I haven't used Google in years, except for maps and street view, which it's still better than everyone else for. But other than finding directions, I've no intention of ever using it again.

A relatively easy thing for Elon to do would be to buy up DuckDuckGo - which is presently the best search engine out there but used far, far, far less than Google - and then overnight incorporate it into X as well as remaining a standalone website. Would require very little effort and he'd probably be able to get it for comparatively very little money. Plus, he'd be able to give it a less ridiculous name.

If he is seeking to create a search engine, though, it is possible he'll want to do it from the ground up, so as to be sure it does not have the implicit bias and shady backroom stuff coded into it needing weeding out like at Twitter, and DDG definitely has more bias in its results these days than it used to.

I am still surprised till this day that LA didn't create an IG for Juni like DDG did with his and Halle's baby. He's just Twitch famous, right? Or youtube? I forgot which and don't care. But it's obvious he's gonna use the baby now since using Halle would be way too obvious. I bet LA was seeking out not only praise, but potential sponsors and maybe an agent for Juni when she posted that 1st picture revealing the newborn's face, but then, was forced to delete. Her pattern since being with G has proven that.

Trust if it was up to her that baby would be all up and down those IG streets. Not showing her face is the one bit of privacy she allows Juni.

OHH girl yes ddg did take shots at Jonah on twitter. it’s even more pathetic cause he created another acc to pretend to be a fan and replied to a tweet that had a lot of likes that wasn’t even harmful, just ppl saying how cute Jonah and Halle looked and how they love them and Jonah is such a gentleman(this was during a red carpet event for the little mermaid and they held hands to take pictures, it was really adorable cause Halle looked nervous but Jonah showed up and she calmed down after he held her hand.).

So yeah. DDG in his fake account replied saying smth like ‘he’s nothing. When Robin Hood and Snow White were ushered to the dungeon for that pep talk that would embark them on their unlikely quest, it was the warden, named Atalanta Rancoreed, who stayed put, listening in, taking in every word the King said…

Atalanta’s job is simple. To tend to the cellars, to deal with the rough prisoners, to guard Lord Whistlegrimm when he steps into this dark ended place. Atalanta takes this job with pride. It’s a surprisingly perfect fit for a strong-willed guard who’d usually not be fit for a war. Atalanta loves the work. Practically lives for it too. To serve the king with your life is admirable to this warden, even if the job is as quaint as standing by the king should he enter the depths of the dungeon. But it’s still very much an important role. And after having to escort these two idiots and their pet bird down so Lord could give them the scoop, it was just another day.

But that day… Atalanta’s world suddenly changed. When your job is to stand guard to the king while he speaks down here, you just know you’re going to be overhearing a lot. And listen thoroughly to Lord’s words did Atalanta do so well! So much so that the words suddenly got to her head… a tincture that could rise the dead. How curious! You’d think she’d be smarter than to consider what she did, but that strange concoction that Robin and Snow would have to be questing to create sounded awful tempting. But it would be foolish to leave her post like this, especially if the King caught wind of it. But it’s far too promising for her. It’s the stuff of her dreams. And so, enlisting some help from her own brethren, the woman soured by greed snuck away, seeking out the very thing Lord recalled, wishing to claim the cure for her own reasoning. Reasoning she deems much more important than someone as simple as a gardener…

And so Atalanta will be a reoccurring obstacle, hoping to get her hands on what is not her’s to begin with for personal gain. This will be the first time she may resort to villainy to prove her perspective…

I’ve been super excited to show this one off! She’s got a lot going for her in terms of her character and has some twists with her motives. Needless to say though, these are technically still the reference rough drafts and I promise I’m working on her official reference!

A cool thing to note is that the reason I went with an apple theme is because of some iterations of Robin Hood being presented with shooting an arrow into an apple, and the poison apple of Snow White! This was… actually an unintentional coincidence I did NOT think about until I started thinking more about what kind of villain BMB would have! So Atalanta’s character is kinda an unintentional coincidence!

…as is with a lot of DDG and BMB. I have this weird habit of making spontaneous choices and then those seemingly random choices having meaning later. Pfft.

Fun details here: Atalanta has an arrow shaped tattoo/scar (I haven’t decided yet actually) on her eye to reference Robin Hood (or other iterations of Robin Hood since it’s not strictly to the original story) and the red parts of her face are vaguely shaped like a skull to reference the poison apple! She’s a golden apple though since not only are those common, but also a focus on the original Greek mythology story of Atalanta, who she’s truly named and based after! Rancoreed is a last name I made up with a surprising amount of depth to that I’ll get into later.

I dont think timmy is a "fame whore". Does he like being famous and all the benefits that comes with it such as the parties, brand deals, getting to meet other famous people of course but that doesnt make him a "fame whore". The struggle timmy fans are dealing with is that fact that timmy shattered what ever made up image they had constructed for timmy, a highly intellectual, deep thinker, emotional savan, next leonardo etc ( and he could very much be those things- dating kylie does not invalidate that) at the end of the day hes in his 20s he should be allowed to have fun and date whomever without being judged. To call him a "fame whore" is unfairly labelling him based on very little evidence and not taking into account the fact hes doing what any other person does in their 20s.

Grace Hopper ... a great American Woman

Known as "Amazing  Grace," Commodore Hopper's importance in U.S. naval history is apparent  everywhere you turn: a destroyer was named after her (USS Hopper, DDG-70), as  was the Cray XE6 "Hopper" supercomputer. As founder of the COBOL programming  language, a precursor to many of the software code approaches of today, her  work is legendary among computer scientists and mathematicians.

In 1943, during World War II,  she joined the United States Naval Reserves. She was assigned to the  Bureau of Ordinance Computation Project, where she became the third  programmer of the world's first large-scale computer called the Mark I. When  she saw it, all she could think about was taking it apart and figuring it  out.

"That was an impressive  beast. She was 51 feet long, eight feet high and five feet deep," Hopper  said.

She mastered the Mark I, Mark  II and Mark III. While  trying to repair the Mark I, she discovered a moth caught in a relay. She  taped the moth in the log book, and from that, she coined the phrase "a  bug in the computer." During her career, she mastered  the UNIVAC I, the first large-scale electronic computer, and created a  program that translated symbolic math codes into machine language. This  breakthrough allowed programmers to store codes on magnetic tape and recall  them when they were needed -- essentially the first compiler.

In 1966, Hopper retired from  the Naval Reserves as a commander, but she was called back to active duty one  year later at the Navy's request to help standardize its computer programs  and their languages. She was promoted to captain in 1973 by Adm. Elmo Zumwalt  Jr., chief of naval operations. And in 1977, she was appointed special  adviser to the commander, Naval Data Automation Command (NAVDAC), where she  stayed until she retired.

In 1983, a bill was  introduced by Rep. Philip Crane (D-Ill.), who said, "It is time the Navy  recognized the outstanding contributions made by this officer recalled from  retirement over a decade and a half ago and promote her to the rank of  commodore." Crane became interested in Hopper after seeing her March  1983 "60 Minutes" interview.

He'd never met Hopper, but  after speaking with several people, he was convinced she was due the added  status of being a flag officer. The bill was approved by the House, and at  the age of 76, she was promoted to commodore by special presidential  appointment. Her rank was elevated to rear admiral in November 1985, making  her one of few female admirals in the history of the United States Navy.

By the time of her death in 1992, Hopper was renowned as a  mentor and a giant in her field, with honoree doctorates from more than 30  universities. She was laid to rest with full military honors in Arlington  National Cemetery.

Hey I don't have links myself but re: that post about DuckDuckGo: I've seen a different version of the post with links to the CEO's Twitter where he refuted that (and explained why independent outlets fall lower in results) and I don't think it's true. There are a few reblogs in the notes with links. Also many of the alternatives in that list are Google or Bing clones posing as "independent" search engines to lure in people who are cautious about the big names.

Thank you so much for this info! TBH it's a relief because I've been quite happy with DDG, and I will now be on the watch for poser search engines!

My sideblog was tagged by @ancientstone and so I decided to post there AND on my regular blog!

Okay, so, I've been writing and not completing fandom stuff since I was at LEAST 16 which means over twenty years now, but I looked through my folder and I *think* these are my faves in no particular order:

1) Sinbad and the Garden of the Hesperides: a Proteus-heavy sequel to Dreamworks' animated "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas" because Proteus deserves ALL THE LOVE dammit! >:[  (currently over 41k words and unposted but stay tuned because I know the first 4-5 chapters are done at least...)

2) The Sense of Her: a FMA Royai one-shot taking place over multiple points in the series, each scene focused on one of the five senses (currently on AO3)

3) Gunslinger: written in a different narrative style than my usual (Old-West stylized omniscient present vs alternating third-person POV) it's a retelling of Roger Corman's (yes, I know) movie "Gunslinger" starring Beverly Garland that is one of my favorite MST3Ks (yes, I know) but still has really good bones to the story (unposted and honestly barely started but still has some damned good lines if I do say so myself)

4) No Miracle for the Likes of Us/Rebirth/Codename:Teen Idol 'Dite: *CHEATER ALERT!* These are _three_ Venus/Kunzite-centric Sailor Moon fics, but are set in the same no-Stars-AU, with the first detailing the fall of Silver Millennium, the second beginning with the Shitennou being revived immediately after the manga's SuperS arc, and the third being a plot line so heavily intertwined with Rebirth that I haven't decided whether or not to make them one big fic featuring Codename as specified interludes o_O;;; (overall size: *drops face into hands* it... it just keeps GROWING... *sobs*)

5) She-Ra: Princess of Power: a massive retelling of the original She-Ra series as a continuation of the Mike Young 200X animated He-Man and the Masters of the Universe series, with each chapter an "episode" (currently a highly disjointed >57k monster, but the first two "episodes” are on AO3)

DDG is just ugh… he created an Instagram for the child. To show the child’s fit with his face blurred and the caption is written in the baby voice most money seeking parents do. I don’t even feel bad for Halle no more because if u really think about this whole timeline of her saying in her own insta caption how we were the desperate one trying to see the baby it doesn’t make sense. DDG was the one that leaked everything from the start of the pregnancy. Starting with the whole April fools thing and then right after the birth he had showed her full body of her on his snap in that Xmas pjs and that’s how we knew she had given birth. And now the insta with the baby voice. If you go on his snap it’s ridiculous, showing “taking care” of baby and even taking the baby outside. Aren’t new borns suppose to even stay indoors for a while.

We are knew this man was not a private person and would air out their whole business online if he could from the stunt he pulled during TLM. Halle was warned but didn’t listen so now here she is, with him profiting off the baby.

With the continuance of the KOSA situation, I would like to bring up some alternatives to the modern web (below break). They're decentralized or don't really show up in search engines because they don't follow SEO that well. I've also included some Linux stuff.

If you have Linux, I know some great packages for you. I also recommend getting a Raspberry Pi since they are small, can run Linux, run on decently low power, are fairly cheap (but still more expensive than they usually are), and just as effective as a normal computer (just a bit slower). They're perfect for raspap and apache2.

apache2 - Host webpages on whatever network the server is on. Go to the hostname or local IP of the device to view the page. (Make the IP static so it doesn't change)

httrack - Download webpages. Be very careful to not download the entire Internet though! (just check your syntax)

raspap - Turn a Pi into a router. It is a bit hard to set up, but it can forward internet from other WiFi networks or run LAN. Go to raspap.com for install instructions.

xbomb & freesweep - Minesweeper. Freesweep can also run over SSH and in a terminal.

shred -fuzn <times to shred> <files> - This command is usually installed by default, but great for removing files when you don't want them to be recovered. 3-7 shreds works great.

apropos <search term> - Again, this command is usually installed by default, but it's helpful for searching command descriptions. For files, use find * | grep <search-term>.

Also get ProtonMail, @the-one-and-only-duckduckgo and/or @firefox-official (yes I tagged them because why not), and Linux (as it's much less Big Tech than other OSs). Seriously look into it. It's great.

In case FF or DDG are curious, I use FF on most devices (DDG for search) and DDG on my phone. I avoid chromium unless I can't, in which case I now try to use the portable FF (windows only) by copying the exe from a USB and running it from the music folder (because that's where important things go).

If anyone wants to share these tools, go ahead. I just compiled some so they're findable (stumbled upon by accident btw).
