Texting Tactics: 3 Steps to Spark a Meaningful Conversation with Your Crush
Tumblr media
Texting has become an essential part of modern dating and can be a powerful tool for building connections with someone you're interested in. However, initiating a meaningful conversation with your crush can sometimes feel daunting.
How can you grab their attention, foster a genuine connection, and keep the conversation flowing? In this article, we will explore three steps that can help you navigate the world of texting and make a lasting impression on your crush.
Step 1: Piquing His Interest
The first step to sparking a meaningful conversation with your crush is to grab their attention right from the start. An intriguing opener can make them curious and eager to engage in a conversation with you. Here are some tips to pique his interest:
1.1 Grabbing his attention with an intriguing opener:
Avoid generic greetings and instead, opt for something unique and attention-grabbing.
Incorporate elements of mystery or surprise to make him want to know more.
Tailor your opening message based on his interests or recent experiences to show that you've been paying attention.
1.2 Injecting humor and playfulness into your messages:
Humor can be a powerful tool to create a relaxed and enjoyable conversation.
Use light-hearted jokes or playful banter to create a positive atmosphere.
Remember to be yourself and let your natural sense of humor shine through.
1.3 Asking open-ended questions that encourage thoughtful responses:
Open-ended questions prompt your crush to provide more than a simple yes or no answer.
Ask questions that delve into his passions, hobbies, or opinions.
Show genuine curiosity and actively listen to his responses.
Step 2: Building Connection
Building a connection with your crush is crucial for the conversation to evolve into something more meaningful. This step involves showing genuine interest in his life, sharing personal stories, and fostering intimacy.
Let's explore how to accomplish this:
2.1 Showing genuine interest in his life and experiences:
Ask about his day, his interests, or his goals to demonstrate that you care about what matters to him.
Show empathy and support when he shares something personal or challenging.
Remember details from previous conversations to make him feel valued and understood.
2.2 Sharing personal stories and experiences to foster intimacy:
Opening up about your own life can create a sense of vulnerability and trust.
Share stories that showcase your personality, values, and passions.
Encourage him to share his own experiences by relating them to your own.
2.3 Engaging in active listening and responding empathetically:
Actively listen to what he says, showing genuine interest and attention.
Respond with empathy and understanding, acknowledging his feelings and thoughts.
Avoid dominating the conversation and give him space to express himself.
Step 3: Creating Momentum
To keep the conversation alive and meaningful, it's essential to create momentum and keep things engaging. This step involves adding value to the conversation with interesting topics, suggesting future plans or activities, and balancing the conversation dynamics.
Let's dive deeper into these strategies:
3.1 Adding value to the conversation with interesting topics:
Discuss current events, shared hobbies, or mutual interests to keep the conversation engaging.
Share interesting articles, videos, or other media that you think he might enjoy.
Be open to learning from each other and exploring new topics together.
3.2 Suggesting future plans or activities to keep the interaction going:
Propose casual activities, such as grabbing a coffee or trying out a new restaurant together.
Plan virtual activities like watching a movie simultaneously or playing an online game together.
By suggesting future plans or activities, you show your crush that you're interested in spending more time with them and deepening your connection.
3.3 Balancing the conversation by allowing him to contribute and take the lead:
It's important to create a balanced conversation where both of you have equal opportunities to share and lead the discussion.
Give him space to express his thoughts, ideas, and opinions without interrupting or dominating the conversation.
Show genuine curiosity in his perspective and encourage him to take the lead in steering the conversation towards topics of his interest.
Conclusion
Initiating a meaningful text conversation with your crush doesn't have to be an overwhelming task. By following these three steps, you can spark a connection that goes beyond casual small talk and creates a foundation for a deeper relationship.
Remember to pique his interest with an intriguing opener, build a genuine connection by showing interest and sharing personal stories, and create momentum by adding value and suggesting future plans. Ultimately, be yourself, stay confident, and let the conversation flow naturally.

Ten years later, I'm still in awe of what the BBC show Merlin managed to pull off. It's a silly show. It's cheesy, over the top fantasy full of dumb gags and physical comedy. It's the most compelling tragedy I've ever experienced

In reference to the last ask you posted! Do you mind going over your tips on role-playing as that active-type character and/or digging up the thread of conversation it seems the original asker was referring to? I'm so interested in your experience role-playing for both prep in possibly joining a game someday and also bc it sounds like such good character creation and general writing advice!!!! I tried checking you blog but didnt turn up anything that touched pn it more (No worries if not though!)
Sorry for this late response!
My advice is make characters that create opportunities for story.
Reacting to a story is fun! Reacting to a character is fun! But if you're always reacting then you're creating opportunity for other characters to react, so sometimes you gotta Act to let the other characters and the story React.
To do this, characters should all want something. And not something vague (like "to be happy"), it should be something more tangible, more specific, and everything else can stem from there. It'll guide your character naturally. It's their Motivation.
More under the cut (or skip to the end for more standard advice)
For example, my dnd character Dandelion wanted more than anything to go home. "Going home" meant a lot of things, yeah it means being happy, it means he wants to be with his family, it means he wants to be loved, it means he wants to feel safe, it means he wants to belong somewhere, but the tangible idea is "go home."
Because I knew this is what he wanted most of all it guided all his actions, and his actions for better or for worse all made sense because of it (and I made it clear that was what he wanted "on-screen" on multiple occasions). So anything that involved the idea of getting home would activate him, and he'd also deeply empathize with anyone and anything else away from home/away from family. Giving him one strong, clear motivation instantly made him an active participant in the story. This made him active with other characters too, any mention of home, any mention of family, any idea of not belonging, it drew him toward them.
(as a DM now this is also what I need more than anything, what's your hook? how can I tempt you? how can I make your character move forward? how can I make your character react? also characters that create opportunity for story take a LOT of work off the DM's shoulders in my experience, it shows you're engaged and it feels less like dragging a cat around on a leash haha like "are you enjoying this? do you want this? i don't know! please give me something!")
my more standard advice?
Be a good listener
Be present (in the moment)
Be curious
Be the biggest fan of all the characters
Put your story on-screen frequently, give people the opportunity to react to it and join in on it (this can be as simple as "my character's body language changes at the mention of 'home')
Create opportunities for the other characters to have their story on-screen (ask them questions! if you know what the character's buttons are and it makes sense in the moment, press them! listen to what they're saying, pay attention to what they're doing, and react to it)
Interact with the world! Interact with each other! And make these things mean something to your character!
Your character should make mistakes. Mistakes create opportunity for everyone.
If there's a genre, or theme, play toward them earnestly.
The more you RP, the better you'll get at it! It's a process and that's okay!
my little tip for knowing whether your character is Active vs Reactive: if the story were a musical, do they have an I Want song? do they have multiple moments for songs within the narrative? have they shared a duet with another character? do their songs change, evolve? songs happen for important moments in a musical so if you're not contributing to important moments, it may mean you're reacting more than you're acting. which is fine if you're playing a game solo and are granted access to the narrative by virtue of being the designated main character, but because RPing is collaborative storytelling, everyone should be doing their part!

Just wanted to say that your characters feel like real people in the best possible way! I really enjoy reading the snippets of lore you post about them.
(and also, your art style is beautiful - it's extremely recognizable, unique, and makes the graphic designer part of my brain very very happy)
That's so nice to hear, thank you!

So I need to have two cosplays done by November 1st
One for my mom which is going to be a Link cosplay but red since she loves red and hates green. I need to modify a shirt for the tunic, make the hat and also make some props. I think it's pretty doable
Now for myself, I actually don't know which option I want to try and make/finish: Octavia Goetia, Charlie Morningstar's battle attire, Verosika Mayday or Alastor
Gonna ramble a bit about each cosplans I have and what I currently have and what I need to do/buy/etc
Tumblr media
So let's start with Octavia! I was going to wear her last year, but I unfortunately ended up having sewing machine issues. I still don't know what the issue is or how to fix it, but the only thing I need to do is finish sewing the dress and paint the stars on!
Currently, my dress is just basted stitch together? So not very well held together and the fabric is rather stretchy so I'd need to learn a new sewing technique that will probably be a bit time consuming to master to a satisfactory level. I do also need to make a few tiny adjustments to the neck and taking it in here and there and technically also add the sleeves..? Though I can probably omit that for now since the cardigan (?) I'm gonna use is a full long sleeve one. Oh! And also the necklace!
I also planned to use my real hair for this since I unfortunately do not have the arda Stevie in black that I was planning to use since my effing ex wife never returned it to me even though I told him to return all of my stuff and it's discontinued so I can't buy the one wig that I really adored anymore
Anyway
I also actually got Stolas' grimoir to use as a prop but never ended up using it. I'm also not making the tail for now. That'd be a future upgrade thing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next cosplay I could make is Verosika Mayday! I was finally able to find the perfect coat to modify for her! I just need to shorten it and technically remake the sleeves..? But the sleeves are fine actually, I can leave it as is for now
As for the outfit, I actually plan to crochet it since I just do not have the space to work with fabric and with my disability, crocheting is just so much easier on my body imo
I'm not sure which outfit I want to make though... I will need to buy yarn regardless. I think the white and black one would be easier because it's just a tube for the most part though I do worry a bit about stretch making the fit a bit difficult to figure out.. Also she wears a pair of sunglasses with this outfit which would be pretty neat if I can make like fake little clip ons to wear over my prescription lenses since I'm pretty blind so it'd be nice if I can keep my glasses on all the time (I know I can, I just personally would like to be accurate and take em off for pictures and such)
I personally think the second outfit is cuter but I don't want to have to put my wig in a ponytail again. Oh! I do in fact have a wig for this, it's just pretty tangled at the moment
Tumblr media
And next, Charlie Morningstar!
I do have a wig I can probably use for her. It's a bit darker than I'd like and has a bangless middle part..? So I'd need to fix that. I have some ideas on how to go about that though I could also just try to resew the wefts in if it doesn't work. I also curled it previously so it's a bit of work
The outfit I actually should have enough red yarn though I do want to try and do something different, like a little corset thingy in a darker red to help break things up a bit, add a bit more visual interest so I'd probably have to buy that. And I'll definitely need to buy black yarn for the gloves and leg warmers
I do actually have a pattern in mind that I found a while back so I wouldn't be doing this completely blind. I also actually bought some shoes specifically for this cosplay! Oh, and speaking of which, I can also use these shoes for the second Verosika outfit. Maybe with a pair of white thigh high socks and I can just attach some criss cross X's over it..? If I don't have time for anything else?
Oh and Charlie does have a spear and a shield! I can definitely make the spear. I actually have a wip for Alastor's mic and I thankfully made it so that the mic piece is removable so I can easily swap it for Charlie's or even Vaggie's spear (I also have an almost complete closet cosplay of Vaggie, just need a wig, eye patch and bow. Also to find my skirt for it...)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And finally Alastor! Specifically maybe his Valentine outfits
I do have the hot topic Alastor coat but I don't want to wear that to a con. Especially since I'm only going for one day. I want my outfit to be a bit more special and I don't have the time to figure out his regular outfit
As for the valentine outfits, I actually specifically bought a bunch of yarn to make myself a pair of shorts similar to his 2025 (the left one) pants just because and realized I could also just use it for cosplay and not just daily wear
And also bought a bunch of dress shirts in different colors specifically for Alastor, though the red one I have is a bit on the wider side... The rest of the fit is fine, it's just weirdly wide but hopefully the coat will hide that and if not, I can either try to modify it or dye an extra white shirt I bought just in case. I do also have a black dress shirt, a red vest albeit with no stripes and a black bow tie that I can use for the other Valentine's outfit! I would need to buy suspenders, a red bow tie for the first one and dress pants for the second one, and in general honestly. Probably gloves too
I'd once again just crochet the coat. I don't know how yet, but I need to figure it out regardless for my amigurumi that's been waiting for me to finish...
And the staff I mentioned, it's almost done honestly. Mostly just need to be finished sanding and smoothing it out, also need to add the eye and then paint it
And the wig. Hoo boy. I actually have two wigs that I plan to splice together so it's gonna be a lot of work. And one wig is one that I had previously dyed and that unfortunately ended up staining last time I wore it... So I need to figure out that issue. Maybe just wash it again? And maybe dye it a bit more..? I don't remember if the red is to my liking for Alastor. And basically it's gonna be a lot of work
Though...
Though actually..
I just had a thought
I actually bought a green vest for Alastor. Specifically to try and do a Christmas festive version
And I am attending this con on November 1st
The day after Halloween
What if
What if I show up as Christmas Alastor actually?
I could then just focus on completing the staff and styling the wig and buying some dress pants
Oh! What if, assuming I have time, I also make this coat?
Tumblr media
Oh, this would be so stupid, I think I might do it honestly. Maybe I can even try to invest in some LEDs or something. What if I also manage to get those uh Christmas string wreath things..? garland to wrap around the staff or something? Can I get a glowing nose as well? God, this would be so stupid. I think Alastor would approve
But I dunno, if anyone read this far, I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions
And for reference, last year I made a last minute Eevee closet cosplay for my mom and my sewing machine stopped working so I ended up going as fem Human Alastor last year (it was supposed to be an Alastor inspired outfit that ended up just being Alastor). Also I don't have much actual hands on experience (I've mainly made props before), but I do have like 10+ years of accumulated general cosplay knowledge because broke and disabled

What has been the most interesting are the ways in which the universe yields to you when you declare to yourself and the world that you are an artist and mean it.
When things seem down, you keep creating, when things are good, you keep creating. You do this to show the universe that you are indeed the artist you say you are. After a while, in the most unexpected times, the god momentum which has taken over starts attracting people, resources, ideas 💡, and muses.
You begin to create things you never thought were possible. You find out how strong you are made and how resilient you truly are. You realize though, that that strength, and endless flowing of creative ideas comes from the original declaration. “I AM AN ARTIST” This declaration mixed with consistent creation everyday is where the alchemy flows and where the magic is made. It is what makes the shuffling back and forth from the conscious to subconscious realms possible.

Fyi I've ended up rewriting a large majority of the plotline of Red red red, why am I not dead? during the hiatus, so there's a chance of some plot holes/inconsistencies between newer chapters and old ones that may happen due to this. :/

i guess i just have to remember sometimes that basically art and writing is less about sporadically being possessed by creative spirit and more about practicing and honing in on a skill. im art blocked and writer blocked all the time so its very rare for that creative spirit to just hit me. yknow. i need to be more methodical about it i suppose.
