Oliver’s been stressed. it’s an obvious thing, despite the way he tries to hide it with tired smiles and invitations to stay in for the night instead of out on the town. you’re not in a relationship with him, but he texts and calls you more often than not, lets this look cross over his face when he doesn’t think you’re looking. it’s something in between, something yet unspoken.

it’s why you’re not sure if it’s overstepping too close into relationship territory when you suggest a paint date with him. well, not really date, you had stumbled over your words when you introduced the idea to him. just a day where we stay in and paint and order some food and desserts and just—

he’d agreed on the spot, stopping your rambling with a lighthearted smile, a softness in his eyes that you’re not sure you’re meant to see. but he agrees nonetheless, and so you’re set.

the day is cloudy, the air thick with oncoming rain. you’d stayed the night, so all you wear is a pair of his boxers and an old jersey of his. you insisted on sleeping naked, but Oliver had urged you to don his clothing for reasons you think may be too fond that you try not to dwell on, lest you hurt your own feelings with assumptions. but he kisses your head when you plate both of your lunches that he’d ordered, pats you gently on the butt when you lean into it.

“I’m not a painter,” Oliver groused a few minutes after you got started. you sit across from him at his dining room table, too big and fancy, puts you too far of a distance away from him. your legs are crossed and your eyebrows are furrowed in focus. they crease when his words pull you from your concentration; a landscape painting, set at dawn, a pretty wonky deer in the distance, the sky a navy blue, the green a bit too bright for grass. (do the colors match his eyes and his hair? you’re not too sure. you’d deny it anyway, even if you were. which you’re totally not. right?)

“And neither am I,” you tell him, biting your lip in focus as you try to marry the blue and green well. “But this is for fun and relaxation. Not necessarily for talent.”

Oliver falls quiet after that. makes a few quips here and there, peeks around his canvas at you to make some sly remark about how he’s gonna win the best painting. you can only laugh, eyes squinted in mirth, unseeing of how he captures the details with his eyes, his memory.

“Okay, it’s time to reveal our paintings.” you tell him after an hour has passed, and you’ve both fallen quiet in concentration. Oliver looks unsure, the most you’ve ever seen him, and offers for you to go first. he smiles when you flip the canvas, giving you a slow clap, eyes drinking in the details, the colors that reflect him in every sense. he doesn’t say it out loud. he couldn’t if he wanted to, not when he turns his painting and reveals you.

“It’s a little shitty,” he says when you’ve gone quiet for too long, stiff as stone. “I couldn’t really get your eyes right, and your hair is a little off but—”

“It’s perfect,” you say softly, smile shaky, everything unsaid in the way he captured your smile, the reflection of him, of pining, in your eyes. “Out of all the things to paint, why me?”

“Why not?” he counters, saying everything and nothing, his words full and empty, enough but never quite filling. you smile anyway.

They’re really interesting foils in many ways. I’ve always thought that Marcille & Mithrun have underrated dynamic potential. Give me the cringefail dungeon lords. Give me the elves with ears-centric metaphorical self-image issues. Give me the academic elites whose deepest strongest desires will always remain unreachable and the only option is to turn to the corrupt forbidden fruit of a demon pact. I am so so normal about Mithrun and Marcille

I wonder if the resemblance between captain Mithrun and general Hagreus aka Marcille’s fave in Dalclan is intentional… They definitely look very alike. It could represent idealization vs reality? Something something the romanticization of elves and their societal drama in their fiction vs a very real and imperfect product of their military system. The canaries certainly aren’t glamorous next to whatever Hagreus is the general of. I feel like she never had the opportunity to notice the resemblance herself bc within seconds of meeting him he was wrestling her on the ground but. If she had… She would so think he should have been his actor in the tallman stage play of Daltian Clan in that new extra comic hehe. I love the little details like Hagreus’ lips being drawn with extra details because they’re full and pretty while Mithrun’s lips are drawn with extra details because they’re chapped lmao.

This art is all silly and surface level but in my head mithrille is like so dramatic and I make up daltian clan level big plots with them gbdgd. I made a spotify playlist for mithrun if y’all interested, rn it’s mostly centered around cravings that consume and losing yourself and illusions inspired from his time as dungeon lord but it’s branching out. Varied vibes, levels of intensity and degrees of confusion and await you ✨ I would emotionally rant about Chainsaw Man ost lyrics and how they tie in with Mithrun and the winged lion’s relationship but this post is already a monster

I want more of these two please please please pleaseee just one or two interactions in the new canon content coming up… All they ever did was debate philosophy on desires and human self-fulfillment and try to murder each other, please… I never get to gush about them and I can’t shut up so if you want more thoughts I talk about them more below

To get a girl to peacefully accept arrest follow these simple steps: in private, ominously stand above her and forcefully interrogate her, while in public, tell her you’ve met before (untrue and also not a pickup line) and interrogate her with a thin veneer of decorum. Sorry if most of these were Marcille-centric with Mithrun standing there looking cool, if I were doing these more from Mithrun’s pov things would be like "She’s a bit much but I guess I don’t mind hanging around her." or "Oh you’re a half-elf? -insert elven supremacist rethoric-" or "I have to keep her from becoming demon stew." immediately followed by "Did someone say demon? Kill kill kill kill kill" since these are set prior to like really knowing another. Then things would be more like "huh she has bad tastes in novels but her magic research is pretty interesting" and "I’m lonely and don’t understand myself— Oh she loves talking about feelings? Oh shi-" That last one is an aspect of why I like Marcille and Mithrun’s potential dynamic lol. She’s very… Emotionally intelligent alongside being impulsive. You think you have no feelings because the world has beaten them out of you? Think again!! Marcille be upon ye! -In a therapy sort of way but mostly in a connecting with people and your own self through interpersonal relationships and talking kinda way. I just think a lively, upbeat, annoying friend way too interested in your personal life would do him good, the canaries are nice but like if Marcille went to prison and was a sort of extra new bunkmate I think that’d be interesting and fun to read is what I’m saying

Unlike Kabru she wants all the useless messy filler of his backstory, eating chips while listening. Like two chibi sets side by side, "me and my fellow canaries, name name and name-" "Hold on that’s too much info we have to compact this" vs "Then we were to sleep on the third floor of the dungeon, which had the look of a mausoleum, and name and name got into a fight over the campfire placement." while Marcille is like uh-huh what next what next while kicking her feet. She thinks of pre-dungeon pompous Mithrun and is like omg you went through a character arc and became better as a person- and then he opens his mouth and she’s like nevermind let’s keep working on that. She would also go "ew ur hair is greasy" and give him a full hair care treatment. What I’m saying is I need them to be forced to spend time in a dungeon together and become besties through a life or death roadtrip

Marcille is insecure about her ears, long, like an elf’s pride should be, but rounder, inelegant. Seeing Mithrun though, the epitome of beauty, with his half-cut ears make it a sillier thought. Not sure if Mithrun is the best person to reconnect with ur elven culture with but it sure is an option Marcille would so appreciate being around someone both cool headed and kind, I genuinely think they’d get along, like not that Senshi isn’t that too most of the time but I think Mithrun would be in a way that’s more refreshing to her. I’d be so curious about them discussing Dalclan, I doubt he’d have read it but she could make him read it, maybe post-canon with the excuse that they’re trying to find him a new hobby hah. He’d tear into the writing and everything but it’d be a fun time, I like to think that it’d make him a bit less prejudiced. I’ve been in a Mithrun phase I want to make and read Mithrun-centric fics and angst so baaad. I razz him a lot here but he’s literally a traumatized military man that became obsessed with revenge due to bad coping and neglects himself in the process idk not much for him going on and some of it is because he has to work on himself, but hey no one’s perfect it all comes from a place of love and relating though I prommy. He’s the one ungodly angsty squeaky toy blorbo with brain damage rep I have don’t take him from me

I was watching a video on how to spot AI posts on places like reddit and one of the things they mentioned was well-organized paragraphs. And this vid isn't the only place I've seen that, I've seen people cite proper punctuation, capitalization, and generally good grammar as either proof or at least a warning that a post is AI-generated.

RIP to people who actually write well and ever try to share even slightly odd experiences online I guess...

Maybe drawing Sketch's, Tony's and Colin's first impressions of eachother if you're not busy? (request thingy)

Ok so. Actually thought about this and I have Stuff To Say so this is going to be moderately long ^^

When Sketch and Tony met it was their first time seeing another teacher or someone who could be an equal. Both of them were very surprised, Sketch being very excited about it and Tony not so much admittedly, but he warmed up fast. Befriended each other expectedly, nobody else was there anyways

Their first impression of Colin was Not Good, he was still very shaken up after the events of his episode. It was made worse by their bad experience with the last teacher, shrignold

Sketch was the first one to show some compassion to Colin, cautiously optimistic about the situation hoping that he was just not in his best moment and excited to have someone else to talk to. Colin appreciated her but was still untrusting of the whole Place™

Tony was very much not welcoming, his past trust issues and bad experiences with the other ... Things around were an unlucky combination on Colin, who very much disliked him for his attitude at first. The awkward phase lasted a little longer than with sketch but they warmed up too, they had a frenemis-like relationship for the longest time but now it's mostly teases and stuff ,, you get it

(in summary: my oc, rin, and alain, have lived in my head rent free for 3 years now. they mean the world to me. i love them. to me, they are THE it couple <3)

rin yukino is a hyper competitive trainer with a (shiny) mega gardevoir, goal focused and independent to the point of flaw. born and raised in kalos, but with family from sinnoh, she had spent much of her childhood fitting into her parent's mold for a perfect daughter. she was a straight-a student, principal violinist, preparing to attend a top university - at 18, she realized that wasn't who she wanted to be anymore. she became a pokemon trainer instead.

(somewhat unimportantly, her usual trainer design consists of teal highlights in her hair, orange earrings shaped like the heart that goes through a mega gardevoir's chest, and a lot of black and gray. she matches diva, her gardevoir, like alain matches his charizard. they're both extra like that.)

she meets alain viard when they're both 22, shortly after the events of TSME act 4. she's on the gym challenge, and he's... alain. they battle, and he wins. twice in a row. then they go from rivals to rivals with benefits, then maybe even friends if they weren't both so emotionally reclusive i mean haha what-

alarin, aka rin "i'm stronger on my own" yukino and alain "i only destroy those around me" viard

even if he's won both times, alain can't help but be attracted one of the few people who can keep up with him, who cares about winning nearly as much as he does, who treats pokemon battling like it's all she has. he knows the feeling. he thinks she might understand him.

she's half of the reason behind both his decision to fill out his team beyond charizard and his decision to challenge the gyms

when they fall apart, just a month before the team flare crisis, i like to think of them like a supernova. short lived but bright and brilliant. doomed from the start.

the details of their falling out are complicated, so we'd be here all day if i tried to explain.

rin fails to stand by him during the fight against lysandre. she doesn't have the courage to. but she does, however, find him in the aftermath. she helps him heal and pick up the broken pieces. that's where 99% of their relationship really comes from.

i filter them into the category titled "couples written by taylor swift's the great war" and if you know you know

because it's important to me, rin gets along great with mairin.

at first she's a bit annoyed by her over-enthusiasm. rin is cold, blunt, realistic, and introverted, mairin is the opposite of all of those things. but once she sees how much mairin means to alain she does a full 180

and mairin's only ever had older brothers (both in her biological family and in alain), so having rin around to show her how to do her hair, her makeup, AND annoy the hell out of alain when appropriate is her favorite thing ever.

they are very good at bullying alain into taking care of himself (because he is very bad at that, as we all know.)

eventually, rin will go on to become one of the kalos elite four, after malva gets arrested (for being Very Fucking Evil).

one of my favorite things ever to think about is how the random internet people would claim "rin is only with alain to try and get famous" (and also make lengthy twitter/x callout threads on how alain is a problematic person because of his team flare involvement, and therefore decently-well-known league challenger rin yukino is also problematic by proxy), only for alain to generally avoid the public spotlight (there are lots of headcanons here. in short, he goes to university) and rin to be hired as elite four. and then she becomes far more famous as a result. and then the internet trolls are like "...oh." and a majority of the general population doesn't even know she and alain are a thing, because it's only obvious if you scrolled intensely through her instagram account.

i don't know why alarin getting stupid hate threads on twitter/x is the funniest thing to me but it really, really is!!

the internet is convinced alarin is a manipulative ploy on rin's end and one day she reads one of the twitter threads making all these claims about what she's done and she just goes "bitch i did what" and finds it absolutely hilarious
