You carry parts of past lives with you. You can't help it, you're made up of all the people you've loved before.

A reset theory idea I revived from a years-old draft about picking up traits from people you spend a lot of time around (as I'm quite prone to doing🤭).

There has always been this strange familiarity to you. Even back in the early days, it always felt like you were someone Saeyoung had known for years.

He likes to tease you about being easy to read, but it's more than that. The things he recognises in you are things he has grown to love so much in his closest friends.

He loves to tell silly jokes just to hear you laugh. When he promised you a life that would be happy and without worry, he meant it. Your laugh is infectious, addicting even. A laugh from you is an affirmation to someone as insecure as him.

It took him a while to catch on to the way your giggles resemble Yoosung's sometimes. It's not every time, but more than enough times to be a noticeable quirk of yours. The slight hiss of air escaping through your teeth, the precursor to a proper, real laugh.

That was the first parallel he drew. But it was not the last.

He thought he was imagining things at first, making connections where there weren't any to be made. But then you teasingly called him honey for the first time, truly affectionate and sugary-sweet and it was impossible to not think about how he had seen Zen do the same thing before to make fans of his blush. Of course, this trick worked just as well on him when you did it. When you were in these moods, you were magnetic, more so than even Zen could be.

There is something about how, during discussions, you pause to gather your thoughts right before you're about to conclude a point. You have told him you do it to try and collect your thoughts into a coherent sentence so you don't jumble everything up. He thinks it's smart (and cute). It's something he is trying to implement in his life now.

He also knows it's something Jumin practices and advises others to do too. On occasion, during RFA gatherings, Saeyoung watches you and Jumin have a conversation and fall into similar patterns of speech. It's mesmerising, like watching two mirror images.

It is only after a few years, after getting closer to Jaehee at all that realises there are similarities between the two of you too.

He sees a small echo of her in the way that you tackle challenges, not just the resilience he has always known you're capable of but the way you can dissect a problem down to its core and handle it piece by piece. In the tone and cadence you use when instructing others, kind but deliberate, with no room for doubt.

But she's also in your excitement, in the way your voice builds up and rises in pitch when you're talking about something you love. If it wasn't something he recognised from your first weeks together, he'd attribute it to your many musical movie nights.

It wouldn't be fair to say that these traits are identical to theirs. They're things that are so inherent to you, he couldn't imagine you without your funny hiss-laugh or the cadence of your voice when you're measuring out your words. He finds comfort all the same in the little overlap between you and his friends. It may puzzle him sometimes, but he wouldn't change it for the world.

The cherry on the cake was one day when you were chatting and you scrunched your nose before telling a joke, in the same way he knows he does sometimes. His heart swelled three sizes that day and he wouldn't stop teasing you about it.

Ray's After Ending is so funny because for a good chunk of it, most of the RFA members are knocked out by V's sleeping gas (Saeran is immune, Saeyoung isn't present bc he was kidnapped by his agency under his father's orders and MC wakes up in like an hour) but the game has a call feature where you can call the characters and it would be a waste if you couldn't use it bc the characters were unavailable so instead they have other people pick up the call (Jumin's driver picks up Jumin's phone, Jumin's father picks up Zen's phone, Yoosung's friends and mom pick up Yoosung's phone and Jaehee's coworkers pick up Jaehee's phone) and we do get to learn about the characters from outsider's point of view but it's so funny to me that these people are visiting their loved ones and suddenly the phone rings and they decide to just. answer it. and start talking to this stranger they've never met

which member of the rfa do you think would be willing to pull some “fake dating” with the mc??

i’ve seen this fanfic trope sooo many time and it got me wondering, like fake date for a wedding and everything lmaooo

I think it hugely depends on the situation. Someone like Jumin Han wouldn’t be likely to pretend to date someone because he values the idea of romance a lot in his heart, and the act of pretending would feel disingenuous. So, unless you had an idea for a story where he falls into this outcome, he’s one of the least likely to fall into this trope.

Jaehee would also be less likely given the fact that she’s often busy with her job and her free time is filled with hobbies to detox from long hours of unbelievable tasks. She isn’t the type to need someone to pretend to be her partner, either. Is there any need for that? She wouldn’t think so given the fact that nobody’s ever asked her about her life. Her private life would be private to most people, if not all people who know Jaehee.

Seven has said time and time again he cannot date anyone. He isn’t allowed to have bonds or weaknesses. The agency and everybody he’s ever fought would use them as leverage against him. The only reason he would have to pretend to date anyone would be if he would on a mission that required him to do so. Now, I can see that as him going with another agent, or using someone as a means to get to a target he needs to take down. But, that’s it for him.

V is too busy trying to clean up his and Rika’s messes to date anyone. No, but, really, he is a person who clearly takes a long time to warm up to someone when he’s in love and it wouldn’t be easy for him to fake dating someone. He doesn’t have a need to pretend to date someone since most people understand that he is grieving the loss of his fiance. It doesn’t make much sense for him to need a partner for this situation.

Yoosung might have a need for it. Is his mother hounding him about getting a date? Does he feel insecure because his Guild members have partners and he doesn’t? Is there a situation that would be awkward and lonely if he showed up without a date in tow? His life is the least complicated in terms of having room for this trope to work logically. So, yes, you could talk him into this, and he might not mind either way since he loves helping others if you needed a fake partner. He’ll be the one to catch feelings first, though.

Zen is an actor and performer in an idol culture where the thought of your bias being in love with someone isn’t you can cause some serious problems. It’s very hard to imagine him needing to fake a date for any reason. It’s not like he can’t go out with anyone he wants, he’s a handsome man who could get any date he wanted, but he’s married to his work and waiting for the right person. On top of his work industry not being great for your partner, he would feel disingenuous to fake a relationship. If a studio told him to fake date someone for publicity, he is the type to quit the production or refuse flat out.

Sorry I forgot to post about finishing Saeran's AE. ! !SPOILERS! !

-It was wonderful. I loved every bit of it. Except for the endings, I don't understand how the normal end wasn't the good end. I feel like they should've called the good ending "Happy Ending" considering it had the best outcome overall of them. Vanderwood joined the RFA, Jumin became president, Yoosung became a baker, Zen's career hit off, I feel bad for Jaehee because NGL I forgot what happened sorry, Rika decided to actually change herself, Both V and Rika went to prison. In the end the twins finally got their freedom. Saeyoung escaped both the agency and his father getting to finally reunite with his brother. Getting the happy ending they wanted. All of them stayed single but were happy. [I guess you could say, they lived, "Happily ever after" Ha Ha Ha... I'm a genius (⁠☆⁠▽⁠☆⁠)]

The normal end, Saeran proposed promising himself to MC and the twins still got their freedom. NEED I SAY MORE?!?! How is that not a good ending??? He’d be the type to propose to you on valentines, and so if you’re not already married/engaged, he’d be there, down on one knee at dinner with a ring box in hand.

I imagine he’d take a day off of work, and while not as romantic as Jumin, he would try his damn hardest to make the day about you.

Flowers, your favourite flowers, in the morning when he comes over to see you, along with a valentines teddy bear that’s probably way too big to fit in your bed.

A card with a sweet note telling you how much he appreciates and loves you.

Will play music and dance around with you in your front room.

And if you get him something in return, he’d softly smile, telling you just how wonderful you truly are.

Lunch at a quaint cafe, ordering sweet treats for the two of you, definitely trying out their valentines special.

He’d take you to the cinemas or a theatre to watch something, obviously romantic, maybe a rom-com.

When you come home, he’d run you a nice warm bath with scented candles and bubbles.

He treats you like royalty the whole day.

You two definitely have an indoors date.

But he gives you a stuffed toy and a valentines card at first, and then for the rest of the day?

Okay, I feel like there’s two ways this could go so I’ll do both.

But no matter what, he’d get you chocolates and or icecream to start your day.

If you get him something, he’d be grinning like mad, just so thankful he has you in his life.

First off, a movie date at home.

I imagine he has one of those big projector things and so he projects it onto a blank wall.

Puts in a movie he thinks you’d both enjoy, it doesn’t even have to be a romantic movie, it can be horror or whatever aslong as he knows you would like it.

But that’s if it’s later in the relationship; he’s a major introvert and would definitely feel more comfortable inside.

However, if it’s earlier in the relationship, he would push himself out of his comfort zone to impress you more.

Takes you to a theme park!!

Probably makes you go on all the big and scary rides (sorry).

But he takes those photobooth pictures with you! And they’re so cute.

Definitely has one where you’re kissing.

Would put it on his wall/in his phone case.

He just loves looking at you.

I also feel like, whether it’s movies or a theme park, he would take you star gazing after.

I’m not sure why, it just feels like a very him thing to do.

Something is off.

You’re happy the preparations for the RFA party are going well, especially since it’s the last one of the year. A banquet of winter-themed desserts and savory snacks had been set out to the side, along with festival centerpieces on each table.

There had even been mistletoe hung around the room, much to Jaehee’s chagrin—she believed it was too unprofessional, and you were inclined to agree with her. But in this world, majority rules, and with Zen, Yoosung, and Saeyoung wanting to keep the mistletoe up and Jumin abstaining, they stayed.

But that wasn’t the part that was bothering you.

What was bothering you were the probing looks both Zen and Saeyoung had been sending you the whole party, and how Yoosung had been avoiding you entirely.

You weren’t dense. You had a feeling it had something to do with the mistletoe and the crush you’d long suspected he’d harbored for you, but he was still mourning Rika and you didn’t want to seem arrogant by asking him something as bold as that.

And so, you kept it to yourself.

Soon enough, Jaehee goes to get the guests and Jumin follows her. Zen goes to talk to the press, and Saeyoung leaves to go meet the Long Cat meme he asked you to invite. Before you know it, you’re left alone with Yoosung, and you’d be lying if you said you didn’t find some twisted enjoyment in watching him squirm.

“Hey, uh...would you like to head over and grab some drinks?” Yoosung asks, pink dusting his cheeks as he jabs his thumb towards the banquet table.

Giving him your best winning smile, you nod.

“Sure, Yoosung.” you say, linking your arm with his and allowing him to guide you over.

Once again, you aren’t dense. You can clearly see the mistletoe hanging above the end of the banquet table that has all the drinks, and you don’t miss the shake in Yoosung’s arm either. He shakes even after you’re both standing directly under it, even after he's poured you a drink, and even after you’ve poured his (both of you had insisted—if any of the other members were around you, you’re certain they would have teased Yoosung.)

But you know him. And you know his confession is imminent, and that he will tell you how he feels when he’s ready.

Patience is key.

And that patience pays off when he whispers your name.

Suddenly, it's like the rest of the party disappears, because Yoosung has set down his drink and you’ve set down yours because you know, and he’s slowly taking your hands in his and staring at your intertwined fingers because he can’t look at you.

“Would you like to kiss under the mistletoe?” he asks, eyes finally meeting yours, and on his face you see his bashful, boyish smile.

“Of course. I thought you’d never ask.” you beam, and before he can allow the shock of you reciprocating to get to him, you kiss him right on the mouth, guiding his clumsy lips as they fumble over yours.

Yoosung doesn’t know how to kiss. But he can learn, and he will, because you’ll kiss him every day from now on.

Don't Tell

Jaehee Kang finds herself frustrated as she lies on her couch, in the dark, staring up at the ceiling. The house is quiet, minus the occasional gust of wind that echoes outside of her house. Her phone lies on the coffee table, buzzing- probably notifications from the RFA chatroom, but she can’t bring herself to check them right now.

She’s coming off of a terrible fight with you. You, her best friend. You, the person who helped her start her coffee shop. You, the only other person who works at the shop every hour it’s open during the day.

And, you, the person she’s had a crush on since the two of you met. 

You and Zen are getting closer. Anyone would be a fool not to notice it. You and Zen got along from the moment you joined the RFA, but lately, Jaehee can’t help but notice how you rush out of work to go hang out with Zen more than you used to, how you constantly address him in the chatrooms, how often you or the actor send selfies of the two of you hanging out together… And Jaehee sees him often, too. In fact, Zen is one of her closest friends aside from you. 

Jaehee knows that she isn’t in love with him. 

Sadly, she has no guarantee about your feelings.

So, whenever the subject comes up, Jaehee strongly discourages Zen from dating anyone- especially you- using whatever excuse she can come up with. Dating is bad for Zen’s career. Dating Zen would make him lose his fans. Dating Zen would make paparazzi and journalists target you for tabloid stories constantly. It would be a lose-lose situation.

But really, she would be the only one losing out. Zen would be happy, you would be happy, and his true fans would be loving and supportive of his new relationship. You’re great people who deserve each other… Jaehee just wants to be selfish with you, though. 

Every time she notices you and Zen getting a little too close, she interjects, and there seems to be no real consequences for it. Zen says he’d love to date but that he sees you as a friend, you say that you don’t have feelings for Zen, and the chat moves on.

This time, things went down differently.

You lost your mind, flipping out on Jaehee, telling her that your romantic feelings are none of her business. Telling her that Zen can date whoever he wants. And then, you told her to give you space and left the chat.

To Jaehee, your over the top reaction confirms your romantic feelings for Zen. So, she lies on her couch and ignores the messages that leave her phone incessantly vibrating on the coffee table- at least until there’s a knock on the door.

Jaehee quickly wipes her tears from her eyes with the sleeves of her sweater and goes to the front door. Upon peeking out the blinds of her living room window and seeing that it’s Zen with two paper bags of bungeoppang in hand, she opens it.

“Look, Jaehee,” Zen starts, a little awkward. He’s wearing a leather jacket and a grey t-shirt with ripped skinny jeans and sneakers. Jaehee notices his motorcycle parked in his driveway as he holds out one of the bagged fish buns to him. She assumes he must have picked it up on the stand by his house on the way to her’s. “I think we should talk.”

“Oh?” Jaehee hums, as if she’s oblivious to what Zen is wanting to discuss, because she can’t stand to be the first to bring up her exchange with you. She allows Zen inside and shuts and locks the door behind them. “What’s going on, Zen?”

“It’s about… The dating thing,” Zen answers as he sits down on the end of Jaehee’s couch and flicks the end table lamp on to shroud the room in warm light. Jaehee flushes with embarrassment upon realizing that he must have noticed she was just sitting in the dark before his arrival. “You know how you’ve been telling (y/n) not to date me because of my career?”

“Yes? I apologize, Zen. I don’t want to meddle in your personal life- I’m just worried about your career,” Jaehee explains, putting up a front for a moment. But then, she remembers… Zen is the only other person that knows about her feelings for you. He is a good friend, after all, so she confides in him about it often. “And, well… Perhaps this is selfish of me, but you’re aware of my feelings for (y/n). But of course, you two deserve to be happy and-”

“No, no, this isn’t about me. In fact, the only reason I’m talking to you about this is because I’m worried that, uh,” Zen clears his throat as Jaehee sits down on the couch next to him. He pauses, takes a bite of his fish bun, and uses his spare hand to awkwardly scratch the back of his neck. “You may be giving (y/n) the wrong impression?”

Jaehee blinks and sets her own bagged bungeoppang down on the coffee table. With how angry you seemed at her in the chatroom, she can’t even consider eating tonight. Her stomach is churning far too much.

“What do you mean?”

“They totally think you’re in love with me.”

Jaehee blinks again.

“I’m sorry?”

“They think that you’re in love with me and jealous of them for spending time with me, and that’s why you keep telling them to avoid me,” Zen explains between bites of his snack. “I guess (y/n) and Seven had talked about it after you guys had that fight or something.”

Jaehee leans forward and holds her head in her hands.

The situation is even worse than Jaehee thought.

You think… That she’s in love with Zen.

Fuck.

“Oh dear…”

“So?” Zen questions. “What are you gonna do?”

“I have no idea,” Jaehee answers as she sits straight up and stares at the wall.

“What?” Zen demands, shocked. “You mean you’re not gonna tell (y/n) the truth?”

“I assumed they knew that I only saw you as a good friend.”

“Well, it’s not like you run around screaming it from the rooftops,” Zen shrugs.

“Does that mean I have to tell them the truth?”

“Not necessarily, but you probably should.”

Jaehee shakes her head. She’s potentially ruined your friendship by rejecting her unrequited (?) feelings onto you and Zen- the last thing she needs to do is go and dump a love confession onto you, too.

“Hm… Maybe not.”

Shortly after, Zen finishes his visit with Jaehee and goes to your apartment next.

If he can’t get Jaehee to confess to you, he’ll just get you to confess to Jaehee. The idea is perfect! The two of you will finally stop arguing about his love life (which neither of you know anything about), he’ll stop having to hear one of you in each ear venting to him about how your feelings aren’t reciprocated (they are), and most importantly, his two best friends will be happy and mutually in love.

But, when he arrives at your apartment to see that you’ve also been crying and sitting in the dark, he realizes that he’s bitten off more than he can chew.

Especially when he finds himself sitting on your couch and having the same discussion with you that he had with Jaehee- except, somehow, worse, because you’re far more stubborn and far less receptive to his advice than Jaehee is.

“(y/n), come on now, Jaehee being in love with me is just ridiculous,” Zen argues as he throws his hands up in frustration.

You sit on your living room couch with your arms crossed over your chest and a pouty look on your face.

“Is it really?”

“Yes?” Zen responds, flabbergasted by your insistence that Jaehee is in love with him and only argues that he shouldn’t date so that she can keep him to herself. “Her and I are only friends.”

“Just because you see her as a friend doesn’t mean she sees you in the same light, Zen,” You argue, and finally, something in Zen breaks.

On a normal night, he would never betray Jaehee’s trust by telling you about her feelings, but he’s so tired of watching the two of you pine after each other that he just can’t help it.

So, he comes out with it.

“Okay, I didn’t really want to do this, but both of you have put me in a terrible spot and I think if I have to hear either of you vent to me about the other not liking you one more time, I’m going to develop wrinkles from the stress,” Zen exclaims. “I’m dating Jumin, so I’m not on the market! Okay? Okay. And, if, in some weird alternate universe, she did like me, it wouldn’t be reciprocated. And finally, she’s very, very in love with you! You guys are literally like one of those Hallmark movies- coffee shop and all!”

You blink your pretty (e/c) eyes and uncross your arms. Your frustrated expression turns to one of complete shock.

“Wait… You’re dating Jumin?”

Zen groans and throws his hands up in frustration.

“That’s what you’re worried about out of everything I just told you!?” 

“Oh, right,” You pause, and then, a big, bright smile takes over your face. “Jaehee’s in love with me?”

“Yes!”

“Well, she’s not very good at making it obvious,” You chuckle.

“Don’t tell her I told you or she’ll never come to my shows again,” Zen says, covering his face with his hands.

He almost regrets confessing the truth to you. Hopefully you won’t go and rat him out to Jaehee…

“Yeah, don’t worry,” You grin, dismissing his concerns. “I won’t.”

“So, are you gonna tell her?” Zen asks.

You offer a shrug and a smirk in return.

“Yeah, I’ll figure it out.

Zen lets out a sigh of relief.

“Oh, thank God.”

Much to your surprise, despite the argument in the chatroom yesterday evening, you do gather the courage to go to open the coffee shop. Jaehee meets you an hour after opening, and the two of you get through the rush of customers grabbing their pre-work coffees whilst hardly speaking to each other.

It’s a little awkward. You can tell she wants to apologize and that she has something to say, but every time one of you tries to speak to each other throughout the day, you get interrupted by a new customer coming in wanting a baked good or a soothing drink. By the time closing rolls around, the shop calms down. You write a note, take it to the lounge, and stick it in her cubby.

‘I know there’s been a lot going on between us lately, especially after that chatroom the other night, but I’d like to make it up to you tonight and clear the air. I love you and I need you to know that- and I know I was mad but it was just a misunderstanding, and I get it now. Please, let’s meet after work and go grab dinner.’

You smile and turn to walk back to the shop to start the closing process, totally unaware that the note unsticks from where you posted it and falls onto the lounge floor. Minutes later, Jaehee goes into the lounge to grab a pen so she can take inventory, only to come out with the note in hand. You beam upon seeing her with it, only for your face to fall seconds later when you see that Jaehee looks upset.

Was Zen wrong? Does she not love you after all?

“(y/n)... I want you to be happy. If your happiness is being with Zen, then I give you my blessing,” Jaehee murmurs and pushes the note towards you. “I know this is for Zen, so… Please take it and give it to him. It must’ve fallen from your purse.”

At that, you blank- both overwhelmed by how sweet Jaehee is being, and pissed off at just how wrong she is.

“...Are you serious?”

“I’m sorry?”

“He was right? He was right,” You raise your voice and facepalm. “God, he must be so annoyed with us!”

“What are you talking about?”

“Jaehee, this note was for you. I stuck it in your work cubby- it must have fell off or something. I’m an idiot for not signing it,” You raise your voice since there’s no customers in the shop. You’re angry at yourself, angry at Jaehee, and angry that the two of you could’ve been dating this entire fucking time. But, you manage to calm yourself down enough to lower your volume and explain your feelings to your partner. “I don’t have feelings for Zen. I’ve never had feelings for Zen, and I never will. He really is just a good friend.”

“...Oh,” At first, the soft sunkissed color from Jaehee’s face drains. Then, it’s replaced with a deep, rosy pink. You can see the facts sink in; the realization that flashes across her golden eyes, the blush on her cheeks, the slight quiver in her lip as she struggles to gather the right words to say to you. “Now I’m… Rather embarrassed.”

“I’m really embarrassed,” You respond with a nervous laugh.

“I do love you. I mean, I’m in love with you,” Jaehee rushes to reassure you. Her face is bright red- even redder than when she watches some of Zen’s racier performances, even redder than when the shop is going through its morning rush and the two of you are working hard to keep up with the customer’s demands. “Though I assume Zen informed you of that fact?”

“He told me not to tell you, but uh, yeah, he did. Regardless, that’s not what’s important, because him telling me the truth is the only reason I have the courage to do this,” You gently pull the note from Jaehee’s hands, toss it into the trash, and walk back to her so you can intertwine her fingers with your own. Then, you slowly lean forward and press a gentle kiss against Jaehee’s lips. The flavor of coffee and chocolate mixed together stays on your lips as you pull back and offer her a small smile. “So don’t be too mad at him.”

At that, Jaehee flashes her bright, beautiful smile back at you and reaches forward to fix the collar of your shirt.

“I suppose I could never stay mad at him for too long anyway, but… Would you still be interested in dinner after we close up shop?”

You laugh.

“Only if you let me treat you to something nice for once.”

Jaehee nods, and with that, the two of you get to work closing down the coffee shop, your first kiss still lingering in the back of your mind.

Jaehee's got a popular fan-account for Zen that nobody except Saeyoung knows about. This is to be expected, but, the silly part happens to be Zen's interacted with her account before because she's one of the most respectful fans and he's got no idea that it was Jaehee of all people! She's passionate and people can see that. She's got scathing essays for his defense that are annotated and dated so she can reference them later on.

Zen's got a collection of songs he uses just for his runs. It's exactly what you think it is. A cheesy work-out set of songs meant to make him feel like he's in a movie montage. Hey, it works, don't give him a silly look! It helps him feel inspired!

Yoosung has a collection of hair clips. He may not like being called cute by the other RFA members because it makes him feel like they think he's little kid, but he does enjoy feeling cute when it's a sincere compliment. He'll love it if you compliment his new hair clip! He's got so many of them... and the ones he wears at school are different than the ones he wears at home.

Jumin knows more memes than he lets on and he purposefully uses them in the chatroom to flabbergast the others. It's funny to him to see his friends stare at him in horror because they didn't realize he'd learned about that particular meme. Nobody will believe it, but that happens a lot.

Saeyoung is in the process of making trampoline shoes that can shoot you to the moon. It's impossible, but it's impressive that he found the motor to help him jump a few feet in the air. Think of the old Moon Shoes advertisement, but now imagine he's taken that idea twenty stories taller.

V's cactus collection has accessories. He gives them sunglasses and hats and charms. They've got names, too. Sometimes, he wishes he could be a better friend to others just as he's a good caretaker of his cacti. He vents to his plants a lot, too. I don't know if this is silly, but... it helps.

GE Saeran takes things at face value. If you tell him something he will assume you mean it literally until he double-checks the information. It matters to him because he wants to believe people when they try to teach him something important to them, but sometimes this means he ends up believing something that isn't true. But, he enjoys hearing these things, and marking them down on paper. Especially if it turns out they're superstitions or something special to you.

Rika loves arts and crafts. She loves scrap-booking most of all. She makes homemade cards for everyone because it feels like she's got something personal that speaks to her compassion for her friends. It is a mess of glitter, puffy paint, and stickers. Nobody has the heart to tell her that her artistic vision is a maximalist nightmare to clean up. But, she has fun.

Vanderwood is a hula-hoop champion and nobody will ever believe you if you tell them.
