin Barry's life for being The Flash, and his father was sent to jail for her murder because the police can't arrest a time traveling speedster from the future. Barry grew up to become a CSI to absolve his father when one day he was struck by lightning and doused in chemicals which made him lightning fast. Eobard Thawne was obsessed with The Flash and tried to live up to his legacy when he got superspeed but failed and decided to ruin his life instead. So Eobard caused Barry to become The Flash which caused Eobard to become the Reverse Flash and so on.

Wally West is my favourite flash WHO DC HATES FOR SOME REASON. Wally had abusive parents, got his speed when visiting Barry's lab in the same exact way. After Barry's death in Crisis on Infinite Earths, he had to take up the mantle and deal with his grief and settling into his role. Okay, now for the sad part. In 2011, DC rebooted everything ,as stated before. Wally was one of the casualties of the reboot. He was replaced with another character, whose name was, Wallace/Wally West. Not joking. He's pretty much exactly the same person, but biracial and less fun, for diversity reasons I guess??? I'm all for diversity but come on, don't do it by erasing a much beloved character. He's brought back 5 years later in the Rebirth relaunch, and Wallace's story is retconned. Wally is the only one who returned and his wife and twins are erased, but he still remembers them, and his wife exists, but their history never happened, so Wally has to deal with the loss of his wife and kids. His friends in the Titans also forgot that he existed, but remember him after uh, shock therapy. And then, Heroes In Crises happened. God, how I hate this story. This is the only story I've ever read concurrently and the wait was painful and each issue got more and more controversial. I won't go much into it, but in brief, Wally accidentally kills a bunch of heroes from overload of emotions from the trauma he experienced and he tries to cover it up. First of all, Wally is the last person who'd do something like this, given all that he's experienced, and second goddammit I hate how the story treats him. He's sent off to Iron Heights Penitentiary at the end of the story. He does get his wife and kids back later on, but this is where I'm at now. I have to read the New 52 batfam because Dick dies and I need to know his whole story and also Barbara's story, and then I need to catch up on Rebirth Batfam and Rebirth Flash, I read most of Rebirth Flash, but I'll need to re-read. Artemis watched as her friends embraced her speedster. Finally after 5 months of sadness, Nightwing had finally brought the love of her life out of the speed force. It seemed like an eternity since she'd last seen her beloved Baywatch. She stood off to the side when everyone started crowding around them, all she could hear were 'Welcome back's' or 'Don't you ever do that again'.

"So... you happy?" Nightwing asked, startling the blonde out of her daydream.

"Yeah, why?" she asked, turning to face him.

"Just seems like you've been doing a lot of staring instead of hugging... Or kissing." He pointed out, adding the last part quietly. Artemis socked him the shoulder, having heard the last part.

"I guess I'm still in shock about the whole thing. I mean not even two days ago I was crying over a pint of ice cream about the fact that Wally was dead and now here he is, but is he back for good? Or is this just temporary? What if he disappears again? What if we lose him forever this time? What if..." Artemis stressed.

"What if you stop worrying about the future because right now, I'm right here babe. And I promise I'm never leaving you again." Wally said, walking up from behind her.

"Promise?" she whispered.

"Speedster's honor." Wally said, placing his right hand over his heart. Artemis chuckled, before lightly slapping him in the chest.

"Dork." she mumbled. "You know, you really scared me..." she said, seriously. "I thought I'd never see you again. Hell, I was so close to falling into depression." Artemis confessed, looking anywhere but Wally.

"Hey," Wally said. "Look at me... please?" he begged, she continued to avert her eyes before Wally tilted her chin up so she was looking into his emerald eyes. "I'm here now... and I promise, I'm never leaving you ever again." he reassured.

"But what if you do? I don't think I would be able to handle losing you twice." her voice quivered. She hated being so vulnerable and yet the past few months have left her more vulnerable than she has been in years. Wally pulled her into a hug, she wrapped her arms around his waist and buried her head into his chest, breathing in his smell of peppermint and a hint of pine. After so many years she found the smell comforting, she always found it strange because he would run through hell and back and still smell fresh and comforting. Wally pulled her closer, and she felt his warmth engulf her. She felt tears prick her eyes as the speedster comforted her.

"Shhhh, babe. I'm not leaving you again. Believe me, I love you so much, Beautiful." he whispered in a soothing tone. He swayed them, side to side.

"What if-" the blonde started.

"Babe, no more what if's" Wally said, holding her at arm's length. "I spoke with Uncle Barry and he said that we're gonna start training to make sure I can control my speed. It's going to be like when I first became Kid Flash but this time I just gotta control myself from running into the speed force."

"I love you... so so much." Artemis said, wrapping her arms around his neck and buried her face into his neck as a tear fell.

"I love you too."

"So..." Zatanna said, as the original members of the team watched Artemis and Wally's reunion.

"So...?" Dick repeated, curious on what the magician had to say.

"You sooooo owe me $5000!" She cheered, throwing her arms over head.

"What?! No way! I totally won that bet!" Dick protested.

"Excuse me?! I totally won! Did you see that gigantic tear?"

"Well, I didn't hear her sniffle so IT DOESN'T COUNT!" Dick countered.

"You don't need to sniffle to prove your crying! As long as there's tears then ARTEMIS WAS CRYING!"

"M'gann!" Both cried out at the same.

"Oh no! Don't you dare bring me into your squabble." M'gann interrupted before they could ask. "But Zatanna's right, as long as there was a tear then she cried." the martian added quietly.

"Ha!" Zatanna cheered.

"Nuh uh! Conner! Tell her!" Dick begged. The kryptonian looked at the acrobat for a second before answering.

"Dick..." Conner sighed. "Zatanna and M'gann are right... as long as Artemis shed a tear, then she technically cried." Dick looked at Kaldur and Rocket but judging by their faces, Conner was right.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Dick screamed, falling onto his knees.

"YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!" Zatanna countered.

"Please! Please don't make me gimme $5000!" Dick begged, grabbing onto her legs.

"Nuh uh! A bet's a bet, Boy Wonder. No backing out now, not when I've won!" she said, as she shook him off.

"What'd you bet on?" M'gann asked, as Dick pulled out a huge wad of cash. But Zatanna didn't answer as she began counting her money.

"Well, while Missy Rich counts her new wad of cash, I'll tell you." Dick mumbled bitterly. "When I first found out that I could bring Wally out of the Speedforce, I went to Zatanna first. Because of her magic... Anyways, when we were positive that we could bring Wally back, Zee and I made a bet. We bet that when Wally came back, if Artemis cried then I had to give her $5000. But if she lost then she would have to go on the worst date ever with me. BOOM... but not only did I lose five thousand dollars, I think I also lost my dignity."

"Oh, you totally did. Who's got $5000? I've got $5000!" Zatanna gloated.

"Please give me back my money, Zee! Pleaseeeeeeeeeee?" he said, giving her the puppy dog eyes.

"Ah ah ah," Zatanna said, wagging a finger at him. "Your puppy dog eyes don't work on me anymore!" Dick sighed, knowing there was nothing he could do to persuade the magician to change her mind. "But, I'd be willing to give you half of the $5000" the raven haired girl said.

"REALLY?!" Dick perked up, excitedly.

"Only if you can get Artemis to kiss you."

"B-but that's impossible! You know that!"

"Oh, I know." Zatanna smiled smugly. "So... deal or no deal?" she asked, as Wally and Artemis started walking towards the group.

"Uh..." he hesitated.

"Come on... I'm giving you a chance to win $2500 over here!" she taunted, rubbing the money all over his face.

"Fine, deal." They shook each other's hands just as Wally and Artemis walked into earshot. "No Zatanna, your theory is wrong. The Greeks did not climb out of the Trojan Horse's butt." Everyone looked at Dick like he had grown two heads, just as Artemis and Wally reached the group.

"Hey guys! What were you just talking about?" Artemis asked.

"Zatanna thinks that the Greeks climbed out of the Trojan Horse's butt. Pffff, can you believe that?" Dick scoffed.

"Uh... no?" Wally asked, unsure of what was going on.

Suddenly Artemis pulled Dick into a tight hug, startling the 18 year old. "Thank you for bringing him home, Dick." she whispered before lightly pecking him on the cheek. She pulled away just as Dick got over his shock.

"Pay up!" he turned towards Zatanna who still looked shocked.

"What?!" she asked, snapping out of her daze.

"You said that you'd give me $2500 if Artemis kissed me and she did. BOOM!"

"But that doesn't count!" Zatanna protested.

"And neither does crying with any sniffles!" he shot back. "She kissed me but you didn't specify whether she had to kiss me on the lips or on the cheek."

Zatanna sighed knowing that Dick was right. Her best friend did technically kiss him, even if it wasn't what she was expecting.

"Dnah Kcid owt dnasuoht dna evif derdnuh srallod," Zatanna said, as her wad of cash turned smaller.

"Thank you!" Dick said, as he handed Artemis $300. "And thank you!"

"You were in on it?!" Zatanna gasped.

"Technically no, but I heard you guys make your bet and I thought it'd be funny to see your reaction. And believe me, it was." Artemis chuckled.

"You are a cruel lady." Zatanna playfully glared.

"I know," she replied, before everyone burst out laughing. And just like that, everything was perfect again.

Daphne Dubois Profile

Daphne is 19 when Bruce takes her in

She wakes up in a coffin with no memory and has to dig herself out of her grave

Gordon finds her wandering the streets and when he reaches out to grab her his hand goes through her arm

So he calls bruce

And together they figure out that Daphne Dubois has been dead for 6 months

Daphne’s ‘father’ was actually Niles Caulder who experimented on her and gave her the ability to phase and create force fields

The last experiment he did had caused her death, which when when she came back gave her the ability to go between the physical and spiritual worlds

Daphne has the power to phase through objects, her body is in a constant state of flux

This contributes to her ability to phase through the different realms, often times spirits present themselves on the physical realm and she sees their ‘ghosts’

Daphne can solidify the different realms into solid matter creating force fields

She trains with Bruce and Dick to become ‘Ghost’

Sometimes, when she touches an object that has deep emotions connected to it she can see

daphne enjoys the color blue but over time green becomes her favorite

she likes to hide in the library since she can’t hear the whispers of the spirits calling out to her

Florence and Alfred teach Daphne how to bake as a way for her to cope

She’s an alright baker but she picks up gardening like it’s second nature, she tries to not think about how digging through the dirt reminds her of digging out of her grave

She likes to look at it as if she’s giving new life back into the earth

Daphne doesn’t like going out and fighting crime, although she’s really good at it, she’s a very passive person and doesn’t like the anxiety that fills her when she’s out in Gotham

Being in the city is horrible for her, she can hear all the screams and the cries of the people who die there every day.

If a spirit ever notices that Daphne can hear them they follow her around and harass her or plead for help depending on what kind of person they were

When Daphne moves into the manor she sees the spirit of 14 year old Jason Todd, he doesn’t know that she can see him straight away and she certainly doesn’t say anything

Eventually Jason realizes she can see and hear him when he continues to crack jokes after the others would speak and she’d try to hide her giggle or stifle her laughter.

Once he had realized she could see him he spent every moment he could trying to get her to laugh

He’d talk to her about anything and everything because he had nobody else to talk to, this ranged from his parents, to meeting Batman and the rest of the family

Daphne didn’t know how Jason died, as he didn’t seem to know either, and whenever she’d ask about it no one would tell her. So it seemed he had no recollection of the souring relationship between him and Batman

Daphne would have nightmares where she’d wake up gasping for air because she felt like she was still suffocating in her coffin, she’d claw at her chest and the sheets until she realized where she was

Often times when she got nightmares she’d go crawl into bed with Florence but the woman wasn’t always there and neither was Dick on most nights so Jason would appear to keep her company

Jason makes her swear that she won’t tell anyone that she can see him and that he hasn’t passed on yet, especially Florence as he was closer to her than Dick. He doesn’t want them to mourn him more than they have to.

Eventually Jason’s spirit disappears one day, and Daphne thinks that the boy finally passed on, she was happy for him but a part of her felt like it wasn’t over, like he wasn’t really gone.

When Daphne and Jason finally meet in real life and he’s 20 he doesn’t remember her, or at least seems not to.

So she simply pretends that she didn’t know everything about him and that she hadn’t told him all of her secrets

Wally and Bart need to be a duo again

I’m so happy that Bart is back (again), but I’m really hoping they don’t just lob the Bartholomews together and the Wallaces together. I really wish they’d make Bart Kid Flash again too. We have two Flashes, why can’t we have two Kid Flashes? I need Wally and Bart bonding time.

This TINY reunion is not nearly enough for me. Bart is Wally’s Kid Flash, Wally is Bart’s Flash. I don’t want that to be forgotten. When Barry returned in Flash: Rebirth (2009? 2010?), Bart was concerned that Barry being back would take Flash from Wally. (Haha, he was right.)

When both Wally and Bart got trapped in the Speed Force, Bart took comfort in Wally being in there with him. When he returned (the first time) in Rebirth, Bart immediately went searching for everyone. He didn’t find anyone (other than Godspeed, whose ass he kicked), and he ended up at the Flash Museum where he spoke to Wally’s and Barry’s statues.

He wants HIS Wally back. PLEASE, DC, let Bart and Wally be a duo again. And I really do not want him regressed to how he was originally as Impulse. This “kid” has more experience as a speedster than almost everyone, and I’m sure he’s the third fastest man alive.

Becoming Kid Flash was such an important part of his character too. I’m glad they’ve said stuff like “I’ve travelled the multiverse” in Young Justice, and that he came up with the plan in Speed Metal, but it seems like half the writers just want him to be another of the speedster kids.

TLDR: i really want wally and bart to become a duo. they’re my favorites. barry and bart DO need to do some bonding (so do barry and wallace for that matter. ugh, barry, talk to your grandkid and nephew), but i don’t want DC to just join barry and bart at the hip and wally and wallace a the hip. wally and bart have such a nice bond, and they both understand the speed force in a uniquely them way. i love that wally’s flash, and i like the current run, but i’m so scared of them regressing bart’s character.
