Album Review: Fontaines DC - Dogrel
Album Review: Fontaines DC – Dogrel
Album Review: Fontaines DC – Dogrel
Words by Gary Lambert
There has been considerable hype about this Dublin band and what they could do, so I think most of our music world has been waiting for Dogrel to drop going on the amount of Happy Dogrel Day posts I saw on release day. This is an example of when Public Enemy get things wrong, you can most certainly believe the hype when it comes to Fontai…

[Album + Video] Fontaines D.C. kündigen neues Album “Skinty Fia” an!
Tumblr media
Als ersten Song daraus präsentieren die Dubliner “Jackie Down The Line”!
“But ‘skinty fia’ is also used as an expletive, in the way you’d say ‘For fuck’s sake’ if you bang your arm on a table or whatever. We just thought there was something really beautiful about that, because it’s really representative of Irish culture in some sense. We were interested in the idea of something really precious or sentimental and attached to family, but also something that’s been taken away from us.“
youtube
“We’ve now found homes, places to live, and nurtured our relationships. The songs are different because we’ve got greater emotional tools”, berichtet Frontmann Grian Chatten.
“Don’t think / We’d rhyme / I will wear you down in time / I will hurt you / I’ll desert you / I am Jackie down the line.“ “There’s a bravery about it and it’s just really expansive, musically and lyrically”, erzählt Chatten. “The songs have more scope and are fully-realised. You might say we’re all really proud of it.”

Fontaines D.C. are a Dublin post-punk band made up of Grian Chatten, Carlos O’Connell, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan III and Tom Coll. In April 2019 they released their debut album Dogrel, to huge critical acclaim and have recently released their follow-up, A Hero’s Death. With eagerness, fervour and sincerity their politically-minded, dynamic, chant-worthy songs depict male vulnerability, detachment, death, rebirth, the depth of the human soul and the dark perils of modern living. They really know what they’re talking about, the least we can do is listen.
Here is their manifesto.

Dublin’s Fontaines D.C. are back with the first single Jackie Down The Line, this is a taster of their third album Skinty Fia (Used colloquially as an expletive, the title roughly translates from the Irish language into English as “the damnation of the deer”) which will be released on the 22nd April 2022.
