Reading and Importing Data in SAS: CSV, Excel, and More
In the world of data analytics, efficient data importation is a fundamental skill. SAS (Statistical Analysis System), a powerful platform for data analysis and statistical computing, offers robust tools to read and import data from various formats, including CSV, Excel, and more. Regardless of whether you are a beginner or overseeing analytics at an enterprise level, understanding how to import data into SAS is the initial step towards obtaining valuable insights.
This article breaks down the most common methods of importing data in SAS, along with best practices and real-world applications—offering value to everyone from learners in a Data Analyst Course to experienced professionals refining their workflows.
Why Importing Data Matters in SAS
Before any analysis begins, the data must be accessible. Importing data correctly ensures integrity, compatibility, and efficiency in processing. SAS supports a range of formats, allowing analysts to work with data from different sources seamlessly. The most common among these are CSV and Excel files due to their ubiquity in business and research environments.
Understanding how SAS handles these files can drastically improve productivity, particularly when working with large datasets or performing repetitive tasks in reporting and modelling.
Importing CSV Files into SAS
Comma-Separated Values (CSV) files are lightweight, easy to generate, and commonly used to exchange data. In SAS, importing CSVs is straightforward.
When importing a CSV file, SAS treats each line as an observation and each comma as a delimiter between variables. This format is ideal for users who deal with exported data from databases or web applications.
Best Practices:
Clean your CSV files before importing—ensure no missing headers, extra commas, or encoding issues.
Use descriptive variable names in the first row of the CSV to streamline your SAS workflow.
Always review the imported data to verify that variable types and formats are interpreted correctly.
Professionals undertaking a Data Analyst Course often begin with CSV files due to their simplicity, making this an essential foundational skill.
Importing Excel Files into SAS
Excel files are the go-to format for business users and analysts. They often contain multiple sheets, merged cells, and various data types, which adds complexity to the import process.
SAS provides built-in tools for reading Excel files, including engines like XLSX and the Import Wizard, which are available in SAS Studio or Enterprise Guide. These tools allow users to preview sheets, specify ranges, and even convert date formats during import.
Key Considerations:
Ensure the Excel file is not open during import to avoid access errors.
Use consistent formatting in Excel—SAS may misinterpret mixed data types within a single column.
If your Excel workbook contains multiple sheets, decide whether you need to import one or all of them.
Advanced users and those enrolled in a Data Analytics Course in Mumbai often work with Excel as part of larger data integration pipelines, making mastery of these techniques critical.
Importing Data from Other Sources
Beyond CSV and Excel, SAS supports numerous other data formats, including:
Text files (.txt): Often used for raw data exports or logs.
Database connections: Through SAS/ACCESS, users can connect to databases like Oracle, SQL Server, or MySQL.
JSON and XML: Increasingly used in web-based and API data integrations.
SAS Datasets (.sas7bdat): Native format with optimised performance for large datasets.
Each format comes with its own import nuances, such as specifying delimiters, encoding schemes, or schema mappings. Familiarity with these enhances flexibility in working with diverse data environments.
Tips for Efficient Data Importing
Here are a few practical tips to improve your SAS data importing skills:
Automate repetitive imports using macros or scheduled jobs.
Validate imported data against source files to catch discrepancies early.
Log and document your import steps—especially when working in team environments or preparing data for audits.
Stay updated: SAS frequently updates its procedures and import capabilities to accommodate new formats and security standards.
Learning and Upskilling with SAS
Importing data is just one piece of the SAS puzzle. For aspiring data professionals, structured training offers the advantage of guided learning, hands-on practice, and industry context. A Data Analyst training will typically begin with data handling techniques, setting the stage for more advanced topics like modelling, visualisation, and predictive analytics.
For learners in metro regions, a Data Analytics Course in Mumbai can provide local networking opportunities, expert mentorship, and exposure to real-world projects involving SAS. These programs often include training in data import techniques as part of their curriculum, preparing students for the demands of modern data-driven roles.

Using Amazon Data Firehose For Iceberg Table Replication
Tumblr media
Amazon Data Firehose
Dependable real-time stream loading into analytics services, data lakes, and warehouses.
Capturing, transforming, and loading streaming data is simple. With a few clicks, you can create a delivery stream, choose your destination, and begin streaming data in real time.
Provide and scale network, memory, and processing resources automatically without constant management.
Without creating your own processing pipelines, you may dynamically segment streaming data and convert raw streaming data into formats like Apache Parquet.
How it operates
The simplest method for obtaining, transforming, and sending data streams to analytics services, data lakes, and data warehouses in a matter of seconds is offered by Amazon Data Firehose. Setting up a stream with a source, destination, and necessary modifications is necessary in order to use Amazon Data Firehose. The stream is continuously processed by Amazon Data Firehose, which scales automatically according to the volume of data available and provides it in a matter of seconds.
Source
Choose your data stream’s source, such as a stream in Kinesis Data Streams, a topic in Amazon Managed Streaming for Kafka (MSK), or write data using the Firehose Direct PUT API. You can build up a stream from sources like Amazon CloudWatch Logs, AWS WAF web ACL logs, AWS Network Firewall Logs, Amazon SNS, or AWS IoT because Amazon Data Firehose is connected into more than 20 AWS services.
Data Transformation (optional)
Choose whether you wish to decompress the data, execute custom data transformations using your own AWS Lambda function, convert your data stream into formats like Parquet or ORC, or dynamically partition input records based on attributes to send into separate places.
The destination
Choose a destination for your stream, such as Splunk, Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Amazon OpenSearch Service, Amazon S3, or a custom HTTP endpoint.
Use cases
Flow into warehouses and data lakes
Without creating processing pipelines, stream data into Amazon S3 and transform it into the formats needed for analysis.
Increase security
Use supported Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solutions to keep an eye on network security in real time and generate warnings when possible threats materialize.
Create applications for ML streaming
To evaluate data and forecast inference endpoints as streams go to their destination, enhance your data streams with machine learning (ML) models.
Use Amazon Data Firehose to replicate database updates to Apache Iceberg tables (in preview)
A new feature in Amazon Data Firehose that records modifications made to databases like PostgreSQL and MySQL and replicates the changes to Apache Iceberg tables on Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) is being made available in preview today.
An excellent open-source table format for large data analytics is Apache Iceberg. Open-source analytics engines like Apache Spark, Apache Flink, Trino, Apache Hive, and Apache Impala can operate with the same data simultaneously with Apache Iceberg, which also adds the simplicity and dependability of SQL tables to S3 data lakes.
This new feature offers a straightforward, end-to-end way to stream database updates without affecting database applications’ transaction performance. To transmit change data capture (CDC) updates from your database, you can quickly set up a Data Firehose stream. Data from various databases can now be readily replicated into Iceberg tables on Amazon S3, allowing you to access current data for machine learning (ML) and large-scale analytics applications.
Typical Enterprise clients of Amazon Web Services (AWS) utilize hundreds of databases for transactional applications. They wish to record database changes, such as the addition, modification, or deletion of records in a table, and send the updates to their data warehouse or Amazon S3 data lake in open source table formats like Apache Iceberg so that they can do large-scale analytics and machine learning on the most recent data.
Many clients create extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes to read data from databases on a regular basis in order to accomplish this. However, batch tasks can cause many hours of delay before data is ready for analytics, and ETL readers affect database transaction speed. Customers seek the option to stream database changes in order to lessen the impact on database transaction performance. A change data capture (CDC) stream is the name given to this stream.
Installing and configuring several open-source components is necessary for the initial setup and testing of such systems. Days or weeks may pass. The operational overhead is increased by the engineers’ need to validate and implement open source updates, monitor and manage clusters after setup.
CDC streams from databases can now be continuously replicated to Apache Iceberg tables on Amazon S3 using Amazon Data Firehose’s new data streaming feature. A Data Firehose stream is created by defining its source and destination. An initial data snapshot and all ensuing modifications made to the chosen database tables are captured and continuously replicated by Data Firehose as a data stream. Data Firehose minimizes the impact on database transaction performance by using the database replication log to obtain CDC streams.
AWS Data Firehose automatically splits the data and keeps records until they are sent to their destination, regardless of how frequently the number of database updates changes. Cluster management and fine-tuning, as well as capacity provisioning, are optional. As part of the initial Data Firehose stream creation, Data Firehose can automatically generate Apache Iceberg tables with the same schema as the database tables in addition to the data itself. It can also dynamically develop the target schema, adding additional columns, for example, in response to changes in the source schema.
You don’t need to use open source components, install software upgrades, or pay for overhead because Data Firehose is a fully managed service.
Amazon Data Firehose offers a straightforward, scalable, end-to-end managed solution for delivering CDC streams into your data lake or data warehouse, where you can execute extensive analysis and machine learning applications. It does this by continuously replicating database updates to Apache Iceberg tables in Amazon S3.
Things to be aware of
Here are some other things to be aware of.
The following databases on Amazon RDS and self-managed PostgreSQL and MySQL databases on Amazon EC2 are supported by this new feature:
Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL-Compatible Edition with Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL
Amazon Aurora MySQL-Compatible Edition with Amazon RDS for MySQL
Throughout the trial period and beyond general availability, the team will keep adding support for other databases. They informed me that support for MongoDB, Oracle, and SQL Server databases is already in the works.
Data Firehose connects to databases in your Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) via AWS PrivateLink.
You have two options when configuring an Amazon Data Firehose delivery stream: you may define a class of tables and columns using wildcards, or you can specify particular tables and columns. When using wildcards, Data Firehose will automatically construct new tables and columns in the destination if they match the wildcard and are added to the database after the Data Firehose stream is created.
Accessibility
With the exception of the Asia Pacific (Malaysia), AWS GovCloud (US), and China regions, all AWS regions now offer the new data streaming feature.
Amazon Data Firehose pricing
At the start of the preview, there are no fees for your use. In the future, the price will be determined by your actual usage, such as the number of bytes read and supplied. There are no upfront costs or obligations. To learn more, be sure to read the pricing page.

What is Flutter and Why 2024 Is the Perfect Time to Learn It?
Tumblr media
Mobile applications have become more and more common this year. Fortunately, developers who wish to make them have access to a wide variety of programming tools. Flutter is one of these tools that has been making waves lately.
Flutter: What is it? Google announced Flutter, a free and open-source mobile user interface framework, in May 2017. To put it briefly, it lets you use a single codebase to generate native mobile applications. This implies that you can create two distinct apps (for iOS and Android) using the same programming language and codebase.
Flutter is made up of two key components:
A set of tools called an SDK (Software Development Kit) will assist you in creating applications. Included in this are resources for converting your code into native machine code (iOS and Android code).
A Framework (UI Library based on widgets) is an assortment of reusable user interface components (such as text input fields, sliders, buttons, and so forth) that you can customize to suit your requirements.
You will use the programming language Dart to work using Flutter. Although Google invented the language in October 2011, it has seen significant improvement in the intervening years.
Dart is a front-end programming toolkit that may be used to create web and mobile applications.
Dart is a typed object programming language, for those who know a little bit about programming. The syntax of Dart is similar to that of JavaScript.
Google's UI toolkit, Flutter, allows developers to create stunning natively built desktop, web, and mobile applications from a single codebase. Search engine, flutter.dev
Why would you want to learn Flutter? I've chosen a few of my favorite Flutter features and the reasons I plan to use it in the upcoming year. Details and my thoughts are provided below.
Easy to use and understand You can sense that Flutter is a contemporary framework! Using it to construct mobile applications is much easier. You will note that Flutter differs from Java, Swift, and React Native if you have used any of these. Before utilizing Flutter, I had little interest in developing mobile applications.
I adore Flutter because it makes it possible to construct a truly native application without writing a ton of code.
Fast compilation for optimal output You can alter your code and witness the real-time consequences because of Flutter. It's known as Hot-Reload. Once you save, updating the application itself just takes a little while. You must reload the application if there are significant changes. However, when working on projects like design, for instance, you can alter an element's size instantly!
Suitable for MVP launches Flutter is an excellent option if you want to present your idea to investors as soon as feasible.
My top 4 arguments for using it for your MVP are as follows: Since you don't have to make and manage two mobile apps—one for iOS and one for Android—developing a mobile application with Flutter is less expensive.
To design your MVP, all you need is one developer.
You won't be able to tell a Flutter app from a native application because of its performance.
t's gorgeous; you can quickly customize it with the widgets offered by Flutter to produce a useful user interface for your clients VS Code and Android Studio-compatible,  Flutter is accessible through a variety of IDEs. For development with this technology, VS Code and Android Studio (IntelliJ) are the two primary code editors.
Android Studio is a fully functional software that comes with everything pre-integrated. To get started, you must download the Flutter and Dart plugins.
VS Code is a little application with configurable features thanks to third-party plugins.
I use Android Studio since it requires minimal configuration to function.
You can select the IDE of your choice!
Are you attempting to create a fully functioning cross-platform application that provides an enjoyable user experience? Now there's another place to search! As a reputable Flutter app development firm, we have developed feature-rich apps for companies and startups worldwide. The skilled Flutter app developers at Mobantica are dedicated to bringing your idea to life and offering the best possible mobile app solutions. Hire Flutter developer to validate your business idea, and get in contact with us right now.
Conclusion: So, what are your thoughts on Flutter? Next year, are you going to begin studying it?
I hope you were intrigued and inspired by this introduction. If you enjoyed this post, please consider sharing it.
You may follow me on Twitter, where I tweet about web development, personal growth, and my path as a full-stack developer if you want to see more posts like this one!

It’s Easy to Learn
Angular and Vue, two prominent frontend frameworks, are significantly more difficult to learn than React.
In fact, it's one of the primary reasons why React JS Development Services has gotten so much popularity in such a short period of time. It enables firms to construct projects more rapidly.
The more difficult it is to understand a specific technology or framework, the longer it will take to begin the development process. And, as humans, we frequently avoid topics that are difficult to learn.
It Helps to Build Rich User Interfaces
Nowadays, the user interface of an application is important. If the user interface is badly designed, the odds of a programme succeeding are reduced.
However, if an application has a high-quality user interface, there is a larger probability that your consumers will enjoy using it.
As a result, creating rich user interfaces is sort of required for a programme to live and develop.
The good news is that React's declarative components enable the creation of such high-quality, rich user interfaces, which leads us to our next point.
It Allows Writing Custom Components
React comes with JSX, a syntactic extension that lets you create your own components.
These components basically allow HTML quoting and make all subcomponent rendering a joy for developers.
JSX has been the topic of many debates, yet it has already been used to create custom components, build high-volume apps, and convert HTML mockups into ReactElement trees.
It Uplifts Developers’ Productivity
When your app has complicated logic and a single change in one component might have a significant impact on other components, frequent updates can become a hassle.
To combat this issue, Facebook has enhanced React with component reusability features.
Developers may reuse the same digital objects with React's component reusability.
Developers, for example, can start by adding simple components like buttons, text fields, and checkboxes, which are then moved to wrapper components, which are then pushed forward to the root component.
This strategy effectively enables better code maintenance and growth since each component in React has its own internal logic that is easy to alter. As a consequence, application development efficiency is increased.
It Offers Fast Rendering
When developing a complicated, high-load software, it's critical to specify the app's structure from the start because it might affect the app's performance.
To put it another way, the DOM model is structured in the form of a tree. As a result, a little change at a higher level layer might have a huge impact on the user interface of an application. To overcome this problem, Facebook has created a virtual DOM feature.
As the name implies, virtual DOM is a virtual representation of DOM that allows you to test any changes to the virtual DOM first and evaluate risks associated with each change.
As a consequence, this technique aids in the maintenance of excellent app performance and ensures a better user experience.
SEO-friendly
SEO is one of the important key to every online business's success. The faster an app's page load time and rendering speed are, the higher it will rank on Google, according to Moz.
React, as compared to other frameworks, considerably reduces website load time, which notably aids organisations in obtaining the top spot on Google's Search Engine Result Page.
It Includes a Variety of Important Development Tools.
Learning new technology and applying it to real-world activities may be fun and useful, but only if done correctly.
Facebook recognises this, which is why their React JS framework now includes much-needed React dev tools and Chrome dev tools.
These React tools are generally used by developers to locate child and parent components, observe component hierarchies, and analyse component state and attributes.
It Offer Better Code Stability
React employs downward data flow to ensure that modifications to its child structure have no impact on the parent structure.
Hence, a developer needs to do to update an object is adjust its states and make the appropriate adjustments.Only a single component will be changed in this manner.
The application's code is more reliable and operates more smoothly as a result of this data flow and structure.
Conclusion:
ReactJS is a simple, responsive JavaScript framework that can be used by both small and large businesses. Even in a high-traffic environment, scaling is simple.
