King Of The Beats

[サイケアウツ] (1996)
Man, where do I even start with this album?
Let me put you on to サイケアウツ (Cycheouts)
They are a Japanese DnB/Jungle group from Osaka formed in 1994 and let me tell you something bucko, these guys are the real fuckin deal when it comes to authentic 90s DnB, Jungle and breakbeat.
I'm not going to do a normal review of this album because I can only say "Damn this break is so cool!" so many times in one review so I'm gonna give one big overview of this album and what I think about it.
King of the beats is core, old school classic DnB. The album itself is super underground but that doesn't mean it's not fuckin awesome. It heavy use of off the wall sounds, samples and insane chops give this album such a strange vibe. It's almost like being in an arcade but all the machines are malfunctioning and you are having a panic attack. The jarring samples, loud noises and SFX laid over fast drum chops and breaks create this hyper lively ADHD filled sound. If this is something that sounds interesting to you then I would highly recommend this album to you. If you are into modern breakcore and artists like Sewerslvt or music like Machine Girl then I would 100% suggest you give this a listen. Albums like this are the roots of modern breakcore and it's super dope to see where and what it all spawned from.
Rating: 7/10
If there’s any typos or inconsistencies in this review it’s because I can’t be bothered to proof read it.

DeBisco - Crisis Mode (2022)
Genre: Breakcore/Nerdcore
Largely inspired by Japanese nerdcore pioneers Cycheouts 💖
As featured on DemoDisc.2 out now on Millennium Strike!
Fun Fact: "Crisis Mode" was originally produced as a demo for Kniteforce in 2020. It has only been featured once in my DXDF 2021 set for datafruits.fm and was completed in April 2022.

Hello! I really love your music reviews. I was wondering, what albums would recommend for someone new going into doujin music? I’m a fan of visual novels, and also Drum ‘n’ Bass if that helps! 💕
hi! thank you!
it’s hard to recommend something specific because doujin isn’t a genre. you could basically equate it to indie. usually self-published and fandom-y (like touhou or various vn stuff.)
doujin covers so much. metal, pop, edm, hardcore, breakbeat, denpa, anything.
what id recommend doing is going on doujinstyle and hitting the ‘discover’ button. you could also check out the comiket master list and this list both on rym. there’s also a group on vk to browse through as well. just download whatever looks cool. if you want more resources lmk!
and since i don’t know a lot about dnb i can’t be much help to you in particular lol. maybe check out cycheouts.
but if i had to pick some generally accessible starter albums for anyone:
sound online - machinery (ragnarok online) download
COOL&CREATE - beat鍵 (kanon/air) download youtube
guna - 秋分紀行 (touhou) download
sun3 - 久遠の記憶 (touhou) download youtube
少女病 - Seiren 彼方に謡う哀憐の姫 (original) youtube

my man Ian has been doing incredible work documenting, archiving and re-issuing the many sounds of the Japanese hardcore and doujin music scenes (almost everything I know about this stuff I know because of him!), and Bandcamp’s editorial arm has done a write-up about it. it, and the below links are must-reads! give Stereo Records your money. these scenes are responsible for some of my favorite music ever (and of course, this blog’s namesake)

Cycheouts - Lum ‘n’ Bass [1999]
An utterly insane breakcore track sampling the intro to Rumiko Takahashi’s classic anime series, Urusei Yatsura. An absolute hoot of a track that somehow manages to be both cute and badass at once.
