It is all but impossible to tell you the ways these two have changed my life.

I was 30 years old, certain I’d never marry again, let alone have anymore children. Kelly proved me wrong on the first question in April of 2013, & that November these two arrived, just a little early.

Being a parent of twins is different. Having four instead of two is different. Having girls is different. But having THESE girls? It’s been magical, & I know they’re just getting started.

Ever since I saw the trailer I wanted to see the new Disney movie Onward. It made me think of this magical possibility that in some imaginary world my niece could somehow see her dad again for a day and know how much he loves her. I wish so badly that these made up scenarios were possible. For her and for me. Anyways, if you're bored in quarantine, have Disney+ and feel like crying then grab some snacks and go watch that shit.

I think a lot about this piece from Dan Lavery on why the Addams Family feels so joyfully trans, and I think that making Dad Dadstuff trans is the keystone of the project for the same reason Gomez Addams works: he's not just a toxically-masculine Hot Dad, he's thrilled to be a Hot Dad and play with toxic masculinity on his own terms

Bedtime Strategies #1

Strategy # 1 – The Bell ~ From a Dad in North Carolina.

Kids don’t like surrendering control of their situations.  Since they can’t tell time you can imagine how their stomachs drop when we announce “its bedtime!”  Sure, giving them a 5-minute warning helps, but when that 5-minutes turns into 30 minutes because we got distracted then you’ve conditioned the child to understand that “5-minutes before bedtime” could be 1 more commercial break or could be an entire episode start to finish.  So when you finally try to round them up for bed they are more likely to be surprised and defiant and put up their defensive maneuvers.

SOLUTION:  If you give them an X minute warning, set a timer.  When the bell rings, that’s it.  There’s no arguing with the bell.  If YOU respect the bell ALWAYS, then THEY will respect it too.  There can never be a bell reset or you’ve undermined the authority of the bell forever.
