Soo... about that new podcast...what do you think? Why announce it now, all of sudden. And is it connected to F3? If machines vs nature will be the main plot, well, the whole movie is spoilered lmao. ((and why not just make it a tv series??))
I’m guessing that they’re announcing it now ahead of the D23 Event in September. Maybe.
We actually have a lot of interesting side content coming this year, the newly announced Frozen Podcast: Forces of Nature coming October, Lost Legends: The Fixer Upper also in October, and All is Found: A Frozen Anthology in November.
Which means more updates that need to be done for my canon post. Pffft.
But back to the point. What do I think about the new podcast.
My first thought is, why not just make a series? Was it cheaper to do a podcast? Is the company really struggling that much right now (with not paying their animators and writers) that they can’t just give us a nice Frozen Series to bridge the gap between F2 and F3? A podcast just seems so…unreachable. Like, many fans are already not aware of novels and comics, and their canon is still being debated - are we really creating something that literally only die-hard fans would know about? Idk. It just seems very lazy. I know that Jen Lee and Chris Buck are busy with other projects, and the new director is probably busy with the third film - but come on Disney. A little more effort would be nice.
On that same note, why introduce more characters? The reason I’m bringing this up is because I would be genuinely sad if once again the Northuldran characters are pushed to the side. We really couldn’t get a Sami person to review/work on the story with the current writers? Again, if they are excluded, it just adds to the overall lazy feel of this project.
I hope I’m proven wrong and this project actually has a lot of work and dedication put into it.
On the subject of the plot - it seems interesting. I would honestly have to wait to see more details and be able to dissect the story to really give a more fair critique for it, but so far the idea of copper machines disrupting the balance of nature is intriguing.

D23 Dissect: Emma Stone Is Cruella De Vil
Tumblr media
First of all I want to make something quite clear, this is going to be a slightly biased post for the pure and simple reason that Cruella de Vil is not only my favourite Disney Villain but in many regards I feel my spiritual mother.
That being said, I am still going to try and present a balanced view as to why I feel this is a bad idea not just in terms of casting and creative choices over the character, but also just the movie in general.
Background:
I made a post way back when in January 2016 when the announcement that a live-action origin movie based on Cruella de Vil first surfaced, however in the three and a half year time span between that announcement and this first look, nothing has been mentioned so I genuinely believed the idea had been scrapped.
Turns out it was either just shelved in favour of their big live-action remakes, because this at least can’t be a remake due to being a prequel to The Hundred and One Dalmatians, but I desperately wanted this to just be a scrapped idea, yet this is the reality we are now in.
Also to date the character of Cruella de Vil has had three live-action incarnations with Glenn Close, Victoria Smufit and Wendy Raquel Robinson all giving their own unique interpretations to the fur-loving socialite who was first introduced in the original 1958 novel by Dodie Smith and then made famous by Betty Lou Gerson in the 1961 One Hundred and One Dalmatians animated movie.
Cruella is also one of the most well known Disney Villains, she is up there in the top tier along with Maleficent, Jafar, Ursula, Captain Hook and the Evil Queen. So any re-imagining of these beloved characters will always be under a microscope to ensure that whoever is handling them is honouring the legacy of the character, just look at the reactions to the latest trailer for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.
Disney Live-Action Renaissance:
Well it has finally happened, I strongly feel that everyone has a cut off point when it comes to franchise and brand loyalty and for me the Disney Live-Action Movies have finally reached saturation point for me.
Now again, I know that the remakes are technically a different category to the original movies, but when the movie is drawing inspiration from original material then you have to always compare because you can’t help not to.
Just to clarify, I love the live-action Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Maleficent and I enjoyed Dumbo, Cinderella, The Lion King and the first Alice in Wonderland. But 101 Dalmatians is the first movie to be remade for live-action back in 1996 and it was, for me, a fantastic version of the story.
Cruella:
As I said before, Cruella de Vil as a character holds a special place in my heart and has done since I can remember. So for me, this is a character that when portrayed differently to how they were when I first saw them, I just critically.
Tumblr media
Glenn Close is the exception for me because for me she is on the same level as the original animated version and I can almost compare the two enough to see them both as the same character in the same universe.
Tumblr media
Victoria Smurfit on Once Upon a Time was another good interpretation. I will admit when she was first introduced the fact she was an alcoholic magic-user who looked more like a drag-version of Patsy Stone than Cruella de Vil was an adjustment but I fell in love with the sadistic and cynical whit she had and her origin episode was brilliant.
Wendy Raquel Robinson is probably my least favourite interpretation to date and I understand she was not meant for a substantional role in Descendants but they turn her from the mad Devil Woman into simply the crazy dog lady. I loved Carlos and he was my favourite character possibly because I wanted to be him but Cruella herself wasn’t great.
Tumblr media
In terms of the animated version of the character, because she was the first version I saw I guess I kind of imprinted on her but in both the animated movies and the animated series she’s simply brilliant.
Emma Stone:
Tumblr media
Alright so Emma Stone is a marmite actress for me, but in her defence she is in a lot of either niche or marmite movies.
Tumblr media
My favourite role of hers is still probably Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man movies and the prospect of at the time seeing her as Spider-Gwen would have been interesting.
Her most recent movie The Favourite was a great role for her, but the movie itself isn’t too memorable. Similarly La La Land was overhyped and Zombieland I haven’t seen.
But from a completely biased judgement, Emma Stone is not the type of actress to portray Cruella de Vil.
Prominently, Emma Stone is American while Cruella is from London. now yes both Glenn Close and Betty Lou Gerson are American but put on the British sophisticate persona, but Emma Stone to me does not have that.
She tried in The Favourite, but she never made me think “Oh yes she’s perfect for Cruella”.
Cruella Origin Movie:
Tumblr media
Now in terms of the movie, the main things we know about it firstly are what we see in the released image from D23, where first and foremost I have to say that this looks like a drag version of Cruella de Vil...but a very bad interpreted drag styling.
Why is she wearing leather? Leather may be from a cow, but Cruella de Vil is primarily known for wearing furs rather than leathers yet here she looks like a punk goth with that really heavy eye-shadow
She doesn’t even look like Emma Stone here, genuinely she looks like Helena Bonham Carter. The only thing about this that says Cruella is the two-tone hair because nothing else from the makeup to the outfits says Cruella to me.
Also why the dalmatians, I mean obviously this could be her having captured three dalmatians to turn into a coat but you can’t tell from this photo.
Again going back to Once Upon a Time and Cruella’s origin episode “Sympathy for the De Vil” showed Cruella as a child supposedly at the mercy of her mother who was a dalmatian dog trainer, but when she’s an adult and reveals that she is in fact a villain she turns her mother’s two dalmatians into a coat.
Emma Thompson has been cast in an undisclosed role, but if she’s playing her mother or not we don’t know.
As for Jasper and Horace, aside from the dalmatians, they are my favourite thing about this image. That’s Joel Fry on the right as Jasper and Paul Walter Hauser as Horace on the left, the latter of whom looks authentic as hell aside from the moped.
This is listed as a comedy crime drama fantasy movie, I have to say I find the fact they have comedy as a listed genre for the movie rather offensive. You’re talking about the origin of a woman who hordes furs by having innocent animals like dalmatians skinned. Jasper and Horace can provide comedy fine, but the movie should not be a comedy.
Overall I have to say I am not impressed or confident with this project at all, it is possibly the first time I can safely say I am not looking forward to a Disney movie. I will still see it to judge fairly for myself rather than not seeing it and judging without evidence, but I am not happy.
So those are my thoughts of the upcoming Cruella origin movie starring Emma Stone, what do you guys think? Post your comments and check out more D23 Dissects as well as other posts.

‘Loki’ miniseries producer-lead writer-creator Michael Waldron chats about Marvel’s favourite troublemaker finally harnessing his true power and wit while at the behest of the Time Variance Authority
“Everyone has been asking ‘when are we going to see Loki’s real power?’,” starts Michael Waldron, as he animatedly dives into the upcoming Loki miniseries, starring Tom Hiddleston. “To have six episodes to explore his power has been so liberating because just from a ‘pure superhero abilities’ perspective, we wanted to explore the awesome stuff he can do, and also dramatically too.”
On board as Loki’s creator, executive producer and lead writer by Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Fiege, Waldron is itching for the series to drop already. It is evident as he gesticulates expressively as he puts forth how much Loki as a character means to him.
Last we saw the Norse trickster god, he had a giant purple hand wrapped around his neck. The shocking demise of Loki at the hands of the mighty Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War broke the hearts of millions everywhere. What would the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) be without his quick-witted jests and pranks and devilish smile?
In 2019, the announcement of Loki, fans already speculated that it would take place in one of the Marvel Universe’s alternate timelines — and they were right. Dissecting and peeling back the layers of the multiverse has been “thrilling” for Waldron, director Kate Herron and the series cast and crew. “It’s a new sandbox, a new corner of the universe to play in. It was certainly a challenge to define the rules of these spaces, the Time Variance Authority and how these branching timelines work. It wasn’t just about going ‘anywhere’ it was about going ‘anywhen’.”
At the D23 Expo in 2019 when the project was first announced, Waldron called himself and Herron “custodians of the fans’ love for Loki.” Though he was not a comic-book reader growing up (he admits he came to truly know about Loki through the MCU), storytelling remains an utmost priority for Waldron, who almost reminds us that “this is television we’re doing.”
He continues, “We can pick our spots and slow down in a way a feature film never could, and we can do long and quieter dialogue scenes and build tension and emotion in the way best television has been doing.” But Waldron was keen on creating his own original storyline; taking existing elements from past Loki comics and existing TVA bits and putting his spin on them.
So far, the MCU has been extended into successful miniseries such as WandaVision, following Wanda Maximoff’s evolution into the Scarlett Witch, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, detailing Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes’ partnership.
Loki meets bureaucracy
In the series, Loki is seen tumbling into the hands of the regulation-body Time Variance Authority, headed by Mobius (played by Owen Wilson). The best storytelling comes from an out-of-comfort-zone experience and seeing natural troublemaker Loki at the mercy of the TVA’s bureaucracy is sure to be a spectacle.
At this, Waldron chuckles, explaining that “it was a blast” to tip the scales for Loki while making room for his inevitable naughtiness, Waldron says, “It was a chance for our writers’ room to delve into some therapy, if they ever had to go to the DMV (U.S. Department of Motor Vehicles). While we were writing the show, I was in the process of getting a new passport. And you go back to work and go ‘ugh, you’ll never guess the bureaucratic red tape I have had to deal with! But we got excited, too, and were like ‘That’s the TVA!’ so we used that.”
This in mind, he continues, “Taking an organisation that is so soul-crushing by-the-book, so to speak, in their managing of time and dropping the most chaotic character in all of the MCU smack-dab in the middle of that is just amazing juxtaposition. It’s a great way to have both entities drive one another crazy, instigating a lot of amazing conflict right from the start.”
Waldron-Hiddleston-Wilson trifecta
Waldron — who has worked on notable projects such as Community, Rick and Morty, is writing for upcoming wrestling drama series Heels, and producing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness — has nothing but high praise for Hiddleston and his versatility as an actor and storyteller. It was integral that he pushes Hiddleston’s boundaries.
“That’s where the collaboration between writers and actors is such a joy...when you push one another,” he explains, “and my goal from day one was to tell a story of Loki that had never been told before. There had been 10 years of stories of this character and we hope folks would’ve seen a fully-realised redemptive arc. Now we are starting with this version of Loki at the end of the first Avengers film. So it was our responsibility to not retread old ground. Tom was more than game for that, in fact, he wanted to do that and go deeper into Loki’s shape-shifting identity.”
Probably one of the best surprises is Owen Wilson thrown into the mix. Known for being the early-2000s romantic-comedy must-cast, seeing him take on the meticulously attentive and seemingly diabolical Mobius will be a delight. So what about Wilson struck a chord with Waldron? “I am the perfect age [33] to have grown up with Owen Wilson in Wedding Crashers, Zoolander and Armageddon. I love Owen and he is so great in this show.”
Waldron elaborates on how Wilson and Hiddleston bring varying energies to the show. “Loki is proper and pompous, Owen is folksy and down-to-earth – so right away, energies clash in a way that’s harmonious. But what he shares with Tom is a hard-to-even-put-into-words unique charisma. They [Owen and Hiddleston] both have natural comedic abilities and they can have a purely dramatic conversation and they could play off one another’s energies and make certain the right moments funny and right moments dramatic. I didn’t even have to set up punchlines to get laughs in this show!”

In this very special and somewhat impromptu episode, Rachael and Kirsty assemble at their mics to record their breakdown of the D23 'Rise of Skywalker' sizzle reel.
We cover our general reactions to the main news out of the convention before proceeding into discussion of the sizzle reel itself. We go into the significance of the shot choices from the old films before dissecting each shot from TROS to the best of our (sleep deprived!) abilities.

[ Translated from Spanish to English by @sleemo and @nightblossoms-and-spinebarrels ]
Two years after ‘The Force Awakens’, the Imperial March plays again. The galactic saga returns to the big screen with ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’, a movie that promises to be quite unique. Director Rian Johnson and his protagonists tell us what this new stellar adventure will have for us, at least as far as Kathleen Kennedy allows them.

“I don’t want Disney princesses, I want Leia,” said the little Rey in costume who was standing in front of me in one of the booths for Funko Pop figures in D23. Now that the success of the saga is measured in mind-blowing figures, the Disney convention has become a coming and going of Gamoras, Méridas and Thors, carrying bags full of Funkos.
“Before, the fans used to tell me how they met their wives because of Star Wars and now they show me the toys they’ve bought for their children,” Mark Hamill tells us. We met with the director and part of the cast of Star Wars: The Last Jedi after the hangover of D23. “I appreciate all this as I never would have been able to at 20. People ask me: ‘Doesn’t it bother you to be remembered for a single movie role?’ I never expected to be remembered for anything. And now someone has a doll with my face!”, adds the actor.
In all honesty, the merchandise for Star Wars: The Last Jedi has given us more clues about the future of the saga than any trailer or official photo of this new release. In February, a toy box made all the galactic alarms go off by showing an image of Rey with what looked like a padawan’s hairstyle. She just needed to say: “I am your Jedi apprentice”. “I cannot talk about that,” laughs Daisy Ridley.
Everything is kept under wraps in the mysterious universe commanded by Kathleen Kennedy, as the cast well knows. “At the beginning of rehearsals, we didn’t know the plot. I remember being with Mark, making conjectures all the time,” says Ridley. “We could not take the script outside Pinewood Studios,” recalls John Boyega. The newcomers also did not get any special treatment. “That room in Pinewood was like a cave,” says Kelly Marie Tran, to which Benicio del Toro adds with laughter: “I read the script with a timer.” It is not surprising that the Puerto Rican actor speaks cautiously about the film: “Star Wars was the first science fiction film that I felt was mine. I don’t want to be the first to ruin something for the fans.” Without Funkos to dissect and now that Kennedy can’t hear us, let's put them to the test.
New King of the Galaxy
It’s been two years since J. J. Abrams expanded the universe created by George Lucas, this time for Disney. The Force Awakens revived the essence of the original trilogy, far from that attempt to renew the prequels. Many specifically criticized that it was a copy of A New Hope. However, what struck Mark Hamill was something else: “Twice a week, for 50 weeks, I was tortured. They called it physical training. I even did a diet of ‘If it tastes good, don’t eat it’. I lost 20 kilos! Then I discovered that I only appeared for a few seconds at the end looking like a grumpy neighbor.”
Now, to Hamill's good fortune, Abrams has handed over the controls of the Millennium Falcon to Rian Johnson. “I remember asking J.J. if it felt like when, in a divorce, your children go to live with the new cool guy. He told me that it was fine with him but I know he thought: ‘I’m going to miss them,’” says Boyega. The creator of Lost will return to lead Episode IX, but before that Johnson will have to prove if The Last Jedi, which promises shocking revelations, is as “unique” as the cast assures. For now, it will be the longest film in the series, with two and a half hours. But will it be up to the much acclaimed The Empire Strikes Back?
“No comparisons,” Hamill says: “This movie is different from the others in Star Wars thanks to Rian. If it had not been for him, I would have dreaded coming back... I wasn’t sure I wanted to be part of the new trilogy. I thought Harrison Ford wouldn’t come back, he was my savior. But then he accepted and I felt trapped. Since I was the only one who wasn’t here, I would’ve been the most hated.”
Tumblr media
The Return of the Jedi
“The Last Jedi starts right where we left The Force Awakens,” Ridley tells us, something unheard of in the saga. We will reunite with Rey the scavenger delivering the lightsaber to Luke Skywalker in Ach-To, after having spent the previous film on his trail. “I don’t remember what Luke says when he takes the saber, but he should have said, ‘That came with one hand, did you bring it too?’, jokes Hamill.
“Rey must accept that she has power and begin to show her potential,” explains Johnson. She and Darth Vader's son will be the focus of the film, although for now nobody dares to say whether the last Jedi master will train the young woman in the art of the Force. It is as if every time a journalist mentioned the word “Jedi”, a fairy died. “Jedi training? That remains to be seen,” says Ridley sounding mysterious, and adds: “In The Force Awakens, Rey was out of control, but now she will learn from Luke and from herself. She will experience growth.”
Her friend, John Boyega, insists on the novelty of the project: “Rian has done something very different. We wanted Finn to have an identity, like Han Solo or Leia. He supported Rey and the Resistance in Episode VII, but now he must decide if he is willing to fight a battle that is not his. His relationship with Rey and now with Rose Tico [Kelly Marie Tran] will push him into action.” The stormtrooper who deserted the First Order will thus find a new ally in this Resistance mechanic. According to Tran, she is “a nobody” that will star in “several fun moments” with Finn.
And what awaits us in the Dark Side? “Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) is as important as Rey in this new film,” says Johnson. After killing dad Han Solo, the pupil of Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) will threaten the Galaxy again, with a new ship like that of his grandfather Anakin. Another who will be back, to Finn's disgrace, will be his former superior in the First Order, Captain Phasma. “I cannot confirm if her face will be seen, but we will learn more about her and she will leave an impression,” says Gwendoline Christie.
DJ, the hacker who Benicio del Toro gives life to, is one of the great mysteries of the film. Will he brandish a lightsaber? “No”, says Del Toro. And does he look like some other character in the saga? “He has elements of Boba Fett, maybe Jabba the Hutt,” the actor replies. According to Boyega (official spokesperson of the Galaxy), DJ resides in the casino planet of Canto Bight, where Finn and Rose Tico will go looking for him because “they need a codebreaker and he is the best”.
“The interesting thing was being able to propose things to Rian and that he was open to my suggestions, even if they changed the story,” Del Toro assures us. Another fundamental issue for the Puerto Rican is the diversity that exists in the saga: “I saw that Oscar Isaac joined Episode VII, and that Diego Luna appeared in Rogue One, and I thought: ‘They already have two Latinos, I don’t think they need three’, but they called me. It's also great that there are women in leading roles.”
The Girls Are Warriors
And speaking of women... Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), princess-turned-general, marked a before and after between the heroines of the cinema of the 70s, a legacy that the saga has continued to reinforce. “They told me that a child wanted to run like Rey because, apparently, she is running the way she should,” Ridley recalls, adding: “The reaction of many parents made me realize what Rey means to them. They told me: ‘My daughter has something to wear now that isn’t sexualized.’” The actress is aware of how much Star Wars does for the empowerment of women, although she believes that “as long as we keep talking about it, there will be work to be done. If there was equality, we wouldn’t be repeating that Wonder Woman is starring and directed by women.”
For Gwendoline Christie, this "feminist” aspect of the saga is fundamental: “We live in a patriarchal society, so being able to play the leader of an army is a luxury. Kathleen Kennedy showed me the results that appear when you google ‘female heroines’: many women with barely any clothes.”
The actress still remembers the impact Princess Leia had on her: “I was six years old and seeing that Leia was smart, funny and did not look like other female characters made me question how women are portrayed in movies. I hope Captain Phasma will also help change the concept of femininity.” In addition to Rey, Captain Phasma and Rose Tico, Episode VIII will feature Amilyn Holdo (Laura Dern), Vice Admiral of the Resistance.
Tumblr media
Goodbye Princess Goodbye
Among all the star warriors of Star Wars, General Leia continues to shine more than any other. Outside of the screens, with no Skywalker brawls involved, the cast makes for much closer family: “Mark is the father. Adam is the serious one, but he has a great sense of humor. Oscar is the charmer, John is the fun one, Carrie is the hilarious one, Benicio the cool, and I'm the one who always sings,” sums up Ridley.
Therefore, the premiere of this film is a bittersweet experience after the death of Fisher in December 2017. For the British actress, “it is strange to be together again without her”. Little did Johnson imagine that he would direct Carrie Fisher’s last film: “We have a beautiful and very powerful performance from her. We have not changed it.”
The one who gets most excited when talking about the actress is her ‘brother’ Mark Hamill: “I keep missing her. I keep talking about her in the present. Selfishly, I’m so angry. She should be here to share Episode VIII and shoot Episode IX.” The Last Jedi is the farewell to an actress who, 40 years later, continues to make us want to be Leia princesses, not ‘Disney princesses’. The Galaxy will not shine the same without her.

Rise of Skywalker Trailer Mistake Reveals That Kylo Ren’s Cape is CGI
Tumblr media
One fan spots a mistake in the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailer, proving that Kylo Ren's cape is indeed computer-generated. After debuting fans' first look at the upcoming JJ Abrams' directed and written project during Celebration back in April, Lucasfilm rolled out a new trailer for the movie, featuring a slew of never-before-seen sequences - including an epic fight between Rey and Kylo Ren. And one loyalist found an interesting tidbit in that particular sequence.
Picking up a year after the events of Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker will wrap up the Skywalker saga. Initially set to be helmed by Colin Trevorrow, his exit paved the way for Abrams to return to the galaxy far, far away and close the sequel trilogy (and main saga overall) that he started in 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens. With just a few months left before it releases in theaters, fans' anticipation is building - some of them biding their time by scrutinizing every frame of the film's latest trailer, and resulting in one devoted follower discovering said detail.
Related: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker D23 Trailer Breakdown: 18 Story Reveals & Secrets
Shared on Reddit by user officialjfftv (via CBR) is the trailer snippet of Kylo Ren and Rey's fight in The Rise of Skywalker. There's a lot to dissect in the bit, but they zoomed in on the shot where the camera shows the reflection of the former where his cape is noticeably nowhere to be found, confirming that Ben Solo's black flowing cape is indeed CGI-added. Given this, fans in the comments section provide their own theory how the scene was filmed. Check out the post below:
It's fascinating that as small of a detail that is, some eagle-eyed fans are still discussing it. This is a testament to how devoted Star Wars loyalists are that they dissect every second of new material to come out for Lucasfilm's projects, especially the films. However, everything seems to be on a different level for The Rise of Skywalker considering that even after two official sneak peeks, there's barely anything known about the threequel's plot. It doesn't help that The Last Jedi left the characters in very different situations, so anything can basically happen to them moving forward.
The use of CGI is obviously not new. Considering its setting, the visual effects work is very important in the space opera franchise. It's not difficult to understand why Abrams opted to add Kylo Ren's cape digitally, considering the environment in which the sequence is set, not to mention that he must want to make it as cool-looking as possible. With more than three months left before its showtime, artists and filmmakers still have plenty of time to polish and improve Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

D23 Dissect: Kit Harrington Is Black Knight - Get Over It!
Tumblr media
Due to the unexpected and frankly unwarranted barrage of controversy that the reveal of Kit Harington portraying Black Knight in the upcoming 2020 Eternals movie is getting, I thought it necessary to bring an unbiased opinion to the conversation.
By unbiased I mean acknowledging and not insulting Kit Harington fans who have strong opinions on who he should be playing in the MCU, but still respecting the character he is portraying and what it could mean for Harington in the MCU.
Background:
Firstly, I have to say with every comment I read and every negative reaction I see to this casting announcement, I feel very sad for Kit Harington and the original creators of the Black Knight character.
Because Black Knight is more of a mantle than a superhero there are many different versions of the character, much like a lot of superheroes, the version Harington has been cast as is Dane Whitman, who is an American scientist of British descent who is the third character to don the mantle of Black Knight.
As with the second incarnation of the character Nathan Garrett, Whitman is a descendant of the original Black Knight Sir Percy, but also the nephew of Garrett who donned the mantle and became a supervillain.
After inheriting the Ebony Blade, he became the Black Knight and has since been a long-standing member of the Avengers as well as the Defenders, Heroes for Hire, Ultraforce and Masters of Evil among others.
Unfounded Hate:
Alright so yes Black Knight is not that well known of a character, Dane Whitman has never had an official appearance outside of the comics and because of that, yes I can understand why fans of Kit Harington are disgruntled about the fact that he has seemingly been saddled with such a random role.
Tumblr media
However, let’s face it, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is founded on virtually unknown Marvel characters. The Avengers were B and C-list heroes prior to their introduction into the MCU and this is because all of the A-List Marvel characters were owned by other studios.
Kevin Feige is praised as the Messiah of Marvel but in reality it is more like Midas because even the most unknown of characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy can become fan-favourites when given the Feige treatment.
Tumblr media
The best and most well-known characters prior to their appearance in the MCu were Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and Spider-Man, the twins were compromised going in due to a deal with Fox about not mentioning any Mutant-related affiliations and Spider-Man is no longer part of the MCU due to a breakdown in Feige’s deal with Sony.
Yet rather than the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man prior to Holland’s appearance as the character being the favourites of today’s superhero fandom, instead we have fans in love with Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Ant-Man and Black Panther.
So it stands to reason that, if Black Knight turns out to be a strong enough character, that his commercial viability will grow just as most Marvel superheroes have in the last eleven years.
Kit Harington:
Now as for the casting of Kit Harington itself, I have mixed feelings about it. Not only do I feel that Eternals is a rather crowded movie as it is, but also Black Knight has never had any real affiliations with the Eternals...in fact he is most prominently a supporting character of Captain Britain aka Brian Braddocks who is the twin brother of the Mutant Psylocke and was very obscurely teased in Avengers: Endgame.
Tumblr media
So maybe Captain Britain would have been the better role for the British actor? At least he has already been teased and would be a more fan-favourite choice I feel.
But moving away from which role would suit Harington better, we have to consider that a role this obscure is maybe actually justified considering that his most prominent movie role to date is 2014′s Pompeii, because of course, Harington is quintessentially associated with Game of Thrones and his role as Jon Snow.
Tumblr media
Also, it seems that any role outside of Game of Thrones has not been well received by critics or fans as the television series Gunpowder was an absolute flop.
I am personally quite happy that Kit Harington is in a role where he hopefully won’t outshine his former GOT co-star Richard Madden who is seemingly in the leading role of Ikaris, because Madden does not have the same fame recognition as Harington.
Simply put, actors like Kit Harington, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams are prominently and forever known as their characters from Game of Thrones, but actors who did not survive the entire run like Richard Madden had the chance to break free from being type cast and fortunately that is what he has done.
With roles in the live-action Cinderella as Prince Kit (ironic), the BBC series Bodyguard and most recently starring alongside Taron Egerton and Jaime Bell in Rocketman are all not only Madden’s way of keeping the money rolling in but also building up his portfolio in versatile roles.
However, I still remember him as a child actor 20 years ago in the CBBC series Barmy Aunt Boomerang, this guy has been working for 20 years and I feel he needs his time in the spotlight because even though he was a main character in Game of Thrones his biggest moment was unfortunately the Red Wedding and he was constantly overshadowed by Kit Harington’s Jon Snow.
Overview:
Alright so to sum up, yes for fans of Kit Harington who aren’t comic-book fans it may be a kicker for them to know he is going to portray a character not many people know. However, considering where Harington is in his career, a small role in an ensemble superhero movie may be the best he is expected to get.
Do I feel he could have been in a better role? Yes, but I am not going to cry about it and instead just appreciate the fact that he is in a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.
Also, I have to say, with all the attention and hate that this announcement has received, it has taken away from the rest of the news surrounding the Eternals movie during the D23 Expo panel.
Tumblr media
Not only did we have reveals of how these actors will look in their costumes, but also the announcement that Gemma Chan is also a new addition to the movie...the big news there being she isn’t reprising her role as Minn-Erva from Captain Marvel but instead portraying Sersi who many fans originally believed Angelina Jolie was signing up to portray before she became Thena who is the cousin of Thanos.
On a side note, as a Brit myself I have to say, I love the fact that the MCU has such a strong representation not only of British talent but also transforming TV actors into movie level stars. Not only with Karen Gillan as Nebula but now Gemma Chan, Richard Madden and Kit Harington. It does actually fill me with some patriotic pride and nothing really does that for me.
As I said before, the MCU was built on the foundation of either B/C-List heroes taking centre stage or the inclusion of big names in smaller roles to make the smaller roles big. So rather than hating on the fact that Kit Harington isn’t at the centre of the action this time around, enjoy and endorse his appearance in the upcoming movie so that he possibly has a more prominent role in the future of the MCU.
So those are my thoughts on Kit Harington being cast as Black Knight, what do you guys think? Post your comments and check out more D23 Dissects as well as other posts.

Avengers: Endgame trailer hype had you just where Marvel wanted you
The highly anticipated Avengers 4 trailer at long last hit Friday morning, uncovering the film’s title to be Avengers: Endgame, producing unending examination and expectations and breaking records for the most-saw trailer in a solitary day, as indicated by Disney. Furthermore, kid, were Marvel fans prepared for this one – they’ve been anticipating it for a considerable length of time. Perhaps since credits moved on Avengers: Infinity War back in April.
In the days and weeks before the trailer dropped, many individuals on Twitter changed their handles to some form of “GIVE TRAILER UNTITLED AVENGERS.” Fans utilizing the Twitter hashtag #MARVELVSTHEFANS made numerous recordings asking the Avengers 4 chiefs for the trailer. Fans on Reddit shared, at that point erased, minute by-minute portrayals of what apparently occurs in the trailer, in light of informal holes. They pored over the online life records of the movie’s chiefs and stars, searching for pieces of information to a trailer discharge date and a title.
More than one supposed date went back and forth, and we began to figure the trailer could never come.
Promotion for a motion picture is a certain something. Be that as it may, publicity for a trailer? This is the place we are currently, and everything started in excess of a hundred years prior…
Film on interest
The first-since forever trailer was appeared in a New York Loews film route in 1913, and it wasn’t notwithstanding for a motion picture. Rather, it was a short film made to promote the Broadway melodic The Pleasure Seekers. However, it was a splendid snare: Tease excitement searchers with a see of another bit of stimulation they may appreciate. Normally, the limited time films took off.
Trailer craziness isn’t new, however it’s absolutely achieved new statures, on account of YouTube and online networking, and also the continued blast of science fiction and superhuman flicks. Studios have even figured out how to press somewhat more exposure out of their trailers by offering super-short forms, frequently called secret trailers.
Anton Volkov saw trailer love becoming in 2016, when he began a motion picture news Twitter record and site he called Trailer Track. A wry statement from essayist chief James Mangold that is stuck to the highest point of the site’s Twitter account entireties up the present trailer fixation: “[Trailers] will in general presentation half a month after you’ve achieved a pinnacle of disappointment,” it peruses. “Promoting resembles foreplay.”
“This kind of dimension of expectation for advertising materials, be it trailers or notices, was dependably there,” Volkov says. “It’s simply getting to be … more standard.”
Constant interest
William Bibbiani is a film faultfinder and co-host of Canceled Too Soon, a digital broadcast about brief TV appears, and the motion picture webcast Critically Acclaimed. He concurs trailer franticness returns – in any event decades.
“Groups of onlookers were so energized for Tim Burton’s unique Batman [in 1989] that numerous individuals purchased tickets to another motion picture, just to see the trailer in a theater, and after that left before the genuine film started,” he said.
The trailer for Star Wars: The Phantom Menace made comparative buzz 20 years prior. CNET film pundit Richard Trenholm calls that time, with no Facebook, Twitter or YouTube, a “veritable Stone Age” similar to survey trailers. He takes note of that Steve Jobs himself depicted the second Phantom Menace trailer as “the greatest web download occasion ever.”
Start OF THE ENDGAME
First Avengers 4: Endgame trailer has arrived
Avengers: Endgame trailer: 5 things we learned and 4 things we didn’t
Hawkeye lives – Avengers: Endgame trailer confirms Ronin fan hypothesis
Shuri, Ant-Man, Hawkeye: Who’s confirmed dead and who’s not in Avengers 4
Three noteworthy improvements during the 2000s tightened up the publicity, Bibbiani says.
Fast web connections enable fans to consume trailers and promoting materials right away and share their responses similarly as fast. The flood of effective hero motion pictures made “nerdy blockbusters” the standard – who superior to anything a self-broadcasted nerd to dismember even the littlest film detail? Also, the 24-hour online stimulation news cycle has made a mammoth that is constantly ravenous.
“Aficionados of these properties are being kept in a condition of constant interest, so new trailers – or even the conspicuous nonattendance of new trailers – turn out to be huge occasions, despite the fact that they are, at their center, just ads,” Bibbiani said.
Building the buzz
Wonder’s outrageous dimension of mystery around the Avengers 4 trailer earned a great deal of consideration, however it’s not the standard.
In 2017, broadened film from Avengers: Infinity War was appeared in the mid year at both San Diego Comic-Con and Disney fan gathering D23. Despite the fact that that recording wasn’t shared on YouTube at the time, a few fans who saw it uncovered what they saw, and word spread.
However, as of not long ago, we didn’t see anything for Avengers 4 other than a discharge date and essential plot abstract. “I believe it’s very certain that (Marvel officials) have spotted how much buzz and conversation the plain absence of content and the mystery produces,” Volkov said.
Indeed, even devoted fans comprehend it’s everything part of Marvel’s matter of fact. Alex Rodriguez, 19, began a Twitter account this year called MCU Speculation to share news and hypotheses about the studio.
“The promotion and the strain develops increasingly more for every day that the trailer doesn’t get discharged on the web,” Rodriguez said. “This makes for a tremendous dispatch for the trailer.”
Trailers still fill a need. No-nonsense fans, the benevolent who wear outfits to midnight showings and purchase the very first moment tickets well ahead of time, will see Avengers 4, see or no see. Yet, a trailer can help pitch a film to progressively broad gatherings of people.
“At the point when a film like Avengers 4 comes in, there’s dependably something like one essayist for a site making the contention that possibly that film can escape with not discharging a solitary trailer,” Volkov said. Be that as it may, he notes Marvel isn’t going to leave millions on the table by not advertising the film to pull in a considerably bigger group of onlookers.
What’s more, studio dollar-signs aside, trailers make a social affair that can be simply unadulterated fun.
“The desire to share certain encounters all the while is regularly compelling,” Bibbiani said. “What’s more, is there any good reason why it wouldn’t be? Who doesn’t love a decent trailer, and who wouldn’t have any desire to discuss it with their companions? Particularly if it’s inclining on Twitter?”
Spoilers!
There are approaches to convey the merchandise without driving fans to Thanos-estimate dimensions of madness. A few studios and merchants make pre-trailer declarations. Fox and Warner Brothers have even utilized a Facebook and YouTube highlight that tallies down to the entry of a transferred trailer. Volkov thinks this is a savvy approach to construct expectation for the motion picture while facilitating fan dissatisfaction.
At the point when a trailer at long last drops, its real content now and again has little to do with the film’s quality.
“We’ve all observed great movies that weren’t very much served by their limited time battles, and we’ve all observed frustrating movies that looked truly great in trailer frame,” Bibbiani noted.
An extraordinary case of this was 2016’s Suicide Squad, whose trailer was such a hit Warner Bros. all things considered got the organization that slice the trailer to help alter the whole film. (It didn’t help: Suicide Squad wound up with blended to negative basic audits.)
In any case, ongoing movies at the focal point of the trailer storm have unanswered inquiries that make their trailers considerably progressively pined for – despite the fact that the sneak peaks themselves should walk an almost negligible difference or hazard an excessive number of spoilers.
Drawing out the sit tight for a trailer just makes the craving for film increasingly extraordinary.
“The up and coming trailers for Avengers 4 and Star Wars: Episode IX will undoubtedly be gigantic popular culture occasions, on the grounds that the two sneak peaks will … answer addresses that fans have been hypothesizing about for a considerable length of time,” Bibbiani said. “What truly occurred after The Snap? What’s more, will (Episode IX executive) J.J. Abrams continue down Rian Johnson’s controversial way from The Last Jedi, or will he make the following Star Wars motion picture increasingly like his moderately more secure Episode VII?”
The trailers are probably not going to let us know, yet fans will watch them eagerly in any case.
In 2018, anything discharged before an eagerly awaited motion picture, from a publication to an Instagram picture, will be dissected by watchers and diversion locales hungry for pieces of information. Obviously the feline in the ongoing blurb for 2019’s Captain Marvel isnt only a feline. What’s more, in September, the Russo siblings hurled out a Where’s Waldo?- style test, welcoming fans to “take a gander” at what gives off an impression of being an exhausting high contrast picture of a nearly vacant Avengers 4 set.
Drawing out the hang tight for a trailer just makes the longing for film increasingly exceptional. The trailer for Avengers: Infinity War wasn’t discharged until four months after film appeared at Comic-Con and D23, which gave fans over 100 days to groan and grumble on the web. Indeed, even Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito endeavored to calm eager for trailer fans by tweeting that he adored the IW trailer, however wasn’t prepared to share it yet. At the point when the trailer at long last turned out, be that as it may, fans compensated for lost time. The first Infinity War trailer has been seen in excess of 214 million times.
Begin the commencement
Volkov says the expectation for Avengers 4 is the greatest he’s seen for any film since beginning his site in 2016. From that point forward, he positions Avengers: Infinity War, Justice League and war motion picture Dunkirk as the most energetically anticipated.
“It does simply come down to hero and Star Wars films being the greatest amusement around the local area as far as general intrigue and film industry today,” he said.
Presently the Avengers: Endgame trailer has arrived, search for excited fans to begin requesting the second trailer, Volkov said. Furthermore, normally, enthusiasm for Star Wars: Episode IX, due out in December 2019, will be galactically high.
In any case, while the last film in the fundamental Star Wars adventure holds numerous secrets, a trailer date probably won’t be one of them.
“At any rate on account of Episode 9, it’s genuinely clear and evident that (the trailer make a big appearance) must be at Star Wars Celebration in April,” Volkov says.
