Eva Dahlbeck and Gunnar Björnstrand in A Lesson in Love (Ingmar Bergman, 1954) Cast: Eva Dahlbeck, Gunnar Björnstrand, Yvonne Lombard, Harriet Andersson, Åke Grönberg, Olof Winnerstrand, Renée Björling, Göran Lundquist. Screenplay: Ingmar Bergman. Cinematography: Martin Bodin. Production design: P.A. Lundgren. Film editing: Oscar Rosander. Music: Dag Wirén.  In A Lesson in Love, Ingmar Bergman seems to be trying to turn Eva Dahlbeck into Carole Lombard. She certainly has Lombard's blond glamour, and she makes a surprising go at knockabout comedy. But where Lombard had the light touch of a Howard Hawks or an Ernst Lubitsch to guide her in her best work, Dahlbeck is in the hands of Bergman, whose touch no one has ever called light. A year later, the Bergman-Dahlbeck collaboration would make a better impression with Smiles of a Summer Night, but A Lesson in Love sometimes verges on smirkiness in its treatment of the marriage of Marianne (Dahlbeck) and David Erneman (Gunnar Björnstrand). They are on the verge of divorce and she is about to marry her old flame Carl-Adam (Åke Grönberg), a sculptor for whom she once posed. David is a gynecologist who has had a series of flings with other women, including Susanne (Yvonne Lombard), with whom he is trying to break up. But Marianne has not exactly been faithful to their vows either. Meanwhile, we also get to know their children, Nix (Harriet Andersson) and her bratty little brother, Pelle (Göran Lundquist), and David's parents (Olof Winnerstrand and Renée Björling), who in sharp contrast to Marianne and David are celebrating 50 years of marriage. While Bergman sharply delineates all of these characters -- especially 15-year-old Nix, who hates being a girl so much that she asks her father if he can perform sex-change operations -- the semi-farcical situation he puts them has a kind of aimless quality to it. I appreciated Andersson's performance as Nix the more for having seen her as the dying Agnes in Bergman's Cries and Whispers (1972), but in this film her role makes no clear dramatic sense.

Unpopular opinion :
Am I the only one who doesn’t want an “Even/Niccolo/Eliott/David/Joana/Sander” season ?
I mean, I love these characters. I really do. This is one of my favourite characters in Skam. I also have a MI, so I identify with this character. I LOVE every version of this character. (And of course I love every version of Evak.)
But I wouldn’t really like a season about an Even. I can’t see what would do a great story. I mean, for every season, the main character isn’t the same anymore from the beginning to the end. There’s a huge development during the season.
If there was a season about an Even, the mental illness storyline wouldn’t be a development for the character. I mean, he’s bipolar/borderline and will have this for his whole life. This is not a problem to solve. This isn’t a real development for the character.
Same for David. He’s trans. There’s no real development about this (I mean, he’s already out, already did the transition). It’s not a “problem” to solve, to accept. I can’t see where would be the huge development.
And every Even is actually more or less fine right now with their Isak. Of course they can feel very bad or very good because of the MI, but that’s part of their lives. And I think that, thanks to their Isak, they accept this more and more. Every Even is in love and more or less “happy” with their Isak. I don’t see where could be the storyline.
And there’re other characters who really need a season because their problems can make a huge development for them. For example : Vilde. A season about eating disorders, alcoholic mum, bad self-esteem, managing to do everything at home, never speaking about her situation, etc. Or Chris. A season about grossophobia (not for every Chris’s version obviously), always being the funny girl but we actually don’t know that much about her, how to be a good friend, what about a relationship for her ?, etc.
And I actually think that Isak’s season isn’t just Isak’s season. It’s also Even’s season. Every Even changed a lot during the Isak’s season. They’re also not the same anymore.
Because let’s not forget this :
“I ask you: What happens after I’ve rescued you ? And then you answer: I’ll rescue you right back.”
(I’m not against an Even’s season. I just doubt that would be necessary and great.)

for the wtfock and skam fandom,
*long but important rant ahead*
I know there's a whole lot of people going against being "realistic" in the wtfock fandom, but there sure is a HELL LOT more people who have faced and continue to face what what Robbe is going through. All I want for y'all is to empathise and understand the importance of representation; representation in the most vulnerable state, the fact that you're not alone, the fact that people fuck up and take drastic measures to come to terms with their sexuality which causes a lot of pain not only to the person going through it, but also to the selected few around them. But by saying this I don't mean to do the following things :
1. invalidate people who found acceptance easier,
2. the fact that you definitely need to fuck up and the process to self discovery has to be hard,
3. sleeping with a person of the opposite sex (which might rub off as the other person being "used") to figure out your sexuality.
4. calling slurs of any kind to deal with the innate homophobia;
No I don't mean for it to intend to any of the above things. I really don't want all of the above to be a norm, a norm which is sadly being propagated in wtfock (some of those by earlier versions of Skam as well) and which is what a huge part of the fandom is upset about. But let us pause and reflect on how good a part of this representation is :
1. for the ones who've already come out,
2. the ones who have found acceptance in themselves and are paving the way to come out,
3. the ones who are still closeted (which doesn't make it necessary for an individual to come out if they are safe and comfortable being in the closet),
The former two might've faced challenges too, and I don't mean to be harsh but maybe even tougher ones, since a lot of societies resist homosexuality and even propagate it as a disease. But they might see a part of themselves in Robbe who is as helpless as them, doing unforgivable things to bury something he shouldn't have to. And even if they feel sad for Robbe, they have hope for him because they know their struggle ended; even if they don't know of an Isak and his parallels who've found peace in their lives. And now imagine what it does for the closeted individuals? I personally feel that this representation is not propagating Robbe's actions, but is rather serving as lesson for the closeted people, especially teens to not repeat them. Closeted teens, especially boys dealing with toxic masculinity and engrained patriarchy need a figure like Robbe to realise that even a character on screen doesn't have it easy. And that precisely is the magic of "realistic" characters; where things which have been shown to be predominantly bad, are still, quite unfortunately, bad and capable of getting worse. The people complaining about Robbe's actions and saying it will propagate such behaviour in vulnerable viewers need to realise that the viewers are not going to watch just the one clip. They will most probably be watching the entire season, and because wtfock has repeatedly proven to be unpredictable, they cannot know where the show is going and leave midway. So by the time the season gets over, they will see that despite obstacles from the society and the self, Robbe has come out of the circle of shame, which similarly they can too, which is what SKAM at the end of the day stands for.
The reason I fell in love with SKAM is because I know it has the power to change people's conception about the "shame" these characters face. And I, for one, from the bottom of my heart, want people to feel the shame Robbe has as a closeted individual, and the horrendous repurcussions from the magnitude of homophobia that has been engrained into him. And I really want it to fucking change people, even if it's just one person. Don't get me wrong, I strongly desire representation that is happy and unproblematic, where people don't need to suffer to come out, hell where people don't feel the fuckin need to come out like it's a big fuckin deal! But I also want something that shakes people up, something that stirs them in a way that they can't possibly avoid, something which ties their mouth from speaking abysmally stupid things like "everything is rainbow for lgbtq people, they have it easy peasy and just make up/exaggerate their struggles to gain clout and sympathy".
There is no denying of the fact that one of the possible ways to achieve this is when the said character is believed to have fucked up beyond repair; because nothing else provides a complex understanding of the amount of pressures a society can unload onto an individual, when the person starts pretending to be someone else, and hurts the people around him. I want the viewers to be emotionally roused for them to understand what is the reason for this state, for them to step into our shoes and feel the desperation closeted individuals with a homophobic society face. I need people to realise the multifacted hypocrisy of this fucked up the society where a person has to go through such extents to hide, and to be ashamed for something as innate as love. I want people to question and not just binge-watch a series with two guys making out with a "lil' bit of fluff and angst", because I'm sorry that's not enough. It'll never be enough. Perceptions change when it comes innately rather than being forced by a second hand party, and I want people to feel as helpless and lonely as Robbe, rejecting his true love in fear of being rejected by the rest of the society. I've seen people say that SKAM is about hope. Yes it is, and it shall always remain about hope. But it is also about love, and both love and hope doesn't come easy for everyone.
What Robbe is facing and doing here is no different than a lot of people out there and yet again, that DOES NOT justify it or make it right. He's trying to repress a part of himself that is so integral to his identity; but his problematic past with his father and the people around him who have deemed homosexuality as toxic has led him to willfully believe the same; and sadly to such an extent that he has used a homophobic slur towards the love of his life. But then again, I am aware of people who've had problematic childhoods, had everything going wrong with them but somehow resisted the toxicity and/or kicked it out without hurting the people who love them in the process, and managed to become good individuals. But Robbe sure as hell wasn't immune to the toxicity he faced. So let's answer a few questions here:
Has he been wronged by the society he lives in? Yes.
Does his homophobia come from the society he so readily tries to participate and be a part of? Yes.
Does calling anyone a homophobic slur make you a bad person? Yes.
Does you calling a person a homophobic slur make it right because you are unable to deal with your innate homophobia caused by the society you live in? No, again.
Despite circumstances, at the end of the day, Robbe calling Sander the "f" word is and will always be inexcusable and there is no justification for that whatsoever. Now let's answer some more questions:
Is he capable of undoing what the society has thrusted upon him? No.
Was he capable enough to resist it? No.
Is he capable enough to throw it back? Yes, with support.
Is he capable of redemption? Yes.
Does he deserve redemption? Damn right he does.
Why I say he deserves redemption is something I'll always stand my ground on. The extent of damage done to Robbe and his mentality regarding homosexuality is so corrosive that the thought of him kissing another man is probably the most unnatural thing in the world. Sure he responded positively and even bent down quite a distance to kiss Sander in their almost kiss scene. But did you see the way he sprinted and pushed Sander under water when the latter tried to initiate the kiss? Fuckin hell he is not only scared, but mildly disgusted at the fact that he is indulging in those very acts that is "supposed" to be "wrong", going against what the society he so longs to be a part of propagates, going against and deceiving someone as lovely as Noor who he knows loves him.
About the sex scene, Robbe being the most homophobic Isak out of the lot, definitely needed this. But I'm sure he hasn't realised his inability to perform and his attraction towards Sander because it'll take a lot more to take out the engrained homophobia and the societal norms he's so afraid to break out of for sheer fear of shame. He is the Isak that needs the most work out of all and I readily am looking forward to it. That's why I wasn't upset with the scene at all 'cuz in hindsight, it will give Robbe all the assurity and clarity about his sexuality. It's just that I fuckin love Noor and will give my life for her 'cuz she really doesn't deserve this.
That being said, I know for a fact that Noor will understand Robbe better when he comes out since now she has first handedly witnessed how uncomfortable and confused he was following their sex. When Robbe comes out, I hope she is understanding enough to realise that despite Robbe being gay and more importantly, attracted to Sander, he still tried to put an effort into their relationship, tried to please her by keeping his discomfort aside despite him not being sexually attracted to her. I just really fuckin hope Noor doesn't lash out her anger on Robbe again, even though she has shown all the signs to completely do so.
Also, I'M LIKE REALLY FUCKIN EXCITED FOR MILAN AND ROBBE TO HAVE THE TALK AND FOR MILAN TO PUT SOME SENSE INTO THIS BOY THANK YOU JESUS OF THE GAYS, HE IS LITERALLY ONE OF THE BEST ESKILDS TO EXIST! (This clip fuckin delivered okay I love Milan so much)
Also, a not so small PSA for the SKAM fandom:
Being an inactive passive member and spectator of the fandom since the past one year, I have observed something problematic. I think we can all agree on the most problematic part of the fandom, i.e. fetishisation of two boys making out, for which idk if there will ever be a solution to. But the issue I want to speak about is a tad bit, albeit loosely related to it. Me thinks, after having watched five versions of Isak coming out and most of them not taking the way wtfock took, it might've spoiled the fandom and made us want a simple way out with a good balance of angst and fluff. But as I mentioned before, things in the real world do get this problematic, and I for one am glad wtfock has taken the hard way to represent it on platforms not only meant for the lgbtq audience, but also for the hetero audience.
The times, they are a changing. We expect things to get better, to be accepted for who we are like it isn't a fuckin burden on the world if we are gay, trans, asexual, non-binary, and/or everything in between. But for some people time remains stagnant because the society does; which is what makes it so hard for people to break through. All I want for the fandom now, is to accept that things are going to differ from the og. I wasn't the biggest fan of Druck, but I will still applaud it for the changes it made, like keeping David and Matteo distant for most part of the later series, so as to help Matteo develop his character bereft of a romantic alliance and not his own identity.
Okay, another example. I am from Delhi, a metropolitan city in India. If India were to ever get a Skam, and it is something a lot of fans are working towards, the Isak season would be a really different rendition from that of the European remakes of Skam, and I can't even emphasise how fuckin different. If you as a dedicated Skam fan, are so thoroughly disgusted at what Robbe did ( forgetting, not realising, or worse not accepting why he did so), y'all should consider missing out on India's Isak season, hell I think even the rest of the seasons. People's tolerance for homosexuality stoops lower than the underground and you'll be thanking your stars that you were born in a privileged country. What I really want to convey to the fandom is, that it is bad out there. It is really bad, and it gets worse. Robbe calling Sander the slur was and is still an unfathomable thing to me, but god I wish that were the worst thing to happen. I found myself thanking the writers for not escalating it to something worse. Because, the definitions of "worse" vary from society to society, and man at the end of the day, is a very product of the society he is enngrained into and wishes to differentiate himself from but is unable to. So the only possible way is to change the society, and hence the man which the society is composed of.
Again : I don't want to trivialise being called homophobic slurs or slurs of any kind. Just because there are worse off things, that doesn't excuse this. It really is a matter of shame to be still using the f word, and that too hearing it from a character we all love. It still is inexcusable, and a poor choice by Robbe. But I feel it is forgiveable for Robbe, keeping in mind all the factors that I just elaborated but only if he redeems himself worthy to be forgiven.
I'm sorry for the long ass rant and thank the people who've actually read up until here. I believe I don't have a single skam or wtfock fan following me since I've been a silent member. But if I have, then you and the people in the tag who are reading this, please know that this is in no way to dismiss your feelings towards the direction wtfock has taken. It's absolutely valid and you're right to be upset with it. But I cannot be silent anymore amidst this ongoing battle between being realistic and taking it too far. Because believe me, even though it's a different level of low for Isak, it's not the deepest or darkest. For us it may seem rock bottom, but it's just the bottom from which he's gonna spring up really soon. I just hope he knows he regrets calling Sander the slur, accusing him of taking advantage of him, and breaking not only his but also Noor's heart in the very near future. And I hope he pays for it when Sander breaks his heart somehow, which I will personally pay hundred bucks to see no kidding just gimme your venmos jk Indians don't use venmos and I'm a poor bitch ha. And as for Sander, my bleached boy with a sinister resemblance to Jack Frost and his morbid obsession with David Bowie (which might be a possible reference to his bipolarity btw; @ the writers of wtfock, if you've for real symbolised Sander's obsession with Bowie's to that of his bipolarity and his different personas, I shall love you forever) who we are all willing to die for, will be alright too. He isn't, he's probably worse off than Robbe, but he will be. He doesn't deserve this because he's the softest boy on earth, but believe me, neither does Robbe. They'll soon be out of it, and I expect nothing short of a grand apology and gesture from Robbe otherwise I straight up am raiding @wtfock's office to write a script where he becomes worthy enough of Sander and all his goodness okay bye I'm emotional I love Sander with all my heart and he's the best human being I know even though he's not real but he is to me

Maybe it's just me but Robbe & Sander somehow remind me of NPH & David Burtka. All of them don't waste any oportunity to confess their unconditional love to eachother. And both couples love each other heart and soul.

“When I live my dream, please be there to meet me” from David Bowie When I Live My Dream
Of course Sander had to choose this song :
Tumblr media
When I live my dream, I’ll take you with me
Happy at the sound of your voice
But you will find, that nothing in my dream can hurt you
We will only love each other as forever
When I live my dream, I’ll forgive the things you’ve told me
Then we can live in our land
Wish, and the storm will fade away
Wish again, and you will stand before me while the sky will paint an overture
When I live my dream, I'll forget the hurt you gave me
Then we can live in our new land
Sander is living his dream now with Robbe.
This song fits well with everything they've been through together.
I’m in tears he loves Robbe so much…
But isn’t it that ? Being in love ?

have we ever considered the possibility that Sander doesn’t even have mental health problems? like, maybe his Thing™ has something to do with his family background, a criminal past, maybe he’s in the foster care system... what are we thinking, fam?
