Hot take but Percy Jackson actually isn't anything like Harry Potter and the reason they're popularly compared is due to the mass mischaracterization and misenterpretation that leads to sanatization of Percy to turn him into a more standard protagonist despite the whole point his character being that he's NOT normal while Harry's is that he IS and that made him into a very bland and lowkey passive aggressive bigot that's an awful example for kids while Percy is the perfect role model.Like let's look them over.Percy:

i’ve been wondering how did you go about characterizing Nanako and Mimiko?

i’m slowly going through your jujutsu kaisen fanfics, michikatsu has my heart, and I’m surprised how well you wrote nanako and mimiko in exponential growth so far.

were some of it headcannon? or did you come to those characterization conclusions based on what was shown in the manga?

Thank you for your nice words about my fanfics. Nanako and Mimiko were a pretty big reason for why I started wanting to write fanfic of jujutsu kaisen, because number one Geto's family is the most interesting thing about him as a character and how he contrasts with Gojo, and number two they're crimminally underutilized in canon. I also found their deaths unnecessarily gratuitous. It was a start of a long series of Gege wasting female characters.

Which is why I wanted to explore them more in fic, and also just explore the idea of Geto's found family. As for where I came up with the idea for their characters, I'll answer below the cut.

There were enough hints in canon about Nanako and Mimiko's cursed techniques that I was able to extrapolate what each of them did, voodoo dolls that force others to commit suicide and cursed photography. I also took a little inspiration from their character designs, Mimiko is obviously meant to be the dark / gloomy one, whereas Nanako dresses like a Gyaru. The fact that they're always near each other / clutching each other hints to a bit of a codependent relationship as well.

However, the rest of their characterization I basically had to make up. The biggest source of inspiration for them comes from Durara!! which is another urban fantasy series by Ryoga Narita, which deals with a bunch of supernatural creatures like dullahans, and vampires existing in an urban setting. I draw a lot of inspiration from Durarara!! because a big thing that Ryoga Narita writes well is having loads and loads of characters share screen time in a bigger story which is something I want to accomplish for Jujutsu Kaisen and it's huge cast. Especially since the aim of my fanfic series is to focus the spotlight more on the minor characters as opposed to the main trio.

Ryoga Narita is pretty famous for his eccentric characters, all of them are crazy in their own special way. One of the ways he manages to balance so many characters is each of them kind of has a gimmick or central concept they're based around. Mimiko and Nanako take a lot of inspiration from Izaya's little sisters, Mairu and Kurui.

Mairu and Kurui are based around the trop of "twins having opposite personalities", but it's a parody of that trope because they're doing it on purpose. Basically, the story is that when they were younger their older brother Izaya emotionally abused them by saying that if they were twins and the same person one of them should kill themselves because they had an extra. (Izaya is a lovely person by the way). They wanted to please their brother, so they decided to write all their personality traits down on a list and then divide them equally. Their theory is that by balancing out their strengths and weaknesses between each other they create the "ultimate human being."

Kurui decided to be the quiet one who's eccentric at school, like a Rei Ayanami expy, she wears her gym clothes to the middle of class and doesn't socialize with anoyone. Mairu decided to be the loud, attention hungry, eccentric one. She screams to everyone the first day of class that she's bisexual and willing to date multiple partners. When a bunch of girls try to bully her, she literally almost forces them to swallow thumb tacks. Kurui barely talks, and Mairu does all the speaking for her.

The twist is that they're intentionally doing that, it's an act for both of them. When they're texting people, or when they're in an online chatroom Kurui becomes the talkative one and writes in paragraphs, while Mairu gives one word responses. Which suggests that at any time they could just swap personalities. Both of them also consider themselves the same person, they want to date the same guys, and if they disagree on anything they have mental breakdowns.

So Nanako and Mimiko share the same central concept, but the thing is while I love Kurui and Mairu and their character concept is excellent they literally have no character development in the story they are in. They're never challenged over the fact that they are super codependent and can't exist without each other. They never really grow past the trauma of the emotional abuse that their brother inflcited on them. It seems like a subversion of the "twins with the same personalities" trope at first, but then they don't really go anywhere with it. Also, there's a lot of icky twin incest subtext between the two of them. They just legit kiss once because light novels are gross sometimes.

The closest the two of them get to character development is their relationship is the friendship both of them make with Aoba Kuronuma.

Aoba is a first year student introduced in the second half of the story, he's basically a foil for their older brother Izaya. He's like an Izaya who's less of a villain because he's younger and capable of making friends. A lot of his positive character traits come out in his relationship with the twins, because while he's a selfish user of people he tends to be really selfless and protective when it comes to them.

This could have been a jumping board for having the twins have separate identities, because they are both friends with him, but Aoba has romantic feelings for Kurui. However, they do the twin incest thing again because the first time Kurui isses Aoba, Mairu is like "I have to kiss everyone my sister kisses" and then kisses him immediately afterwards and says it's an indirect kiss with Mairu.

There's a sequel to Durarara! called, Durarara! SH!. The trio shows up in that novel, but the original plan for that series was to make Aoba the main character with the Kurui and Mairu as the other parts of the main trio. However, that was scrapped in favor of three new characters which I thought was a pretty big waste of their potential.

A lot of the things I wanted to see in the Aoba / Kurui / Mairu trio, I put into Exponential Growth for the Junpei / Mimiko / Nanako dynamic. Basically the whole idea that after meeting Junpei, Mimiko and Nanako's relationship can't remain the same because it used to be their whole world was just the two of them but there's suddenly this third person their own age they both want to socialize with. Also, the two of them can't both date him so he forces them to actually act like individuals.

My trajectory with Nanako and Mimiko comes from what I wanted from Kurui and Mairu which is this deconstruction of the idea that they're the same person, by separating them and forcing them to learn to be their own people. Also, the sheer amount of distress it would cause a pair of twins this codependent to be forced to separate and live on their own. Because they're at that time in adolescence where they're going through some major changes in personality so the coping mechanism that worked for them as kids is starting to break down.

The other major inspiration for them is Maki and Mai. The basic premise is that they have the opposite relationship that Maki and Mai do, but it's just as unhealthy. Maki and Mai are permanently separated from their childhood closeness, because Maki always pushes Mai away. Maki needs to assert herself as an individual. However, this need is so strong that she doesn't think she can have any kind of relationship because she views it as a chain dragging her down.

Whereas, Mimiko and Nanako have been clinging to each other since childhood. They have the relationship that Mai basically WANTS to have with Maki. However, Maki thinks they're utterly pathetic because they can't survive on their own and are entirely dependent on each other. Which is Maki's unhealthy and toxic ideal of strength. At the same time, Mimiko and Nanako think that Maki just plain hates Mai. They can't imagine a sister ever completely ignoring another sister and pushing her out of her life because they value family more than anything else. As unhealthy as they are, at least Mimiko and Nanako make it clear they both love each other.

There's also another foiling point where they are both equally bad at communication with one another. Mimiko and Nanako claim they're the same person, and share the same thoughts on everything but Mimiko is constantly bullied by Nanako. Nanako's extremely bossy and domineering in the relationship. However, it's enabled by Mimiko who's been depending on Nanako too much over the years to make all the decisions for them. They also talk a lot but rarely talk about their true feelings with one another and when they start to it turns into an argument.

On the other hand, Maki and Mai could probably clear up a lot of tension between them with ONE HONEST CONVERSATION, but neither of them are willing to do that.

WHY I THINK WILLIAM AFTON WASN'T A GOOD FATHER TO HIS KIDS (based on games)

I often see people claiming William was caring father to his children because he didn't intent to directly murder them. Or that he went crazy after CC died and because of grief he started "taking away" other people's children which I don't think makes sense since during fnaf 4 there's already rumors about haunted robots and CC is still alive. One could argue that then Elizabeth is already dead but it doesn't make sense even more since that means he build a murderous animatronics before he would even have a reason to "grief". He was just a psycho who while not keen on purposefully killing his own children also not caring about them too much.

If we belive Fredbear plush isn't haunted and is William talking to CC through a walkie-talkie then that's already pretty weird since the plush was kind of hostile towards everything and was usually talking "badly" about Micheal rightfully so but if it's William then why wouldn't he just try to make Mike stop if he cared about his younger son? And if we belive Fredbear plush is haunted and isn't William then still the fnaf 4 bedroom and "observation" was a thing and even though I belive both brothers were in there at least once it's still fucked up and nowhere in games is it called protection but just an observation (what kind of observation and for what?). William didn't care about CC's well being and him literally always crying.

Now let's look at his relationship with Elizabeth. He did make an anomatronic that was supposedly "just for her" (we know it's BS but he wouldn't tell his daughter she was made for child murder lol) and did tell her to not get near her so he did care about her to some extend, right? Yes but no. He didn't want her to be killed but once she eventually died and he noticed she possessed Circus Baby he didn't give a shit about her as a person. He then saw her as something he can experiment on. He did some experiments on her remnant. Most likely put some in the scooper. Perhaps other Funtime animatronics. Took some of her remnant away from her current body basically tearing her soul apart. And then as we know Circus Baby's pizza world was closed for a long time. There's no care for his daughter. The most he did was he sent Michael there after some years to "put her back together" and not even go himself. And speaking of Michael...

Michael was basically allowed to bully his brother, yes. But that doesn't mean William loved him. As I said earlier I think both brothers were tied to the fnaf 4 bedroom and because Michael has nightmares about that place he had to be there. Just further proving that William didn't care about his kids' feelings. If the "observation" was also some kind of experiment then there's no place for care. Then later in life when Michael was most likely and adult and the only living Afton child his father sent him to "save" Elizabeth (???). There's no way William wouldn't know that there's a huge possibility Mike would die. As long as he wasn't in danger himself. Eventually Mike gets Scooped and dies (kind of) and William is most likely already "missing" (as if springlocked) because Mike can't seem to find him and says that "he's going to find him".

I don't have much to say about them in fnaf 3 since springtrap doesn't talk there even if we think Mike is the night guard here but in FFPS he still doesn't seem to care. Not about Mike. Not about Liz since she still feels the need to "prove herself" to him.

Also I feel the need to address it that it's not an attack on people who make headcanons and AUs where William is a good dad. You do you. It's just my interpretation of how I think canon William would be like with his kids

TLDR; William was a narcissistic who didn't necessarily want to kill his own kids but didn't really care if something bad happened to them and would "sacrifice" if it meant something to gain for him.

Only Love - By Teng Luo Wei Zhi (6/10)

An immature yandere is hit or miss on a good day. On a bad day the concept is a snorefest. This is for younger readers. It's edgy, not scary. I don't think comics about possessive guys...specifically aimed at younger readers...are super ethical. I know there's a market for it, and there are worse things to read. No judgement. This is PG13.

Our conflicted, immature yandere is a rich boy with silver hair. His daddy owns a big real estate company. He gets away with...pretty serious crimes and he's a known delinquent. He treats his girlfriends like accessories. He doesn't actually date or kiss them. He literally picks whoever the prettiest girl in school is, and he lets that poor girl beg for the chance to be his future rich wife.

He's...an evil bratty snot who owns a motorcycle.

His main goal in the story is to seduce our protagonist, Meng. She's a tough nut. She's been through alot. She was actually recently murdered. The plot takes place during her second life. Meng had it pretty hard in her first life. She...was kind of a doormat and she let her adopted sister bully her. Her mom is super dead for real, so she was a good girl always for the sake of her hardworking adopted dad.

Ren falls madly in love with her in both of her lives, which is a problem.

Meng's adopted sister is an inferiority complex. Her entire character is defined by how inferior she feels. The worst part of this story is...the way the other characters treat her. Lan is an immature, bratty girl. She's not very pretty. She's not very talented, and Meng is good at everything. She's in love with Ren. Ren makes fun of her and he calls her ugly. Then he starts to stalk Meng. The girl Lan is most envious of. I hate to say it but Lan is young. It is not fair that she's stuck as a villain. Based on what I've seen I would go crazy if I was her. Eventually she becomes a stereotypical crazy character, but if I was in high school...and everybody would not shut up about how ugly I am...and how perfect my sister is...ugh.

Lan murderd Meng in her first life. It was brutal. She was on a cliff looking for their lost little brother. Lan loses it and starts wailing about how Meng stole everything from her and....uh...she kinda did??? Lan's biological father loves Meng more than her. Ren loves Meng, not her. Meng's friends treat her like a nuisance, and on top of that Lan consistently gets bullied for "daring to covet" a handsome rich guy she isn't "worthy of"

Young readers. Please beware messages like this. Plain girls or ugly girls or stupid girls do not have to be villains. Perfection should never be the goal when you're a teenager. Being...not model hot at fifteen isn't a cardinal sin.

Just...be careful.

When Meng's second life kicks off Ren has a girlfriend...toy. He ignores her and she constantly brags about being chosen by him. Please. Do not date anyone who acts like this. It is an excuse to cheat on you. No girl should be a back up for any guy. I don't care how rich he is.

Shen here viciously bullies Lan, and frankly she's a big reason why Lan develops into a thin skinned envy monster.

Meng's mom died in a crash, and she was left with severe head trauma. She has to suffer with abysmal vision, and light sensitivity for many years. Eventually she gets better, but she has to wear glasses.

Yes.

She is the most beautiful girl in school. She's beautiful enough to be a model. She's a dutiful girl who did not deserve to die...but she's an adult in a child's body.

Um....

Ren's personality is...this...

This sums him up.

He doesn't know Meng is pretty, but he gets interested anyway. Meng is too calm. Too cold. Unaffected by his cash and his face. He falls for her, but he gets embarrassed about it, because she clearly doesn't like him.

Also Meng hits him with her walking stick when he tries to touch her.

Good.

He does actually start to respect her after this point.

Ren begins to act unstable. A bunch of his toady friends call Meng ugly. In response he breaks up with his girlfriend and he almost beats up some of his closest friends. He approaches her slowly. Money won't work...and he loves the hunt.

He is a confirmed yandere. In his first life he committed murder, possibly for her sake. He is definitely not sane, but the main couple isn't very likeable here.

tbh it always fucks me up how nobody ever mentions stan and fords other brother. shermie. why does nobody talk about him. in both canon and fanon he gets so little attention its possible to just. not notice him. hes so completely Unacknowledged it drives me NUTS and i know he only exists so that the family tree works out and so they didnt have to make it so that stan or ford have ever canonically felt the touch of a woman but im still obsessed with him. it feels like a graggle simpson situation but hes literally a real character. the entire story is about siblings and caring about them and stuff yet stan and ford have this older brother who we never see on screen and whos only mentioned once. ever. where was he when stan and ford were getting bullied. shermie could be anywhere from a year older than stan and ford to a decade older (you have no idea how much math i just had to do to come to that vague ass conclusion about shermies age). why dont they mention him? why does nobody seem to care?? people only know he exists when that existence is mandatory for things to make sense. i feel like im going crazy do you understand me is this thing on

Sometimes people talk about Shermie. @eregyrn-falls is a very diligent tagger, and you could comb through her shermie pines tag if you wanted to find more of him

As for being older than Stan and Ford, the fandoms split on this one. Some people (me included) consider this baby to be Shermie

Which would make him significantly younger than Stan and Ford (and also has unfortunate double mid teen pregnancy implications, but I think the show didnt really think that one through)

Some other people consider it to be Shermie's baby, with him being older than his brothers like you said. Various reasons I've seen for why he's not around in that case include being military/getting drafted, or being significantly older than the twins.

Personally, I got a brother whos a decade older than me. When there's that much of an age gap theres a lot of times you dont see each other and a lot of stuff you just dont know about each other. He definitely never knew about any of my childhood bullies. So if Shermie's that much older, him not being in the story much makes sense to me.

1. Fav characters besides Lum and Ataru ?? Aaaaa I would have to go with the big three:

RAN: she’s so fockin funny and her personality switch up is my fav and not to mention her character design is BEAUTIFUL like I feel like if you saw a pic of Ran without knowing any of the characters you would think she’s the main protagonist

SHINOBU: it’s crazy how Shinobu was originally the main character alongside Ataru before Lum was (I know she was robbed from the spotlight and her man but STILL) and I love how insane hers and Lum’s rivalry was like holy shit I felt so bad for Shinobu. But as the series progressed I’m glad the two became friends and the awkward tension between the three characters died down (Shinobu, Lum, and Ataru). I also luv how much of a sweet heart and has such a gentle voice, but could flip a bus if she needed to AND be beating TF out of men 10x her size.

2. Okay funniest moments aaaaaa I would say there’s too many to count but I think one would be the time where Lum was training to fight this bully without her powers to prove to a underclassmen like “you can do anything if you put your mind to it.” And Lum arm wrestles Ataru and just completely fails and when Mendo gets a turn she just SHOCKS THE SHIT OUTTA HIM

Another would be the time with the gossiping flowers, and everyone thinks Mendo wet the bed when he was younger when it was actually Lum and she just LEAVES HIM OUT TO DRY AND TAKE THE BLAME. Wait now that I realize it these are just when Mendo gets hurt by Lum, I PROMISE I DONT DISLIKE MENDO AT ALL IT’S JUST FUNNY

3. Moments I’m most excited for the show, look I know Urusei Yatsura isn’t only about Atalum and I like the episodes we’re getting but CMONNN. WE’RE GETTING SO MUCH ATALUM CENTERED EPISODES AND IM SO SO SO EXCITED IM EATING PLYWOOD. Particularly very happy to see the Inaba arc (finally Shinobu gets a good man even though it’s kinda rushed) and the Boy Meets Girl ending AAAAAAAAA IDC IF ITS THE SAME SCENES WE’VE SEEN TWICE ALREADY IM ENJOYING EVERY MINUTE OF IT.

So as some of u probably know, I hc Ortega as disabled . specifically, I hc him with juvenile arthritis . I saw that baton in the canon games and saw him leaning on it like a cane and took that and ran with it lol . to me he’s 100% a mobility aid user, who often needs a cane at the least but also uses crutches and wheelchairs on worse pain days . his friends of course are very supportive and respectfully make sure he’s ok, but I also hc ortega does NOT like being babied .

Ortega is hinted at to have relied on his parents / his parents money in the past . so from that I hc that as a younger child and before Team Star, Ortega was a very spoiled child who would run to his parents whenever something happened . his parents were probably the coddling and “throw money at the problem” people, so when Ortega started having problems their money couldn’t instantly fix, they didn’t know what to do and just left him hanging . Ortega never learned to deal with his problems head on, so when he started getting bullied ( and realized his parents couldn’t just fix it ) he had no idea what to do . Because of being small, he was 100% seen as an easy target for bullying, even physically . I think a big reason he’s got such a defensive / standoffish attitude is because he couldn’t solve his problems with fighting physically so he had to adapt and instead learn to verbally deal with bullies .

Also, from all of this, Ortega has grown to strongly dislike what he sees as coddling . he wants to grow and be his own person, and doesn’t want to be a spoiled brat anymore. However, this leaks into his perception of coddling vs offering genuine help and can sometimes get defensive when offered any help at all . He sometimes refuses to accept help, not out of ego, but out of fear that he’s being seen as a child or he’s being a bad person .

Ortega definitely doesn’t want his parents company . He has no interest in business, and his parents probably push it onto him especially since he started acting out with Team Star . I think he’d wanna pursue engineering more than anything .

i never really got why ppl say having diabetes, asthma, needing glasses, and having eczema didn't count as being disabled anymore since they're too commonplace and they're 'normal' and people 'live w them' all the time. western doctors couldn't help me w my eczema and skin conditions and i was literally physically abused for suffering them. i would get my legs fully covered in hives, have to take oatmeal baths, and because doctors don't care about children w disabling eczema, i also had to rely on chinese medicine like eating turtles and snake gall bladder which is pretty much illegal/taboo in canada. many times, other children and adults thought i was being abused and tortured due to how bad the eczema was but not because of any real abuse i was facing. sometimes i would be going to school with my entire inner arm w out skin and wet w like blood and stuff. and a teacher helper would always comment about how the classroom smelled like a morgue and it was because of me. gym teachers were also very unkind about certain activities triggering flare ups because it's not like i can use an inhaler or anything.

also my brother and sister needed glasses since middle school, and because my mom is an immigrant she didn't know eye tests are free for children in canada so they didn't get properly tested until they took drivers ed. my brother still doesn't wear glasses because he says he doesn't need them despite not being able to read properly (and being able to afford it now) and my sister was finally able to get glasses and update prescriptions because she's younger and now she's in uni.

also we use the crappier prescription for my grandpa's diabetes because it's affordable so he's still not 'normal' like before me and my sister bullied my family into getting him to use prescription drugs they were convinced it would pass if they heavily controlled his diet and he started going blind....

OH HELL YA

1. Emmet is terrified of ghosts and Ingo is terrified of bugs and they only tolerate each other’s Chandelure and Galvantula because they’ve been around since the dawn of time. I like to think that when Ingo started his journey with a Litewick, Emmet got back at him by catching a Joltik, then later as adults Emmet played off it more by mass breeding it when it was a Galvantula. Ingo doesn’t mind it so much anymore but other bug types still creep him out if he’s forced to closely interact with them. Emmet jumps out of his skin at ghost types when he’s not battling them, but Chandelure can sit on his head and he’ll be fine! (They have been known to jump into each other’s arms or throw the other one at the bug/ghost if one were to appear without mental preparation…)

2. As children, Emmet favored the color black more than Ingo, and Ingo had an eye for the lighter/vibrant colors more. However, after their journey ended, Emmet developed to be more of a clean freak while Ingo sorted his thoughts better through controlled chaos. This led to them deciding to swap colors for work purposes, being that white for Emmet was easier to bleach and clean rather than black so he could get down and dirty with the subway and trains (and so he had the appearance of the cleaner twin). Ingo (though harder for anyone besides Emmet to understand his thought process) took more lead in the runnings of the subway. He was hardly overwhelmed by the never ending issues that came with the subway and angry visitors, and his thought process worked like a literal twisty-turny-train track that leads to multiple different outcomes. He can pinpoint quickly what the best and safest course of action should be, whether it be crazy or confusing to other people. He does, however, appear friendlier and has better outward communication skills than Emmet. Emmet does say things that are easier to understand than Ingo, though he comes off as harsh and blunt to get the point across.

3. Ingo and Emmet are related by blood to Drayden, their father/mother being Drayden’s sibling or something. I like the idea of Drayden raising them a portion of their lives, but I don’t know what I like most to get them to this outcome. Perhaps their parents are alive but live in a different region, or perhaps they aren’t around anymore, or maybe their parents are divorced and chose poor paths in life, leaving the twins incapable of living with them. Possibilities are endless!

4. Emmet’s a flirt, especially when he was younger, but it immediately flip flops to socially awkward if the flirting actually works. He’s very kind and careful but does things without thinking in attempt to handle the situation. Ingo has no flirting skills at all and despite having people approach him romantically he is completely oblivious and unintentionally friend-zones everyone around him. He has tried to date before but he overthinks things and tends to overwhelm people with gifts or compliments or how loud his voice gets when he’s flustered.

5. Elesa was a bully to them as a child. She was also being bullied and took it out on them when she could tell they were more awkward than her. However, as time went on, they began to form a more healthy rivalry, that soon turned into friendship when they witnessed Elesa get bullied by her friends or others. They took pity on her instead of hating her, and Elesa grew the confidence to stand up for herself and them. They’ve been besties ever since 💚

"I don't understand why you didn't leave earlier", i hear Brad through the phone and i roll my eyes

"Because some of us attend uni, unlike others, Bradley dropout Simpson", i turn the wheel to the right to exit my driveway and a wave of laughter fills the phone speaker.

"Anyway, you bully", Brad addresses to me and i turn my head to look at Tris who was already looking at me, both of us laughing. "Give us a heads up when you're half an hour away from the villa so we'd get started on the barbecue. We're gonna get the party started till then.", we bye bye Brad and Tris hangs up, taking control of the road trip playlist.

The band agreed on having a fun get-together in the mountains, just them and their closest friends, including me. Tris and i have met when i moved to London for my high school years, where i stay to also finish college. Even tho I'm a bit younger than him, he's always told me how mature i am and how maturely i think. With time we got closer and he trusted me enough to introduce me to the boys. "You've got to be kidding me"

"Oh my God, no way", Tris says as he lets down the window to check if he can see the tire. I pull on the side of the road, curious other drivers checking on us. "Oh fuck, it's literally sliced", he points to a pocket made in the tire. "Who even told you a Mustang's tires are good for off-road?"

"Tristan, please shut up. This is not off road, this is fucking Waze shortcut. I didn't know these villages had so many undone roads", i massage my forehead. As if it wasn't bad enough already, we both feel raindrops on our exposed arms. "Oh fuck off", i say in vain, as Tris opens the trunk to take the spare tire and the jack.

"We better hurry then. Please help me", Tris gets on the ground, setting up the jack under the car. He starts lifting the car, when the rain starts pouring in gallons. Our clothes get soaked in a matter of seconds and as we hurry to get the part of the car with the flat tire up, the jack snaps in half. One hour. It couldn't be a good road for one more hour. I check the weather, my mind going crazy when i see the weather warnings, massive storms and lightning storms for the next 12 hours. I close the app and check my WhatsApp massages, distracting myself from Tristan's conversation. I open the group chat and see silly photos and videos of our friends drinking and cooking and what they're cooking is a mystery because that doesn't look like food. A vocal message comes in from James and i listen to it, chuckling.

I sigh heavily and look outside the window, the rain looking like I'm at a car wash. We let the others know we can no longer make it tonight and none of them can help because they've been drinking and because of the weather. We take our luggages, i tie the reflective vest somewhere on the car so people wouldn't hit it and we run towards the hotel, barely seeing in front of us.

"I'm sorry, but we don't have enough rooms because of the storm. Everyone came running here, just like you. We only have one double room, with a king sized bed. Will you take it?", the receptionist checks on her computer and Tris and i exchange some looks before accepting the booking.

We go to our room, immediately taking hot showers one by one and changing into our pjs. I throw myself on the bed, watching Tristan walk around the room, the wind howling at the windows. He's just as agitated as me, but he actually shows it. He bites his fingers, nervously checking his phone.

"What are you expecting to happen?", i ask him when i can no longer watch him spin around the room.

"A miracle?", he jokes and i half smile at him, my eyes falling on my lap, where i nervously play with my fingers. "Hey look at me", he sits at the end of the bed and leans back on his elbows to look at me. I do as instructed and i can barely keep my eyes on his. I shake my head, blushing, looking away. "That's better", he smiles and let's himself fall on the bed, resting one of his hands on my knee because of the lack of space between us. I don't remember getting a crush on Tristan, i just remember always having him by my side and always being a gentleman with me. He was my only friend for a while and i guess, with time, we got inevitably closer and maybe this is how i started getting butterflies whenever i saw him, but i always ignored those growing feelings. ok this will be long bcuz i have So Much going on but for context my obxverse, dog days of summer, is canon divergent bcuz i know better than the pates 😌

starting with our main character my favorite special little guy, edgar ramirez

he's deeply tragic (family trauma up to his eyeballs) but he's just a little lover boy!! his family owns a church in the cut, saint lucia's, and he gets wrapped up in the plot bcuz he has huuuge crush on jj, and then ends up in a secret relationship with him <3

in the later seasons, things get very complicated for him romantically (it's a whole thing, rafe is involved) and his faith is tested and he's just overall not having a good time </3

but he survives bcuz his heart is full of love

next we have nova morales!

edgar's complete opposite fgdgf she's the biggest hater girl in the obx!

her plot revolves around her issues with her family – her mother left her and her father about a year before s1 to start a new family on the figure 8 with a kook guy – and how that bleeds into her relationships with everyone around her

she's possessive and loyal but hates change and people trying to worm their way into her found family

she's a kie love interest and their very much enemies to lovers they cannot stand each other!!

next we have mikey caswell

his main plot is that he has no personality or interests of his own and just has no idea who he is <\3 bcuz of that he gets into a situationship with rafe (in his eyes they're dating, in rafes eyes they're just hooking up And he's using him to get close to edgar, it's a whole thing)

prior to s1, he was adopted by a kook family and the pogues feel like he abandoned them, and he honestly kinda did, so he's also trying to get back on their good sides!

also he's a john b love interest

next (again) is mags báez

mags is Also a pogue turned kook, but she moved when she was wayyy younger than mikey, around five years old, bcuz her dad got rich through computer shit

she's edgar's best friend, though they don't see each other much, and novas step sister thru marriage (it was her dad that novas mom left them for – im sure you can imagine how this might strain their relationship)

she's dating kelce in s1 and her story is about her coming to terms with her lesbianism and also trying to shed her people pleaser tendencies

she's a sarah love interest and she and her and kie are involved in a homoerotic girl best friend to enemies love triangle though none of them will call it that

they moved to kildare at the beginning of the summer with their family and are trying to get accustomed to kook life which is hard when everyone around u is insane

he accidentally becomes friendly with rafe, topper and kelce, which is bad for a variety of reasons but mostly bcuz they bully them All The Time and basically haze them, it's a mess

they're a pope love interest and are just a little smitten kitten with him

last but not least! stella feng & lennon yang

they're minor characters but i love them!!

stella is a pogue, lennon is a kook, can i make it anymore obvious?

they have a star crossed lovers plot in the background!

also stella is a drug dealer & lennon is rafes only female friend! they're very normal and sane!

Ninten ninten ninten!!!

So this is my version of Ninten haha

God I literally cannot draw him 80% of the time so it's nice to actually have one turn out good (it's so hard to not accidentally make him look really stupid or really obnoxious ><)

He's pretty much entirely based off what I came up with in my head after playing the game and thinking about how I imagined the characters' personalities, so it's pretty different from the usual takes on him

Design details and a flood of headcanons below :D

So I wanted him to be very distinct from Ness!! There's similarities like the black hair and the clothing palettes, but otherwise nobody would look at my Ninten and Ness and confuse them for each other

Personality-wise holy fudge do I have a ton of stuff on him

He does have a hat but I only sometimes draw him with it (unlike Ness who refuses to go anywhere without it :3)

His overall shape is wayyy different to Ness's, very scrawny and straight while Ness is all round and squishy

Shirt's blue with a yellow collar, a single yellow stripe on the middle, and yellow edges to the sleeves

He looks a lot like his great grandmother ;)

and also pee-wee herman but that's not as profound

Ninten is a bright and relentlessly optimistic young boy from rural Eagleland

You can call him Pollyanna, say he's crazy as a loon, but he believes in silver linings and that's why he believes in you :)

So my main thing with how I imagine Ninten is that he's, like, almost the sole source of light in the story. How I see the rest of the world is super drab and bleak, pretty much everyone just perpetually down in the dumps (i'll get into this more when I make posts about the other characters!!) And then this kid shows up, and he's full of hope and compassion, and he makes everyone he meets start to realize "maybe everything isn't so bad after all…?" No wonder the final boss is literally the ultimate case of repressed feelings and angst lol

He started showing psychic abilities from a pretty early age, making friends with animals and moving small objects with his mind

He mostly gets his love of baseball from his Dad, but because he's forced to work away from home almost all the time, Ninten's Mom practices with him and takes him to games instead

He has two much younger sisters, Minnie and Mimmie (half-baked headcanon that her name's actually Mimi and she just doesn't know how to pronounce it XD) who cares about a lot, and he often ends up looking after them whenever their Mom's out

He's a pretty great babysitter because of this, takes a lot of babysitting jobs around town, and he's a huge mom friend to the party

Of course he loves penguins too :3

Mostly listens to cheesy upbeat pop songs and rock music, but there's not really any music he actively dislikes

Favorite video games? Uhhh he's more outdoorsy and physically active but he'd like casual retro stuff like the first Mario

He's not super popular at school, because he's the weird buck-toothed dweeby kid who never shuts up about hope and optimism and penguins, but he's not unpopular at least. The bullies learned pretty quick not to mess with him, and DEFINITELY not to mess with anyone else when he's around!!

He's super friendly and prefers to solve things peacefully but he will absolutely not hesitate to clobber a jerk upside the head with his bat

He owns his own tuxedo that he likes to wear at "formal events" (birthday parties and school picture days)

yeah he's a real goober

He never lets up in his hope but god did the Mountain and everything that happened after take their toll on him

I don't have anything on him during the events of Earthbound haha, as far as I'm concerned he was taking a well-deserved nap and that adventure was all Ness's

I also don't connect him at all to Ness, the only bridge between the stories in my mind is Giygas
