Seppucrow Homestucktober 2023, Day 8: Sprite

Sometimes I think about how God Tier Jade is an

ascended sprite, and yet she no longer retains the

sprites memory of how the game works. Meaning

she has escaped the fate of doomed sprites within

the game. The only way for a sprite to survive the

game seems to be to reach God Tier by merging with

a dream self and killing the main self. Another thing

is, if god tier Jade touched an unprototyped sprite

she wouldinstantly become a sprite ^2 due to being

a sprite herself. Also, I find it somewhat funny how

the Jade we follow for the rest of the story is the

ascended form of dream Jade, as with all the other

god tiers except the alpha kids. The Jade we follow is

the one who was more irrational and afraid than

original Jade. The Jade in the rest of the story is the

one that got brought back from the dream bubbles,

and cried for a long time to main Jade. The one who

prototyped crowsprite, sacrificed herself to save

John, didn’t know about sburb, and was more aloof

and silly. No wonder she has a relationship with

Davesprite, since she can relate to him due to being a

sprite herself once.

CROW OF TIME: CHAPTER 3 CSCSs and Hcs

CONCEPT:

There isn't much to talk about in here, currently.

SCRAPS:

Again, nothing much to talk about here. Oh wait, there is.

Crowsprite should have a flashback detailing their death, where the whole incident was detailed. However, I do not think it will fit for their current headspace at this point, and so the part was entirely scrapped. Don't worry, there will be deeper elaborations, but not at their perspective.

In other things, Crowsprite should also be observing how the place down the apartment burns into chaos, with people fleeing from meteors and screams flailing in the air. Again, it kinda brings the focus away from the main point of the chapter, so off we go

Commentary:

I've decided to show a sneak peak on what kind of knowledge sprites actually held, at least to my headcanon. After all, as a game guide, shouldn't their sprite minds be screaming at them about how some equipment worked?

Anyways, in other places we go. Crowsprite has a fractured mind, not really being able to focus unless push comes to shove and danger is at their doorstep. You'll see that flaw become significant soon, and also their self-sacrificial tendencies.

At the same time, I decided to switch up how the egg artifact breaks to (vaguely) parallel it with some future events. There IS a reason why I described the 'bird' which came out of it to be comparable to a phoenix :)

last-SECOND ADDITIONS:

daydreamSanctum wasn't meant to show up this early in the story, but I decided to throw in a sneak peak of their antics for fun. Dont spoil if you figured out who they are ;)

Also, they don't fully use They/Them pronouns—just that Im using it to shield their identity.

Headcanons:

• Sprites have inteicate knowledge about EVERYTHING within SBURB, including possible glitches, equipment tips, and even a few secrets. However, they have some sort of mental 'lock' that prevents them from accessing more delicate info, and these info only releases when it was deemed necessary. How? Nobody knows, it just happens.

• All Striders have a form of photophobia (the light sensitivity, not the fear).

• All crows in Houston, Texas have names that are just descriptors. Crowsprite in their hayday had given some nicknames that are remembered to this day—and the nickname process is repeated across the next generations

• In the same vein, ONLY crows are the last Earth species to survive from the end of the world due to many of them being within the Striders' apartment—especially in COT, where they basically took over a few rooms.

so normally the king scepters are set up to only prototype their kings

but i think in some cases that line of code doesn't work and you get a usurper king

I think its possible but would need to be situationally important. What I mean by this is that anyone can pick up the King's Scepter and begin the Reckoning, but as we see it doesn't cause prototyping. When prototyping sprites, the sprite takes its personality from the objects used. There is the caveat, however, that they also may form a personality (or at least some quirks) based off what the player associates with that object. For example if you threw in some dead stray animal the sprite may be operating on its personality but mainly its animalistic intuitions. Meanwhile, if you threw in your dead pet that you have a deep, meaningful connection with the sprite will likely be more affectionate towards the player due to the association you have with it (ex Jaspersprite vs Crowsprite). So for a usurper king to arise I feel it is similar in stance. Anyone can kill the King and take the Scepter, but if someone makes a deal with the King before hand, leads a revolt/election for power/democracy, or otherwise makes the duel official, I believe that any Carapacian can arise to King level power. This is also in part based off how all the Carapacians on the Battlefield are cloned so I mean any of them can theoretically become anything.

Future Dave then gave Present Dave all his advanced gear, and prototyped the Crowsprite with himself to make Davesprite, thus serving as his own guide from the future.

Before going back in time, Future Dave convinced Future Rose to go to sleep. He suggested her dream self would be unaltered by the timeline shift, and in her dream state she would remember the events from the future. When Dave went back, Rose's future dream self assumed the position of Rose's present dream self. Rose fell asleep, and on Derse's moon, she instantly woke up. She then saw all the genetic scrawlings she did in MEOW letters, and understood their meaning.

Meanwhile on Derse below, the Black Queen again insisted that Jack Noir abide by the dress code. He refused, and the queen threatened him. He picked up Jade's package to John, removed what was inside, and used it to slice her ring finger off. He then killed the Black Queen, put on the ring, and donned the full upgrade supplied by the three prototypings.

He then became Jackspers Noirlecrow, which is a name I just made up now.

I personally think that's actually pretty unclear, since the very idea of doomed timelines wasn't fully fleshed out by then. The actual first diverging point we can pinpoint is the conversation in which Dave talks to John about prototyping Calsprite, since Alternate Future Dave throws himself into Crowsprite to prevent it from happening.

No matter what I think it's pretty indisputable that the Dave we meet at the beginning of the comic goes on to become Alternate Future Dave, and the Dave we follow after that is the Main Timeline Dave that we haven't actually met by that point.

This is a sign you've forgotten huge chunks of the story and should re-read Homestuck.
