Efren Lore + Fun Facts

I think out of all of the DBM characters Efren has the most mild lore.

He's Filipino, but he was born and grew up in USA. His full name is Danilo Efren Dagohoy (yes he goes by his middle name). He doesn't really know any language other than English, though his parents did try to teach him Tagalog and he did take Spanish in high school.

His family is overall very average: middle class, suburban white picket fence house, church on Sundays, etc. He has 4 siblings - one older brother, and three younger siblings - two sister and a toddler brother.

Despite the pretty average upbringing he was always the black sheep of the family. He was always the biggest out of the five siblings, being born the weight of 8 pounds and 11 ounces. He was a chubby kid, though during puberty he started to grow really tall and with a bit of regular exercise he developed an impressive muscle mass.

He was always freakishly strong and completely unaware of it. In kindergarten and primary school he would get in trouble for accidentally hurting other kids and breaking toys. This self control issue really came to a boiling point when he accidentally killed the neighbours cat while playing with it. After that incident most of the kids his age in the area weren't allowed to talk to him. In middle school he became more of a loner and that stays true even to this day.

He still lives in a suburban-ish area. There aren't any houses near by but there is a road that joggers frequent near by.

Efren works from home as a cyber security guy for a whole array of websites ranging from sketchy to full on illegal. On top of being naturally strong he also has a talent for IT. In high school he would make simple viruses and hack into random websites for shits and giggles. That is actually how he got his job - he broke into one of those sketchy websites and after being tracked down on suspicions of being a fed he was offered to either work for them or perish (lol).

Efren has a very skewed sense of empathy. He doesn't feel much for people, you could confess your undying love to him or shoot yourself in the head in front of him and he wouldn't care either way. On the other hand he has insane levels of empathy towards animals, even the "gross ones" like bugs, snakes, arachnids, etc. He gets genuinely mad if someone kills a spider.

Other than a skewed sense of empathy Efren also has a very odd aggression response. His emotional response to being mad never results in impulsive physical or verbal aggression (yes ik in-game it's not really shown, I'll have to rewrite a few sections). But what does illicit impulsive physical aggression in Efren is something cute. That is the primary reason he won't get an actual pet cat, even though he desperately wants one, he is terrified of hurting it.

Ok now for a rapid-fire-round-up of small fun facts:

Efren hates beer! His favourite alcoholic drinks are a vodka-redbull and a banana daiquiri.

Efren is a massive nerd, he grew up spending all his free time playing video games and nowadays since his schedule is pretty lax he spends a large amount of his time watching anime and playing FPS shooters.

Efren has a two pet tarantulas named Tarantino and Tammy (they are both female).

A what if I found that I have to wonder.

So this began with a youtube short claiming that Vegeta was the reason Gohan and Krillin survived as long as they did. But this was not the only time I’ve seen a what if like that. Dragon Ball Multiverse (DBM) has a Timeline where Krillin killed Vegeta. While Krillin did die, Gohan was able to successfully get the Dragon Balls before Frieza decided to flip the board and kill them. But what would possibly happen? Let’s take a look...

For starters, at Chapter 53 (246 overall) we find out Frieza already knows about the Dragon Balls because he overheard Vegeta talking about them. Cui wouldn’t go to Namek since he only did so to fight Vegeta. Chapter 62 (255 overall) has Gohan and Krillin escaping from Dodoria since he decided to just blow up the area instead of looking for them. It would be after that where he would normally be attacked by Vegeta, but not this time.

So Dodoria would return to Frieza with news on his actions. Now there are two ways to see where this goes: Frieza gives him the command to find the bodies like he did for Zarbon or trust that Dodoria would have done the job like he did in the Bardock Special. DBM explored it with Dodoria going back, but considering Frieza was so nonchalant when he didn’t return, I would suspect he would have trusted Dodoria did the job. 

Which means Krillin and Gohan would be safe to travel across the planet as long as they remain stealthy. So when Zarbon is getting close when Krillin and Dende head to Guru’s hut they can hide as he passes them over. Sadly, by the time they get to Guru’s hut, it is possible that Frieza’s forces would have found the remaining Dragon Balls even without the souters. They did find the remaining villages before Krillin talked to Guru in the normal timeline.

By the time Krillin gets his powerup, I would suspect they would sense a lot of Frieza’s soldiers in the air. They would have figured out that the Dragon Balls need a password and are looking for any Namekian still alive. So to boost their chances, Krillin volunteered to protect Guru while Nail and Dende (who also got his hidden potential unlocked) get Gohan. And since he is flying around at top speeds, he would most likely get the attention of Dodoria or Zarbon.

Since Nail is strong enough to face Frieza’s first form and would have helped against the Ginyus, I would suspect nobody is a threat to him, so he would take out Dodoria and Zarbon if he faced them. Now with everyone with their potential unlocked and Frieza’s Ship having only Frieza being the threat, I can see them make a plan of luring Frieza away as the rest go for the Dragon Balls. It worked when Frieza found Nail via a scouter, so I can see him following Nail if he made the request.

So while Nail is buying time, Krillin and Gohan take out whoever remains as even if Zarbon or Dodoria did not face Nail I see them more out there looking for Namekians than staying behind. So that means they eventually get the Dragon Balls and summon the Dragon. Nail wouldn’t be as beaten up by the time Frieza figured out the Dragon is being used. And since Krillin either acted before Goku could say not to kill him or ignored it and killed him, I would bet Krillin would ignore Piccolo’s request for coming to Namek.

Then I would suspect that King Kai would tell Krillin to wish for every entity not related to Frieza to be teleported to Earth, in the hopes that it will not only bring in any surviving Namekians, but also the dead as well. And by the time Frieza arrives (which would be after the third wish was said in the original timeline), they would all be gone. On Earth, they use the last wish to safely bring Goku back to Earth and use the Earth Dragon Balls to resurrect every Namekian. 

And thus, this is what I think would happen if Krillin killed Vegeta. A more positive outcome compared to the two above. With the added bonus that Frieza would not realize they went to Earth, since he believed Dodoria killed the two and doesn’t suspect them traveling from there. But what about the rest of the Sagas? Let’s find out next week.

i know what you mean about 2x05 especially, it always bothers me. i swear, on my death bed i'm gonna be like "the drew crew's treatment of nancy in 2x05 was unfair and while they "apologized" i wanted a more substantial apology, especially because nancy never forced them into anything with the agleaca" and everyone is gonna be like "okay, can you please move on from this?" lol. i agree about the wraith storyline, i think that one and nancy being lucy and ryan's daughter are the strongest storylines they had on the show and were the best executed (but regardless, the writers always managed to leave me surprised, they definitely knew what they were doing!)

I am so happy someone agrees. I usually always see people defending the crew, but so rarely do I see someone actually saying that their treatment was wrong and there should have been more apology for it. And yeah! The writers were great at plot twists for sure. I never saw them coming.

That's tough because rep is full of bangers! But I do also go feral for Don't Blame Me (the reputation stadium tour version is like... stuff dreams are made of). i’ve really never thought of the arrangement of tour before but seeing it live it’s so interesting because while the order seems random it’s not in the slightest like it starts with a visual of taylor’s shadow leaving all the rooms in the lover house then as she’s entering it poises her in front of a mirror in the “lover” room and her reflection LEAVES and taylor soon follows the visual into the mirror which is interesting because the mirror figure is wearing a yellow dress and the opening song depicts a sense of coming home BUT THEN the lover era set ends with asking “who could stay?” AS SPARKS FLY ACROSS THE STAGE setting the first spark against the lover house and transition into fearless (yellow dress, first album re recorded owned after lover was first album owned) and she talks about going back to high school and plays songs that objectively evoke that feeling (she could’ve picked any song from fearless to be there with the two other hits but she chose fearless and i get it!) AND THEN the stage transitions to tis the damn season (also i noticed how there was a thematic of summer > fall > winter > spring throughout the eras which was also neat and depicted so well i can go into it later) a song about coming back to your hometown, almost like traveling back to high school…. and i think a lot about the lyric “it always leads to you” in regards to the road not taken and i think all songs chosen from evermore falls into that alignment (also the visual of the tree branches of a champange problems showcasing another metaphor for fork in the road) marjorie: choosing a life of fame, willow: choosing the guy and you live happily after ever, champange problems: the choices of marjorie and champange problems from the guy’s perspective, and tolerate it: choosing the guy and it ruining your life and then i think this is where she burns the lover house to then go into reputation our bestie the story of rebirth and reclamation (spring) starting with ready for it where there is never a moment where the stadium is not illuminated in bright blinding lights then going to delicate where it is dark for nearly the entire song only briefly pulsing when she cracks a part of the visual then jumping at the end of the bridge completely shattering the glass as light floods the stadium then to go to dbm saying i don’t have to hide this isn’t my fault and then going and reclaiming her past in lwymmd when all the glass boxes open and the one following reputation taylor also shatters freeing speak now/ enchanted and starts over the summer theme with flowers falling around and saying they’re enchanted to meet the freed version in a way, because you see the box motif from reputation continue throughout the rest of the show starting with red and the way you hear the old songs playing from inside the chest before finally starting 22 a song about being happy and free (which i also found the red era arrangement neat cause she ends it with ‘it’s supposed to be fun turning 21’) to slowly morphing and changing that mindset as the fall turns to winter and then the folklore prelude where she starts with 1989 to say this is how i’ll be remembered but the truth is i hit my peak at seven and that’s how i hope to be remembered and then don’t even get me started on folklore being the song between each love triangle song and it in the order of timeline relevance especially adding the bridge of illicit affairs to the end of august which just, and saying i’m letting you go in my tears ricochet to then reflect similar to the 1 only with the bitterness of the story we now know with cardigan. and here’s where i start to forget but the house being quiet as winter comes and goes and we’re back to who people expect us to be in 1989 starting with style and ending with bad blood (wildest dreams would’ve made slightly more sense but i think it stays within the prelude of 1989->younger days aka what she considers the debut section) only to then dive into the water washing off her past until she realizes she can’t and accepts it into her life

and just so more just in midnights alone but ending the show with saying she’s a mastermind and also karma effects us in mysterious ways lines the show up so well and the way all the singles and eras are arranged genuinely tell such a beautiful story that’s very cohesive and visually pleasing if you look for it

there are a few exceptions such as

- iron maiden’s “wasted years” and “remember tomorrow,”

- the star wars main theme (i’ve gotten a few stares from blasting this in my car at top volume),

- mercury and me by jim hutton. very insightful not only because of the band but because of the way he wrote about freddie’s aids progression. it was kind of brutal. heartbreaking thinking about freddie, arguably one of the best singers in history, battling such a disease. it was horrible.

- all the young men by ruth coker burks. she’s a living saint. she tells the stories of the men she dared to help cross over to the other side during the aids epidemic in the south. not many were willing to do so.

- funny story by emily henry. a straight romcom novel, yes, but enough romance to help me get through the parts i had a difficult time writing (essentially all the spicy scenes between wyatt and mason). i’ve struggled with writing spice since i got sa’d in college so this helped immensely. and don’t come for me accusing me of not being able to write gay spice, because i can’t write straight spice either. it’s a work in progress.

i also talked with my high school english teacher, with whom i haven’t had a conversation since 2020, when i graduated. let me tell you this woman was a beacon of light in that christian hellscape of a high school. she supported me and still continues to. when she asked about what i was writing lately, i told her, and she began telling me stories about her colleagues from college who all died from aids. it was very emotional, very insightful, and we both cried. love you, mrs. o.
