If you're going out to protest, please remember to wear a quality mask or respirator. We're still in a pandemic, and covid-19 is still transmissible outdoors, especially in large crowds like a protest.
It doesn't make any sense to advocate for people's livelihood just to unnecessarily set you and/or someone else up for long-term health issues or death.
(Sources: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5 -> a podcast episode from the Death Panel that goes into the misconception that covid-19 is non-transmissible outdoors & a link to the transcript for that episode)

These are covid awareness flyers that my friend Gem made, and I got their permission to share these here! The QR code on the top right of each flyer are the same, and they each link to a Google document named "How to Talk to Your Loved Ones About Covid".
The image descriptions are in the alt texts!
Reblogs are tremendously appreciated, and feel free to spread these flyers around wherever you can!
(Edited on 07/17/23) Additional commentary below the cut!
RE: Comparing covid to HIV in the third image:
Covid can be compared to HIV the sense of how it's being handled by the government (an ongoing pandemic that is talked about like a virus of the <insert whatever group they want to scapegoat or group that isn't cis/straight/able-bodied/white/etc.>, and then leaving those people to die). As well as how those viruses have the ability to attack the body in ways that are debilitating and life-threatening. "Covid is like airborne HIV" is meant to hit home how intrusive & permanent the effects of catching covid are (similar to HIV), in contrast to how many, many people think of covid as "just a flu".
I hope that makes sense!

A lil update from me. Sorry I disappeared all suddenly. I've just gotten sick recently, which got me to the point where it hurt to move a muscle in my body. Then it spiraled into me getting positive for covid which was a pain. But I'll just pop in and out of the internet and maybe try getting back into roleplaying if I'll be able to, just be aware to be careful out there people alright?

[Image description: A photograph of a page from a spiral-bound sketchbook. The page has an illustration of the covid-19 virus and overlaid text that reads, "If I die of Covid-19 - forget burial - just drop my body on the steps of the C.D.C." A caption on the bottom of the page reads, "Ren Basel 2024. In memory of David Wojnarowicz and everyone killed by AIDS, COVID-19, and the government's negligence. Fight back!" End description.]
In 1988, AIDS activist David Wojnarowicz was photographed in a now-famous image, wearing a jacket that read, "If I die of AIDS - forget burial - just drop my body on the steps of the F.D.A.." I am far from the only person to adapt Wojnarowicz's words to COVID-19, but today I am feeling especially angry at the world. Holding the rage in my chest hurts--it hurts so fucking much--so instead, I've put it on paper.
Living through government negligence and community indifference during COVID-19 in 2024 fills me with rage and grief in equal measure, and as a queer person who studies queer history, I can see the echoes of AIDS in the way marginalized communities are being left to die.
As a disabled person who lives in a household that is very high-risk for COVID-19, the C.D.C.'s recent decision to shorten the COVID-19 isolation period feels like a slap in the face.
COVID-19 is not over, and it is vital to take steps to protect yourself and others. Please, follow the work of the People's CDC, an organization dedicated to COVID-19 safety, activism, and education.
Our government has failed us. Our communities have failed us. For those of us who are immunocompromosed or otherwise high-risk, we only have each other.
Remember us. Fight with us. Mask up, get vaccinated, get boosted.
Please.

When a person belonging to a minority group says or does something bad, you are, of course, free to criticize them. But it still does not give you the right to be a bigot. Noah Schnapp sharing stupid, careless, and uninformed geopolitical opinions deserves to be called out, but it does not mean that you suddenly get to tell him that he should have been gassed by Hitler or killed by anti-Jewish hate groups or terrorists — both things I've read on Twitter and on Tumblr. It does not justify you calling him homophobic or antisemitic slurs.
"But he deserves it!" you argue. First of all, why do you think so? What makes it okay for any person to be given the green signal to get called slurs, or have people advocate for them to get hatecrimed? And more importantly, you are only signaling to your Jewish friends that you are actually capable of antisemitism. Same thing goes with your queer friends, or any friends belonging to a minority group. When you justify one form of bigotry, even to just one person — you justify all forms of bigotry.
So if you find yourself doing any of these, ask yourself why it's so easy to slip into bigoted rhetoric instead of simply focusing your criticism on what a person did/said.

tl;dr: covid is a vascular disease, not a respiratory illness. it can affect your blood and every organ in your body. every time you're reinfected, your chances of getting long covid increase.
avoid being infected. reduce the amount of viral load you're exposed to.
the gap between what the scientific community knows and ordinary people know is massive. collective action is needed.

Hey. If you're someone that's been trying their hardest to protect themself from catching covid and avoid spreading it, thank you; please keep it up & don't let your guard down no matter how tempting it is. If you live with people that are disregarding your concerns about covid, please stay strong and continue to keep your precautions up; you're absolutely doing the right thing and are not being unreasonable for not wanting to catch an extremely harmful virus. The holidays may be approaching, but please don't fall for the hype of everything seeming alright. Continue to protect yourself as well as other people that need you to protect them. Wear a quality, well-fitting mask. Make sure there's proper ventilation in the places you're in. Use your intuition and stay focused on prioritizing your safety & boundaries before anything else. Stay safe.

if i see one more person say something like “teachers are quitting because the kids are getting meaner, so parents need to learn how to discipline your kids” i’m going to fucking scream.
the kids are not getting meaner because they’re spoiled. the kids are not getting meaner because of gentle parenting. these are not spoiled children, they are traumatized children. these are trauma behaviors.
they have to go to school every day with the knowledge they might get shot up. almost four years ago people started dying and becoming disabled from COVID, it never stopped, and they’re told to ignore it. for all they know, the earth might become uninhabitable in their lifetimes, and they are powerless against all these things. they are traumatized. stop putting the blame on innocent kids and individual parents.

For people with long COVID or who are worried about how normalized COVID is becoming (less masking, CDC shortening the quarantine period, etc.): You may be interested in The Sick Times, a non-profit news organization covering the Long Covid crisis. They’re currently doing a matching fundraiser during Long Covid Awareness Month, so anything you donate will be doubled in March! Or just check them out/subscribe; they're doing really good and important work on something that isn't getting anywhere near the media coverage it deserves.
