(ETA: Once they get found out, people are positive they fuck on the bar at Yuxuan after-hours, because they’re both so weird about the restaurant that it certainly must turn them on. No one can ever catch them at it. This is because of course neither of them would actually ever even imagine breaking the sanctity of Yuxuan, so they never actually fuck there. Everywhere else, it’s impossible to get them to keep their hands off each other, though. They are single-minded, about whatever that happens to be about at any particular moment. No two people have ever moved in tandem the way they manage. The girls - and some of the boys - on the Yuxuan team sigh over how perfectly matched they are, how everything they do is like a dance. Also, the two of them constantly roleplay that night Da Mai was out drinking beer and eating street stall food with other staff, and Xiao Pa showed up, and Da Mai had to coax him  seduce him  coax him into his orbit. It’s like a first time, every time, when Da Mai manages to lure him in and feed him before escorting him home, this time, to make sure he gets there “safe.”)

(ETA 2: One of the most charming things about Xiao Pa is the way his little sweatshirt paws - when he pulls his sleeves down over his hands while he’s in civvies - contrast with the neat lines and perfect cut of his uniform tuxedo. This is quite possibly the root of Da Mai’s constant drive to get him ruffled - lit. and fig. - and mussed up.)

Comparable to: The Perfect Match (Taiwanese drama) ; Pleasantly Surprised (Taiwanese drama); My Lovely Sam Soon (kdrama)

At first this drama is very engaging and well executed in let’s say the fist 12 episodes and just like a lot of other dramas it falls completely apart, especially towards the ending where I felt it was completely rushed. Which is funny, considering it’s a 40 episodes drama. It definitely wasn’t well edited. It felt like where certain situations should of been condensed, weren’t and the ones that needed to be addressed were only glossed over. Nevertheless if you a huge foodie the food in this is exquisite. It’s a huge highlight. The romance was meh and it has nothing to do with the age difference. It has to do with the writing. Both actors has excellent chemistry together but the way it led up to it was a total let down. It was one of those last minute flirting, flirting, will they won’t they, next minute boom in love, then the end type of deals. It’s still a decent drama just wouldn’t recommend it for the romance bit.

STILL working my way through Cupid’s Kitchen, almost at the end, in Ep 37, coming up on the final cooking confrontation.

A few things:

I almost stopped watching when I realized they’d dubbed over Wang Zhuocheng’s actualfax amazing singing voice with some OST bullshit at the bar, and every time it’s happened since, it’s been a struggle to keep watching, rather than back-buttoning out in a fit of pique. This ep was no different.

No surprise when the money showed up in Elise’s account - I knew her mom was going to the bedroom to get her the money, I was only surprised that it was an electronic transfer and not a wad of cash being shoved at her. I do appreciate the consistent characterization in how her mom still locks her out of the bedroom and won’t talk to her because she’s pissed off, even as she provides the funds.

I like how they’ve set us up to believe that Lin Kesong is not going to win the competition because OF COURSE Victor will win - because I’m kind of expecting Victor to buck the reins and NOT make whatever Mom-approved dessert delicacy he’s supposed to, but instead to make his crush’s fave dish (cream cake with glutinous rice, was it?), leaving him open to challenge.

Maybe one of my favorite things about this show is the Song Yiran-Lin Kesong relationship and the way it seems to be developing into a platonic soulmates relationship for him.

Not loving the magical save they seem to be setting up at the end, re: Jiang Qianfan. I dunno, I kind of liked the way they seemed to have committed to the catastrophic tragedy up ‘til now.
