not surprised to see kiddraws123 mentioned here. They were bothering me and other users for CS trades in toyhouse when none of them were even available at all. They would stalk the tag of whatever cs they are obsessed with at the moment and comment on the character or user's profile for it, offering art or resale.

Because, like, it's easy to just dump them in complete AU, but I mean actual story translation?

Cause obviously the Reds and Blues would be newbie player, or at least they'd be casuals who don't play very often or obsessed with a certain game/genre but not actually very good at it.

And Freelancers would be more pro-players, like Wash did e-sports but he's not really into it, he's good, but he'd rather be having fun with friends than games-as-work.

Carolina's still chasing her father's approval and her mother's shadow by being the top of the gamer world, (her mother Allison was an e-sports superstar, and a top ranker in twenty MMORPGs).

Meanwhile, Director Church has created one of the worlds first full dive Virtual Reality MMOs, and he did it all while trying to figure out a way to un-vegetable his wife, who suffered brain death years ago when trying out another company's first attempts at full dive technology.

Director is convinced if he can just learn enough about brains in simulations, he can use the data that was saved from his wife's dives and put her back to rights.

So he created the game, and it's supposed to be the best game ever, incorporating all Allison's favourite things.

But there's a catch, in order for Director to get the data he needs, the game has to be running non-stop for A While. Specifically, the players need to be playing non-stop for A While.

So he's trapped them in the game with the threat of death looming over them.

There's probably something hidden in the T&Cs of the user agreement so everyone who logs on legally agrees to this shit, but no one reads the T&Cs, so they have no idea. They all genuinely believe they'll die in real life if they die in the game, and the only way to get out is to clear it. Like, even Carolina doesn't know.

The AI overlord Operating System of the game is FILSS/Sheila.

I was thinking (alpha) Church as Carolina's IRL brother who followed their dad into computer programming, but then it (the Chex) would be weird when the Allison Data that Director puts into the game develops its own personality (Beta). So maybe he's just part of the operating systems, on of several AIs running around low key maintaining the game and adding/manifesting new missions and materials based on their interactions with the users to ensure the game is meeting everyone's skill level.

He just sort of joins the Blues and pretends to be a human player.

Man I hope Director is paying the players to be there. He'd probably only pay minimum wage. Has a hospital set up for long term monitoring of players, and Aiden is going to have a field day with the research into what this kind of shit does to people's minds.

Lopez as a Bot that gains sapience/sentience.

It takes Griff months to find out his sister is in the game. (she "just wanted to spend time with him, but holy shit bro have you seen-")

Tucker accidentally hatches some kind of demon creature and tames it, it thinks Tucker is its mother. He names it Junior.

The Freelancers are the Front Line players, making the push towards clearing the game (possibly all of them were beta players for the game?), but somehow the Reds and Blues are actually some of the most powerful players even though they mostly just stand around talking, and getting into side-quest shenanigans.

Sarge is actually Simmons and Griff's shop teacher who is determined to look out for his students in the most tsundere way possible. Donut doesn't take shop class, he does home ec, but he knows them from Simmons' brief attempts at being on the school baseball team.

The Reds and Blues (minus Sarge) are all teenagers now, probably seniors, who go to the same school. (Wash is supposed to be in collage getting ready to graduate but e-sports got in the way, Carolina is younger than him but older than the Reds and Blues.)

Butch Flowers is the home ec teacher, (or/alos a computer science teacher) he and Sarge have a one sided rivalry that got passed onto their teams.

Tucker used to be on the baseball team, but he's currently suspended for reasons that probably weren't actually his fault, but no one knows what it actually is because Tucker like encouraging the rumours, since they're hilarious.

Caboose just wanted to make friends and have fun, and now the cool kids are hanging out with him and he made a Best Friend called Church and he doesn't have to go home at all!

Doc is either a first year medical student who doesn't have time for this!!! or Donut's boyfriend the others have never met because he goes to a different school.

Is the game sci-fi guns blazing or high fantasy swords and sorcery?

I don't know, irrelevant.

The reason Church is still bad at shooting things though is because as an AI he can make himself as powerful as he wants to be, and no-selling his shots is FILSS's way of smacking him with a rolled up news paper.

726587678743805952 re: rarities question--from what i understand it's based mostly on the complaints from the Quitting CS thread, where a lot of people pointed out that it was hard to understand the current rarity system as a new user or navigate trading because the current system is too broad. imo a new rarity system won't really help at the end of the day b/c everyone is obsessed with having the same 3 pets from 2008 but i do think it will make it easier for new users doing low-key trading.

idk if you’re still mutuals with them but I thought I’d check just in case. Sugarandmemories/ scepterno has been drawing a lot of suggestive material abt underage characters, both alone in suggestive poses and also in romantic circumstances w adult characters. They’re also like, incredibly unapologetic about it. I quote they’re “pro-ship”. They’ve worked in Carmen Sandiego which makes me especially nervous since ik they’ve been obsessed with Player. Idk I know you’re a good person with strong morals relating to activism and I just thought you’d want to distance yourself from this person.

No i am FULLY aware of the shit Nick is into and I have unfollowed him everywhere. I keep track of his new users so I can avoid him and I no longer interact with him.

I unfortunately was aquitances with him and had a few convos and interactions with him since I really looked up to his art, but as soon as I found out about his underage nsfw and his blatant disregard for minors’ wellbeing online, I unfollowed and made sure to tell other people as well. Im honestly sickened by the fact that I wanted to be his friend and hoped that he would interact with my art and also that he still works on one of my favorite shows (Carmen Sandiego), and its honestly one of the reasons I havent drawn much for CS despite keeping up with it. He’s literally the reason why I figured out my trauma with internet culture runs much deeper than I thought, and also why im trying to be more openly against this type of behavior and ideology online (pro-shipping).

I was tagged by @optomisticgirl Thank you! I really enjoyed reading your answers to these. I love learning knew things about my mutuals. 

1. Why did you choose your url?

Well, it was already my url on Ao3, and luckily, it wasn’t taken yet. The reason behind it is actually something I was talking about in a discord chat the other day. I was obsessed as a kid with stories about finding secret passages, doors, and portals to other worlds. (The Narnia books, The Secret Garden, Alice in Wonderland, stuff like that.) My grandmother, we called her MoMo because it’s the South and we call our grandparents crazy things, lived in a really old house. It was fun to explore it, especially the wardrobes (because like most old houses, hers didn’t have closets). Another time, we (me, my sister, and my cousins) decided to dig a hole to Wonderland in MoMo’s yard with sand shovels. When she caught us, we thought we were in trouble, but she just went and got her garden shovel and said, “here, this will work better.” That’s one of my favorite memories of her. 

Anyways, so that’s where I got my url from. As it says on my Ao3 account, “If I keep searching wardrobes, maybe one day I’ll find Narnia.” It seemed fitting for writing fanfic about a fantasy tv show.

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?

@teamhook kept bugging me to on Ao3, haha. I also found out that a story I wrote was nominated for a fanfic award, but I didn’t know until after voting was over because I wasn’t on tumblr. And it felt like everyone knew everyone else in the CS fandom except for me, so finally I caved and started my blog. I was a little late to the party, but oh well. It’s been fun nevertheless!

6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?

Shameless self promotion, lol. It’s the cover of my second self-published novel. It’s also really pretty (I didn’t design it, so I can say that!)

7. Why did you choose your header?

My husband bought me a journal that said “Dreamer, Writer, Storyteller,” and I loved that! So first, my header was a just a photo of the journal’s cover. Then I noticed you could make tumblr headers on Canva, so I made one. I look nothing like that girl running (I wish!), but the colors fit with my icon. She also reminds me of Chloe, the main character in my first novel, and Emma Swan, so . . . it works? Canva’s tumblr headers aren’t really sized right, however, so there’s annoying white space on either side if you’re in desktop mode. Canva needs to fix that! Otherwise, I love the way it looks. 

8. What’s your post with the most notes?

How the heck do you figure THAT out? I seriously looked through my stats, and I can not for the life of me see where it tells me this information. So yeah, I have no idea.

There’s this anti/Pineapple on ao3 that’s been making anti fic for B/C (but I think it’s for B and E but they are using Bell and Cs names, I mean their username kind of says it all..)and tagging them but the chapters are basically the person writing about Bells death in different ways/versions in a troll way, and I try to avoid them when they update but I decided to look at the recent chapter out of curiosity and they basically were trying to describe their own narrative on why E (but uses Cs name) posted the photo wirh ABC a while back and it’s kind of disturbing because they end the chapter with “C” killing “Bell” but technically you know it’s B... so they made a “fic” where they kill a real life person with the real life persons wife, but try to pawn it off as fictional characters.. (also I’m sure you wouldn’t but please don’t tag this with anything that they can see, I think they want the attention and probably look to see if they are making noise. This is why I never comment on it cause they want people to get upset.. it’s terrible.) it’s truly scary though that someone does this with their time.. this person needs help tbh. Like it’s baffling...😳

Okay I’m the Nonnie that talked about that anti/pineapple use on a03 in the bellarke tag (literally leave ao3 bellarke ff alone... keep your ship wars and weird obsession with hating B and E out of my fanfic world) I just learned how to block that person out of the bellarke tag and I wanted to share it with anyone who may know what user I’m talking about and doesn’t know how to get rid of them. I'm so tired of the toxic culture around OCs on TH or DA. 

If you don't "use" (which what does this even MEAN how can you tell if a character is being used or not just by looking at their profile on a CHARACTER STORAGE SITE LMAOOO) enough and have too many you're a hoarder. If you trade too frequently you're seen as a "bad" or "unstable" home (lol), it's like with some people you literally cannot win if you're not obviously using your characters enough to them. I don't understand why people are so concerned with the way others use their own OCs they RIGHTFULLY own. Who cares if someone puts up every character they own for trade frequently? Who cares if someone has 14 pages of OCs on TH with empty profiles? Why are you so concerned with how someone else uses characters THEY own? You literally have no say in it! You shouldn't care, you have no right to care or get involved emotionally in a character you have no right to care about! (And yes, this includes characters you design and then trade away. If you get attached to characters you create then don't trade them. It's that easy!) I just don't get. it. On DA/TH the adopt and CS communities FUNCTION as collection/interaction based communities (whether they were originally supposed to function like this is irrelevant, that is the system it is CURRENTLY). If you put a bunch of people who own the same thing (characters, or in species' cases, the same species) then inevitably there's going to be a trade/barter system borne out of it. Trading is an essential part of collection based communities. Trading is an essential part of CS/Adopt communities; they cannot function without them at this point. As long as people are executing proper trade etiquette and following artist AND species TOS, what the fuck problem is there with trading frequently? What problem is there with hoarding? You don't have any claim over OCs you do not own; therefore emotionally investing in them is not a privilege you possess.

I really just think some users in these communities need to take a step back and really think about why they care so much. Maybe go outside a little, practice getting involved in a new hobby. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but characters aren't real. Characters =/= their stories. Stories are real. Personalities are real. The digital files you have sitting in your TH or on your sta.sh are not real. They don't care if they switch hands and they don't care how frequently either. The artist isn't being disrespected because their design gets traded a lot. The character has already been fucking paid for, the artist has been properly compensated, whether in a trade or buying and most of the time, these characters are created to be bought/sold/change hands at the time of their conception. 

I've seen users in these communities post thousand word journals about how offended they are people don't know how to be "good homes" to characters and basically taking a misguided moral high ground like hoarding or frequently trading ocs somehow actually reflects on your character (hint: it doesn't). I've seen users in these communities post passive-aggressive statuses on DA about how people don't appreciate their characters anymore because they trade so frequently and it discourages them like they have the right to get emotionally invested in characters they don't own lol. Like do you understand how infuriating this is to see? This community is so obsessed with policing the way other people use their characters and it's exhausting. 

If you don't like to trade characters that's fine! If you like to trade characters that's also fine! If you hoard OCs I support you!! If you've had the same 5 ocs for 20 years and have written six novels about them that's incredible and I love you. Don't you see the beauty in these communities is connecting with other like-minded people and enjoying the community in a diverse way that still allows connection? That's what community should be about. That's what this community should be about: enjoying our OCs, connecting with each other, and having fun. How each person in these communities uses their OCs should be up to the fucking individual. As long as you're not being gross or breaking T.O.S. you should not be concerned with how much someone appears to use their OCs.  I'm not saying you have to like trading characters yourself, but I really hope as a community we can move on from shaming people for how they use OCs they RIGHTFULLY own and got through official (i.e. not stealing or w/e) means and just.... let people be. Frequent traders aren't hurting anyone. Hoarders aren't hurting anyone.

I love wonderland. I’m so glad we got to explore it in ouatiw. I would have loved to have explored Tilly’s Wonderland too! It looked like it consisted of loads of mazes, which is what I’ve always associated Wonderland with.

I don’t think Cora would ever kill Regina. Her legacy means to much to her. When she said, “And then I’ll rip her heart out,” I think she meant to control Regina. I could be wrong but she just seems so obsessed with her daughter.

If I lived in the EF and had the choice, despite there being evil sorcerers about who could rip out my heart and control or kill me, I’d still choose to keep my heart in my chest. I’d want to feel everything. I’d want to be able to love.

I forget how much Regina loves her mother, and honestly I get it. Sometimes mother’s can be awful and violent to you and yet you can still love them. It’s so unhealthy I know, but sometimes you just can’t stop yourself, especially when they have a loving side. It’s weird how that happens. And it explains why she took everything out on Snow. She couldn’t bring herself to truly hate her mother.

I don’t understand how Cora can be so obsessed with one daughter and not even spare a thought for the other just because of who their fathers were? Actually, I wouldn’t even be surprised if she had another kid with Rumple at some point who she discarded. Yes, I am still mad about it but I still love Cora!

So is Storybrooke like an altered copy of the EF? I’ve always thought of it as the same place brought from the EF but that can’t be true as both exist at the same time. Storybrooke has the T®oll bridge, the forest and the well that seems to contain the waters of Lake Nostos.
