i made this headcanon months ago but, I'd like to imagine that one of the first things Zuko does when he first became Fire Lord was track down Yon Rha and put him behind bars as well

[ The Fire and Water siblings talking about an upcoming solar eclipse. ] Katara: Everyone knows the moon is the real star here. Zuko: I'm sorry, Katara, well the moon is supporting. But the sun is the real star here. I mean, it's literally a star. I'm sorry they didn't teach that to you in Water Tribe kindergarten. Katara: Obviously, I meant star metaphorically. You must have missed the lessons on metaphors when you stopped your education at 13. Sokka: Exactly, people are coming to watch the moon cross over the sun. Unlike you two, most people don't spend their day staring at the sun. Aang: Okay, guys. Let's not fall apart over this. The sun and the moon are equally important. Azula: Oh! Sure, yeah. "Equally important". Because if the sun disappears all that happens is we all freeze to death. But spirits forbid the moon goes away then it'll be what? Harder to surf? Sokka: You put some respect on the moon! Tell me this, have you ever gotten a moonburn? No! Worst thing that happens under the moonlight-you fall in love...or turn into a werewolf. Either way it's awesome. Zuko: Oh, sorry. Did you say moonlight? You mean the light that reflects from the sun! The moon is nothing! It's a rock!

i think the thing about sokkas life changing field trip that i find interesting is that,, sokka didn't really get any sort of big change like aang or katara. obviously he saw his dad again which was super important for him, but aang got the meaning of fire bending, katara got closure, sokka didn't really get any of that- i mean, he got his dad out, and then lost him again. one thing i never see people point out is that sokka was going full well knowing he could die, and he was fine with that, he knew the chances of him finding his dad were slim and he knew him getting found out was high- there's a reason he didn't take appa, because he knew there was a good chance he could get caught and if he did take appa, the others wouldn't be able to get off the air temple. maybe it's just been a long time, but I remember the beginning of the episode saying that sokka feels a lot of guilt over the invasion, he feels like it's all his fault it failed, but it's not really addressed or gone into as the episode goes on

i feel like sokka does have an arc in boiling rock. it's subtle but it's there. like, it's actually zuko who suggests they take the war balloon and not appa, because sokka isn't thinking straight. when zuko calls him out on it being a reckless plan, sokka explicitly says "my plans haven't been working out lately so now i'm playing it by ear". he's lost confidence in his intelligence and strategic planning abilities, so he's not using them.

but throughout the course of the episode, he's constantly coming up with plans, and plans that work. and when he wants to abandon a plan to stay and wait for hakoda, he has zuko and suki there to support him, and reassure him that they're there for him even if it doesn't work out. hakoda calls him a genius when they meet up, and they come up with a plan together. and when aspects of that plan don't work, other people step up. chit sang starts the prison riot, suki captures the warden, mai stops the guards from cutting the lines.

sokka comes out of "the boiling rock" with more confidence in his intelligence, because he's proved to himself he's still capable of coming up with effective plans, but he also learns that if he doesn't have a perfect plan it's okay. he has people who believe in him anyway. he has people who'll pick up the slack and support him when things go wrong. he has people who care about him even if he isn't perfect.

the fact that he reconnects with suki in this episode is key, because that's her role in his arc generally. he feels like he has to be the warrior and protector for everyone (especially his younger siblings katara aang and toph) and she's someone who doesn't need his protection and can even protect him if he needs it. he can put down that burden around her.

by the end of the episode, i think zuko also occupies that position in sokka's life, and that's because it's the field trip he set out on with the most selfless intentions, not looking for anything for himself. sokka needs people who don't need anything from him but still want to be around him anyway, and that's what zuko was.

Sokka runs his tongue over his lip. It's not a bad split, especially compared to all the other split lips he's received after 251 escape attempts. He scowls a while, and then when he gets tired of doing that, he glares at Zuko pointedly. After a while, he gets tired of that, and Zuko hasn't moved from his glowering posture as far from Sokka as possible.

Sighing heavily, Sokka tries something different. "Does he like meat?"

Zuko narrows his eyes. "Yes."

"All meat?"

Raising his good eyebrow, Zuko relaxes minutely. "Yeah. He loves meat."

Smiling, Sokka leans back against the saddle. "That's what I like to hear."

Aang looks between them, eyebrows knit together. "What are you guys talking about?"

"My son," Zuko says before Sokka can finish chewing. "He can't chew jerky, but he loves possum chicken."

Aang sighs. "Why wouldn't you raise him vegetarian? He can decide if he wants to eat meat when he's older. When Katara and I have kids, that's what we'll do."

A sour look settles on Zuko's face, but Sokka is too busy choking on the jerky in his throat to respond. "Zuko," Sokka wheezes. "What's my sister been up to lately?"

Glaring, Zuko shifts uncomfortably in the saddle. "Looking for you. And the Avatar. And the earthbender."

"Oh, and you were just along to keep her company," Sokka snarks.

Zuko shoots him a wicked grin. "It gets cold in the woods."

Sokka leaps to his feet. "Sneak attack!" He bellows, starting back toward Zuko.

He goes down like a sack of bricks when Toph sweeps his legs out from under him. "Will you dunderheads knock it off? I can smell the bay."

Sokka scrambles to the edge of the saddle and looks over. Sure enough, Chameleon Bay stretches before them, and a large clot of blue tents cover the beach.

"Do you think Katara is down there?" Aang asks, nearly bubbling over as he peers out over Sokka's head.

"Yes," Zuko murmurs. "We planned to rendezvous here if we were ever separated."

Craning his neck over his shoulder, Sokka sends Zuko a level look. "And whose fault was it you got separated, again?"

And that's when Zuko stands fluidly from the saddle, looks out over the sea, and swan-dives off the flying bison as they make a pass across the water.

Crazy Fire Prince.

Ahoy matey! Welcome to one of my short drabbles as we wait for The-Ravenclaw-Werewolf to finish the last chapter of Main Character Syndrome (With Exceptions) so we can get this reaction fic going on!

If I can keep these doodle fancomics uploaded for a few days straight, then it'll be encouraging the author to finish writing the last chapter!

P.S. Though, of course, the author is understandably busy with their everyday life. As ever I'm trying to get a part-time job while polishing up my drawing skills (traditionally and digitally). Also, I don't think that the webcomic I talked about publishing on Webtoon is going to be ready for a good while.

We're looking at a random event where Zuko, Izuku, and Korra sail the seas to arrive at a designated seaport. However, after traversing through rough waters for nearly an hour, they're just five miles away from arriving at their destination.

However, Izuku can't shake the feeling that something bad is about to happen. One could say that he jinxed him and his friends, but the danger is coming whether one is paranoid or not.

Hope they can survive this giant predatorial sea creature less than they and the sailor end up as "fish food".

the fickle buds of their fragile bond have sparked a glittering garden, brilliantly grander than zuko could have envisioned a year ago. back in the days when his determination to capture the avatar riddled him in bruised shame. back when the roaring eagerness to prove to his father that zuko was the prince he had always dreamed himself to be, kept his heart beating through bitter winters and unsatisfactory meals. he couldn't have imagined a friend for himself that wasn't his uncle iroh back then, much less four. and though it'd taken a tense moment to warm up to one another, sokka was someone he couldn't help but lean on. in his own brooding way, of course.

shallow were their back and forth antics these days, always softened by a coupled chuckle and sokka's arm thrown over zuko's shoulder, which he has recently learned to stop shrugging off. so of course, when sokka comes to him for something, regardless of how (occasionally) stupid or small, zuko is there. he's learned that too. to be there for someone. so they know they never have to face anything alone. "you won't have to," short and even is his promise, scarred face pinched in a subtle sincerity. "when do we leave?"

thinking about how Zuko got kicked out of his home country and, by extension, all formal education, at age 13. and i'm sorry Uncle Iroh but you're not qualified to teach a freshly traumatised 13 y/o algebra. so Zuko only has like, an 8th grade level of maths at most.

people say "if piandao trained zuko why didn't zuko recognize him at ba sing se" but piandao's the one who directs him to iroh's tent. they're walking into camp and zuko stops, looking confused, and piandao stops with him and looks concerned.

zuko then asks where to find iroh, and piandao points out the tent. it's not concrete evidence they know each other - piandao is, of course, a fatherly type, and probably heard about zuko from iroh - but it certainly doesn't preclude the possibility. it's perfectly plausible that that's why they were walking near each other in the first place, and why zuko might've felt comfortable talking to him

Imo, atla has a bittersweet ending

Aang is sitting alone and wearing the air nomads clothes, his culture clothes, a necklace similar to GYATSO's necklace. I can't even imagine the emptiness and sadness he was feeling here

There are no airbenders in the crowd

All nation gathered..... except the air nomads.

No one else in the crowd wearing orange or yellow.

Aang won the war, but his people are still gone.

Yes, he has the Gaang, he has Katara, he has Momo and Appa. But he's still the last airbender.

This is so heartbreaking.

just saw a post that was like “atla wrote one of the most complex sibling dynamics ever (katara and sokka) and for some reason people point to zuko and azula like they’re not just having normal sibling interactions” and look. i am ranting and raving about my water tribe babies on the DAILY, i Love them & i love analyzing them, their dynamic is like a chew toy to me, they’re beautiful and tragic and sweet and deserve all the attention in the world. BUT to call the fire nation royal children NORMAL sibling interactions— what da hell was your childhood like? n o r m a l??? nOrMaL???
