aa5-3 is lowkey bullshit in the fact that "the end justifies the means" would absolutely be taught by Phoenix to Athena.
Just thinking about the fact that Phoenix literally falsified evidence to get Kristoph jailed. He's done some sketchy ass things to help his cases. Sometimes, it's how he got results, aka the reason why people during the Dark Age of Law did sketchy ass things.
And the thing is? Mia Fey has used underhand techniques! In Turnabout Sisters, guess who literally blackmailed Redd White into confessing? (Ofc he deserved it but the principle is still there!).
Obviously, Prof. Means was morally wrong in how he was using that methodology, but that lesson just wasn't really effective to me. It's in the context of the Dark Age of Law, but "the end doesn't justify the means" thing doesn't work in Ace Attorney in the way they probably intended it.
The lawyers literally break into places, steal things for evidence, etc etc. Hell, even prosecutors do if we think about aai.
I get the point, but idk. I liked aa5-3 but that case also somehow affected my general enjoyment of dual destinies/Dark Age of Law.

you ever think about how Osiris “grouchy old bastard recluse who rains down flaming death from above” was mentored by Felwinter, and we only recently discovered Felwinter was Rasputin, and therefore Osiris may be just now coming to the uncomfortable realization that there’s more of the Warmind in him than he’d like to admit

Didn't The Drifter also get close to a child in the Dark Age and saw her as almost his own?
Yes! That's why this whole thing with Eido and the other Eliksni kids is really getting to me. The whole story of Eaton and Yu in particular literally kills me every time.
For those that don't know: back in the Dark Age, when Drifter was going by Germaine and living in the village called Eaton and hiding his Light, he was basically babysitting a little girl called Yu. It was a kid from a family that lived nearby. She was 9 years old.
Yu was nine cycles old and visited often. She and her family lived next to Judson, and sometimes they sent her to Germaine when their boisterous neighbor was too belligerent. As he was today. Germaine didn't mind.
Judson was just some dude that hanged around with Drifter and was known for using phrases and speech that we know Drifter for. Example:
"How you livin'," Judson greeted the Risen, holding his finger high.
Another:
"Didn't see you there, brother," Judson growled low...
At the time, an Iron Lord called Dryden visited Eaton and gave them supplies as an exchange for a place to stay and to be able to use Eaton as bait for a Warlord he was after. Eaton had to accept because they were literally on the brink of starvation pretty much every day. Yu told Drifter that Judson said they shouldn't have let the Iron Lords stay and that it's dangerous and Drifter was trying to comfort her:
He laid another card down. "Appreciate what you get. Your parents were skipping dinner so you could have yours. The Risen solved that for us. For a little while. We have to let them stay."
She stopped pacing to consider it, and looked up at the sheet metal ceiling. "I don't want to die."
"You won't," Germaine said. "Why don't you go see what your parents are up to? I'm a little beat."
This was very upsetting to Drifter:
"OK," she said, shrugging. She left.
Germaine opened a small box of water from the pile of ration packs and poured a tin-full. Yu hadn't noticed because it was difficult to see in the flickering lamplight, but his hands shook.
It's a small detail, but he tended to get shaky hands which is one of the reasons he's fidgeting with a coin later on in life. He usually does it when he's stressed out and to hide that his hands shake.
Judson attempted to flee the village before the Iron Lords show up again, but he's caught by the Warlord and brought back. Warlords rolled into the village and killed Yu's father while waiting for the villagers to tell them where are the Iron Lords. Soon, the Iron Lords showed up and all hell broke loose when they started fighting.
While the fight was going, Drifter's Ghost saw the following:
Through it all, the Ghost saw one of the men emerge out of the discharge of an errant explosive device, cradling the body of a child. He moved to relative safety behind one of the shacks and knelt down, holding an ear to the child's face. She was trying to speak.
That was Drifter trying to protect Yu with his own body. Ghost asked him about it later:
"The child. Yu," Ghost continued.
"Stop talking," he replied.
"What did she tell you? You were speaking to her at the end."
He didn't respond. It would be lifetimes before he told Ghost the answer. But he would remember.
One of the reasons Drifter doesn't like his Ghost is that his Ghost was insisting that Drifter could've helped everyone in Eaton. Which is very unreasonable to think; there were six Warlords and unclear number of Iron Lords. And even the Iron Lords couldn't stop the six Risen without heavy casualties. Drifter couldn't have done much on his own. He was helping the villagers in his own way, using his Ghost to track animals for food to help the local hunters. There wasn't anything else he could've done, especially when you see that the Iron Lords couldn't have done anything either, not without risking everyone in the village and themselves.
One of the reasons Drifter was hiding his Light was because other Risen would challenge him otherwise. While he was hidden, Risen would just treat the village as any other settlement and mostly left it alone. If he'd been open about his Light, they would've treated him as an enemy Warlord and that would've directly endangered the village. But Drifter's Ghost considered him a coward for not fighting and for not being a "proper" Lightbearer. It's one of the reasons why Drifter's relationship with his Ghost is strained.
Drifter found Judson alive in the debris of the village and tried helping him by cauterising his wound. Judson blamed him for the attack, but ultimately died. Drifter's Ghost insisted more about how Drifter could be so much more as a Lightbearer but he didn't budge. His final line is him adopting Judson's speech pattern:
"How you livin'?" he said, and gave a smile to the heavens that ended at his eyes.
Drifter buried everyone in the village. As was stated previously, it took him centuries to tell anyone what Yu said to him before she died. Drifter told us in one of the tapes he left for us:
My neighbor's kid told me something that still bounces 'round my head to this day. Right before the light went out in her tiny eyes, she whispered, "I can't feel anything." Yeah. I couldn't either. That's all I got. Cut the tape.
He never got over this trauma. This child died in his arms while he desperately tried to save her and he had to be there to hear her final words, while he was able to just walk up and live again. It's a huge part of his disdain for the Light and the Traveler.
A lot about who he is was formed in Eaton, including the way he talks which is something he adopted from a friend that died. It's very interesting to see how he ended up becoming the man he is today. This lore book I linked is absolutely a fantastic read. Here's a fanmade drawn cutscene about this.
Drifter also later had a bar beneath Felwinter's Peak. He specifically wanted to get in contact with Felwinter, which wasn't easy without revealing he's a Lightbearer. Took him a while to get there, but eventually he managed to get a meeting with Felwinter. The purpose of this meeting? To report Lord Dryden, the Iron Lord that fought the Warlords in Eaton.
See, what Lord Dryden did was against the Iron Decree. It states that Risen should never involve mortals in their battles and Dryden specifically paid off villagers in Eaton to set them up as bait. But nobody knew about this because everyone in Eaton died. Except Drifter! Who was a secret Lightbearer. So he went to Felwinter and reported it, using the footage of the event from his Ghost as proof. Additionally, Dryden lost all other Iron Lords he led in the attack and also committed final deaths against the other Risen, then proceeded to hide the entire event and was still serving as an Iron Lord without repercussions.
Felwinter agreed to help because that's what he does. He also asked:
"Eaton. Who were those people to you?"
"Nothing. Just ghosts."
"You want revenge for people you care nothing about?"
Drifter avoids answering and never says anything more about it, clearly still heavily traumatised but unable to properly explain how and why. He just avoids the topic. But nobody would spend hundreds of years trying to get revenge for the villagers he buried with his bare hands if they were "nothing" to him.
For what it's worth, Felwinter did not waste a single moment. He told Drifter to leave and:
The Exo parted his coat and drew a long, bronze shotgun from his side.
"What do you think?" his Ghost asked.
"Call Lord Dryden. Prepare my Iron Banner arsenal."
Eaton was avenged and Drifter's long stubborn quest to get that revenge worked. But that didn't help him get over the trauma of Yu and what he had to witness.
On one hand, I am kind of disappointed we didn't get Drifter in Season of the Haunted because his Nightmare would've obviously been Yu. On the other hand, I am glad we didn't because I don't think I would've been able to handle that. And Drifter knows this, which is probably why he avoids the Moon like the plague.
I feel like this whole part of his backstory is super important to understand why he is so eager to be close to Eido and why he's protective of her. Including why he's so good with other Eliksni kids. It makes the whole thing very bittersweet. He definitely has a soft spot for kids. I'm glad that he gets to spend time with them now.

In The Dark Ages Part 1
I woke up in a alternate reality that I in some unintentional effort manage to create in a sheer horror of it all but it’s in a the oddest of situations that I found myself in and soon enough.
I manage to get myself invited in to a brand new spanking palace in the midst of Aussie Haven a gigantic island and the six kings who are related but yet hate each other with very fiber of their being.
Part 1
Tumblr media
King Alan Jackson Lyle is eldest of the six or seven brothers who rule and inhabit that old palace which has been in existence to for all eternity since the beginning and I love his nerve.
He sat in his glorious massive, golden and beautiful throne room that stretches for a thousand miles on and he sits proud as a peacock with his sword adorned with multi colored jewelry.
The sword stuck in to the stone ground with this heavy thunderous power sending chills in to my spine but stay strong as he lifts it up to me and pointing straight my way with a sharp edge.
I laugh a bit stomping my feet to his shock the doors closes behind us all, it it just us too now trapped behind four doors and he rises to his feet in utter defiance of it all so sweet.
King is amused clapping his hands with a gorgeous smile across his face making me plush but I resist as he continues on with his rambunctious applause so extraordinarily loud.
He grabs his sword running to edge of the platform he does a leap in to dive doing a perfect landing and faces me head on but
I have plans and take my chances landing a punch to his gut.
He loses it in a rage of pure anger raising his sword in to the air as he strikes me but misses as I easily evade me and I block all there attacks and that’s when I see my alley has arrived.
My alley throws me a sword he has crafted for me and I begin to imbue it with my power as it lit up on a sensational color displaying it and I go in to full attack mode striking him on the head.
The sword’s battle blow to blow till I hit him to the side as he falls to the floor, the sword goes flying across the room and I point it at him stopping him cold on the head slam his fist with it.
“Ian rise to your feet because you submit to me now in every conceivable way possible and you know yes.”
“Yes Master Lawrence! You are king forever but what do we do with your alley.” Ian ask about his brother.
“Yes! Well Ian take your sword up that’s it my boi, stop him at all cost and suspend him for me.”
“My pleasure.” He says to me.
“You think you can best brother? Bring it “
“Oh Brandon! I am already winning.”
“What the Devil Ian? Is this magic?”
“Indeed! Master Lawrence’s magic.”
“End it! Stab him”
Part 2
Tumblr media
Brandon took another swing but another one a sword tackles it, pressing it with much more power and precision pinning him to the wall and his brother did best him for me his king.
Brandon’s horrifying expression on his face says it all as Ian stabs him in the stomach with a fierce intensity as he cries out in a inner pain and he fell forward to the ground and in to my arms.
He stares up at me as the last moments of this man washes away and soon he sees me as his one and only happily giving me all of his power and influence as we as his throne.
“Oh Master Lawrence! How did you manage to win us over?” Brandon.
“You usurped my power.” Ian
“Our power” Brandon
“Simple! It was always mine”
“I am your God!”
“Yes SIR”
“How shall we make you proud next?”
“I want the continent in full”
“As you wish”
“We love you Master”
“In what way”
“In every way”
“Get ready for battle “
“Sir Yes Sir”
“We are on our way”
To Be Continued

TLDR: "A Man With No Name" Lorebook from Destiny 2
"A Man With No Name" lorebook reveals the origins of the polarizing character being The Drifter, some people enjoy his laid-back, witty-tongued nature, some people despise the fact that he's the figurehead of the grueling Gambit playlist. Here is a quick summary of "A Man With No Name"'s 9 pages.
The Drifter is resurrected by his Ghost during the Dark Ages, his ghost tells him to go one way, Drifter runs the opposite, getting himself killed in the process. His Ghost resurrects him, but he still runs in the opposite direction.
Drifter, in his trek away from wherever his Ghost wants him, begins to die of starvation, his Ghost asks if he can help his Guardian, Drifter refuses on the grounds of "Don't need you. I got this" The Ghost implores the Drifter to give himself a name, or perhaps name his Ghost, Drifter refuses, and dies to a scorpion sting.
The Drifter begins to live in a small village named Eaton, he keeps his ghost a secret and lives amongst mortals. He takes on the name of Germaine.
The Iron Lords, lead by Iron Lord Dryden, offer Eaton resources for the harsh winter to stay at their village and use it to set a trap for a notorious Warlord known as the Red Man. A well-known man in Eaton named Judson protests, saying that being around any Risen¹ will get them killed.
A small child talks to Drifter of Judson, that she agrees with him, that the Risen are awful. The Drifter talks how, without the food the Iron Lords had given them, her parents would've starved to death.
Judon attempts to leave Eaton, wanting to get out before his predicted shootout takes place. He says that the Risen kill by nature, and no matter of negotiating will change that. Drifter attempts to get Judson to stay, but he leaves anyways.
A group of 6 Risen Warlords return a week later with Judson, with The Red Man leading them. The people of Eaton accept Judson back, but the Red Man questions where the Iron Lords are on grounds that they saw a Ghost about theie town.
A very bloody fight breaks out amongst Eaton residents, Iron Lords, and Warlords, Drifter's Ghost flies away to a safe space. It is unclear who won the battle, but it is said that multiple risen leave the battle alive, Iron Lord Dryden is one of them.
Drifter is resurrected after the battle amongst the ruins of Eaton, everyone is dead, or gone. Ghost calls him Germaine, Drifter tells him that it isn't his name. He buries the bodies, and finds a barely alive Judson, who sees that Drifter is Risen, accuses him of killing Eaton, then dies.
The Drifter's Ghost tells him that The Drifter has done wrong, that he needn't live amongst mortals, that he can be so much more, in response, Drifter raises his hand towards the Traveller and gives it the bird. 🖕
The Drifter now operates a bar at the base of Felwinter's Peak, he lives under the name Wu Ming and runs "The End of the World Bar"
Citan (Yes, of Citan's Ramparts) comes to take all of Drifter's Food and drink, Lady Efrideet stands up for the bar and wins in a gunfight against Citan and his fireteam.
Drifter climbs Felwinter's Peak to speak to Felwinter, asking him to kill Iron Lord Dryden for wronging Eaton. It is Iron Lord code to not meddle with mortal affairs in the midst of Risen conflicts. Felwinter turns him down, but after he leaves, Felwinter tells his ghost to ready his Iron Banner arsenal.
¹ "Risen" is the term used for resurrected Lightbearers pre-City age. It refers to Guardians, just anyone resurrected via a Ghost to utilize the Light.

You know what's kinda funny?
During Beyond Light, when guardians were starting to widely use The Darkness for the first time, and how The Vanguard was kinda against it (but eventually came around to the idea that it can be useful)?
Well, the only two people who would have been completely against it's use AND have enough political power to actually do something about it would be
A) The Speaker and B) Cayde-6
...
And guess who's also freshly dead by DBL?

WIP Wednesday - Back in Time
“Look! There’s Shaxx! Maybe he can–” Ghost jerks back as the Guardian reels. “He’s…disemboweling someone.”
The Young Wolf shakes her head, willing away the panic mounting in her chest. She leans forward a fraction, watching her Warlord drop the body before straightening up. His helmet turns toward her and she stifles a gasp.
“He knows we’re here!” Ghost starts to tremble a little and she snatches him out of the air, tucking him close against her chest.
She doesn’t dare take her eyes off Shaxx. She can’t even breathe. Her heart is pounding in her ears and there is a nagging sense of terror in the back of her mind that is only kept at bay by the firm hold she has on her Little Light.
Shaxx takes a step toward the foliage but a Warlock comes tearing into the clearing, rambling off an alert about another Warlord in the area and Shaxx takes off with him.
The Young Wolf releases her Ghost and sits back on her heels, taking deep breaths to steady her racing heart.
“...if he’s…then, we’re–” Ghost’s shell rotates rapidly, his eye darting.
“In the Dark Ages,” she finishes for him, laying back with a soft huff.
“What do we do?”
She doesn’t even know where to begin. Her head is spinning. She’s never seen Shaxx so…crude and violent. She’s never bore witness to his brutality - the very same he’d told her of in the nights they spent in the Tower.
“We…can’t let him find us.” She slowly sits up, “Osiris has mentioned time travel…paradoxes, the like.” She strains to remember the relevant information that went right over her head during that six hour lecture. “We’ll have to find our way home on our own.”
“Well, Saladin is alive…maybe even Zavala? We could ask them?”
“And risk the future?”
“There won’t be a future if we don’t get back, Guardian! They’re counting on us to finish off that Vex!” He floats closer, “It…might be safest for us to ask for help instead of barging into the Iron Temple after we find a power source.”
That’s where this began. Saladin was away with the Cabal. The Vex - Traveler only knows why they chose the stronghold for this but Ghost is right. They need to get inside, the portal will activate when the relic - the relic.
She casts about, frantically searching for the spear.
“There!” Ghost darts forward and she follows his gaze.
It’s lying in the clearing in front of them. How Shaxx missed it, she doesn’t know but she is grateful for one small mercy today.
The Guardian pushes herself up to her feet, scanning the clearing before she steps out and darts to the relic. No more than a moment after she’s picked it up, she’s sent flying against the large tree behind her and it drops from her hand. The collision knocks the air from her lungs and she is barely able to lift her head to see her Warlord striding toward her.
“He’s back!” Ghost transmats away quickly.
The Guardian narrowly makes it to her knees, her eyes dropping to the spear and she lunges for it. Shaxx counters her advance and drives her a few steps back.
She doesn't have time for this.
Her hands ball into fists and she moves in to attack, anything to get around him and get the spear. Shaxx has little difficulty blocking and the instant he finds an opening, his fist collides with her chest plate, sending her hurtling back.
Somehow she gets her footing and avoids tumbling. That's when the pain registers. A quick glance down reveals a sizeable dent in her chestplate from his fist. Her ribs ache and she chokes out a cough as she struggles up to her feet.
He’s on her in an instant, slamming her back against the tree by her throat and she lets out a strangled cry. Her vision is already blurred by the concussion he’s no doubt given her, but she watches in horror as he stoops, snatching up the spear.
She reaches out, he holds the relic out of her reach and adds pressure to her throat. Her fingers tear at his gloves, the sharp prick of his talon drawing blood around her neck. She can’t breathe, she can't–
“Warlord Shaxx!”

I spent my nights on melting snow
Tumblr media
There is no good reason to enter the Wasteland Rift. The endlessly snowy expanse between the Plaguelands and the sea, once called Russia, was nothing but ruins, enemies, and cold. Maybe there was something worthwhile in the Moscow Dead Zone, but beyond that, it wasn't worth it. The House of Falcons ruled the area with an iron grip, and the few brave enough to defy them proved far more dangerous than any of the beasts or Fallen in the area.
But if there was some reason, whatever it may be, to enter the Wasteland Rift, there are a handful of rules any Lightbearer stupid enough to traverse the area needs to learn.
Chief among them, is under no circumstance should you enter the Wasteland Rift. Never miss the same shot twice. You'll die in the space between the second and third. Avoid the House of Falcons. They'll kill you and your Ghost. Watch the snow. There are drifts that'll swallow you whole if you step into them. Watch for the wild animals. They'll tear you apart given the chance. Never enter Lord Odysseus of the Rift's hunt ground.
One particularly unfortunate Lightbearer learned this final rule from the Lord himself.
He spotted them coming a mile away, bright red against the snow, like a splash of blood. He watched as they approached the ruins, perched atop, waiting until they were nearby to drop down.
He grabbed the New Light by the shoulder. "Don't move a muscle if you value your life," he snapped, twisting their arms. He slammed them against the wall, knocking their breath out of their lungs with the force.
"The hell brought you to the Rift?" he demanded. He had one hand holding their arms behind their back and another pressing a gun to their head.
The Lightbearer stutters slightly, unable to speak for a moment, too shocked at the sudden attack.
Odysseus slams them into the wall. "ANSWER," he snaps with malicious impatience.
"I- I came looking for loot. I heard the Moscow Dead Zone hadn't really been picked thr-" they stammered out.
Odysseus cuts them off with a kick to the leg. "Bad idea. You're in House of Falcons territory. And more importantly, mine." He leans in to their face, the cold sting of the air mingling with the warmth of his breath as he growled out a warning. “Stay out of my hunting grounds unless you want to become my next piece of prey,” he hissed through gritted teeth.
He steps back, releasing his hold by pushing them to the ground. “I won’t be so kind next time. So preserve what’s left of your worthless life, and start running,” he growled, standing over them with the menace of an experienced predator.
He kicked a gun towards them, his face twisted in a look between disgust, rage, and pity. “Or stay,” he added, voice low like an animal growling at it's prey. “And I sink my teeth into your throat.” The way he spoke, it sounded like he was offering some kind of favor or mercy.
The Lightbearer scrambled to grab the weapon and ran.
Odysseus huffed, watching them leave. Running like a rabbit from an eagle.
Good. The less in the Rift the better.
There is no good reason to enter the Wasteland Rift.

the thing about "the dark age of the law" being a huge thing in dual destinies is that every ace attorney game is basically about that in some way. its always been a known thing that people forge evidence to make trials go their way..... i mean did we play turnabout goodbyes and rise from the ashes? that's just what they were on about in aa5. the entirety of apollo justice is about how one guy is so fucked up n evil that you have to rewrite the literal legal system to catch him.
the dark age of the law has always been there!!! the only thing dual destinies did was tell you about it every 5 seconds and also introduce the thing with blackquill which honestly would not be that out of the ordinary in-universe anyway. and as much as i love turnabout academy, aristotle means is basically just a walking catchphrase machine
