When I was a kid I thought Deanna Troi was so cool and awesome and smart and amazing and then as a teen I discovered people on the Internet think she's weak, useless, etc. and I was like "huh...yeah I guess they're right 🙁" but now I'm an adult and I realized actually I was right the first time, she's a stone cold badass and the haters just don't understand her like I do 😤

Girlie was the only (known) therapist to over 1k crew members, not only that but a diplomatic aid whose duty was to psychoanalyze all participants involved while accounting for cultural factors. She gave input on promotions, duty rosters, hell even flight plans if she thought the whole crew was unfit. Because she was so attuned to everyone, she also gave important information about crew morale to the captain (trust in the captain, attitudes toward mutiny, etc). Oh, and don’t forget emotional/cognitive testing of first contact species to see how socially/emotionally/cognitively advanced civilizations and individuals are.

That’s not even with her betazoid abilities taken into account. That’s just her normal job duties
