This is a 3D print of a forest Shrine model that I found on Colts 3d. The original file was too small, so I scaled it up to 200% so it would be more compatible with 28 mm miniatures. My son gave it I complement, remarking that it reminded him of something from a Studio Ghibli film.
And every ancient Shrine needs a powerful Guardian so beware the guardian five-headed goose hydra!

✦ If you're a fan of Ai Yazawa and her work I have a little something something for you.
Gokinjo Monogatari and Paradise Kiss are in absolute my favourite work when talking about the anime/manga world and I especially love the fashion aspect about them, like the Happy berry brand and logo, it's so cute, I even have a little bag that I use sparingly because I fear that it will break and I will not be able to find another one again, since I bought it at least ten years ago...
So I whipped out my tabled, opened Nomad sculpt and made the little berry with wings with a hole passing through, so that it can be made into a necklace or earrings!
Look around through my design, maybe you'll find something else related to the Yazawa's world and a famous designer linked to the fashion in her stories ✦

Finished Soul Gem holder with the first set of gems, which were very instructional. I ended up wet-sanding the gems, and on reflection, should have cleaned out the exposed tiny bubbles that had picked up resin dust (they're all a smattering of tiny white dots now) with a toothbrush before applying clear-coat. I applied clear-coat because there were some spots in the gems which clearly did not fully cure and I did not want any continuous oozing; I don't know if this will fix the issue but we'll see (they are solid enough).
Also, the clear-coat tells you that you can handle them after an hour, but next time I'm going to let it go for far longer (when flipping them over, the still not-totally-hard clear-coat would stick to the platform, which also had clear-coat on it, so it made little pools of opaque stuff that I had to sand off).
Other lesson learned, besides "do not reuse your sanding paper; just throw it away and move to a new sheet" (thank you Adam Savage): sanding sucks and you should move heaven and earth to make sure you have to do as little of it as possible.
With respect to bubbles: the Better Half insists it's possible to pour resin with no bubbles whatsoever (he's seen videos of "perfect pours", but cynical me suspects there's some off-screen shenanigans going on). But not only am I new at this, I'm also probably not making it easier by adding crushed mica sheets to the resin. I did pour #2 yesterday and am waiting to see if my technique improved (mixed much less color, mixed a much greater quantity of resin, mixed the parts together slowly for longer, overpoured the mold, etc). But I'm thinking that if I were doing this regularly, I might go the cheater's route and use technology (a vacuum chamber) because honestly, I don't think I have the time to perfect a no-bubble manual pour.

Heads.
Elcid the dragon kid has 2 heads - Regular and Sleeping. We also want to make for him at least one more head. He is going to be released on Cults3d on Friday January 12th. If you have a FDM 3d printer, you can buy STL files and print it at home in filaments and colors you like. We're going to tell more about his flexibility in the next publication )

I've been working on a ton of 3D-printable Gundam kits as well. Mostly focused on stuff that is not likely to get a proper plastic model from Bandai, but Witch from Mercury dropped some amazing designs that I had to jump on and model for the community. All in HG scale and more on the way too 😁
You can grab the files for all of these kits right now at both my Etsy and Cults3D shops. And if you don't have access to a 3D printer but want something printed, just message me and we'll work something out!
These files are for personal use only, so please don't share or sell the files or prints you make around. Like any other kind of art, that hurts the artist (me) and keeps the fairly small 3D-printed gunpla community from flourishing.

Astral Express from Honkai Star Rail

Here's a first look at my print of the Astral Express from Hoyoverse's latest game, Honkai Star Rail. I've just finished sculpting the Engine of the train and given it a quick print on my Elegoo Mars 3 Pro.

It's just shy of 10m polygons and contains all the details and decals usually lost in the texture for 3D printing. The mesh was recreated by hand to smoothen the surfaces and chamfer those edges and get everything printing nice and clean. It's also a bit of a beast, sitting at over 55cm end-to-end!

The initial print revealed some flaws in my original design. One thing I've noticed is that my current choice of resin (Elegoo 8k Water Washable) seems to warp a little too easily on curing. Flatter parts of the print warped towards the back a little, so I reinforced them in the STLs. I also added some internal supports to some of the thinner tubing and accessories towards the front of the engine. They were pretty solid, but I just wanted to make sure they held well, given how brittle resin can be. I also realised there needed to be some way to connect the front of the engine to the cylinder/revolver part, so added in some insets for the final mesh that aren't in my print.
The cylinder for the revolver is a separate mesh. This has the nice bonus of allowing that part of the model to spin freely. It's not functional (would be great to add some kind of lights and internal stepper motor to get it spinning by itself) but it's kinda cool.

I also experimented with 'contact spheres' for this point. Small spherical meshes that go between the support and the print (hoping to reduce damage when removing supports). Have to say I'm not convinced at the moment that they help any. It leaves little nodules on EVERY support point and they still create pocket if you snip off the blob. Sanding does give a cleaner finish but it's hard to sand these little spheres as they catch and tear the sandpaper. Perhaps I need to toy with the contact size a little more.

If you want to try printing this yourself you can now find the STLs over on my new MyMiniFactory or my new Cults3D pages. There's lots on the page for free but you can use the code blaketoys50 for 50% off! Be sure to dig around the page as you can find both the engine and the carriage parts.

What else would you want to see from #hoyoverse's universe? Any particular games or prints you'd be excited to have on your shelf? Feel free to comment!
