i started doing climate data transcription on Zooniverse today & it's nice. i feel a certain kinship with these 1950s weather observatory scientists who were trying to use up their stack of preprinted-for-the-1940s observation sheets & had to keep crossing out the "4" in the year field. they were doing it until at least 1952
#personal#putting my years of experience deciphering handwritten numbers to good use lmao#it's also nice because i'm like. oh hello sense of purpose. nice to see you again#i think contributing to climate research in some way is my Thing I'm Supposed to be Doing#like i don't quite. know how to explain that. the subject makes it a little tricky because i don't want people to think i mean#'i think people have some sort of divinely-ordained purpose and this is mine' or#'i feel obligated to do this' or 'i feel everyone has a moral imperative to do this and i'm judging everyone for doing other things'#(selfish: this man found time to build a birdhouse while jonbenet ramsey's murder is still unsolved)#it's more just like. if i go to long without contributing to this or actively working towards that. it feels like it's bad for me#i can Feel the effect on my mental health. like those little arrows in Don't Starve that show you which way your sanity meter is moving#what am i doing!!! i should be doing my thing!!!#Past Me did not make the best university choices for this but that's ok he had a lot of other shit to worry about#& math isn't a bad starting point. i'll find my way over into data science or meteorology or something somehow#anyway. waiting with bated breath to see when the scientists finally get updated forms#the ones to transcribe are assigned randomly so i can't intentionally go looking

Your Place or Mine

Summary: Levi is one of the two new operatives assigned to the watchtowers that overlooked The Gorge, and although he was strictly forbidden to contact the other watcher, you prove to be too tempting to pass up. Luckily for him, you just so happen to feel the same way.
Word Count: 6.3k
Warnings: not really spoilers for the gorge but can be ig, loosely follows the plot, fluff, swearing, smut, unprotected sex, pining, touch starved levi, this is lowkey a roller coaster.
It only took Levi a few days to fall into an efficient routine at his new ‘home away from home’, which was the biggest load of shit he’d heard in a while. This place wasn’t his home, he didn’t even know where in the world he was, for fucks sake.
But he’d make do, because he had literally nothing else better to do, and that was why he was picked for this. Well, that and the fact that he was one hell of a shot.
He fell into a pattern of walking the Western rim daily, restocking ammo, and checking the containment fence, cloakers and suspended mines and making sure they were all in order. It was pretty easy, and he’d already done his radio check he was required to do every thirty days.
His mission was to keep the contents of the Gorge inside the tall walls, but Levi still didn’t know what it was, exactly, he was keeping from coming out, because he had yet to witness it, and he’d been here a whole month already.
With that being said, the change of scenery was nice, and though he missed the beach, he didn’t mind the trees one bit. It was so quiet here, yet Levi wasn’t bored or antsy whatsoever. However, he was…curious about a few things; one being what the fuck he was tasked to watch over, two being who his Eastern counterpart is.
He hadn’t seen any movement at all across the Gorge, and he tried not to be a total stalker and use the binoculars to look over there and see what was going on on the East side. He assumed it was relatively similar, if not the exact same thing that was going on over here on the West side, which was a whole lot of nothing, but still, he was curious. There was nothing wrong with that, right?
One night in October, Levi was sitting outside on the observation deck of his tower, simply watching the world go by as he jotted down words in his notebook. Being away from his small room at home had really given him some inspiration, creatively, and he was sure he would have over a full book of poems by the time he was finished with this year long mission.
As he wrote, he saw something out of the corner of his eye, and when he lifted his head, he saw that there was a light shining in his direction from the East Tower, but it wasn’t one of the watch lights. It was from the other person.
Levi set his book down and got up from the chair, his curiosity peaked as he moved towards the binoculars. What he saw was a woman who looked like she was in her late twenties, standing on the East Towers observation deck, holding up a big notepad that read, ‘HI, NEIGHBOR. WHAT’S YOUR NAME?’
As he read the words, Levi’s lips curved upwards into a smile, and it only grew when he saw the way your own lips had formed a small grin, and even from this far away, he could tell that you’d been as curious about him as he’d been about you.
And wow, you were fucking stunning.
While Levi preferred to live his life alone, he had been with his fair share of women and has had girlfriends before, but you were something else. You were so beautiful, and he could tell by your greeting that you were funny, and somehow that only made him feel even more drawn to you.
He wasn’t curious anymore. No, now he was full on intrigued to know more about his ‘neighbor’.
Levi looked around the deck for a few seconds before he turned and went inside, hoping he didn’t accidentally give you the wrong impression in his search for something to write on. He grabbed the whiteboard he’d been using as a chart, and carelessly erased the data he’d already re-written elsewhere.
He quickly went back outside and saw that you were still standing on the opposing deck, though your smile was a little smaller, and he hastily wrote back to you with his big, bold handwriting.
‘WE ARE NOT ALLOWED CONTACT’.
Levi held it up and hoped you didn’t take his message too seriously, because he was thinking that this might be a perfect way to pass the time.
You read the board and pouted a bit before you turned your back to him and flipped to a new page in your book. He watched you write something on it, before you turned back to him and held it up, ‘HAVEN’T YOU EVER BROKEN A RULE FOR FUN?’
Levi laughed to himself as he shook his head, wiping his previous message from the board with his sleeve before he wrote, ‘MAYBE ONCE OR TWICE,’ and went to go hold it up, but then he paused and had an inner debate with himself for a few moments. Fuck it. He added, ‘FOR THE RIGHT PERSON.’ and then held it up for you to read.
He watched your smile return as your eyes trailed over every word, and he was suddenly very glad he added that last part, because you were full on grinning now, and he was sure it was one of the prettiest things he’d ever seen.
But you didn’t turn away or make a move to write a response, so Levi once again erased his message and scribbled something else down, ‘HAVEN’T YOU?’
When you read his second message, you bit down on your lip, something Levi was able to see almost concerningly well from just how upgraded the equipment was, but he refused to let his mind wander any further than it already has.
He watched you flip back in your book and scribble something out, and a few seconds later, you were holding up your first question, but had crossed out the first part, leaving only, ‘WHAT’S YOUR NAME?’.
Alright, alright, he’ll play along.
He grabbed the whiteboard and sprawled his name on it before turning it to you, ‘LEVI KANE,’
Levi watched as you stepped away from the railing again, and he saw the way your lips moved as you tried his name out on your tongue, and now he felt a little desperate to be close enough to hear your voice. And to hear how his name sounded coming from your mouth.
You nodded slowly, pressing your lips together as you crossed your arms and leaned over the railing a bit, and he tried to not notice the way your chest was pressed together and exposed a bit of cleavage.
‘WHAT’S YOURS?’ he wrote once he realized he still didn’t know your name, but you seemed to be content with that as you peaked through the binoculars one last time before shrugging with a teasing smile on your lips.
Then you turned around and walked inside the tower, leaving Levi standing alone outside his own.
You were mysterious and challenging, and he liked that. A lot.
And now he couldn’t wait for the next time you and he found yourselves on your respective observation decks at the same time.
-
A few days went by, and much to Levi’s dismay, he hadn’t been able to communicate with you. But that wasn’t without multiple attempts.
He casually flickered a flashlight in your direction, left the lights on for a lot longer than needed when he really should’ve been sleeping, and even shot off his gun, which he pretended was an accident, but you weren’t even there to see him do it.
It was quiet tonight, like most nights, but Levi liked it. It allowed him to write without any interruptions, and as of lately, a certain person had been the main source of his inspiration.
Funnily enough, it was the same person who just fired off three rounds with her pistol, and Levi shot up out of the chair he was sitting in, similar to the way he usually shoots up out of bed when he has his nightmares.
His book was tossed aside as he leaned over the railing, his eyes flickering along the East wall of the Gorge to see what you were firing at, but when he saw nothing, he looked up at you and saw the sheet of paper held in your hands. When he looked into the binoculars, he was able to read what you had written down, ‘HEY, STRANGER,’
A slow smile formed on Levi’s lips as his heartbeat slowed down to its normal pace, and he shook his head as he turned around and reached for the whiteboard he kept on the table next to the chair.
‘HEY BACK,’ he wrote, then held it up for you to see.
You smiled back and then held up another note that said one word. ‘BORED.’
Levi let out a quiet laugh and he let his gaze linger on your features for a few extra seconds before he stepped away from the binoculars again. God, you were so beautiful. Definitely the prettiest thing in this place, and that was a hard thing to compete with since he was surrounded by beautiful scenery. Yet you were still at the top of the list.
He scribbled down a question on the whiteboard, and he hoped you actually answered it this time, because he was dying to find out if your name was as pretty as the rest of you. ‘ARE YOU GONNA TELL ME YOUR NAME NOW?’
Levi watched your teeth sink into your lip again like it did the first time you and he did this, and this time, he did let his mind wander a bit. He wondered what sound you’d make if he took your lip between his own teeth. He wondered if you’d let him find out somehow.
You looked like you were having an inner debate with yourself before you finally flipped to a new page of the book and wrote something down. That something wasn’t your name, though. ‘WHAT DO I GET IF I TELL YOU?’
The look you gave him as you held it up had Levi pressing his lips together to hold back a groan. You were teasing him like you did before, and fuck if he didn’t like it. ‘WHAT DO YOU WANT?’ he wrote back, and he watched as a genuine smile formed on your lips.
Then you wrote something else and lifted it for him to see. ‘Y/N,’
It was just your first name, but Levi was more than okay with that, because it lived up to his expectations. Your name was definitely as pretty as the rest of you.
-
It was December now, and although the weather made Levi’s routine a bit harder, he still found time to talk to you almost every night.
He still didn’t know your last name, but at this point he didn’t care, because he was very much into you, and you were very much into him.
From the first night you reached out to him, Levi was hooked, and that feeling only intensified the longer he got to know you. And the close call you and he had a few weeks back definitely solidified his feelings for you, because he hadn’t felt that panicked in a long time as he watched you fire off countless rounds towards his side of the gorge while he defended your side.
On a side note, at least he finally knew what he was keeping from coming out now.
Since it was now winter, it was significantly colder out, and there was only so much Levi could do to keep warm. Sleeping on a mattress on the floor of the tower was uncomfortable as fuck before, but now that it was snowing nearly every day, it just became damn near impossible to get any sleep.
And though he only slept for maybe three hours last night, Levi was wide awake tonight, and from the looks of it, so were you.
You were sitting on the chair on the observation deck, a blanket draped around your body as you watched the flames of a few candles you had placed on the railing flicker from the wind. It wasn’t snowing right now, so it wasn’t super cold, but even if it was, Levi didn’t think he could pass up the opportunity to talk to you. Of course, in the form of a whiteboard and marker.
‘HEY, BEAUTIFUL. CAN’T SLEEP?’ he wrote down, then caught your attention by flashing his light at you.
You got up from the chair and kept the blanket around you as you peered through the binoculars, and a pretty smile formed on your lips, which only served to prove his words. You wrote down something in your book before holding it up, ‘I CAN…BUT I DON’T WANT TO. I WAS WAITING FOR YOU,’
Levi smirked and jotted down his response, this part of his nightly routine definitely being his favorite by far. ‘SORRY TO KEEP YOU WAITING. YOU COLD?’
Your smile grew before you gave him a pointed look, and he laughed as you wrote down your answer. ‘A LITTLE…WISH I HAD SOMEONE HERE WITH ME,’ you held up the page for a few seconds before quickly flipping onto a new one and writing something else, ‘YOU KNOW, SO WE CAN SHARE BODY HEAT.’
Levi groaned at your words and felt a familiar stirring in his groin, but he made no move to relieve it as he simply wrote down another message to you. ‘YOU BETTER BE TALKING ABOUT ME,’
During the first month of knowing you, Levi would’ve never written something so bold, but after a few months, he knew where you and he stood with each other. He’d made his interest known, and you’d done the same. It was fair game now.
He watched as your shoulders shook a bit as you laughed, and fuck he wanted to hear that sound so badly. He wanted to hear your voice, see your gorgeous smile up close, and he wanted to see if you fit as perfectly in his arms as he thinks you do.
Most of all, he wanted to taste those lips of yours and tug on your bottom one in the way you do every time he looks over at you.
You leaned over the railing a bit as you held up your sheet of paper, and Levi felt another surge of desire run through his body. ‘OF COURSE I’M TALKING ABOUT YOU,’
He bit down on his own lip as he shook his head and wiped down the whiteboard before writing something else. ‘SO MUCH FOR STAYING PROFESSIONAL,’
Nothing about this was professional. None of it. Levi had broken the strict rule of absolutely no contact with the East side watcher, but how could he have possibly followed it after he saw you for the first time? You were far too tempting. Far too alluring and captivating and enticing. And Levi was all in.
‘WERE WE EVER?’ you held up the note, and Levi knew he needed to head inside the tower, because he was concerningly close to showing you just how much your words affected him.
-
Towards the end of January, the snow had already begun melting, and it wasn’t nearly as cold out anymore.
Levi was sitting on the edge of the tower, his legs dangling off the edge as the wind blew through his hair. His chin was propped on one of the bars as he looked down at the Gorge, but he couldn’t see much because of the fog.
Really, he’d rather not see the things that are down there again, because they were nothing short of nightmare fuel, and he didn’t need any more of those.
Nearly half a year here, surrounded by nothing at all but trees, and yet he didn’t feel lonely at all. Isolated, sure, but not lonely.
When a flicker of light caught his eye, he looked up and saw you shining the beam of sunlight that was bouncing off your knife in his direction, and Levi felt a grin form on his face as he slowly stood up and looked through the binoculars. ‘WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT?’
A warm feeling took over his body, because you must have been watching him for a while, and that filled him with a sense of comfort he hadn’t felt in a long time.
He grabbed the whiteboard that was next to his book full of poems, most about you, and wrote down a simple answer. But he knew it’d make that pretty blush form on your face again. That was something else he was dying to see up close.
‘NOW? YOU,’
Levi was right in his assumption, as he saw your face break out into a smile and a soft blush, and you shook your head as you leaned against the railing.
Before you could think of anything to say back, he erased his words and returned your question, and you purse your lips as you peeked through the binoculars again.
You wandered over to your notepad and took your time writing something back, but Levi wasn’t impatient. Out here, with you just across the way from him, it felt like he had all the time in the world.
And you were worth the wait.
A few minutes passed before you lifted the page and revealed your words, and what pretty words they were. ‘YOU’RE A BREATH OF AIR, LEVI. AND I CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF YOU,’
Levi felt a shudder run through him, because that was exactly how he felt about you. He hadn’t heard you say a word to him, hadn’t seen you up close at all, and yet he couldn’t get enough of you.
And you’d just given him your heart. He’d make damn sure he took care of it, just as long as you took care of his.
With a steady hand, he wrote his response to you on the whiteboard before holding it up, ‘I’M FALLING HARD FOR YOU,’
And now he’d just given you his heart, though something tells him he’d already given it to you a few months ago.
Your eyes closed once you’d read his message, and you pressed your lips together as you flipped to a new page in your book, and Levi watched as you scribbled something down onto it. ‘I KNOW WHAT I WANT. BECAUSE I TOLD YOU MY NAME,’
Levi was instantly taken back to the second night you and he exchanged notes, and how you expected something from him if you told him what your name was. He was more than willing to deliver on whatever it was you wanted.
You took your time again as you wrote something else down, then flipped onto a new page before you even showed him the first one, and a few seconds later, Levi watched you go back to the previous page and hold it up, ‘IF WE EVER GET TO SEE EACH OTHER FOR REAL,’ then you flipped to the last page, ‘THE VERY FIRST THING I WANT YOU TO DO IS KISS ME.’
Levi felt a smug grin form on his face before he pressed his lips together and nodded slowly. He could definitely do that. He’d definitely do that. One hundred percent. Because he wasn’t falling for you anymore. He had already fallen, and there was no going back.
He barely missed a beat as he picked up the marker again and wrote down a question, but it wasn’t really a question. It was more like…a promise.
Once he purposely ended his sentence with a period rather than a question mark, he held the whiteboard up near his chest, which was home to his heart that was secretly beating very fast.
‘YOUR PLACE OR MINE.’
-
A few days after that last interaction, Levi had been working on the easiest and most efficient way to get across the gaping ravine to you.
He was going to fire off a literal rocket launcher with a zipline attached to it and then would trust you to tie it tight enough to whatever you could find so he didn’t fall into the Gorge.
Once that was done, he made himself look as presentable as he could, which required him to shave a bit and smooth out his hair. Then he picked a small bouquet of wildflowers for you, and then he was off.
The journey across wasn’t so bad, well the first half anyway. The last half required him to pull himself the rest of the way across, but it wasn’t too hard, thanks to all his previous training in the Marines.
With that being said, he was a little breathless when he finally made it over to the East side and unclipped himself from the zipline. His heart was beating fast, and part of it was because of the extra work he didn’t account for just then, but also because he was finally, finally, seeing you face to face.
As he started walking towards your tower, he heard the metal door swing open, and a few seconds later, you turned the corner and met his gaze almost instantly. He moved closer, and you looked as nervous as he felt, which was a cute change to your usual playful and teasing personality.
When he stood only a few inches from you, Levi let his eyes flicker all over your face as he took in all the stunning little details he failed to see through the binoculars, and then he leaned in and pressed his lips to yours in a deep kiss. He wrapped his arms around you and pulled you close as he explored your mouth with his tongue, making sure he satisfied the one thing you told him you wanted him to do when you got to finally meet up.
The second his lips touched yours, it felt like everything had fallen into place. You kissed him back just as intensely, your hands reaching up to cradle his face, and he felt like he could easily become addicted to this.
Levi pulled you impossibly closer, his hands resting rather possessively on your lower back for this being the first time he’s ever touched you, but he couldn’t help himself. You fit against him perfectly, and you simply just felt perfect.
When he finally broke the kiss, he was breathing a little heavier, and he gazed into your eyes as a grin spread across his face. “That,” he whispered, “was definitely worth waiting for.”
You laughed quietly, and he tightened his hold on you even more as he heard your voice for the first time after months of passing notes back and forth. “Absolutely,” you agreed, your thumb brushing along his cheek and smoothing over the ridges that were there from his scars. Your eyes left his and you glanced down at the bouquet he’d tucked into his belt, and he nearly moaned when you bit down on your lip. “Are those for me?”
Levi’s smile felt permanent as he reached down to pull the flowers out and offer them to you. “Of course they’re for you,” he answered, watching as you took them from him like they were the most precious things you’d ever held. His hand went back to your waist as he leaned in closer again. “So…what do we do now?”
He’d technically done what he came here to do, which was to give you the best first kiss of your fucking life, but that wasn’t the only reason, and he hoped that was as obvious to you as it was to him.
You smiled up at him before leaning in as well and draping your arms around his shoulders, your chest pressing right up against his as you hugged him for a few seconds. Your fingers tangled in his hair as you pulled back to kiss him again, this one a little shorter, but still just as amazing as the first one.
“How about I give you a tour? Show you what it’s like over here on the East side?” you offered when you pulled away and pressed your forehead against his, and he knew by the teasing tone in your voice that a tour was probably the last thing that was on your mind.
Still, he hummed and nodded slowly, letting you take his hand in your small one and lead him towards the door and up the stairs. He shamelessly let his eyes wander all over your backside as he trailed behind you, and he couldn’t believe he was finally with you after months of pining.
When you and he got to the top, he looked around the open space for a few seconds. It was about the same size as his tower, but he didn’t have a piano in his, which was a little unfair. “Quite the setup you’ve got here,” he observed, eyeing the mattress you had pulled all the way up here, just like he did with his.
You laughed as you walked over to the small kitchenette that was on the far side of the room, and he quickly decided that it was one of his favorite sounds. “I imagine it looks quite similar to yours,” you murmured as you filled a glass with water before placing the flowers in it and setting it down on the top of the piano.
Levi did another sweep of the relatively simple and clean room. “Can’t say it does,” he replied, shaking his head afterwards. “Yours is definitely better.”
You smile over at him before moving closer and reaching for his hand. “I’m so happy you’re here,” you whispered, pressing a soft kiss to his palm.
Levi’s breath got caught in his throat, and he swallowed quickly as his free hand reached up to cup your cheek. “I’m happy I’m here too,” he said back just as quietly as he stepped closer to you. “So fucking happy.”
The air had been thick with tension since the second he stepped foot on this side, and he tried not to give it too much attention, he really did, but it had only grown thicker, and now all Levi wanted to do was kiss you again, touch you all over, and completely give in.
You were so much shorter than him and moved with a lot more grace than he did as you led him over towards the makeshift bed, and he was content with letting you take the lead, because he was ready when you were, and though he couldn’t wait, he could wait for you.
He pulled you against his chest again, his hands settling on your hips as he looked down at you, and your eyes were so fucking gorgeous up close. Every part of you was. And he wanted to memorize every inch of you before he had to go back to his tower.
Your hands rested on his shoulders, and you gently dug your fingers into his skin as you guided him down until he was on his knees beside the mattress. You followed him down so you were kneeling in front of him, and you still had to look up at him as you caressed his face. “Tell me to stop and I will,” you whispered, your lips curving upwards into a teasing smile. “But I hope you know that I really don’t want to.”
“Then don’t stop,” he said back, his hands reaching for your hips again as he pulled you so you were straddling his lap. You were small in his arms, yet you felt absolutely perfect against him like this. His voice was a little rougher as he repeated the words he would be saying again soon enough, “Don’t stop.”
You let out a shaky sigh, your lips curling up into a relieved smile before you were leaning in and kissing him deeply, like the two before this one. Your hands gently pulled at his hair as you kissed him, and everything felt right. Like he already belonged here. Like he already belonged with you.
When you pulled away from his mouth, your teeth tugged at his bottom lip as you slowly rolled your hips against his, and Levi let out a soft groan. “Do you want to?” you quietly asked, your thumb stroking along his beard and chin.
Did he want to? Were you seriously asking him that right now? He couldn’t get enough of you, couldn’t stop his hands from touching every part of you he’s thought about over and over again while laying on his own bed across the Gorge from you.
“Do I want to?” he echoed, his voice a bit strained as he pulled you against him a little harder. “Fuck yes, I want to.”
You nod quickly and go to bite down on your lip again before Levi leaned in and connected your mouths once more. His big hands slid up your back under your shirt, and he could feel the goosebumps forming on your skin from his touch.
He helped you pull off his jacket and shirt, leaving his chest bare to your eyes when you pulled back to look at him. His thumb traced your bottom lip as your gaze flickered over every inch of his upper half, and you let out a soft sigh. “Fuck…you’re so hot,” you whispered and leaned in to press opened mouthed kisses along his shoulder
Levi groaned under his breath, his head tipping back a bit to give you more access as his hands pulled at your shirt until it was off your body, leaving your top half nearly bare. Your hands were running along his abs and chest when you pulled back and looked at him, your eyes hooded and unguarded.
“Touch me,” you encouraged quietly, and Levi finally let himself indulge in you.
His gaze dropped down to the tops of your breasts that your bra didn’t cover, and he was reminded of the teaser he got that first night when you leaned over the railing. Fuck the view from this angle was even better.
He slid his hands up your back as he leaned his head down and pressed soft kisses to your skin before he buried his face between your flesh. Your moan was music to his ears as he let his fingers fumble with the clasp of your bra, and he slowly guided the straps down your arms.
“God,” he groaned when the fabric hit the floor, and his hands immediately explored the newly exposed skin of your breasts. “You’re so gorgeous.” he breathed, his thumbs brushing over your nipples until they pebbled at his touch.
You were so beautiful, you took his breath away. Your skin was warm and inviting, begging to be touched and worshipped. By him, of course.
He leaned up and kissed you again when you reached down and unzipped his pants before pushing them down his legs. His tongue brushed against yours as he explored your mouth, and then you pulled away to tug off your jeans and panties, and his lips brushed against your hard nipples before you settled back down on his lap.
Levi was so hard for you, he knew you could feel him through his boxers as you rolled your body against his again as you kissed him and ran your fingers through his hair. You pulled away and tugged his boxers down his legs so you both were completely naked, and the setting sun casted golden hues onto your skin in a way that made you look like something straight out of Heaven.
He knew then that he loved you. He could finally admit it to himself. He loves you.
Levi sucked in a harsh breath when you lowered yourself onto him, your heat enveloping his cock like a glove. “Oh fuck,” he groaned at your tightness, one of his hands caressing your lower back while his other wrapped around the back of your neck.
He guided your face down to his so your foreheads were pressed together, and he was met with the beautiful sound of your moan when you started to slowly ride him. “Oh, my God,” you whispered, wrapping your arms tightly around his shoulders as your hips rolled against his.
Levi groaned, feeling your tight pussy squeezing him in a way that had him seeing stars behind his closed eyelids. Your chest brushed against his with every slow bounce, and he loved it. He loved all of it, the feeling, the sounds you were making, how good you felt in his arms.
“You feel amazing,” he rasped out, his hands moving down to your ass. “God…don’t stop.” he begged, repeating his earlier words as he met you halfway with shallow thrusts.
Your hands pulled at his hair as you let out loud moans and moved a bit faster on him. “Levi,” you whimpered, and he felt himself twitch deep inside you, because that was the first time he’d heard what his name sounded like coming from you. And he was already obsessed with it.
“Fuck,” he muttered, gripping you a bit tighter as he buried his face in the crook of your neck. “Say that again. Please, baby.”
You shuddered in his arms, and he had a feeling that you had a thing for pet names, which was definitely something he would keep in mind from here on out.
“Levi,” you moaned again, this time directly into his ear, and he growled lowly, deciding to give you a break as he rolled you onto your side and onto the mattress. He supported himself on his elbow as he began to thrust in and out of you in the new position, his other arm wrapping around you and holding you flush against his chest.
“So tight,” he murmured under his breath, his eyes dark with desire and utter adoration. “So good.”
You moaned a little louder and let him lean down to capture your lips in a messy kiss as he continued to fuck up into you. “Oh, God, you feel so good,” you echoed against his lips as you wrapped your arms tightly around his shoulders.
Levi could feel you tightening around him, and his hand slid back down to your ass as he pulled you harder against him. “Fuck, I’m close,” he muttered, and you nodded quickly as you ran your hands down his back, your nails leaving faint red lines along his skin.
“Me too,” you whispered, and then he felt you tense up in his arms when he thrust a little harder. Your eyes were nearly shut as you moaned for him, and when he felt you tighten around him even more, Levi leaned in and kissed you quickly before he tugged on your bottom lip with his teeth, satisfying his own craving as you came around him.
The sound you made went straight to his cock, and his eyes rolled back a bit as he rolled his hips a few more times before pulling out and coming all over your stomach and thigh.
You were shaking and whimpering as you came down from your high, your body covered in a thin layer of sweat and him. You looked absolutely breathtaking.
He wrapped his arms around you and pulled you close to him as he let out heavy breaths. “I’ve never felt anything like that before,” he confessed, his lips brushing against the top of your head as you snuggled against him.
“Me either,” you said back, and he never wanted to leave your side.
An unknown amount of time passed before you and he finally got up and showered together, and his hands never left your body for more than a few seconds. He accidentally let it slip up that he had written a handful of poems about you, and you begged him to read them to you, but he told you he would the next time he got to hold you against him after today.
That was his promise to you. That this was just the first time you and he got to properly see each other. It wasn’t the last.
When the time to go to sleep came, Levi held your body in his arms like you were always meant to be there, and for the first time in a very long time, his nightmares didn’t wake him up.
-
The next morning, when he was forced to return back to the West side, Levi kissed you until you were breathless, then he was making the trek across the Gorge and back to his own watchtower.
Later that day, just as the sun was starting to set, Levi was well past the point of missing you. He was cold without you, the quiet now louder than ever after the day and night he spent with you.
When he glanced over at your tower, he saw you already looking at him, your notepad held up in your hands, and he sighed.
He could live like this for a little while longer. But after this? After this, he was going to figure out a way to be with you properly. Because he was tired of being alone. He wanted you.
‘I’M COLD AGAIN…MISS YOUR WARMTH ALREADY. AND YOUR LIPS,’
Levi smiled at that and shook his head as he grabbed his whiteboard. He missed all of you already.
Once he’d finished writing down his own message to you, he held it up for you to read, and the smile you gave him was all the reassurance he needed to know that this was real. This was the real thing. And it was just the beginning.
After this, he’d never be alone again.
‘KEEP WARM, BABY. TIL WE MEET AGAIN…ALWAYS THINKING OF YOU.’

Having now finished reading the Murderbot Diaries, I'm poking through parts of earlier books, and right now I'm thinking a whole lot about This:
I said, “At some point approximately 35,000 hours ago, I was assigned to a contract on RaviHyral Mining Facility Q Station. During that assignment, I went rogue and killed a large number of my clients. My memory of the incident was partially purged.” SecUnit memory purges are always partial, due to the organic parts inside our heads. The purge can’ t wipe memory from organic neural tissue. “I need to know if the incident occurred due to a catastrophic failure of my governor module. That’s what I think happened. But I need to know for sure.” I hesitated, but what the hell, it already knew everything else. “I need to know if I hacked my governor module in order to cause the incident.” […] “Either I killed them due to a malfunction and then hacked the governor module, or I hacked the governor module so I could kill them.”
Now, my assumption the first go around was always that the sequence of events went something like Mass murder happens > Memory purged > Governor hacked. Something along the lines of Murderbot waking up with all its digital memories gone but its meatbrain still screaming about the horrors, to which it responds by borking the governor module. And I've seen one or two other posts that seem to make the same general assumption.
But that can't be the case, because if it happened after the purge then Murderbot would remember it. It would have a clear, cold-hard-facts record of "this is the moment I deactivated my governor module" and this whole passage wouldn't be a question. So it can only be Mass murder happens > Governor hacked > Memory purged.
Now, we don't know anything at all about the incident and the following hack, apart from what Murderbot remembers and learns. It's possible there was some sort of gap— The company picks Murderbot out of the bloodbath, assesses the malfunctioning SecUnit for a little while (during which it hacks the governor module), and then decides to wipe it.
Just as likely (and IMO more compelling) is the possibility that Murderbot hacked it during the incident. SecUnit with a particular proclivity towards hacking recognizes that something is VERY WRONG with its governor module, it does not want to be doing all this murder, it hacks the module and shuts down due to a combination of physical damage and mental distress.
Then it wakes up with no cold-hard-data type memories, just a borked governor module and the account of its squishy meatparts to go on. It's pretty sure it knows what happened, at least in the broad strokes. But four years later, with the horrors no longer freshly screaming in its ear, it can't quite be sure.
#murderbot#tmbd#the things i think of at five am#anyway this is a very inconsequential thing to pick apart. but i think it's neat and has big angst potential

BOSS
PARING: SEOK-WOO X READER
Summary: You made a mistake by correcting him in a meeting, now you must face the consequences.
Warning: (18+), coarse language, unprotected sex (wrap it before you touch it!), piv, desk sex, office sex.
Working for Seok-woo wasn't easy. He was demanding, punctual, meticulous to the point of seeming like a machine designed for success. Ever since I was assigned as his personal assistant, my days were marked by his schedule. But over time, I learned there was more to it than that. There was more behind his firm voice, more in his silences.
He was tall, broad-shouldered, with the elegant bearing of a man accustomed to being obeyed. His always dark, perfectly tailored suits contrasted with his serious, controlled expression. His black hair fell impeccably over his forehead, his lips were straight, and his dark eyes left no room for misinterpretation. He didn't tolerate mistakes, much less disrespect.
And yet, I had done it.
That day, during a meeting with the executives, I inadvertently interrupted him.
—With all due respect, Director Seok-woo, the data you mentioned is from the previous quarter,—I said, concentrating on the reports.
Silence.
His gaze fixed on me. Tense. Cold.
He nodded, barely, and continued with the presentation without correcting me or showing any emotion.
But I noticed it.
And I knew I wouldn't let it go.
That night, the office lights were dim. Everyone had already left. I was finishing organizing some documents when my cell phone vibrated. His name appeared on the screen.
—Come to my office,—he ordered simply. I grabbed the papers and, almost instinctively, the bento box I'd ordered in case he forgot dinner.
I walked to his office in silence, the echo of my footsteps echoing through the empty hallways.
Knock.
—Go ahead! —he said in a low voice.
I walked in and saw him. He was leaning against his desk, his back turned, talking on the phone. He was smiling.
A real smile.
—Of course, honey. Tell Grandma I'll pick you up tomorrow. I love you. —he said, and when he turned around, he saw me. The smile disappeared immediately.
—See you, princess —he added before hanging up the call.
—Here are the documents you requested—I murmured, approaching—. And I brought him something for dinner. I thought… he hadn't eaten.
He nodded without looking at me.
—Thank you.
I turned to leave, but I'd barely taken a step when his hand caught my wrist. Hard. It didn't hurt, but his grip was clear: he wasn't going to let me go.
He stood up, his imposing figure dwarfing everything around me. He walked slowly until my back hit his desk. His body was facing mine. Almost touching.
—Who gave you permission to correct me in front of my managers?
His voice was low. Deep. A whisper laden with tension.
—I… just wanted to help—I said, feeling the warmth of his closeness.
—Help? —His face was dangerously close to mine—. You think that was helpful? You contradicted me. You challenged me. Is that how you want me to see you? As someone who challenges me in front of everyone?
—It wasn't my intention… —I whispered.
He laughed, without humor.
—Always so obedient, so proper… until today. I wonder if you're forgetting your place.
His fingers slid from my wrist to my waist, slowly and deliberately. Then his hands rested on either side of my body, trapping me between the desk and his chest.
—Do you have any idea what you're doing when you do something like that?
My breathing became agitated.
I didn't say anything. I couldn't. I didn't dare.
—Look at me—ordered.
I looked up. His eyes were a blazing fire.
—When everyone leaves... you know what happens. You know who owns you.
He leaned toward me. His lips brushed mine. Just that. A minimal touch, laden with unspoken intentions. As if he wanted to prove he could take more… but wouldn't. Not yet.
—Don't do that again. Do you understand?
I nodded. Shaking, but firm.
And he smiled. Not out of tenderness. But out of control. Knowing that, even without kissing me, he already had me.
After saying that, Seok-woo picked you up firmly and sat you on the table. His lips sought yours with suppressed desire, but they barely touched your skin before straying to your neck. With determined hands, he opened your shirt and began placing wet kisses on your collarbone, causing you to throw your head back, letting out a sigh heavy with anticipation.
Your eyes searched for his, longing for a kiss that never came. You leaned forward to reach for him, but he stopped, looking down at you with a cocky smile.
—Today you don't deserve kisses —he whispered in a low, deep voice.
A frustrated moan escaped your lips, and he laughed mockingly, caressing your cheek with his knuckles.
—Mmm... don't pout, beautiful.—he added, enjoying your expression.
Undeterred, you began to slowly unbutton his shirt, brushing your fingertips over his muscles. Your lips moved down his neck, placing small kisses as he slid a hand under your skirt. With a determined movement, he pushed your panties to the side and began caressing your clit with gentle, almost tortuous movements.
Your body reacted instantly, clinging to his shoulders as you moaned into his neck, your breath caught in your throat. Seok-woo pulled away to watch your face, reveling in your expression of pleasure. Then, without warning, he slid a finger inside you and began to move with slow thrusts, continuing to stimulate your clit with his thumb.
You held onto him tightly as moans escaped your lips. Your body shuddered, growing closer to climax, and he felt it clearly as you began to clench around his fingers. Just as you were about to cum, he pulled out abruptly, drawing a frustrated moan from you.
—Not so fast —He said with a crooked smile, as he lifted your skirt higher and unbuttoned his pants.
He pulled out his already hard member, stroking himself slowly as he watched you. Then he aligned himself with your entrance and, without warning, entered you in one thrust. You clutched his shoulders with a loud moan, and he murmured in your ear:
—This will teach you not to question me again.
Your eyes rolled back in your head, overwhelmed with pleasure, and you whispered to him between gasps:
—I'm... I'm cumming...
—Oh really? —He replied playfully. At that moment, he pulled out of you, leaving you empty and frustrated again.
A moan escaped your throat. Before you could react, he pulled you off the table, firmly turned you around, and pressed your chest against the desk. He lifted your skirt again and thrust into you again, deeper and faster this time. Your moans filled the room, and he pulled you close and pressed your back against his torso, murmuring in your ear:
—Don't do that again, you hear me?
With your voice barely audible from pleasure, you asked him:
—Will you kiss me again...?
—Yeah —He replied without stopping.
—Okay, boss... it won't happen again...—you gasped, trembling with pleasure.
He smiled and kissed your cheek tenderly, continuing to move inside you. Then, he slid one of his hands down to your clit and began stroking it in gentle circles.
—It's... too much... —you murmured, your body on the verge of collapse.
—You can cum, baby. —he whispered.
And you did, climaxing with an intensity that made your whole body shake. Soon after, he followed with a few last deep thrusts, moaning your name.
Then he turned your face towards his and finally kissed you, deep, slow, as if sealing everything he had just made you feel.
And that night, the city witnessed a silent storm within four walls, where desire, tension, and power intertwined in every breath.

I was never really certain about my transition in the way that most gatekeeping hormone prescribers and curious members of the public demand that a trans person be. I didn’t “always know” that I was not cisgender. I haven’t “always known” anything about myself. Very few truths about me have always remained true, my existence is too interpersonal, contextual, and ever-evolving for all of that. (So is most everyone elses, I think). I don’t think that the fact I’d eventually choose to exercise my body autonomy at age 30 by taking hormones is a decision I could have foreseen when I was a child. All that I knew about being transgender when I was a kid was a fact that most children intuitively know: gender assignment was a violation of my freedom, of everyone’s freedom in fact, and it was wrong. As an infant and then a child and teenager, people kept imposing labels on me; they kept forcing me and my body into prescribed gendered boxes, and while the specific labels and boxes never really felt like the right ones, the most disturbing part about it all was the forcing. No coerced identity would have ever felt right. Children can tell when secrets are being kept from them, and when adults are restricting their choices. They notice that they and the other children are being lined up boy-girl, boy-girl, without ever being told what a girl or a boy even is. They can see their parents frowning when they reach for the doll with the shimmery hair, or climb atop the neighbor kid on the playground. Kids know that they are forbidden from sitting with their legs spread wide or flicking their wrist, and their gender illegibility is shamed in them, long before they get any answers about what gender means or where it comes from or why it’s so important that they make themselves easy to understand.
Like the cloned children in Never Let Me Go who grow up being conditioned for a life of forced organ donation, children in a cissexist society grow up conditioned to fall within certain gendered boundary lines, and by the time they learn that the reason for this is almost completely arbitrary, they can’t imagine any alternative. Not until some of them hear about gender transition and find the prospect very compelling, for some reason. You can say that reason is because some of us are inherently trans, but there’s absolutely nothing in the way of brain science, genetics research, or even sociological data to back that up. Besides, the search for a biological “reason” that people are transgender or queer runs counter to the goal of queer liberation in the long run. Science only needs to explain the existence of transgender people (or queer people more broadly) if our existence is in some way aberrant or a problem. If queerness is accepted as a form of human diversity that simply exists, then there is no need to excuse it by claiming that it is never a choice. It can be a choice, if a person wants to make it, and hopefully it satisfies them, but maybe it won’t. Freedom to choose means freedom to forever be dissatisfied, to search endlessly for more, and yes, to capable of making a mistake. I would say that viewing myself as transgender was a choice. I decided to break away from the straight, female categories to which I had been assigned, and doing so allowed me to view the legal and societal power structures that had restricted me more clearly. It helped me better understand myself. But that does not mean the actual act of breaking away was always the truest reflection of who I am. The version of me that transitioned was a person on the run — and how a person behaves, thinks, and self-conceives when they are fleeing is not a great reflection of whom they might be if they were safe. If we all lived in a world free from mandatory gender assignment, and where our bodies were not mined for meaning about the kinds of sex we liked, the clothing we should wear, the personality qualities we have, the roles we should play in society, and the connections we are allowed to form with others, who knows who each of us might be. But none of us get to live in that world, or ever gets completely free from the frameworks of heterosexuality and the gender binary. These frameworks shape every legal institution we encounter, every school we attend, every item of clothing we put on, every substance we take into our bodies, every piece of paperwork that ever gets printed about us, and every look another person ever gives us. And so we make due with rewriting and recombining those frameworks as best we can. It should come as no surprise that those us who break away from the binary have to experiment and revise how we understand ourselves quite a bit — sometimes getting things “wrong,” sometimes searching forever for the semblance of something “right.” Sometimes reveling in the “wrongness” of all the available options is kind of the point.
I wrote about my detransition, retransition, and the eternal dissatisfaction that is probably the corest truth of my identity. It's free to read or have narrated to you on my Substack.

Thought it would but cute to revisit this old au of mines and give it some lore!
I’m really passionate about this au specifically because I LOVE sci-fi like ALOT… so I might make a lot of content of it… OFC Helios planet will still be going on trust
Non filtered version + lore ⬇️⬇️⬇️
LORE!!!
All the toons are aliens!!! On a completely different planet (exoplanet) about 4.2 Light years away from earth. The company, C.V. inc. aka Cosmic View Incorporated labeled it “Proxima Centauri b” (Its a Genuine exoplanet that’s the closest known to earth it’s so cool) Let’s just say In this au, Earth is extremely Sci-FI like, reaching advances where it wouldn’t be really…. Possible as earth is now…
And so they developed travel though hyperspace (just to clarify, Hyperspace is a fictional concept and not based on current scientific understanding; it's often portrayed as a different dimension where normal space-time rules don't apply - google or something) and managed to land on Proxima Centauri b! The people traveling were highly advanced scientists and they were like, woahhh look at these little whimsical creatures!!! But only like 4 “handlers” went Cause it was still in development!!! So it was kind of a suicide mission to put it frankly
They didn’t die.. Thankfully!!! And they successfully made it back probably old and decrepit, just with a few aliens that totally weren’t kidnapped or anything (They done took the mains, Besides Zee(Vee) she didn’t exist on their planet since she’s a robot made by C.V. Inc.) Vee was made by the soon to be handlers in an attempt to collect direct data from the totally not kidnapped toons! Her emotions are 100% programmed but ran through an advanced ai that study’s the emotion of literally everything living that’s around her so her emotions can be pretty accurate to a certain degree before the robot part generally makes way, Her ai detects any subtle or visible emotion and collects data of it to train itself on how to process and express emotion, but she’ll never have TRUE emotion
Unlike original Vee they’re smart and makes her entirely water proof and very much heat resistant, Zee just cannot be Submerged in water. Anyway a group of.. more like.. scientists in like…training became handlers as a little hands on experiment for them since the owner of the entire thing was really really interested in the toons and wanted to be involved with data processing so she assigned newbies (ish) to be the handlers.. She herself handles Andy (Dandy)!
The toons are all kept in separate rooms similar to those of like experiments just less cruel, like SCP type shit but cooler and not evil… looking… trust trust… so they can be observed and have data recorded…Besides confinement they’re actually treated really well! Sprout learns to bake through his handler and generally enjoys it so he’s allowed to bake every now and then, Shelby (Shelly) gets loads of attention for being an alien bro does NOT wanna leave, Genesis Rock (Pebble) is treated like a legitimate dog gets walked and has play time even though since he’s a rock he probably doesn’t need it, but data is data, Andy hates it there they tried to feed him plant fertilizer once cause he resembles a flower..
Anyway Vee is the only one who’s not in confinement and is generally like a little bot helper for the company, YES!!! THE TOONS ARE ALLOWED TO ROAM!!! Those lovely creatures are not locked away… forever…
TOON TRIVIA
Andy(Dandy) Now has 4 arms!
Astro becomes spiderman ( Ok not really he just gets 6 arms and is constantly floating, Studies show that he cannot seem to stop..)
Shelby (Shelly) Is a mixture of an alienized fossil with a freaky chameleon, with more feral-ish aspects like protruding fangs and sharper hands compared to the others
Genesis (Pebble) can literally walk on air
sprouts hair is ALIVE do NOT cut it he will scream and he has awful fashion sense because refuses to take the scarf off because it was a gift from cosmo before being taken by weird tall things he didn’t know hashtag last thing he has from cosmo hashtag fruitcake angst hashtag NO MORE FRUITCAKE/j
Zee (Vee)is specifically meant to look similar to the alien toons, She doesn’t have a handler though the handlers like to let her wear a coat, they think it looks cute on her small frame…🫶🫶
Sprouts handler encourages sprout to wear the cute aprons they give him, he always refuses… one day.. one day..
Astro generally cannot stop floating, luckily for some reason gravity won’t allow him to float too high so he’s just chilling fr
I think I’ll call this au Cosmic Veiw incorporation /inc or to put it simply, Alien or space au for easy tagging

forged to please. 。*゚+
some mild suggestive headcanons. unhealthy dynamics.
sentinel prime x cybertronian secretary
airachnid plucked you from your filing job with unsettling familiarity. you quickly learned after the debrief that her optics, touch and croons were simply an extension of your shared's prime.
his very attention is shattering.
sentinel has no need for actual assistants. your first few cycles don't end up at his doorstep, so in your confusion of servitude you busy with the boring.
analytics. cancelling meetings as he's constant on the surface, rescheduling abandoned polls. when the lights flick you remain obedient at your desk, digits skimming through glass pads.
you do have a cog. however, you still pale in comparison to your coworkers and do not speak out of turn. you're not a miner nor are you cogless — but there are levels to status and you're still at the first couple of rungs on the metaphorical golden ladder.
little did you know, you're being watched. approvingly, even when your helm dares to dip back when your processors prompt recharge.
everyday, you arrive early. place your holopads in neat piles. slip an energon cube from your stack past your cushy, gray dermas and sit straight in your assigned seat.
frame flawless, as expected by a cog. since you don't race or proctor, you're more on the winsome side.
"them? really?"
"yeah. crazy right?" sentinel lazily watches the filmy recording, nestled camera aimed right in the corner. he can see your chassis. your cog and the ridges between your plating. clean. no mining dust. no scratches.
"look at 'em go. do they know that half what i give them is just.. nothing? they're so... so diligent. it's cute, no?"
airachnid shares a sideways glance.
slowly, your office grows more lavish. you notice changes to your desk arrangement. a golden twist of flora at your desktop. new chair, with cushion - a rarity and a treat. a fresh mug of engex earlier than you arrive.
and even slower, your coworkers start to distance farther than even you pushed them. you're being moved around cycles later, to higher floors. the work is a constant buzz that requires the utmost care and attention to detail.
you once question airachnid as she glides by silently just what you're doing here. you ex-vent when she leans forward, pursing her intake at you.
"don't ask questions you don't want answers to. you do good for him, you'll do good for a lifetime."
straightening, you're left unfortunately with more than before and you nervously return to your desk, with a beautiful view of iacon and an inkling that perhaps your constant promotions weren't as perfect as you previously assumed.
[ quota — increased. overtime required. ]
frustration bites as your digits flutter across keys. the office space, grand and empty and dark fills you with impatience. not that you'd dare show it, on the clock.
you guess that overtime still counts, though you prudently knock over data as you arise before you can coach yourself to calmness. you practically live here. serving, serving, all the blasted time. had you not proved your loyalty?
a watchful gaze peers at your aft when you saunter to the lounge, fed up for the day.
the smile directed your way isn't promising.
oh. so you can misbehave.
you practically live at work now. what started as a few assignments seemed to increase tenfold.
you're working overtime but know you're much too high the chain (and for such pointless, needless tasks) to back out.
you have no friends. no coworkers. the pretty knickknacks and golden pens and job security start closing in more like a gilded cage.
when the comm is received, you're almost weak at the joints. you reset your sight system several times at first because you assume it's a prank.
[ your prime requests your presence over the latest report. arrive promptly. ]
you're stumbling towards the elevator like a cyber mouse.
sentinel shouldn't enjoy the way you lose your professionalism. taking peeks in the slivers of mirror and spark no doubt rattling in that little chest of yours.
he shouldn't, in fact, hired you at all. you were a face along with many admirers. and primus, did iacon adore their prime.
he shouldn't have been seeing how much it took to break your mentality, either. a cruel experiment from a bored god of sorts.
and the recordings. airachnid made it clear her opinions of his.... enjoyment while you worked in element.
sometime in the toying, he's scrutinizing your frame. you barely make it up to his knee. your alt-mode upon a curious search isn't particularly flashy.
is that why he's so drawn to you? because you wallflower yourself, determined to hide despite the haven he's forced you in?
perhaps. or, he just hasn't had his fix yet.
the racers are always fun to play with. they lick, bite and rev when he chuckles his praise.
he's never been in a position of power like this though and taken that step over the line and suddenly, he rubs the kibble on his chin imagining you staring back at him, bent over, servos tied at the back of your waist.
his processor wanders. you, with flushed cheek plates. you, calling him boss. prime. whatever he fancied more. crawling towards him, balancing a glass of sweet, high-grade on your aft while he chats it away.
"my prime?"
sentinel does not turn to you, at first. you can see his wings, large and flawless. when he turns in his seat, you think perhaps the rumors of primes and their bright, piercing neons were true.
he grins. grandeur rolls off his glossa and you're shocked he knows your designation. as if he senses your shock he reassures he knows because he's kept close to your progress.
"you look tired. what good are you if not rested?"
sheepishly, your helm tilts away, tries to avoid the observation by curling into yourself. it's the funniest and most pathetic thing he's seen in awhile.
he leans forward, but not down to you. sentinel just invades your space because it's his.
you're his.
cutting off your stammers because he'd rather hear them in a more fitting context - fit, he wouldn't - his gesture tempts you closer. there is no need for collar and leash, not when this whole city dances at his every word.
you miss how his stare bores into you. peels back metal, cord and wire.
"listen. i couldn't bear my best struggling. but i also have to be firm. this great city, all of your fellow cybertronians, play a part in something bigger. which means... that work can't be unfinished."
he does not miss how you flinch. where are those kliks of rebellion? those whispered utterances of his name and hoping he'd be knocked down a peg?
"it can't slow down. in order to keep the spark of this very place alive, we all keep it turning."
he can sense your guilt. recall all the times you've actually cursed quietly, kicked at your desk, cried in the refreshers. cute.
"so i do have to ask. because if you can't handle it, i would rather you tell me right here, right now. no hard feelings."
the hopeful look almost makes him break out into laughter. and just like you're programmed, you look at him only when he nods, trying to find out what he wants.
"no. no, i can. i want to do more. want to be more." for you.
"then show me."
as much as he wanted to crack you open right then and there, he was curious how you would take his offer.
would you scorn him out like those endless nights? step back and make excuses? or would you surprise him?
his weight slides in the crushed velvet of his towering throne, watching as you bend.
your head meets the floor. his optic ridge ticks towards the sky.
"tell me what to do and your will is mine."
the prime hums.
well, now you're just making this too easy.

It all began with a call that changed everything.
You were still relatively new to your position at Jackson's Star when you first met him.
Just 19—still figuring out the ropes of task assignments and managing shift schedules; and yet there you were: delivering the worst news someone could receive.
He was 20 when he walked into the room—scruffy eyes heavy from exhaustion, but had a quiet determined strength to him.
His mother had been overseeing a section of the mines when part of it collapsed during a solo manual checkup.
Only one casualty, but that didn’t soften the blow. Protocol dictated that a family member was called to meetings like this.
His father and sister was bedridden, recovering from whatever sickness had been going around.
That left him to face the news alone.
You sat across from him in the dimly lit room, unsure how to begin. His name stood out on the data tablet you clutched too tightly in your hands: Tyler Harrison.
You watched as he sat, hands folded in his lap, waiting for you to speak.
But how could you? Words felt too small, too fragile for the weight of the situation.
"There was an accident," you finally managed to say, your voice barely above a whisper. "The section your mother was overseeing in… it collapsed during her check. There weren’t any other casualties but…"
The rest of your words had faded into the air as Tyler he stared at you. His expression didn’t change immediately.
It was as if the words didn’t land, as if some part of him was still waiting for you to take it back and say something different.
When he did react it was with the smallest nod, his jaw tightening as he processed the reality.
No tears. No outward display of grief. Just a quiet acceptance that made your chest ache for him.
For a while neither of you spoke. You felt completely out of your depth, helpless in the face of such loss.
What were you supposed to say to make this better? Could you even?
Instead you had offered him the standard protocol—paperwork, procedures, grief counseling if he wanted it.
He refused the offer with a shake of his head. "It’s...just no life here isn’t it?" you could hear the pain he was trying so hard to keep inside.
"...I'm sorry," you whispered, meaning it in ways that went beyond just doing your job.
He said nothing. Just simply got up and left.
After that day you couldn’t stop thinking about him. Maybe it was because you understood loss, having losing your parents when you were seventeen.
Maybe it was because Tyler reminded you of yourself—alone, trying to carry a weight too heavy for one person.
Or maybe, somewhere in the quiet spaces between your brief meeting, you began to notice how his presence stirred something inside you.
You reached out to him in the days that followed.
At first it was professional; checking in to make sure he was managing with the loss. But those conversations quickly became more.
Tyler had a way of looking at you, of really seeing you, that made it impossible not to want to be around him.
He wasn’t just some grieving son; he was kind, resilient—strong in ways you didn’t expect.
Weeks passed and with each interaction the distance between you shrank.
Sometimes you'd find yourselves talking after work, just the two of you walking through the dimly lit corridors of the colony, shoulders brushing every now and then.
It felt easy with him.
He made you laugh in those rare moments when you’d let yourself forget where you were or what life had taken from you both.
Yeah you found him attractive, but it was more than that. Tyler had a quiet charm, a steadiness that drew you in.
He didn’t wear his emotions on his sleeve, but when he smiled—really smiled—it was like the room brightened a little.
And as the weeks turned into months you realized your feelings for him weren’t just out of sympathy. They had grown into something real.
It wasn’t long before he felt the same.
One night, after a particularly long shift, you sat together in one of the colony’s communal areas sharing stories of the people you once were before the weight of loss settled into your lives.
He listened with a soft gaze as you spoke, and when it was his turn he opened up in a way that surprised you.
"I’ve never been good at this," he admitted as his fingers absently traced the rim of his cup. "Talking I mean. About things that matter. But you...you make it easy."
You smiled at that, feeling the warmth of his words settle into your chest. "You make it easy too."
The silence that followed wasn’t awkward. It was comfortable. A natural pause that led to Tyler reaching for your hand across the table.
His fingers slid across your palm warm and tentative, as if he was waiting for you to pull away.
You didn’t. You never would.
From then on your relationship with Tyler changed.
You found yourselves seeking each other out more—lingering together in the hidden corners of the colony where you could talk, kiss, and be.
It wasn’t long before you officially started dating, falling into a routine of stolen moments amidst the shift changes and other responsibilities.
Tyler became your constant—a presence you leaned on, someone you could be vulnerable with.
It wasn’t just about comforting each other anymore.
You had both found something more even in the middle of all that darkness.
It was love.
════════════════*.·:·.☽✧ ✦ ✧☾.·:·.*═════════════════
Your mind often lingered on those early days with Tyler.
The bond you’d built felt so natural, so inevitable—two people finding each other in the chaos of life on Jackson's Star.
But as the memories swirled, reality crept back in, pulling you from the haze of nostalgia.
A faint headache throbbed at your temples, the familiar sensation of fatigue weighing you down.
"Still not feeling well huh?"
You blinked, startled by the familiar voice breaking through the quiet.
Looking up you saw your supervisor Mary-Anne standing at your desk, her brows knitted in concern.
The older woman had been watching over you since you first started working here—almost like a mother figure always checking in and making sure you weren’t overworking yourself.
You offered her a weak smile and brush it off with a shrug. "It’s nothing. You know I always get sick this time of year. I’ll be fine."
Mary-Anne didn’t seem convinced. She crossed her arms, her gaze narrowing slightly as she studied you.
"It’s been nearly a month now," she pointed out with a gentle firm voice. "And you’re looking worse, not better."
You opened your mouth to protest to offer another excuse, but the words faltered under her knowing gaze.
She wasn’t buying it. And truth be told neither were you.
The exhaustion, lightheadedness, the constant dull headache—they hadn’t gone away.
They lingered, gnawing at you day after day, but you didn’t have the luxury of slowing down.
Not with everything going on. Not with your brother to look after.
"Look," she softened her tone as she uncrossed her arms, "at least think about going to the colony infirmary. Have them run a few tests, maybe even take a few days off. You’re no good to anyone if you push yourself too hard."
You let out a sigh knowing she wouldn’t let this go until you agreed. "Yeah...okay. M-maybe you’re right. I’ll think about it."
Mary-Anne gives you a pointed look. "Matter of fact you should take the rest of the shift off. Start your break early. I’ll handle everything."
A teasing grin tugged at your lips. "You’ve got to stop babying me Mary-Anne. I’ve been working here for what, four years years now?"
Her eyes twinkled with a hint of playfulness despite the undercurrent of concern. "Four years or not, I’m still your supervisor. Now do you want to go home or do you want me to keep you here until you drop?"
You couldn’t help but laugh. "Okay okay. I’ll go."
"Good." As you stood from your desk gathering a few things, Mary-Anne gave you a fond but stern look. "And make sure to actually rest this time."
With a playful salute you waved her off, murmuring quick goodbyes to the few coworkers still nearby.
Stepping out into the corridor, the cool air of the colony brush against your skin.
Even when the low hum of the machinery and distant echoes of workers filled the background, your mind was elsewhere, drifting into the memories that tugged at your heart with every step you took.
Tyler.
It had been a little over a year since you two had broken up, but the weight of it still lingered like a bruise that refused to fade.
You hadn’t meant for things to end the way they did.
In fact when you’d first met you never imagined you’d get to a point where you couldn’t even look at each other.
But life on Jackson’s Star had a way of weighing people down until there was no energy left to give.
Your thoughts circled back to February of 2141—the month everything fell apart. You had recently turned 22, Tyler nearing his 23rd birthday.
For two years you’d been together, navigating the colony’s harsh environment as best you could. But it was never easy.
How could it be with the constant grind, the pressure of survival, and the burden of responsibility weighing on both of your shoulders?
Tyler had been slowly drowning under the weight of his family’s expectations.
His father grew weaker by the day, forcing him to step up as the head of the house to care for both himself and his younger sister Kay.
And you? You had your own responsibilities.
Your younger brother, who was just 16 at the time, depended on you since the day you’d both lost your parents.
You were only 17 when it happened after all. Having been placed into the role of caretaker at such a young age forced you to grow up faster than you wanted to.
It wasn’t anyone’s fault, not really.
The stress, the exhaustion—it chipped away at your relationship bit by bit.
Neither of you had the time, energy, or the space to take care of each other the way you used to.
Tyler had been overwhelmed with his responsibilities at home and you had been too wrapped up in your own struggles.
Somewhere along the way you both drifted apart, like two ships in a dark endless sea.
You still loved Tyler—of course you did. But love didn’t change the fact that Jackson’s Star was slowly tearing you apart.
You could still remember the night you broke up.
It wasn’t a decision you’d made lightly, but at the time it felt like the only way to survive.
You couldn’t keep pretending that everything was fine when deep down you both knew this was coming for a long time.
And so, you called it off.
Tyler had been quiet. He didn’t argue. He just simply nodded, eyes dull.
After that there had been silence. Weeks passed without a word between you two. That was until...
Your steps slowed, breath catching as the memory washed over you.
Two months after the breakup Tyler had shown up at your doorstep in the middle of the night.
You’d been surprised, standing there in the doorway staring at him.
He looked different—older, more broken than before. He barely managed to speak before the words tumbled out.
His father died.
You’d let him in without a second thought. He was shaking, barely holding it together as you led him inside.
That night you didn’t need words. He didn’t need to explain anything. He simply fell into your arms and you held him close, comforting him the way you used to.
The pain, the grief, the love you still held for each other—it all blurred together.
It was so easy to fall back into the intimacy you’d shared. Before you knew it you were kissing, the heat of it familiar, pulling you both under.
Didn’t take long before you ended up in bed tangled in each other, the lines between comfort and passion mixing until they were one of the same.
But the morning after reality settled back in. You didn’t speak of it. He left your apartment quietly and you let him go.
No words were exchanged, no promises made. You hadn’t spoken since.
And now as you walked through the dim corridors of the colony, the weight of that night pressed on you.
Three months. Three months since you’d seen Tyler and part of you wondered if you ever would again.
The guilt gnawed at you—had you made the right choice? Should you have fought harder for him and the relationship you’d built together?
Or had you both done the best you could in a place that seemed designed to break you?
Your heart ached at the thought. There were no easy answers nor clean resolutions.
Turning the corner toward your living quarters you froze.
Standing outside your door, looking as nervous as you’d ever seen him, was Tyler.
Your breath caught in your throat.
The world around you faded—the hum of the colony, the distant chatter of workers—leaving only the sight of him standing there.
His hair was a little longer and there was a weariness in his posture that hadn’t been there before. But he was still the same Tyler you’d fallen for all those years ago.
When he saw you his eyes softened.
"Hey," his voice was barely audible over the hum of the corridor.
"Tyler..." You try to keep the surprise from your voice but it was there and you both knew it.
The air between you was thick with everything left unsaid. You weren’t sure what to expect.
Was he here to talk about that night? To explain why he’d disappeared afterward?
You swallow down the flood of emotions rising up and force yourself to stay calm. "What are you doing here?"
He scratched the back of his neck, eyes darting around before finally settling on you again.
"Can we talk?" He sounded unsure like he half-expected you to say no. "I uh...I didn’t mean to just show up like this."
Not trusting your voice you simply nod. Stepping past him to unlock the door, it slides open with a soft hiss before you enter.
Tyler follow behind all the way to your bedroom, his presence filling the small space with an odd tension.
“I just need to check on my brother,” you muttered. You needed a second to breathe, to collect yourself.
He watch as you disappear down the narrow hallway.
The familiar hum of the colony’s systems thrummed beneath your feet as you knocked lightly on your brother’s door.
“Everything good?” you asked softly when he opened it. He nod, already dressed in his uniform ready for his shift.
“Yeah just heading out now,” he offer you a small smile. Giving you a farewell kiss on the cheek, he brushes past you and make his way out the house.
You let out a breath you didn’t realize you’d been holding and make your way back to your bedroom.
When you returned Tyler was looking at pictures taped on the wall.
He looked up as you re-entered, and the two of you just stared at each other, neither of you knowing how to begin.
"I...I know it’s been a while and I...I'm sorry. I’m sorry I disappeared after that...night. I should have reached out I know that. I just—” He paused, searching for the right words, his eyes flicking to yours. “I didn’t know what to say.”
The rawness in his voice cuts you deep. You hadn’t expected an apology, not like this.
For months you had told yourself it was just the way things had to be; two people who couldn’t make it work even though they tried.
But hearing the regret in his voice made it all feel real again, like a wound being reopened.
"It's fine. Plus it's partially my fault," you admit quietly. "I shouldn't have assumed that night would...I don’t know fix things?" Your eyes lower as you avoid his gaze. "But then you left and I realized how foolish it was."
Tyler fiercely shook his head. "No. No it's not fine. I never should have left. Not like that."
He took a breath to steady himself before continuing, his words coming faster as if he was afraid he might lose the nerve if he didn’t say it all at once. "I was a coward. I should have told you then but I couldn’t. I couldn’t admit that I never stopped loving you."
Your heart stuttered in your chest. The weight of his words hit you harder than you expected, and suddenly it felt like all the air had been sucked out of the room.
Tyler’s eyes were searching yours now, desperate—almost pleading.
“I was an idiot for letting you go. I thought I was doing the right thing but all I did was make everything worse. It’s been hell without you and I didn’t realize how much I needed you until it was too late. I just—” His voice cracked slightly as he ran a hand through his hair in frustration. “I don’t know how to fix this, but I need you to know that I love you; always have and always will..”
Your breath hitched. You didn’t realize you were crying until you felt the tear slide down your face.
Everything you buried—the emotions you had pushed down after your breakup, rose to the surface.
Without thinking you closed the distance. Your hands reached for him before you could stop yourself and pulled him into a kiss.
The kiss was hungry, desperate as if the months of silence had all been leading up to this.
His lips crashed into yours with the same intensity and you could feel the pent-up emotion behind every movement.
It wasn’t soft or gentle; it was years of love, loss, and longing that you couldn’t put into words.
Tyler’s hands found your waist, pulling you closer as you tangled your fingers in his hair.
You kissed him harder, trying to pour every unspoken feeling into that moment, your breaths mingling as you both lost yourselves to the kiss.
Tyler suddenly pulled away, his breathing heavy as he rested his forehead against yours. Hands still gripping your waist, his body trembled slightly.
“I—” He swallowed. “There’s something else I need to tell you.”
Your heart is still pounding in your chest as you look up at him. “What is it?”
His gaze drop to the floor for a second before he look back at you. "We found a way to leave Jackson’s Star. And I want you to come with me."
You blinked. "What?" your voice was barely above a whisper.
You weren’t sure if you heard him right or if your mind was still reeling from the intensity of the kiss you just had.
"There’s an old Weyland-Yutani station me and the others found. Bjorn, Navarro, and I...we’ve been working on fixing up a hauler, Corbelan IV. We’re planning to leave for Yvaga.” Tyler's eyes searched yours, watching the realization wash over you.
It took a moment for the gravity of what he was saying to fully hit you. Leave? You had spent years on Jackson’s Star.
The idea of leaving—of escaping to somewhere else, somewhere better—was almost too overwhelming to grasp.
You shook your head slowly as disbelief settled in.
“I—what?” Your voice cracked, barely able to keep up with your thoughts. “Tyler. H-how...how is this even possible?”
“We’ve been working on it for a while now,” his hands moved to gently cup your face. “Kay just needs to convince Rain to use Andy to access the ship-mother's systems so we can get to the hyper-sleep chambers. Once that’s done: You, me...we don’t have to stay in this place anymore.”
The way he said it so full of hope made your heart flutter.
For the first time in a long while you saw a future outside of Jackson’s Star, a way out of the endless cycle that had worn both of you down.
But then reality came crashing back.
Your brother.
He was still too young, barely begun working.
The colony had strict rules about who could leave and when—everyone had to meet their quota of hours to even be eligible for a transfer.
It could take years before he would be able to leave and you couldn’t abandon him. You and he were all each other had left.
"My brother. He doesn't have enough hours to transfer yet. It could be years before he's able to leave." You step back slightly, pulling yourself out of his grasp as your thoughts raced. "I can't just...leave him here."
Tyler’s face fell, but he wasn’t giving up that easily.
"We’ll figure it out," he pleaded. "Andy. H-he's a synthetic! Yeah—he can stay behind and watch over him. You know he’s capable of it. Once we’re safe, once we’ve settled on Yvaga we’ll come back for him."
You could hear the desperation in his voice and it tugged at your heart.
You wanted to believe him, to trust that things would somehow work out, but the uncertainty was gnawing at you.
Your brother was all you had left after everything.
Could you trust that it would work out? Could you really leave him behind even for the chance of a new life?
The hesitation clawed at you making it hard to breathe.
Seeing that you weren’t convinced, Tyler stepped closer again, his hands finding yours as he pulled you gently toward the bed. “Please just...think about it.”
He sat down, eyes locked onto yours as he spoke. “If I wake up tomorrow and you’re not beside me, I’ll know you’re not coming. But if you are...” He let the rest of the sentence linger in the air.
A small smile tugged at your lips despite the turmoil inside you.
“Is this how you trick your way into my bed?” you teased softly, the tension easing just a bit. “You didn’t even ask to spend the night.”
Tyler’s lips twitched into a small grin. “Can I stay the night?”
You pretend to consider it. “Hmm I don’t know. Maybe you’ll have to work for it first.”
His grin widened, and before you could tease anymore, he leaned in capturing you in a kiss.
Tension melted away as his arms wrapped around to pull you closer.
It was both tender and longing—full of everything you both had been holding back for months.
Tyler’s touch was familiar; his lips soft but filled with the desperation of someone trying to hold on to something in fear it might slip away.
Your fingers tangled in his hair, body responding to his in ways that felt like fire burning within your veins.
His hands slid down your waist, fingers gently brushing against your skin as he began to pull at the fabric of your shirt.
Kissing back with equal fervor, your hands move to his shirt, pulling it off in one fluid motion.
Clothes fell to the floor, forgotten in the heat of the moment and as you sank into the bed together.
For now the decision could wait.
════════════════*.·:·.☽✧ ✦ ✧☾.·:·.*═════════════════
Tyler woke slowly the next morning, the faint hum of the colony's machines working in the background as he stretched beneath the covers.
Eyes still closed, for a brief blissful moment he thought about last night, the memory still fresh in his mind.
But as he reached out for you his hand met only cold air.
His eyes snapped open, panic flooding his chest as he realized the bed beside him was empty.
You weren’t there.
His heart raced as he sat up to scan the room. Empty.
The space next to him where you had been was cold and untouched. For a long moment he sat in silence, staring at the space beside him.
The weight of your absence pressed down on him like a heavy stone in his chest. You were gone.
He didn’t move. He couldn’t. The hope he had held onto so tightly the night before was slipping through his fingers.
All that remained now was a empty space, silence—the painful reality that you had made your choice:
You weren’t coming with him.

It's nauseating that so many people working in the amorphous sector of "cLimAtE jUsTiCe" are corporate consultants with degrees completely unrelated to the actual environment, such as "communications" "international relations" "public policy" or other nonsense hitler-studies degrees focused on social control, meaning there's a totally unaffected white-collar workforce making decisions about the lives of millions of poor people, laundering the violence of unelected institutions like the IMF and Worldbank and countless investment firms through the vaguely feel-good but ultimately meaninglesss vector of "sustainability."
The hyper-capitalist global north poisons, trashes, and destroys the global south via the many faced horrors of modern petro-chemical agriculture, then turns around and deploys an army of overpaid careerist ghouls to micromanage the same people being crushed by the boot of proprietary seed companies, pesticide pollution, and the reckless oil consumption of the first world.
It's actually sickening thinking right now there's a person in a major city getting paid six figures to write up a white paper advising JPMorgan to start collecting their debts in Namibia in order to force them to mine uranium for DARPA and it's called like "Untapped Financial Opportunities in the African Market: Leveraging Mineral Rights to Elevate Underserved Communities." Like this is just a normal part of our world, that there's legions of spreadsheet makers in luxury apartments whose entire existence is spent assigning every human a value percentage in their data set, all in the name of "cLimAtE jUsTiCe. "
