Is It All Over My Face Loose Joints: This reissue of Arthur Russells classic by his fictional group Loose Joints featured both male and female vocal versions this is the female one. Larry Levans remix of his song is legendary and the one most people know though the original is very similar just shorter breaks and less dubby effects. This song is one of the templates for House Music with its 120 bpm groove and relentless breakdowns. Arthur Russell was a genius, a cello playing musical mastermind. With his production partner DJ Steve D’Aquisto, Russell tracked down the Ingram brothers a philly disco duo and had then help lay the rhythm tracks on his masterpiece. The legend is that none other than Allen Ginsburg the beat poet also attended the early sessions declaring Russell an important musical force. The vocals in this are done by Melvina Woods a loft regular with Russell singing he low parts under her, the male vocals are done by Robert Green and Leon McElroy none of whom were professional singers but partygoers from the loft brought invited by David Macuso to the session. Recorded Mixed by Bob Black who had mixed by Musiuqes In The Bush And released by West End records his record reach legendary cult status and was THE RECORD at the Loft and The Garage fir close to a decade. A much bigger song in the tristate area nor sure if this ever made it out west. Arthur would go in to help found Sleeping Bag records, make a lot of amazing music. He also apparently never made any money from this classic which is tragic considering the songs impact. Arthur Russell was also Dinosaur L more or less and made a slew of classic post disco classics. He left the world way to early, one of the many we lost during the AIDS crisis. Arthur was a true genius and this reissue is phenomenal.
