Hello all! I have some fun robot related news to share. Last weekend I went to Build Fight Fun in Tallahassee and GOT FIRST PLACE WITH FLUORINE!!!


I honestly did not expect this at all, I figured Fluorine would go 3-2 at best and lose in spectacular fashion. I don't really have the words to describe how happy I am about this.
I've been working on Fluorine in various forms for over 3 years, and it makes me happy to finally see the robot performing as well as it has been.

Using Flysky i6 for Combat robotics
FS-i6 is a entry level radio transmitter used by hobbyists in Rc Car,Rc Boat, Rc planes,drones etc. But in this tutorial I would like to write specifically of using fs-i6 for the control of Combat robot
More importantly about channel mixing..
The receiver that comes with the radio has 6 channels. But for combat robotics , 3 channel is enough (Forward Backward, Left right & weapon)
There are two modes of control
1. Elevon Mix
2.V tail Mix.
But what is mixing and why is it necessary??
For that let us know a basic connection how two motors of the bot (left side and right side) are controlled via the radio. For that we have to use a motor driver that has bidirectional properties.(forward & reverse). We connect the motor driver with the motors, battery and the receiver.

Notice only two channels are used. Each channel for each side.(Left side & ride side)
Let us consider channel 1 is connected to the left side and channel 2 is connected to the right side. But you could notice that if you push the stick forward, the left side motor will move and the bot will move towards the right, pushing the stick backward will move the bot left.
If you move the stick towards left side the right side motor will get activated and the motor will move left, moving the stick towards right makes the bot move toward right.
That means to move the bot forward we should push the stick diagonally. But do we need that??
For this, channel mixing comes . When I push forward, both the motors should be moving in same direction making the bot forward and the if I move the stick toward left , right side motors should move forward, left side motors move backward and the bot moves towards the left.(Look up Differential drive).
1.Elevon Mix
Elevon' is the standard channel mix for single-stick combat robot control., Elevon mixing places both throttle and rotation control on the right-hand stick, leaving the left stick open for other uses
In easier terms the right stick of the radio(channel 1 & 2) is used for forward ,backward left and right, leaving channel 3, (the left stick) for weapons (drum,vertical spinners, horizontal spinners etc).
2.V-Tail Mix
V-tail is used less frequently than Elevon as a combat robot drive mix.
That means the right stick of the radio controls forward and backward(channel 2) Left stick is used for left and right movement (channel 4).
Steps for setting up
· Connect the motors and battery with the motor driver.
· Connect the left side port of the motor driver with channel 1 and the right side port with channel 2.
· Now go to elevon mixing in the function setup
· Turn it on and set the stick percentages.
· Save the setting
· For Vtail mixing, Connect with the channel 3 and channel 4 and turn Vtail mixing on.

Welp, Robot Ruckus has ended and i ended up going 2-2 with Fluorine and 1-1 with Chloride. Fluorines new spinner worked very well, doing a lot of damage to my opponents. I already have a lot of improvements in mind to fix the issues I had with it during the event. Chloride through, well let's just say that this version of Chloride is getting retired. However I am excited to announce that I am currently building Chloride mk2. I hope to make the new version a lot easier to maintain than the old one. Overall I had a lot of fun at this event and I hope to return to come back and do better next time. Also congrats to @gator_battlebots for taking first place in BOTH INSECT WEIGHT CLASSES.
