Is this story BS or what? by u/Mickleborough
Is this story BS or what? When Meghan was (figuratively writing) dancing at a cheap suburban party for a moderate fee, at the opening of the ‘Godmothers’ bookshop in Summerland, she somehow bagged a microphone. And like every single time she has a microphone, she has a story that’s just right (like how, at the recent Afro Women and Power event in Cali, Colombia, she claimed that her 3-year-old daughter had ‘found her voice’).This one’s a doozy. As she’s at a bookshop opening, she needs a meaningful bookstore story.Back in September 2019, the devoted mother left her 4-month old firstborn in London and flew to New York to ‘support’ Serena Williams at the US Open final.https://preview.redd.it/dlpn1v4tk8od1.png?width=1640&format=png&auto=webp&s=5e0af14a0394e4f34ce4da0ad7ea8d7dcc63d758It’s not clear why she was uncomfortable, but let’s not make too much out of it - it means as much as the garbage she normally spouts. And how does a bookshop make one feel safe? But the big question is: When did she find time to visit a bookshop on that trip?Nosy Daily Mail has done some digging:She flew commercial from London to New York on Friday 6 September, leaving on either the 08.25 / 8.25 am or 09.00 / 9 am flight. She’d have landed say around 12 noon.Meghan was seen going to Modo Yoga in the West Village on Friday. Guess she didn’t have jet lag.The women’s finals began at 16.00 / 4 pm.It was a 2-day visit.Obviously there are gaps in the above during which she could’ve dipped into a bookshop. But in between yoga, dinner, and taking bites of the Big Apple - she found some weird solace in a bookshop. Sure, Jan.DID YOU KNOW?It seems that Serena Williams was unwilling for Meghan to be present - the last time she watched Serena play, at Wimbledon earlier that year, Williams lost to Simona Halep. Williams‘s fears were justified: Meghan watched her lose again, this tIme to Bianca Andreescu.Anna Wintour was seated behind Meghan. But notwithstanding that - no Met Gala invite.https://ift.tt/kq7YwNr and Harry had told the late Queen that they were too busy with their charitable work to visit her that weekend at Balmoral. So Meghan jaunted to New York whilst Harry stayed home with the 4-month-old firstborn.* She did this whilst her passport allegedly had been taken away from her. It’s one of the 13 foreign holidays she took without a passport: Mirror archived / unarchivedDaily Mail archived / unarchivedTown & Country archived / unarchived - for the bookshop story post link: https://ift.tt/BEoqsyd author: Mickleborough submitted: September 11, 2024 at 10:04PM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit disclaimer: all views + opinions expressed by the author of this post, as well as any comments and reblogs, are solely the author's own; they do not necessarily reflect the views of the administrator of this Tumblr blog. Folded Forest: Defining the Jurassic Period
by Jane Thaler
What’s in a Name?
Derived from the words for “middle life” in Greek, the Mesozoic Era consisted of three geological periods: the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous. While many of us might be aware of all three, the term “Jurassic” has seeped into our everyday lives in a way that the Triassic and Cretaceous have not. We can attribute much of this ubiquity to the wildly popular Jurassic Park books by Michael Crichton and their subsequent film adaptations, but have you ever wondered what “Jurassic” actually means and how scientists define the period’s geological boundaries?
Coining “Jurassic”
The “Jura” in Jurassic refers to the Jura Mountains that run along a large portion of the Swiss and French border. Named for the ancient Celtic word for forest, the Jura Mountains are known for their tree-covered peaks and the folded rocks that comprise them (Jones, 2020, p. 94).

It was here in 1795 that Alexander von Humboldt, a Prussian explorer and naturalist, documented a series of carbonate shelf deposits from the period now known as the Jurassic and dubbed them the “Jura Kalstein.” Alexander Brongniart, a French scientist known for arranging and describing the geologic formations of the Tertiary Period (66.0 to 2.6 million years ago), coined the term “Terrains Jurassiques” to refer to all Jurassic strata in 1829. In 1832, German geologist Leopold von Buch established the three-fold subdivision of epochs based on the folds of limestone in the Jura: the Lias (Early Jurassic), the Dogger (Middle Jurassic), and the Malm (Late Jurassic). This arrangement remains the basic framework for our geological understanding of the Jurassic to this day (Ogg et al., 2012b, p. 732; Encyclopedia Britannica, 2021a).

Beginning of the Jurassic
Nestled between the Triassic and Cretaceous periods, the Jurassic spanned from 201.3 million years ago to 145 million years ago (National Park Service, 2020). The end of the Triassic (so named because it is a group of three strata) and the beginning of the Jurassic is marked by the Triassic–Jurassic (Tr–J) extinction event, sometimes called the end-Triassic extinction. The fourth of five major extinction episodes on Earth (or sixth if you count the current, anthropogenic extinction), the Tr–J extinction wiped out around 75 percent of all marine and terrestrial life (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2021b).
Current evidence suggests that the Tr–J extinction was initially set into motion by movements of the Earth’s crust. As the all-encompassing mega-continent Pangea began to break apart, the associated tectonic shifts caused significant volcanic activity that spewed carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The resulting global warming disrupted the Earth’s carbon cycle and contributed to ocean acidification (Fuge, 2020).
The ecological niches left open by the Tr–J extinction were quickly filled by remaining species of pterosaurs, crocodilians, turtles, mammals, many species of plants and invertebrates, marine life, and dinosaurs. Though many species died out during the extinction event, the wet and warm climate of the Jurassic in many places encouraged the growth of lush vegetation along with the proliferation and diversification of fauna. Oceans teemed with life, forests flourished, and dinosaurs became the dominant forms of backboned animal life on land during this time (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2021b).

End of the Jurassic
The end of the Jurassic is a bit of a mystery as the geological boundary between it and the Cretaceous Period (the latter name derived from the Latin for “chalk”) remains formally undefined. In fact, the Cretaceous is the only period in the Phanerozoic Eon (541 million years ago to present day) that “does not yet have an accepted global boundary definition” (Ogg et al., 2012a, p. 795). This definitional challenge is due to a number of factors but is mostly attributed to the concept of provincialism or provinciality, which means that plant or animal populations were restricted to a particular area or group of areas (Gale et al., 2020). This resulted in endemic populations, particularly of ammonites, which left uneven or unclear fossil markers in the stratigraphic record (Wimbledon, 2017; see Énay, 2019 for more detail on the J/K boundary debates).
We do know that the end of the Jurassic was marked by the Tithonian–early Barremian cool interval, which began 150 million years ago and continued well into the Early Cretaceous (Ogg et al., 2012a). During this time, some groups of animals did go extinct or become less diverse, like the dinosaurian subgroup Stegosauria that included Stegosaurus, while others increased in abundance, like some ammonite subgroups who survived the Tr–J event. Plants were also developing in important ways during this time. Around 130 million years ago, angiosperms (flowering plants) began to diversify, and they became increasingly dominant throughout the Cretaceous (Friis et al., 2010). Taking the unknowns and variables into account, the end of the Jurassic is currently placed at 145 million years ago.
Naming Geological Periods
Many of the names we still use for geological periods went through a similar process to that of the Jurassic: a scientist named a phenomenon based on the strata they were studying and the nomenclature (the system of names) developed from there. Nowadays, defining and naming geological units is left to the International Commission on Stratigraphy of the International Union of Geological Sciences. The process by which this happens feels about as long as the geologic periods themselves, at least to those of us watching from outside the commission. This is, of course, an exaggeration, but it does take years of work and rounds of voting to arrive at an official stratigraphic boundary designation.

2014 australia tour/wimbledon is possibly my fav kate haircut with her 2011-12 dark chocolate being my fav kate hair colour
i hate when she does reddish-lighter brown
Ooh, my favourite Kate hair is either post-George 2013, 2019 Wimbledon or the summer of 2017. I do NOT like her "blonde" hair, like whatever was happening on her head when she took Charlotte for her first day at school. Dark chocolate brown Kate hair is my all time favourite but I like it when she goes more reddish though

RWRB Timeline
I originally worked out the timeline for Sep. 27, 2020, and when people suggested I post it on tumblr, I said fuck it and did the whole book.
Go big or go home, right?
I have spent the past 3 days working on this. It’s half summaries of the events of the days in order, and half “here’s a one sentence summary of the day”.
Whenever possible, I’ve detailed out when things happen by the hour, like the day at Wimbledon, or the email leak day, including guesstimations on flight times, and what time EST and BST Alex is taking off and landing. I often forgot to add vague things like “morning” in, so sorry about that.
I’ve bolded all the dates I’m sure of.
Bold and italics means an official date: emails, text threads, tweets, holidays, Georgetown, etc.
Two asterisks ** = official dates.
Just bold means a day I’m sure of, based off of official dates: Two weeks later, day one post lake house, “a tuesday”, etc.
One asterisk: * = something I’m sure of based on official dates.
I’ve also bolded days of the week I’m sure of, even if I’m not certain of the date.
I’ve left a few things vague. Like, October 2020 is a lot of “sometime between these days, this happened”. Feel free to pick a day in that range to your heart’s content.
If you don’t like the day I picked for little things like Bea walking in on face time, or coming out to June, feel free to change it.
I didn’t bold everything I’m certain on, as I technically don’t have textual evidence to back it up. (Things like the wedding day, Alex and Henry’s texts at in the beginning, some things during the campaign.)
I’m 100% willing to answer questions on why I chose certain days, and any other questions or comments you may have!

June’s gown is midnight blue and perfectly compliments the navy-and-gold color palette they chose for the party.
8 p.m.: Guests begin to arrive. The first wave includes some White House interns, and the daughter of a first time Senator and her girlfriend. The second wave is the politically strategic invites chosen by the press team, and finally the fashionably late, including Minor to mid-range popstars and the children of major celebrities.
Pez and Henry show up. Pez is in a colorful floral print shiny silk bomber jacket. Henry is wearing a simple dark blue suit with a bright coppery-mustard tie in a narrow cut. Alex realizes this is the first time they’ve seen each other in person since their weekend in London and feels like he’s meeting a new person.
There's dancing and mingling, and June makes a speech about the immigration fund they’re supporting with their donations. June and Henry talk at the bar.

Hi jess! i have a question, don't know if you know the answer to it or not. I noticed that Kate and pippa went to wimbledon a few times together in 2011/12, but not again until 2019 i believe. do you know why this is? was there some kind of rule against it? Also, since i saw pics of Sarah and Jane spencer at an engagement with Diana in the 80s i was wondering if Pippa would ever be able to attend an engagement with kate or if it was just bc the Spencers were aristocrats that they were able to?
Hello :) there’s a few things here so I’m going to answer everything but not in the order you asked it:
1) As we’ve been talking about recently in terms of borrowing clothes, the present day can’t be compared to the 80s in terms of public sentiment and expectations. It was 30-40 years ago, times have changed, and scrutiny on the royals is much higher than it was. So what Diana did and got away with doesn’t really have much weight today. However her sister Sarah was one of her Ladies in Waiting which was why she went with her to lots of events
2) Kate’s visits to Wimbledon weren’t included in the court circular until I believe 2017 which was her first game attending as patron. I don’t know if they counted for Diana either way but only the 2019 match was an official engagement.
3) As with many things to do with British royals, it’s not written down anywhere that “Middletons may not come to a royal event.” So some things are just about how the culture at the time will respond. But it does state that taxpayer funds should be spent on furthering royal work which leads me to...
4) This topic came up when Pippa went to the match with Kate in 2019. And also when Doria went to an event with Meghan which is why I have phrased it the way I have lol: https://duchessofostergotlands.tumblr.com/post/186258129079/wait-what-i-almost-always-agree-with-you-put
Basically it doesn’t bother me that she was there. She’s a member of the club who would have access to the royal box theoretically anyway and anyone can buy tickets. Just like I didn’t mind Cressida going with Harry to We Day when they dated even though it was an official engagement, because anyone can buy a ticket and they just had seats next to each other. It’s also a family event for her as her sister married a Branson and Holly Branson is co-chair of the day. But the transportation was the issue for me because that is not just for any person they like; taxpayer funds should not be used for family members who don’t serve the monarchy. It did lead to some great jokes about Pippa saving the environment by doing mundane everyday tasks though which I thoroughly enjoyed

Favourite Catherine Looks.
Look 1.
Also from the Canada visit. This outfit is GENIUS. I love this navy blue coat with the red scarf, the red in this scarf is so beautiful. She looks semi-divine in these pictures.

Look 4.
Erdem, Very sexy regal-ness. Pictures speak for themselves!

Look 5.
Los Angeles. This is a whistles outfit, yet she makes it look like it was made for her, it was so feminine and lovely.

Look 6.
The polo dress. She looks like a goddess.

Look 7.
A more recent look, from 2019. She visited King Henry’s Walk Garden January 2019. A very clever look. Firstly, those Chloe boots are a perfect outdoorsy boot, I absolutely adore them. Secondly, the jumper underneath that jacket is the most exquisite red. I found it online when I saw it, and the red was sold out, I found the green colour it came in to have the same sort of rich earthy feeling. Truly a testament to whoever finds her clothes, that this reasonably priced item is one of the most regal gorgeous jumpers I have seen. I love how the amazing colour peaks out from under her jacket. Just those little touches of the deep red visible at her neck and wrists make this look legendary.

Look 8.
This red dress, I believe she was visiting a portrait gallery. I can immediately recognise when she is wearing McQueen. When I saw this I KNEW it was McQueen. Shockingly… this is a Whistles dress. Isn’t that extraordinary. I think this dress is stunning, it is one of my favourite looks. (Rounded shoes !)

Look 9.
This Wimbledon dress is Regal Modernity personified. McQueen of course. The Insect print is just genius. GENIUS. Look how well it fits in with the surrounding colour palette. Such a clever clever outfit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look 10.
Commonwealth Day Service, Erdem Coat – and a brilliant, elegant hat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look 11.
This is becoming one of my absolute favourites. I think that this hat – is an absolute work of art. It is so quirky and completely elegant at the same time. She's walking around with a literal rose on her head. It’s not rose inspired or themed, it is a giant rose on her head.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look 12.
From when she was dating Prince William. I included this because to me it shows her unique, special individual style from which her royal style as the Duchess of Cambridge has been built from. This is a Katherine Hooker coat, I found a YouTube video of Katherine Hooker herself talking about dressing Kate Middleton. She said that Kate requested a coat from her at a country fair. This is such a special thing for me because it shows her special enigmatic style as an individual. She has her own tastes. This gorgeous hat, how amazing is it. She is truly a special soul, we are so blessed to have her.

Look 13.
This McQueen look from Singapore. Any one who has been to Singapore will know that the humidity is just cruel. However the sweating make her look like she was glowing. Her tan here is also lovely. Once again the McQueen is just divine. The neckline on this dress is brilliant. The slight frizz in her hair (presumably from the humidity) looks so sexy dare I say!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look 14.
The final look, is my favourite thing she has ever worn. Arguably not even the most creative, expensive, designer, or particularly royal dress she has ever adorned. But there is something about how she looks in these photos that makes my heart soar. I think that may in fact be why this is my all-time favourite look. The fact that such a simple dress can look so spectacular on her because of who she is as a person. She wears the clothes. The clothes don’t wear her. You do not see anyone walking around who looks like Kate Middleton. She is one of a kind. I feel that in these photos you can see her beautiful spirit shining through, which makes the delightful but quite basic dress look to die for.

Look 15.
LK Bennett polka-dot dress. A high street dress but it looks like a million dollars, fits perfectly, photographs beautifully.

French Open schedule 2021: Full draws, TV coverage, channels & more to watch every tennis match
After a 2020 that saw one Grand Slam cancelled (Wimbledon) and Roland Garros shifted to the fall, things are back to normal this year — kinda. Back in April, the 2021 French Open was moved one week later with the hope of the shift allowing for more fans to attend.
Now with things about to get underway, all eyes will be on the “King of Clay,” Rafael Nadal, as he goes for his 14th title — and fifth consecutive — at Roland Garros. If he wins the tournament, he will break a tie with Roger Federer for most men’s Grand Slam titles. The duo is tied at 20.
MORE: Osaka says she will not speak to press at 2021 French Open, citing mental health
And, now, here’s the kicker — he may have to go through Federer to do it. Nadal, the No. 3 seed, could meet Federer, the No. 8 seed, in the semifinals in Paris. But, that’s not even the best part. Why? Well, the 39-year-old Federer, who hasn’t played much in the last 15 months following two minor knee surgeries, is on a collision course with world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals. Yep, the “Big Three” are on the same side of the draw.
On the women’s side, world No. 1 and 2019 champ Ash Barty back in Paris after skipping last year’s tourney due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She’ll face some stiff competition with defending champ Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Sofia Kenin and Jennifer Brady all in the same half of the draw. Serena Williams is still looking to make some history of her own — she is one Grand Slam singles title away from tying Margaret Court’s record of 24. Williams has won three times at Roland Garros, the last in 2015. She’ll see the likes of Bianca Andreescu and Naomi Osaka in her side of the draw.
Here is the full 2021 French Open schedule, including draws, TV coverage breakdown and order of play for each round.

DAY 4147
Hy Re, Lko                      July 15/16,  2019                   Mon/Tue 12:32 AM
Birthday -Ef Sanjay Agarwal, ABEF Team ASTRUM .. Tuesday, July 16 .. all good wishes to you from the Ef .. greetings ever ..
Tumblr media
उम्र का तक़ाज़ा  .. some of the tactual or tactile demands of age  ..
.. there is a sudden unselfconsciousness that creeps in with regularity .. it be not demanding as the words suggest, but they be the realisation that the demands of age be of some value too .. there is no hidden hesitation on the unpreparedness, or the need to camouflage it with embarrassed humility and a ‘walk away’ from it .. there is a curiosity which one laments of not being what we be now , earlier .. acceptance be the largest and the greatest examination .. appear for it even if it evades you .. fear not the results , there is no pending application dependent on it .. or the fear of parental disposition .. it be just BE ..
.. there is definite apathy .. what could and should have been done, and not done .. in time .. and now that there be the limits of time, a sudden disinterest in the desire to accomplish .. that be one part of the Act 1, before the prologue .. there are several others too .. Acts 2 and 3 and the epilogue .. and there is the wonder why were there just the 3 Acts .. why not more or less .. theatre all over the globe bears testimony to the facts of a 3 Act play .. so exampled are we by a certain Bard, that one dare not trespass the gates of conditioning and confirmed procedure ..
Yet .. in the aloneness .. in the confines of the ‘room with a view’ .. hmm .. where did that Forester- rian title creep in .. but was there not a Hitchcockian reference to the ‘room with a view’ .. or perhaps a film story that dealt with the leading man having a view from his room and being witness to either a crime or a murder , and what transpired thereafter .. or some such tale .. yes got it it was ‘Rear Window’ a film with Jimmy Stewart .. any way .. where were we .. yes , the time of a loneliness and in the confines of a room all day where does the mind drift to ..
.. it drifts to many regions and areas .. and it urges with immense earnestness to find meaning and value and understand of much that has escaped your early years .. years when it was perhaps of lesser interest, or the need to not be in the same condition or room where you could be questioned or asked opinion on .. or details concerning your own knowledge of the subject under general discussion in a motley crowd of either known or unknown people ..
FOR ..
.. evenings spent in the company of friends and known acquaintances would often drift in debates on life, politics, morality, principles and behaviour .. et al .. it was the done thing .. it was the College and University temperament exploding in excess .. you or rather the others were not interested in the company of the invited to a gathering of leisure at a common friends place .. not interested in the music or the drinks or the music and dancing that often would be given priority at such venues , but to just accumulate a few like minded debate oriented young, and simply throw a topic in the ring and start an adventure without any purpose .. just to be able to impress the others on the quality of the language used, or the content and its veracity .. some would get very intense .. others would just laugh it off and get back on the floor with their respective glass of poison ..
SO ..
.. is there a desire to express here, a certain comfort of age .. or the discomfort of failed and missed opportunity of gathering a great deal more than what we now possess .. of wasting time and energy on issues and matters of little relevance .. of the feel not being there at all to educate our minds .. minds that begin to have time delays in memory and remembrance .. of misplaced items and not discovering their locale .. of worry on what needs consumption for the body .. and what the body needs to do almost each day to be in relative active motion .. on being faced with one singular attention given from each that you meet and expresses repeatedly “ so how is your health ?” !!
.. it was never there in earlier years .. it is there now .. the grey, the volumed waist , the extended time taken to rise from that sitting position , the need for any other to pick that which may have slipped down to the floor since the bend is a process now .. and on ..
... BUT ..
.. we soldier on .. at times to dissuade any further comment on conditions of health or well being .. and at times to send impressions that at 77 its still functional , oiled and in regular motion ..
the Federer Express needs to comment at Wimbledon interview after his loss, that despite his 37, he still stands and is ready for more next year .. Gayle, the force, that slams the ball out of the stadium is commentated upon each passing minute on how at 40 he still dives to save boundaries .. or how absolutely mesmerising it is to see an 18 year old bowl those thunderbolts .. or whack the ball to the other end of the pitch ..
.. at 77 they ask after your health ..
.. its normal and justified .. keeps you on your toes .. or on to the ‘elixir of life’ .. in excess at times ..
.. dear me this has become such a health rant .. no .. no more .. getting out of it .. just because its another considered off day tomorrow, and just because of that we are still communicating at 3 am, does not give latitude for endless rambling ..
APOLOGIES ..
.. BRING ON SOME MORE HAPPINESS AND SMILES ..  OK ?
ok ..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
.. thats better .. and yellow heart balloons are a worthy addition ..
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
.. ok so todays Ad., shoot was conducted at the impressive La Martiniere College .. an illustrious institute of great standing and repute and such a huge and attractive complex  ..
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
.. and the young students giving their show of affection as I get ready in the Vanity ..
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
.. there still be some that ask for autographs these days .. humbling ..
Love and more ..❤️

[12 July 2019]: Christmas in July! For this Saturday favorite I’m choosing Kate’s look from her first Christmas as a member of the royal family, 2011 at Sandringham. This is one of my favorite winter hats we’ve seen on Kate, by Jane Corbett. The shape is very elegant, a little out of the ordinary, and it really suits the half-up/half-down hairstyle Kate often favored in those days. I haven’t even mentioned the color, which is a fabulous purply cranberry - so festive, without being over the top. The coat, the silhouette of which is so similar to the McQueen one we saw on Kate at Easter this year, was a few shades darker & made by a private dressmaker. Kate went with black tights and round-toed platform black suede heels by Mascaro (also a signature early style of hers!). Other accessories included a clutch by Mulberry and earrings by Kiki McDonough that we have seen repeated many times over the years. I think Kate looked so pretty this day, and although I am loving our current summer weather (and am SO excited to see the duchesses together at Wimbledon tomorrow), I do really enjoy their cold-weather looks! “It was a nightmare. She was a nightmare.”

Will Humphries, Harry Shukman
The duchess broke Wimbledon protocol by wearing jeans in a members’ area
The duchess broke Wimbledon protocol by wearing jeans in a members’ area.
The Duchess of Sussex may be learning that it is harder than she expected to separate her public duties from her private life. Especially when you try to do it at one of the showpiece events of the British summer.
Meghan has ruffled feathers at the All England Club by wearing jeans in a members’ area while attending No 1 Court “in a private capacity” last week to watch her friend Serena Williams.
She was also accused of “self-regarding paranoia” after a royal bodyguard told tennis fans not to take pictures of her during her visit.
The wearing of denim is frowned upon in members’ areas at Wimbledon. One member of more than 30 years said: “She’s not allowed to wear jeans.”
Officials also complained that organising the visit had been difficult.
The match was being played in a stadium with a capacity of 12,345 and broadcast live on the BBC. An All England Club source said: “She wanted to come incognito but there were problems. They couldn’t invite her into the royal box because she was wearing jeans but that didn’t really matter because all she wanted to do was come and watch Serena.
“Andy Murray was on Court 1 afterwards and it was a massive faux pas not to watch a Brit when she is signed up to the royal family.”
One official involved in organising the visit said: “It was a nightmare, she was a nightmare.”
The All England Club said: “Any suggestion that the duchess’s visit was anything other than a privilege for the club is categorically not the view of the club and she is always welcome to attend the championships.”
A palace source said she had only planned to watch her friend play on No 1 Court and had no intention of going to the royal box on Centre Court.
Sally Jones, 64, a media consultant sitting in the same row as the royal visitor, said that a man had tapped her on the shoulder and asked her not to use her phone to photograph the duchess, even though Ms Jones said she had been zooming in on Serena Williams.
A royal protection officer told her: “Would you not take photographs of the Duchess? She’s here in a private capacity.” Ms Jones said she had not even noticed Meghan, who attended the match with her friends Genevieve Hillis and Lindsay Roth. “I think this royal protection officer was quite embarrassed,” Ms Jones told The Daily Telegraph.
“He appeared a bit mystified as to why he was being asked to make such a request. I told him it was bonkers and that even if I had been trying to snap the duchess, I’d have got a blurry picture of her right ear. Apart from anything else, there were hundreds of people clicking away. I said to him, ‘Have you thought about having a word with any of those television cameras?’ He looked a little uncomfortable.”
She added that the request amounted to “puzzlingly random control freakery” that was in contrast to her experience of the royal family expecting to be photographed by their fans in public. “It saddens me that they are weakening their impact through this behaviour,” she said. “It makes them look silly. It’s childish and takes us for fools.”
The request came days after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were criticised for refusing to publicly name the godparents of their son Archie, the seventh in line to the throne, and denying entry to the media to witness the arrival of guests to the christening.
The Duchess of Cambridge, who is patron of the All England Club, visited Wimbledon last week to watch Harriet Dart, the young British player, face Christina McHale on Court 14. She watched the first set then moved to the royal box on Centre Court.
A palace source said: “It is not unusual for people accompanying members of the royal family at private, or public, engagements to ask members of the public not to take photographs. This is to enable members of the royal family to properly engage with people and events.”
