two more squares for the blanket! :) both of them (mostly) done with 100% pima cotton yarn by Lana Grossa, and a 3.5mm hook. more on patterns and yarn under the read more!
i have not mentioned this before, but all the patterns i have used so far for this blanket are 100% free on either ravelry or youtube!
square 1: this is Abagail by Diana Krenz. I skipped the last few rows for the square border and again added the splendid serendipity border, once i had a semi matching stitch count (technically i need 39 when i do the v-stitches, but i can also make do with 38, 40 or 41). i made this whole thing in a day, the petals are so easy to crochet!
yarn is Lana Grossa Cotonella, in color 003 for the inner part of the square, and color 002 for the outer border. I had both of these left over from the other squares i had done before and i thought they worked nicely together:) the inner little circle is a bit wonky because i didn’t cut the yarn so you can see the little chain i made to the next round, but it doesn’t really bother me.
square 2: Imagine by Polly Plum. I skipped one or two of the last few rounds for squaring up, and as with all the other squares, gave it that gorgeous shell bobble border!
The inner square is the same color as for square 1 (Lana Grossa Cotonella 003), just the other way around! the border was done with Drops Loves You 7 color 03 (cream) and color 08 (purple grey), and some left over Lana Grossa Cotonella color 009.

finished object time!!!! :]
i made this continuous granny square blanket using about 3 lion brand mandala cakes (i believe in the colorways dragon, kraken, and sphinx, except i cut out the red of sphinx). was a lovely project for sitting and watching movies (nausicaä of the valley of the wind, star trek: the motion picture, and star trek II: the wrath of khan) and mindlessly crocheting :)
it's a bit smaller than i hoped (3'x3') but it's a great lap blanket and accent on my bed!! i've already started another continous granny square blanket, but just using stash yarn and changing color every row.
i loved watching the colors flow in this, even though they get a bit choppy by the end. i love the little quirks in this blanket so much, was very fun and comforting to work on :) plus it's a nice light weight for springtime!!
[ID:
Five photos of a crocheted continuous granny square blanket. The yarn colors blend into each other as the blanket grows. The colors consist of brown, greens, blues, teals, and yellows. Four photos are of the blanket folded, and one is me holding it up full-size. ]

aaaand three more for the blanket. these were SO fun to make and adapt! i added the shell/bobble border from splendid serendipity on all of them to match my other two squares! for all three of these squares i used Lana Grossa Cotonella with a 3.5 crochet hook. :)
more details on what patterns these are under the read more!
square 1:
this is Tropical Delight (i followed the video tutorial by It’s all in a Nutshell Crochet but there’s a written pattern!) that i did until i think round 10. I skipped some decorative slip stitch rounds because once again I challenged myself with not cutting the yarn and doing the inner square in one color. For this one i was extremely lucky, the amount of stitches at the end of the round i stopped on matched the amount of stitches for the v-stitch round of splendid serendipity perfectly.
i used Lana Grossa Cotonella in color 009 (100% pima cotton) and added some Drops Safran and Drops Loves You 100% cotton yarn in between because i wanted some color contrast. the difference in texture is somewhat noticeable but i really don’t mind!
square 2:
this is The Blooming Lotus Square by Sisters in Stitch (written pattern) which is so so sos so osososo gorgeous. I finished all rounds on the flower but ended early on the actual square the flower is sorta appliquéd to. i actually ended up missing some cluster stitches on one of the inner petals, but it’s not noticeable at all! this one also required some creative freedom on where to place my v-stitches because i cannot count apparently.
again Lana Grossa Cotonella yarn, in color 003. i bought this one twice because i wanted to use parts of it for square 3, but ended up scrapping that plan, which meant i could work on both the flower and the back square simultaneously without cutting the yarn again, because i’m silly like that. i did end up cutting a large chunk of pink out, because it looked very newborn baby blanket and i didn’t quite like that.
square 3:
this is the Octagram Kaleidoscope Block by Debi Dearest. I did some fuckery on this one. I had to square it up earlier than the pattern and so i just adapted some of the squaring up stitches from splendid serendipity and.. added my own nonsense. I wouldn’t be able to replicate it lol. It was extremely fun but in hindsight it might have been smarter to copy the corners from tropical delight, would have been less of a pain in my ass probably. the inner part ended up slightly too big in comparison to the other squares i’ve done, so i had to go down on stitch height for the border, while still keeping the same amount of stitches as all the other squares. It’s still a slightly bit bigger, but that doesn’t matter as long as stitch count matches :)
For this one i used the rest of the yarn from square 1 (Lana Grossa Cotonella color 009) and then did some fun transplanting with Cotonella color 002 in the squaring up corners. it worked out really really well, and i love the intense effect the red/purple border has!

Theo is supervising the assembly of the afghan. Two squares left!! But I’ve only woven in the ends of 9 squares so far, so even after making these last couple squares I’ve got soooo many ends to weave in before actually starting to sew stuff together. After this there’s a nice thick border of mostly cream colored yarn, and some interesting textures. I know the border will take forever now that the project is this big, but I’m so excited to be done with the squares and see it come together.
