no but really, I think it fits him really well! I had thought his UM would probably involve something kinda sleight-of-handy or pickpockety! and I looooved that it made such a nice loop-around back to episode 1. ❤️ I was. kind of half-expecting him to just run out and punch Riddle in the nose again. but instead this time 'twas he who offed the queen's head! it was great! and he did it while stone-cold terrified out of his mind! because Ace is the only remotely normal or well-adjusted person at NRC and therefore the only one who is like "we're going to literally die, this is super effed up". but he did it anyway!!!! I AM SO PROUD

And by the time he finally realized, it was far too late to change anything.

It should have been an innocuous comment—just a random Gotham socialite saying he had his father’s eyes. But then something clicked into place in his mind, and he sprinted for the bathroom before he emptied the contents of his stomach.

Because these weren’t his eyes. His original pair had been lost, replaced with new ones provided by the League. He’d never asked about the source, never let himself consider the truth that literally stared back at him every time he looked in the mirror.

hii i'm so fascinated with the anthro dog worldbuilding and had a question about it !!! if domesticated canines exist in the world, do undomesticated canines (wolves, foxes, coyotes, maned wolves, etc) also exist? if so, what role do they play in society? ^_^

Domestic dogs are the only anthropomorphic species, they exist in place of humans.

Wild canines exist, but they're just regular wolves, foxes, coyotes and so on. Anthro dogs view them the same way humans view apes and other primates. They recognize that wolves are superficially similar to them in some uncanny ways, but have no gualms about hunting them. To a dog living in the pre-Darwin era, a wolf isn't a distant relative, it's a wild beast that will eat their livestock.

Actual pet dogs are entirely absent.

Other domesticated animals exist as normal. Anthro dogs keep cats as pets, raise chickens and ride horses.

I usually hate modern aus but can't stop thinking about my Rook pulling up to the big double gates of the Dellamorte Estate in her beat up old SUV she inherited from Varric, driving down the long driveway to this old, historic, three story mansion before getting out to ring the doorbell in her scuffed up Doc Martins, thrifted goth couture, and jingling with every step with the amount of bracelets, necklaces, and chains she's got on her with a giant bouquet of red roses in hand. Lucanis practically flings the door open with excitement and takes the roses with the biggest, sappiest smile and then quickly starts ushering Rook back into the car while she's in the middle of saying something dumb and cheesy like "your chariot awaits" because he doesn't want Caterina or Illario showing up.

Meanwhile Caterina and Illario are posted up in one of the upstairs windows with opera glasses to catch a glimpse of Lucanis' mysterious new sweetheart and are sharing mutual looks of disgust as they watch Lucanis and his three piece designer suit (because he panicked and way overdressed for the chic wine bar Emmrich suggested they go check out for date night) get his ass in the dirty 20 year old junker Rook is driving around in. After all these years single the fact that Lucanis is settling for whatever the fuck Rook has going on (because she definitely radiates gremlin energy) is absolutely baffling.

The fact that the car is covered in bumper stickers that say things like "I EAT SAND just a little sometimes as a snack" and "these curbs aren't gonna hit themselves!" is not helping Rook's first impression. To be fair to Rook though half the stickers on the car are left over from the Kirkwall Crew slapping them on over the years but Rook did add those two herself because she thought they were funny.

So, I've found that taking gross transgressive shit seriously will draw an audience out of the woodwork pretty successfully, but you need to accept ahead of time that this work can't be all things to all people; you need to figure out the thematic core and then lock the fuck in.

Isidore was broadly pretty popular, tapping into a demand for unapologetically crass trans comedy, then Replaceable Parts had narrower appeal (both because of the corpsefucking and just being an ongoing narrative rather than gag-a-day), but still drew in a bunch of people willing to engage with the themes. I wanted it to be like My Lonesome Cowboy or Coquette Dragoon or any given Porpentine story, where there's a lot of artistic meaning to discuss but there's no getting around The Thing That It Is. Honestly, it wasn't even really conceived as pornography, just an exercise in always answering "so we're really doing this, huh" with "WE SURE FUCKIN' ARE."

And after that, I felt like it'd be contemptibly dishonest for my next project to not center on dadcon. I had a few project drafts that lost my interest because they kept flinching, spinning their wheels with worldbuilding or found-family convolutions, and the only cure was to make a quick pilot comic about Fucking Your Actual Dad and then build out the world around it. And while some people have told me "I'm not even into incest and/or men but this is damn compelling anyway," I knew going in that making a whole story around one of the strongest sexual taboos in the world will turn off large swathes of people. But I truly believe it only has that compelling quality because I've committed to the bit and made it a heartfelt story, like how Coquette Dragoon is simultaneously a Horny Text and a sharp character study of how people cope with a forever war denying them a childhood.

hows it feel to be popufur

The thing about popularity is there's infinite gradations of it. You can always get more eyes on your work. So it's not like you hit a milestone and then you're Popular, more like you get partway up one of those giant staircases they put on mountains, and you can't count the steps above and below you.

Foreach has done as well as one could reasonably expect a barely advertised webcomic not on a major platform, and then it's done better than that. By all accounts it's been a runaway success, with a healthy readership and actively engaged community. Some comics are more popular than Foreach, with wider recognition and a fanbase that could sustain itself independent of the work. Many more comics are less so. I don't know the numbers but I'm probably in the upper percentiles? So that's neat.

The pure novelty of it's worn off by now, but that doesn't mean I'm not enjoying it. It's more that I'm deriving enjoyment in a more concrete way than just going waaaow people READ my COMIC and basking in that. Popularity isn't everything, of course, but honestly for me making art is more fun when I know a bunch of people are gonna see it.

I like engagement-- proper engagement, not just a number that goes up -- I like seeing people's thoughts and reactions to the work. I make art to be interpreted, I want to see how people respond to it. The bigger and more dedicated an audience, the more engagement I get, and it sustains me for longer. It's not so much that the volume is itself something I'm chasing, but more like... I like observing reactions, and more reactions means more stuff I can read. It's like getting a new "reader reaction release" every update that I can enjoy the way you'd enjoy any media, yanno? More of it means I can spend more time absorbing it.

The wild thing to think about it is that to even have that as a leisure activity, reading responses to one's own work, is pretty uncommon! You can't just buy a reader reaction kit at kmart and get into it, you need the dedicated participation of at least like 20 other people if you want to do it with any kind of regularity. But I'm lucky enough I do get to indulge in that every Monday. The sheer decadence!

The SiIvaGunner stuff was cool as hell too. Seeing something you spun from thread reflected in a work you hadn't even considered you could touch with your hands is always a trip. When I was a kid I submitted a description to Team Fortress 2 that ended up getting put in the game (trophy belt ftr) and that was a similar emotion then.

That whole thang is less a function of hittin tha big leagues though and more, like, having the fortune that someone on the SiIvaGunner team enjoyed the work enough to slip something like that in. But I suppose the more readers you get, the higher your odds get of that kinda thing happening. Only time will tell what the future holds!
