I’ve been rereading ‘dirty laundry’ by @popatochisssp and I now have a strong urge to talk about my own sf boys!!

Black:

Ngl you two meet in the worst way possible

You are the seventh human to fall down into the Underground and the last human that needs to die for all of Monsterkinds freedom

Suffice to say, it’s not a friendly start to the relationship

As soon as Black hears about a human wandering through Snowdin he drags his brother out to track you down.

Of course, being the honourable monster he is, he offers for you to complete three of his and his brother’s puzzles.

Complete the puzzles and he lets you move on to Waterfall, fail even one! and well, the puzzles aren't exactly child friendly.

You get through each one, shockingly quickly, and without suffering grievous injury.

Black's a little shocked at it. You're even better than some of the guard recruits!

as you're walking out of town, readying yourself for the battle that will be Waterfall. Black challenges you to a battle. He demands to know what you've got in you that lets you finish his most dangerous puzzles in a few minutes!

He drags you back to his home and keeps you locked in his shed, or "TEMPORARY HUMAN PRISON CELL" as he likes to call it.

At least now you're relationship progresses a little further.

He finds you... charming, a curiosity to be sure. Not many people can find ways to sneak into his mind like you can. He enjoys your bantering, even if you're both supposed to be enemies.

He comes in a few times a day, eager to interrogate you. He starts regretting being so eager to call up Alphys and inform her about you

For once in his life, Black is left conflicted. Things had been so easy before he met you, protect his brother, earn his promotions and give everyone a reason to fear the name 'Black'

And now? Well, he protected those he cared for.

After a short conversation, he 'conveniently' forgets to relock the shed door, and 'accidentally' slips up and tells you about an old cabin deep into Snowdin's forest that was totally isolated and far away from any Monsters.

He's happy when he comes back with Alphys a few hours later to find you totally gone, no doubt headed for that dilapidated home.

From there, he manages to find the time to slip past his home and work duties, bringing you food and clothes to keep you fed and alive.

He just hopes another human falls soon. Black doesn't think he could handle seeing you dead in front of the queen, her hand gripping around your soul cruelly.

Mutt:

Mutt was the first one to find you, luckily you'd hidden from all the other Monsters that had wandered up near the ruin doors. Unlucky for you, Mutt is way to perceptive to not see you.

Though he is pretty high, so he kinda just assumes you're not real? or maybe just a weird looking monster. He's not gonna judge!

So you both end up just chilling at his sentry station. You're too tired to keep moving ahead, and Mutt is way to lazy to actually do anything about the potential human sitting next to him

You're harmless anyways! With the way you're shaking he doubts you could even hurt a Whimsum.

Soon he can hear Black, storming off in the distance, his voice echoing against the tall pine trees. He lazily tells you to duck under the sentry stand and wait until Blacks gone.

He disappears with his brother, leaving you to fend for yourself out in the cold night.

He comes back the next day, shocked to find you still there. He'd have thought you'd have run back to Asgore by now.

Hang out continues with you shivering a lot more noticeably.

You know you're growing on him when he lets you borrow his coat.

Black finds out about you soon enough, Mutt never could keep much from his older brother.

oh boy is he pissed his idiot brother had been hanging out with a human for weeks without saying anything!

"YOU'RE A SENTRY, MUTT!" Black curses,

Mutt actually does stand up for you though. It's the first time in a long time that he's ever cared about anything to be so proactive.

It's a lengthy argument but Black relents and agrees to hide you in their home.

You stay in Mutts room and you avoid the windows and you don't do anything that could raises suspicion! Those were blacks rules, which you were more than happy to follow. Anything to escape the cold.

You get a lot closer with Mutt, aside from Undyne (who he really only talks to online) you're basically his only friend, so you end up talking a lot, find you share more in common than you think.

From there things really only improve (well, aside from Blacks opinion on you, but there isn't a lot you could do to change that stubborn old bros mind on you)

So it's somehow the end of May? Not sure how that happened, even though I have been busy so of course the time has flown by! Things done this last month include hosting family multiple times, visiting my first cat café, visiting family, wedding reception, and baking my first rhubarb pie. Somehow I managed to fit 9 books and 2 DNFs in there, and was very good about not taking too many ARCs home. I didn't even buy anything!

Also, this is the first time I think I've ever underpacked physical books for a holiday. I thought for sure that the SF book I popped in my bag would last me at least three days but no, A History of What Comes Next was a fast read and lasted one. Thank goodness for Libby and my cache of T. Kingfisher e-novellas, is all I'm saying. Reading those back to back got my reading goal back on track for the year.

Novel is still progressing apace. Digger is still not shipped. It is reading outdoors weather but I've yet to do so. Nothing else to report.

Sorry for blowing up your inbox but I like your blog and hearing other opinions so...

I've seen multiple people claim that Snowing and Captain Swan are selfish.

For being happy that Killian was alive when Robin was dead, for their parenting, etc.

I've even seen them claim Emma doesn't care about anyone but herself and claim that she doesn't care about Henry.

People always go on about how she 'abandoned' Henry and that Neal, Gold, and Regina care so much more about him.

(even though I've seen some sf and sq edits where Henry is treated terribly by the same people and Gold literally would have murdered Henry if he hadnt found out NEAL WAS DEAD).

People also claim Snowing abandoned Emma and that it was their fault Emma was orphaned and not Regina's.

(Even though let's be real. If they didn't put her through that wardrobe Regina would have absolutely murdered baby Emma or Emma wouldn't have grown up at all).

I'm just frustrated so this probably doesn't make sense. Sorry.

Why thank you! And as you know, I am more than happy to blast my opinions out here!

A few things that completely destroys their talking points:

Snowing gave up a future with Emma so that everyone would be free

Emma gave up her future when she sacrificed herself to the darkness for the sake of the town

Emma gave up her future when she sacrificed for Gideon.

Emma gave up the chance to be with her parents and Killian to take Henry to NY in S3

Killian gave up his life to stop the darkness

Killian let himself be tortured to protect them all

Killian risked his life for Henry in s6

Killian risked his life for everyone in S3

Snow let herself fall into a curse so Emma could save her true love

Emma killed Cruella to protect Henry

I’m sure I missed some but these focus on Emma's love for Henry, Snowing's sacrifices for Emma and Emma and Killian's sacrifices for Henry and the greater good. Side note: Yes, I think the show misused Snow's relationship with Emma in favor of her ridiculous and unbelievable relationship with Regina but I still see Snow as a mother who would do anything for her daughter.

That being said let’s dive into the claims!

Claim 1: being happy that Killian was alive when Robin was dead

My counter question to the Regina Apologists is this: so what would you have had them do? Literally? It’s not like they threw a party. What should Emma have done? Tell Killian he needs to go back to the Underworld because Robin is dead and if Regina isn’t happy, well, Emma can’t be happy either and Killian doesn’t deserve to live? Their answer to that is “yes” by the way which I then point out how incredibly stupid that is and biased. Regina deserves squat and while Robin didn’t deserve to die that has NOTHING to do with Emma and Killian.

Killian was also dead and they presumed they would never see him again. Life is a roller coaster and people experience many emotions in one given day. Just because something good happens in the aftermath of a tragedy doesn’t mean you do not feel happiness over that good thing while your heart is also breaking.

This look here is a prime example.

Emma is overjoyed she has her pirate back. But once she’s welcomed him back, she looks over at Robin’s coffin and THEY have a moment of silence and sadness. In fact, it takes them a while to make it back to Granny's out of respect!

Parenting? I’m not sure what the “parenting” refers to under there. Happy parenting vs what exactly? The only possible thing I can think of is Snowing having another baby which isn’t selfish at all. They were robbed the first time and does this mean that having a second child is always selfish? I don't know people are weird when they reach for things to hate on.

Claim 2: Emma doesn’t care about Henry & she abandoned him

Henry has been living with Emma since S2. Under her care, his life flourished in S3 where he had friends and their bond only grew whereas he was never this close to Regina. I mean it was Emma that knew something was different with him when Pan switched bodies with him. It was Emma, not Regina or Gold, that knew how serious things were getting with Violet. It was Regina that kicked him out when she had a broken heart but when Emma lost Killian she never kicked Henry out.

Killian also was very close to Henry as well because it was Killian that finished teaching him how to sword fight, navigate and captain a boat. Killian also asked Henry to be his best man.

In fairness, Neal didn’t get a chance to be a father but then knowing Neal as soon as things got too tough he’d be gone. And Gold cared about Henry when it was convenient for him because as you point out he nearly killed Henry on a few occasions. Don’t forget about S5 and S7.

And Emma never abandoned Henry. To say that she did infers that she left him somewhere and walked away for selfish reasons and belittles the sacrifice birth parents sometimes have to make for the sake of their child. Giving a child up for adoption to ensure that child has a better life than you can provide them is not abandonment. Emma saw to it that his needs would be met when she surrendered her rights to Henry. It was an act of love and a chance at a better life since she couldn’t provide for him. Those who say this refuse to look at the facts: she was a teenager in jail without family support, income or a place to live. He’d have been bounced around from one place to another while she sat in jail then waited for the courts to decide she was a fit mother (which could’ve been years considering her record and lack of job or living). Note: this is not to say adopted children don’t feel abandoned by their parents, Emma sure did, but I’m just saying the word isn’t a fair one to use in some circumstances and implies selfishness when there wasn’t any.

Now if they mean Emma abandoned adult Henry in S7 then they can kindle STFU about that too because Henry was an adult that decided to leave home. Just because Regina followed him around like a co-dependent parent following their child to college doesn’t mean Emma loves him less. Actually, it means she loves him more because she gave him room to find his own story whereas Regina attached herself to him because she needed him. Regina has always needed him. He’s never needed her.

Claim 3: Snowing abandoned Emma and it was all their fault

Yes, correct, Regina’s henchmen were sent to kill baby Emma. If baby Emma had managed to survive then she’d have been cursed as an infant and she’d never have grown up, she would not be with Snowing despite Emma's claims in S2 and they’d all still be cursed to this day. It’s shocking how many Regina Apologists do not know this.

And when you point out they immediately bring up the door in S6 to which I say “same deal”. Now, the show retconned the terms from S1 during S2 because suddenly in S2 Emma needed to be alone in order to find them and break the curse (August implies this in his convo with Neal and then Snowings convo with Gold in S6 retcon flashback). And Snowing had to make that sacrifice for the greater good. There was no other moral choice to make, as choosing themselves would be the selfish choice, and sadly Snowing and Emma paid the biggest price just so everyone could be free.

My answer to this is pretty simple. If Regina hadn’t casted the curse then Snowing would’ve raised Emma therefore it is still Regina’s fault. Snowing had no choice but to let Emma go so that she could find them and break the curse.

SF-X 002 : Cursed Hearts and Coronets (PART 2)

The X-Files X Once Upon A Time with Snow White: A Tale of Terror vibes.

This is the series I'm *not writing* so enjoy my musings about how this mashup might work and feel free to chip in with comments and ideas, the "episodes" will end up being pretty organic!

The Characters

EIRLYS [Welsh name pronounced eye-rr-lis, lis as in listen] is the disabled court alchemist, but is secretly the missing-presumed-dead princess, posing as the Queen's niece. To get out of her arranged marriage(s) and follow her dream of becoming an alchemist, her stepmother (the Queen Regent ENORA) helped her to fake her own death in the Greenwood and enroll in an academy beyond their borders. Her birthname was Gwennerch, but she pretends to be from another region of the kingdom and took the name Eirlys instead - she had a nurse from that part of the kingdom as a child, and can mimic the accent and the regional dialect perfectly. (The Queen Regent then got to marry the prince of the neighbouring kingdom herself, and that's worked out very well for both of them, possibly because he's a twink and she's bi but with a preference for women and their alliance is the best political option for both of them, and their marriage is purely political and as open as the night sky, but I digress.) Eirlys is certain everything can be explained by alchemy, even the magic system, and that what is still unknown about how magic works (as a neutral force occurring in nature which creatures have evolved to harness and practitioners can use and wield) can be explained by alchemical processes and through the philosophy of alchemy. She has close friends at the academy - most of whom are also disabled from various lab accidents - working on this very theory. Eirlys had a few bad accidents in the alchemists' guild academy herself, leaving her with a pronounced limp and several skin conditions that she needs to take care of, and some difficulty in breathing due to fumes that wrecked her lungs. She became very well-respected in the field and returned to court as the Queen Regent's "niece", her appearance so altered with glamours and alchemical tricks that nobody has figured out who she is. Eirlys takes an active role in the court as the royal alchemist, working with the armoury and physicians, but she is also interested in how to use these skills to solve crimes. With this in mind, Queen Enora asks her to assist BRIAC, a cursed noble in Beast form whose curse can no longer be broken (more on him in the next post), and support his investigations into the darker, weirder and more complex cases brought to the Court of the Queen's Bench by local shire-reeves (commonly truncated to 'sheriffs' or just 'reeves') out of their depth. She is intensely practical, pragmatic and focused on her work, but would like to have a bit more going on in her personal life: she struggles to relax and have hobbies. She has a number of close friends from the alchemist academy, who are her found-family. Leaving them behind is hard for her, but she will invite them over to help out with different cases as the series progresses. Eirlys is asexual and greyromantic, but bi-orientated. She has a longstanding sapphic thing with a fellow alchemist that she's known for years.

Tears. Tears everywhere. Even during scenes that weren’t even remotely sad. Scenes that slightly mention/allude to Ginny = sobbing and sniffling from Harry and Albus. Also impromptu kisses and hand holding. But mainly tears.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

The Cursed Child stage play debuted in London (England) in 2016 and has been taken to a few other places ever since: New York City (USA), Melbourne (Australia), San Francisco (USA), and Hamburg (Germany) already have their own production in place. Toronto (Canada) and Tokyo (Japan) also have plans to put on a show.

Due to the pandemic, the performances all over the world have been suspended since March 2020, but the play shall return eventually.

For Rose, it all began with Cherrelle Skeete, cast in the original London production on the West End. So far there have been 8 actresses who played Rose as a 11-14 years old witch on stage! (Friendly reminder they cast older actresses because they can work more hours than actual kids). Here they are:

Nadia Brown had already been announced as continuing on the role for NYC Year 3 but, as mentioned, the show was suspended near the end of Year 2. 

Hailey Lewis was cast for the upcoming Canadian production.
