I need more of Kabu being a better dad to Ash than that deadbeat failure of a sperm donor (*cough*Giovanni*cough*).

their not related but Ash clings to Kabu more then any of the younger gym leaders do. it doesn't help that Centiskorch adores the kid almost more then Kabu who's raised it from a newly hatched Sizzlipede.

you can catch the pair hanging around Motostoke and the Galar News and Gossip rags go wild. because even though they aren't related they almost look identical standing side by side. they especially like to visit the food market that pops up every weekend during the more warmer months. you'll most likely see Kabu out and about shopping for weekly groceries while Ash is literally dancing in the background. Pikachu and a ridiculously big sizzlipede sharing space on his shoulders while Ash is double fisiting two very full kabobs. giving each Pokémon a bite from one of the kabobs before taking one himself from the other one.

it's an every weekend thing and it drags a lot of attention from around Galar since videos and pictures fly about and sometimes the other Gym leaders will show up as well. Raihan cooks a lot himself so he's always asking for tips and trick from Kabu to pick out the best produce and Gordie just likes to fuck around and not be near his mom so he's breaking it down in the background with Ash while holding his Shuckle and one of Raihan's Trapinch. Pier's is there in the background with his hoodie up, as much as it can be with all that fucking hair, and he usually has coffee in his hands. getting tugged around by Raihan when the group moves a few stalls down. just trying to survive off of the five minutes of sleep he's got collectively through the week.

Nessa joins when Milo comes along to bring hand cut meat to Kabu around twice a month and Ash is still dancing but he's recruited by Nessa to be her photographer because she always wear fire af fits when visiting anyone on her days off. she is a model after all. Milo just watches them in amusement with Kabu.

not to say he and Ash don't hang out. Kabu and a lot of the other gym leaders of Galar get a bunch of pictures of Ash challenging off the few Dubwool Milo's family keeps around on their farm. he always looses but his laughter as he's being bucked into the side of the barn or into a pile of hay is nothing but pure joy.

sometimes Kabu invites Ash to come with him too Ballonlea because that's where he gets all his mushrooms to cook with, Opal hooks him the fuck up with the best of the best, and Ash is still dancing in the back with Pokémon on his shoulder's but this time he's somehow dancing with Opal's Togekiss balanced perfectly on his head.

yes Ash twerks, he's good at it but uses the moves to dance to the wii themed music that constantly plays in his head, and the world can't really process him doing that with a 83.8 lbs or a 38.0 kgs Pokémon on his head while he does so.

Melony: come get your son, he's T posing Gordie into a corner and I can't take my sons screaming anymore

kabu: he's not my son *shows up anyways to collect Ash who's giggling like the little fucker that he is*

Kabu and Ash have the same disgusted/annoyed look on their face and the world only finds out about it because Rose and Oleana make themselves known during the pairs daily weekend shopping. Ash only starts dancing again when the two leave.

there's a lot of non fire type Pokémon that show up around the gym and it's just a universal fact that 90% of the time it's just Ash's Pokémon he caught in Galar so far. Kabu just takes after them because Professor Magnolia would kill both of them with her cane if her house was flooded with them because Ash doesn't and will never use storage boxes.

since Kabu is a middle aged man and his home turf is Hoenn he absolutely shows Ash some old ass anime he's watched as a kid/young adult and they make a night of it. Allister likes to join the pair and so Bea gets dragged along. they end up watching a lot of Studio Ghibli works later on in their get togethers.

Kabu can actually stay up surprisingly late without issue but he's a big bitch to deal with in the morning. he only grunts, huffs, and snarls like an grumpy Arcanine. Ash has somehow learned what each sound means and has successfully learned Angry Kabu Speak or that's what Gordie and Raihan call it.

Ash ends up staying at Kabu's actual home with the man as he takes on the Galar league, sponsored by Melony so there's no favoritism even though it's exceedingly obvious. it takes the old man three whole ass months before he realizes that Ash had taken over half his yard and somehow turned it into a blooming and fruitful garden.

there's a lot of Hoenn plants that are native but their mostly house plants. hanging from the ceiling in just the right spots to get enough light or taking over a few of the windowsills. a good quarter are in ports made from Hoenn, shipped with the plants which thank you Steven and Wallace, but the majority are handmade pots that Ash finds during his travels around Galar or from the weekend market.

Kabu totally gets a tiny crush on Delia from just the stories Ash tells him about his childhood in Pallet Town during dinner or when something makes a memory pop into Ash's mind. it doesn't help at all that Ash calls her over the Tv system at least twice a week, Wednesday night before dinner and Sunday morning before Ash is dragged into doing the weekly chores to spruce the house up for when Monday comes.

he would never say anything about it to Ash. Kabu would literally kill himself before speaking about having a crush of any size since Ash would go gossip with Nessa who's always around Milo at his farm after work, who'd then go tell Gordie and he'd go snitch to Raihan and Piers. in the end it would somehow work its way up to Rose and Oleana-

that doesn't stop the blush that lightly colors his cheeks every time Ash pulls Kabu into frame to say hi to his very pretty and very sweet mom.

Kabu is the Fire-Type Gym Leader in Sword and Shield

He strives to learn, train, and perfect his skills.

Kabu has no children of his own (that I know of)... so the idea of him taking a young trainer under his wing sounds cute.

Kabu comes off as strict and disciplinary, which may make you think he's a rude and grumpy old man.

He's not... he just really wants to push his darling towards success like he would his own child.

Kabu would begin to take you under his wing as a student of his own after you attempt his challenge.

Maybe you failed the first time... but Kabu saw how determined you were to keep on going.

He likes that you don't allow failure to keep you down.

You get up, learn from your mistakes, and keep training.

So similar to him....

That's when he offers to help train you.

That's also where his obsession begins.

Kabu acts like an overprotective dad at times when he's around you.

He offers you lessons, he allows you to interact with his Pokemon, he's like a secondary guardian.

If you have parents at home, Kabu explains that he looks after you when you're away from home and assures your parents you're getting stronger under him.

If you have no parents or a troubled home life, he takes you in and acts like a father towards you.

Kabu is very encouraging towards you.

He trains you and praises you when you get stronger.

If you lose a battle, no worries, he explains what you and your partner Pokemon can do better.

On the surface he seems like a genuinely caring father-figure.

Although... he can get sinister.

Kabu is overprotective wants to keep your attention on him and your training.

He sees people like friends or lovers as distracting from your goals and manipulates them away from you.

You won't get better if you goof off, right?

It's best if you spend all your time with him to train and complete your challenges...

Maybe you could even beat Leon if you try hard enough.

Kabu can also be temperamental.

He's stubborn and will argue with those who don't agree with him.

He tells you what he does is to make you better at battling.

Isn't that what you and your partner Pokemon want?

Kabu will also argue with those close to you if they think his behavior is out of line.

Kabu believes you're safe and getting stronger with him.

He takes up most of your attention and life the longer you stay.

Kabu may even threaten or harm those who try to turn you against him.

It'll all where you can't see it... but Fire-Type Pokemon burns can truly scar someone....

It would be unfortunate if someone played with fire... and got burned.

Kabu tries to be lenient with you in terms of punishment.

He'd never hurt you... but he'd scold you.

Afterwards he gives you a caring hug and reassures you that he knows you'll learn from your mistakes.

Kabu is sure you'll be a well-behaved student for him if you work hard... he'll just have to remove your... distractions.

I'm just catching up with your Pokémon comics, and I was wondering if we're ever going to ever see El confront her dad in a future comic? Who of the Kalos gym leaders is her dad anyways? =0

Aaaahhh I know a lot of people would be eager to see a confrontation between El and her Dad, but tbh I don't have any plans for including this type of scenario in any of my scripts yet :'D I'm not sure where I'd place such an arc in my timeline or IF I want to bring it up at some point... but as of right now I don't have anything planned, sorry!

About his identity, El's Dad isn't actually working as a Gym Leader in Kalos, he's working in a neighboring region. El's mom is Kalosian and wanted to stay in her home-region, thus El grew up in Kalos while her Dad visited whenever he could. I was debating for a long time if I'd make Kabu from Galar fill out this role but to be honest I'd probably have more freedom and much less trouble if I came up with a unique character of my own, before I accidentally make any Kabu-fans mad :'DD

And again, I haven't decided yet if we're ever actually gonna see him in the comics. For now my head is just filled with the Gladion-Arc and slice-of-life shenanigans I DESPERATELY want to get back to once the current arc is completed

This took a huge weight off Leon's chest and helped him be more comfortable exploring his sexuality

League members of the same type specialty are all in contact and are pretty close. Out side of in-league friendships, you wont find a stronger league bond between two gym leaders of the same type. Similarly for the E4 members, though Dark Type specialists adopted Piers and Marnie (and Nanu but he's basically E4 but retired before he started) and while they're close, their close in their own way.

There are exceptions, of course, Burgh and Mina are thick as thieves but also will absolutely rip into one another in terms of art, Mallow and the Striatan Trio and Seibold exchange cooking tips, etc.

But every type group has a group chat and it's amazing to see the differences between them.

While the Fire Type Chat members are rather chatty (“even for old people @ kabu and blaine ” - a quote from Flint and Flannery), the Dark type chat will have Sidney asking about something and just "Read at 3:42 AM" followed by "lol you use that brand? Nerd" from Karen two days later. 

Raihan, Clair and Iris make up most of the messages from the Dragon Type, but Lance can and will pop in when Raihan and Iris start bullying ™ Clair. To bully Clair. Cain Instinct ™ (Drayden and Dresna sit back and watch) but on the other hand the Psychic’s chat is very pleasent. They’ve all collectively decided Liza and Tate are Baby ™ 

Klara and Janine are in a constant battle in the Poison chat though. Klara sends “lol Jannie ur dad’s a dilf” and Janine screeches and deletes it as fast as she can before Koga sees. It’s a problem. Roxie thinks it’s hilarious.

Wallace and Juan and Nessa dominate the water-type chat with beauty tips, not that anyone really minds though Crasher Wake is a bit puzzled. Lana is also certified Baby ™ of the group.

Raihan’s been all over the world, travelling seven regions before settling on Galar because its close to home and because he made the most amount of friends there

The process in which a new Champion is chosen if the current one dies or retires is complicated. They have to have a list of at least four trainers who they would recommend for the Champion position in such cases ready, and then those selected trainers would have to battle with the Gym Leaders and Elite Four (assuming that the people on the list isn’t a Leader or Elite)

Mustard’s successor was a Poison, Ice, and Psychic type specialist who hailed from Galar’s Tundra

Leon wrote down Sonia and Raihan as who would be the ones to take his crown should anything tragic befall him, but he also has Mustard on that list just in case

That's due to Sonia being a potential Sword to Leon's potential Shield, the wolves choose people who were always set to be on even playing fields in terms of combat capabilities. But if there was ever a point where that balance is tipped over to the favour of one, then the synergy between the Sword & Shield together in combat would be disastrous

Kabu's Team when he was a lad: Pelliper, Relicanth, Vileplum, Dusclops, Altaria, Manectric, Linoone, Mightyena, Magcargo, Camperupt, Shiny Ninetales, and Blaziken

A lot of trainers generally have monotype teams due to the easier training, food, and care requirements

Marnie had a surprisingly normal Gym Challenge, outside of telling off Team Yell every now and then, she was pretty much just Vibin’

Isle Of Armor Hc's

Leon & Sonia both got a Kubfu but Sonia gave up too soon and Leon got lost

Sonia would’ve chosen the Tower of Water and Leon would’ve chosen the Tower of Darkness

Sonia thought that since she’s friends with Nessa and thus familiar with water types, it would’ve been easier on her to go through the Water Tower

Leon thought the Tower of Darkness sounded tougher, but after getting a bit too lost he decided that either would work but he would’ve preferred the Tower of Darkness

Raihan started his battle practice with Sandstorms in the Isle, which continued to happen once he found a place that would regularly have and be accustomed to Sandstorms (ex: the Desert in Hoenn)

Despite that, he caught his Tyranitar in Kalos and brought it along for his journey through Unova

Klara and Avery are siblings who hail from one of the settlements on the Tundra. To try and bring more fame and attention to their precious home, Klara tried to become a popstar and Avery tried to become a famous Psychic alongside some distant relatives

They quickly switched to try and become Gym Leaders once those goals prove to be too difficult, but after finding a more than worthy challenger in the MC & Co.

The Master Dojo is actually a multi-story building but also an extremely wide one, not as wide as most would except but wider than they think

When not used to be a trail for the one who has the Isle’s Sacred Armour, its a regular training building

But if one requests it, they can have the special training activated for them and a few others for a session

Mustard did use to be the Stow-On-Side Gym Leader, but that was years before Bea’s time so she doesn’t even know it until she visits the Isle for training

Hyde’s a teenager, he’s just really short

He half-assedly participated in the Gym Challenge and got his ass kicked by her in the Cup

Honey is still part of her old Company, but as a distant investor and consultant

Mustard only allows himself to go all out on Four trainers: Leon, Honey, Sonia, and Opal

Sonia doesn’t know that she’s one of them because Self-Esteem Issues

He adds Marnie, Bede, and Hop to this list once he sees their potential

He also adds Raihan when that boy finally becomes Leon’s official Rival, Piers when he finally finds confidence in his battling skill, and Nessa

Leon, surprisingly, didn’t get lost in the Isle except for the one time when he was going to the Tower with Kubfu, but that was due the raging Sandstorms

Sonia also had a Kubfu, but due to storm she gave up and returned it, no objections

Leon & Sonia’s starters are actually from Mustard, but due to someone pulling some strings, they got them as their first Pokemon

Leon’s capable of hand-to-hand combat, Sonia’s an expert on disarming someone with a weapon

Despite this, Leon’s a Shield and Sonia’s a Sword

They returned their Kubfu to Mustard because they felt like they failed

In another timeline, Mustard would give those two to the next Sword and Shield, to— Hop

Mustard’s lost partner Pokemon is not known by the press of current times, only Opal truly knows what it was. As does Honey. Some guess it was an Eevee, many more suggest an Eeveelution

The only way Sharpedo don't go after you while in the water is either to use a boat or have several water type Pokemon out and around for your own safety

Don't use red boats though, they confuse it for prey. Leon and Piers learned the hard way

Nessa refuses to train any of the Psyduck line because back in the Isle as a challenger, she saw one sneeze in a cave and released a bit shockwave that punted her to a wall and knocked her out

Honey terrifies everyone of the young Adult Crew (Piers, Leon, Sonia, Raihan, Nessa, Milo, and Gordie) as much as they adore her

Crown Tundra Hcs

Malcom was the one who always looked out for both of them, him and Peony, when they were kids so Peony could have a childhood

This, in turn, made Malcom a lot more serious and ‘mature’ at a younger age while Peony is a bit too naive as an adult

The Mayor of the settlement is Klara and Avery’s grandfather, who raised them alongside the settlement after he took them in after their parents died

Avery and Klara practically inhaled and ate up every piece of information they could find on the King, because he could make their home better, right? He could make it so their friends don’t have to leave with their parents to the big city, right?

Calyrex watched Klara and Avery grow up, the two kids being it only source of power for years, but then they left, not long after giving up on believing it’s ‘fairy tale’

That doesn’t stop the two siblings from trying to restore the faith in the lost King, especially after hear two kids younger than they speak vividly and furiously about myths and legends and gods

So... I remembered my scrapped Galar fic story.

Just to let you know, please do not expect anything to come of this, this is just an incomplete framework for a scrapped story. And nothing more.

a variation of these events occurred in the pasio fic, which release has been delayed, but will be here shortly, I promise.

things of note: the twist initially was going to be that Rose was Ash's dad, which I changed because Peony is more fun. Also, the story was going to reveal that 2 years had passed since Ash left pallet town, hence all the hints towards it, and Ash just forgets his birthdays.

What if Ash got a genuine Galar journey, without ‘hey remember this?’

Galar, and like in every pokemon anime timeframe is non-specific (for now heh heh heh)

Main characters

Ash - 10(?) years old, similar to how ash is in the X & Y anime, not immature but still young, has lots of experience (Spoilers: About 2 years worth), and is willing to pass it on to others.

Gloria - 12 years old, forced by her overbearing mother to wait a couple of years before she can start her journey, so naturally, she's very passionate about the sport, starts out iris/misty-like before character evolution hits and becomes the in-between of Serena/dawn and iris/misty character types

Hop Dande - 10 years old, young, and very similar to Ash when he started, but even more headstrong if you would believe it, he let being the champion’s little bro go to his head and thus thought he was champion material himself. Leaves at some point to truly learn how to battle and makes his return during the Galar conference.

Allister Nion - replaces Hop after he leaves, his arc is just to build confidence in himself.

Secondary characters

Marnie Nezu - ash’s rival (14) is pretty much the same in-game, the only difference is she and Gloria were once friends. 

Bede - Gary but worse, belittles Ash any chance he gets 

Leon Dande - is less stupid than his in-game counterpart, and is quite similar to Ash. 

Sonia Magnolia - introduces him to Gloria and hop

Prof. Magnolia - a wise old lady that gives our heroes their starters.

Rose Patak - is near 1 to 1 but seems like he’s hiding something. 

Oleanna Olive - fakes being motherly but is very very rude and angry underneath

Team Yell - is just a bunch of street punks that interfere with anyone they perceive as a threat to Marnie.

Gym leaders

Milo Yarrow - the stereotypical kind farmer’s boy 

Nessa Ruina - ash’s cool big sis in a metaphorical sense

Kabu Hibana - gives ash a mentorship program (tony stark peter parker-esque)

Bea Saito - antisocial but very kind also being mentored by Kabu (might become ash’s companion during the isle of armor)

Opal Poplar - kind old lady who mentors bede (being his reminder to be kind)

Melony Makuwa - kind and motherly off-field, an ice-cold battler on the field.

Gordie Makuwa - overconfident almost to a fault and really rude sometimes.

Piers Nezu - snarky but somewhat kind, and very protective over Marnie, but still her brother.

Raihan Kibana - I can't put his personality into words but he live-streams his fights.

Ash lands in Galar and is introduced to Sonia and Leon

Sonia then takes ash to Professor Magnolia to get his starter and he meets Gloria and Hop

Leon then takes him to Motostoke to announce the start of Galar’s gym challenge

Our heroes go to budew inn and meet Marnie.

Battle against some team yell grunts.

Our heroes than just hang out and bond

Milo gym fight: ash wins, Gloria wins, and hop needs a rematch.

After hop’s rematch milo teaches ash how to cook curry.

Gloria and Ash get into an argument over methods of travel.

Team Rocket gets the focus in this chapter James catches a galarian Weezing and Jessie catches a sandaconda 

Hulbury but Nessa’s gym is closed.  

As it turns out Nessa's prized Drednaw is very, very sick. Which ash cures with some herbs.

Nessa Gym Battle: Ash wins, Hop wins, Gloria rematch.

Gloria catches a Yamper.

Gloria's rematch.

Our heroes then go to motostoke

Before any of them fight Kabu the first team rocket clash happens

It's a near standstill, but team rocket blasts off due to Gloria’s Yamper and Ash’s Pikachu.

Kabu introduces himself to Ash and the two have a “Queens. Brooklyn.” moment 

Grooky evolves into Thwackey during Kabu’s fight. 

And ash loses but he’s not upset given both Thwackey has evolved and that Kabu is really respectful to him.

Ash goes and trains with Kabu and the two bond a lot.

Ash accidentally calls him dad and kabu is kinda flattered.

Rematch! 

And a great surprise occurs Pikachu can Gigantamax!

Everyone looks on in aww.

Ash wins and Kabu gives him the most dad-esque interaction ever.

“That was some real fighting, ash, great job!”
