It felt like ages since the last time he saw Cloud. Voicemail after voicemail after voicemail and none of them seemed to entice his... companion out from wherever he was hiding.

In truth, at some point he decided that perhaps his approach wasn't working. Cloud clearly needed some space and bothering him all the time didn't help. So, he did the next best thing.

"Hey Cloud," he said to the voicemail box once more, "I know you're listening to this. It makes this easier.

"I'm not going to call as much anymore."

Zack took a breath, shaking voice hopefully not picked up by the microphone. He hated doing this. He hated doing this so much more than anything before. But he had to. For Cloud's sake.

"I'm not giving up on you, but I can tell when you need your space. I'll check in every so often. I promise not to annoy you, though. I just... want you to know I'm here for you. Whenever you're ready, you know where I am."

Another breath.

"I miss you."

He hung up the phone.

as i've gotten older, it's gotten rarer to find fics that make me feel 13 again with how invested i get in them, but lord of death hill has given me that pure sense of nostalgia combined with the fresher joy i've found in more recent interests such as the gothic elements similar to my fav book frankenstein, which obviously re-animator already strongly resembles but your fic takes it to the next level by embracing the intentionally historical, gothic feel. i just want you to know how much i love it and how refreshing it is! your writing is genuinely some of my favourite of all time, so just thank you for doing what you do. in the past, this genre of fic wouldn't be my cup of tea but you've managed to do it perfectly and i'm happy to expand my tastes and become more open to new kinds of story and au :^)

It's definitely not as popular as The Couple Down the Street was while I was writing it and I guess it's because the setting and tone are a bit more niche but the people who have read it seem to really like it and that makes me so happy! Frankenstein is also a favourite of mine and though Herbert is less morally conflicted about his activities than Victor, I do love the DRAMA that comes with gothic stories.

Attuma and reader who is a little bit anxious? He’s a man of few words but he picks up on reader’s energy, and when she’s feeling anxious he just takes full control: asks her what she needs, if she wants space or if she wants him to hold her or sit on his lap, if she wants to talk about what’s wrong, etc.

As an anxious person, this brings me comfort because there’s nothing better than to have someone that is just there for you 🥺 I honestly don’t need a lot, even if he doesn’t know what to do, just his presence there gives me great comfort
