Another video of collection of things I love, simply like to look at, or looking forward to. XD With the song "River of Blood" by Huang Xiaoyun.
Qin's Moon (Animation TV series)
9 Songs of the Moving Heavens (Animation TV series)
Legendary Twins (Animation TV series)
The Ravages of Time (Animation TV series)
The Demon Hunter (Animation TV series)
THRUD (Animation TV series)
Green Snake (Animation movie)
New Gods: Yang Jian (Animation movie)
Honkai: Star Railway (Video game)
Punishing: Gray Raven (Video game)
Black Myth: Wukong (Video game)
Where Winds Meet (Video game)
Condor Heroes (Video game)
Project: The Perceiver (Video game)
Aether Gazer (Video game)
Gujian 3 (Video game)
I would have added Moonlight Blade Mobile too, but I think I'll wait until I have more clips or something.
This upload focuses only on Chinese animation and Chinese video games. It's because the list was pretty long already and I didn't want to squeeze in the others.
This song is from (or is for) a mobile game titled Justice Online/逆水寒. Probably a promotion song for it. I got curious about the lyrics and ended up giving it a rough translation.

I've also started A Hero Born! How are you liking it so far?
Quite a bit! I have a bit of an issue with how the translator decided to do the names (it's inconsistent, Guo Jing and Lotus Huang both exist), but that's not the author's fault. I'm not nearly as far in as I'd like, the main characters haven't even been born yet, but oooh, still so good. Qiu Chuji is being a real dumbass with how he's going about looking for people, but I'm greatly enjoying his fight scenes

My progress in Condor Heroes is slow--I read it on the bus and during my daughter's piano lessons, and I haven't taken the bus to work the last little while.
But today I finally got to sit down with it again and man, this does not disappoint. Huang Rong is going to do a little arson as a treat and then break into the palace! Now she's going to kill some unfortunate girl--but okay, fine, her boyfriend looks sad about it so she'll behave.
She and her dad are just. So very. So very.

hey tav, quick question! i just read your jin yong post and i'm new to his novels so. i was wondering in which one does the. uh. shizunfucking occur 👀 asking for a friend, as they say. thanks in advance! <3
HELLO FRIEND SO GLAD YOU ASKED.
The Shizunfucking (okay I have to clarify, the age difference here is somewhere between like, 3-7 years, SHIZUN is not very much older than her disciple here.) occurs in ROCH, Return of the Condor Heroes, which is the second book in the Condor Trilogy and the direct sequel to LOCH (Legend of the Condor Heroes) following Yang Guo (the disciple in question).
I won't spoil too much of the plot but like, this is where we get the stereotypical extremely beautiful ice cold dressed in white shizun and the besotted cheeky disciple from.
Also they have an ice bed. That she makes him sleep on. And at one point they have to practice martial arts together naked or it wouldn't work and they'd die. And they got married with a dead woman's wedding clothes and also she tells him that since she promised to care for him forever if she feels like she's dying she'll kill him and then put him in the same coffin as her and shut it so they'll die together etc etc.
And also at one point she pitches herself off a cliff. And they get horribly poisoned by the "IF YOU FUCK (or even just get a hornt boner tbh) YOU'LL DIE" poison. (do you see some common shizunfucker tropes here, bc MAN OH MAN.) btw this book was written in 1959-1961. They just let people put this in the NEWSPAPER in INSTALLMENTS like this.
And uh. yeah. Okay a lot happens in this book and it's not really ABOUT Shizunfucking but it's also not not about Shizunfucking. Like all Jin Yong books, this is a very book.
Also dw I've spoiled nothing about the plot.
iirc there is not an official translation and the ROCH adaptation everyone yells about is the 95 version which I can only find on youtube in Cantonese but it DOES have Carman Lee (who plays Lan Yi in CQL) as Xiao Longnv, which is a huge plus. I don't thiiiink you necessarily need to know what a LOCH is to read/watch ROCH but also I feel like it would make sense to watch/read LOCH first?
Feel free to send me follow-up questions!

They've been deathly ill. Maybe they've died and come back from the dead. Maybe they were born like this.
Whichever it is, these characters have had their wigs tossed into a vat of bleach and there's no going back now!
*this poll is for a full head of white hair, there will be a separate poll for a white streak later
Write-ins, propaganda, and images are welcome!

xiao zhan - legend of the condor heroes update
from this interview, The movie "The Legend of the Condor Heroes: The Greatest Hero" directed by Tsui Hark and starring Xiao Zhan and Zhuang Dafei has been completed and is in post-production. The film will be released this year and is planned to be released simultaneously around the world. This high-profile new film may not only be the masterpiece of a martial arts film after many years, but also a collision between director Tsui Hark and young actors such as Xiao Zhan and Zhuang Dafei. It is an encounter between martial arts culture and young audiences.

if i invited a daoist with martial skill obviously orders of magnitude greater than mine into my house with my very sweet best friend and our pregnant wives, i would simply not repeatedly pick a fight with him. even if he was really really annoying

how is condor heroes?(book or show, whichever)
I'm deeply enjoying it! I'm most of the way through the recent translation by Gigi Chang, Anna Holmwood, and Shelly Bryant. More qualified people can talk about the translation--as an English-only reader I can't really evaluate that but it's making a really good story accessible to me even if it's imperfect. (I can say that the way they choose to translate some but not all names is fairly annoying, and when going to Wikipedia to find the actual names I kept getting spoilers. I see how it can be a tricky translation choice, as the names are intended to convey meaning to the reader and sometimes there are textual references to the meaning of the name, so not translating them is also a conscious choice...eh, I don't love the way they do it.) ANYWAY, if you enjoy wuxia fantasy they're a blast, there's a huge cast of wonderful characters, the hero Guo Jing is quite lovable and his partner Huang Rong is amazing. She rocks. She and her dad are incredible (though where I am right now I want to bonk her dad's head into the wall a few times, why are you like this, why can't you just be normal about something for once in your life, I know your whole Thing is not being normal but come onnnnn).
I'm about halfway through the 2017 adaptation and also enjoying it very much. The first 15 minutes of the second episode (on YouTube here) are a nice taste of it. We're introducing a bunch of important secondary characters in a fun fight scene.

tbh for new loch maybe I should've just led with "have you ever wanted to watch Meng Ziyi play a hot evil woman who's also unhinged because boy do I have the show and the character for you!"
anyway 2024 loch has Meng Ziyi playing Mei Chaofeng, who is a hot evil woman with gr8 clothes.
Tumblr media
anyway bon appetit I will be here with bells on when this drops.

These characters are rays of sunshine and we love to see them! Not only that, but they are intensely loyal - truly man's best friend <3 I can practically see the tail wagging when they're told they've done a good job...
