It’s 3AM where I live at the time I’m writing this, and I am once again thinking way too much about the Hexsquad. Don’t know where I got the idea to begin with, but I was thinking about all the games we see on Luz’s laptop and then started wondering what it would be like if she introduced the rest of the Hexsquad to the world of human games, and what games they’d all enjoy.

I’ve not really seen this discussed anywhere, but these are just ideas I’m having in the moment of my sleep deprivation that I wanna share and yap about in my usual rambling fashion. I’d love to hear peoples thoughts and head-canons if they have any for this idea too too!

Amity:

I personally don’t think Amity would be that into gaming, at least not compared to the others. But if she were to have games she enjoyed, I can see her liking visual novels first and foremost as there’s something fun about throwing yourself into the story and having a choice in the direction things go/how you interact with the characters that she found so appealing; this idea kinda comes from the episode where we found out Amity had a secret collection of Good Witch Azura books and how she drew fan-art of herself with one of the characters.

I can also see Amity enjoying a rhythm game once in a while as they’re easy to pick up and put back down without having to worry about remembering a story; it isn’t too hard to learn them in the begining but the want to get good at them can become addicting. I feel like she’d love the casual competition in them and that she’d work hard to get the highest score she could so she can place in the leaderboards. Her enjoyment of rhythm games would soon lead her to get heavily into DDR and she’d enjoy going to play it at the arcades with Luz on their dates, I think she’d pick up on it astonishingly fast.

Gus:

Sandboxes all the way! I can’t explain why this is my first thought for the life of me, but I can see Gus really enjoying The Sims and Minecraft particularly in the sandbox genre. I especially love the idea that he’d play MC on splitscreen mode with his friends if there was a console in the Noceda house. I think Gus would also really enjoy RPG’s too, especially if he found one or two of Luz’s old JRPG games lying around. I feel like he’d love the flashiness of the fights and ‘all of the amazing stories humans come up with’.

If he got into Sims, I feel like he’d create a household based on him and all his friends living together in a giant house, maybe he’d even make a household based on the crew in Cosmic Frontier. I like to think he’d excitedly drag the rest of the Hexsquad to come see the things he’s made/done in the game too.

At some point he’d wonder if it’d be possible to make a ‘real life sims’ with illusions, though he’d hesitate to try it out as he was worried something would go wrong (as it seems illusions sometimes do the opposite of what you want, as seen with his illusion clone in one of the episodes, I don’t remember which one rn lol).

Willow:

I don’t know what this genre would be considered, and I feel like this is totally obvious, but if she were to get into games I can see Willow absolutely loving the games that require a lot of player-movement, think things like Just Dance, Wii Fit Ring, Beatsaber, etc etc. Anything to get the blood pumping. She’d find it fun how she could get her friends to join her on the multiplayer ones and enjoy the playful competition of it all.

In her down time/when she needs to cool down from some intense training/exercise if she wanted to play games she’d probably enjoy a good cozy game such as a gardening simulator. For her, while it wouldn’t be the same as taking care of real plants, it’d be nice to have her own little digital garden she can look at and make as big as she wants (especially while they’re stuck in the human realm, I can’t remember if this is canon or fanon but I feel like she’d have a greenhouse back at home in the Demon Realm? And she’d miss it a lot; so it’d be nice to try and recreate it in a game.)

Last of all, Hunter!

I will admit, some of my ideas for Hunter in this is partially me projecting some of my fave genres, but I can genuinely see Hunter being big on puzzle and strategy games! Basically anything that requires him to think and or learn tactics on how to best play the game. I feel like he’d enjoy a good mystery once in a while too.

I think Hunter would probably enjoy the idea of stealth games too, but he’d struggle playing them either because it reminds him of his time as Golden Guard too much, or he gets way too anxious trying to stay stealthy in them and it ruins all the fun for him. I can see him also maybe getting into rougelites/likes or dungeon crawlers because of Luz. They’re easier to get into than stealth games as they don’t cause him as much stress.

At some point he’d find a game he loves out of all the ones he tried and focuses on that one and that one only, he just completely obsesses over completing/getting good at it as he needed something to keep him occupied as having nothing to do makes him nervous. So much so he ends up 100%ing it in a shockingly short amount of time. Everyone is worried because his eye-bags are getting worse, but it’s thankfully not nightmares keeping him up this time like they probably assume. He just got way too into the game and would forget to sleep.

Phantom AU. Catnip somehow works on Luz. It is weird & Luz finds this out the hard way when she accidentally gets wiff of some of it. Amity ends up having to baby leash Luz because she gets the zoomies & just starts vibing with the universe. Amity just drags Luz home & distracts her with a laser pointer for a few hours. Luz & Amity are extremely good @ DDR & on one of her first dates with Amity the two of them spent a good 2 hours just playing the machine. The fun ended when a ghost showed up.-P

Other things hunter gets into in the human realm: DDR. Willow also gets into it & they're really competitive w/ each other but also like doing it as a team! They once did a 8 hour dance marathon to win some obscure prize at the arcade Gus wanted. They're literally there from opening to closing. They give the thing to Gus and he's like "omg thank you guys I can't believe you got one million tickets in just one day :D" and they're like "no problem Gus, we love you Gus" and then both immediately pass out on the sidewalk.

(tbf that's a slight exaggeration. Willow is better than that when it comes to self care and she'd make sure hunter would be too. But they do definitely bust their asses to get Gus whatever it is he wants. Probably like. A resin skull half filled with neon blue liquid. Something weird that you only find for extortionate prices at arcades . They probably get kicked out by a manager after 2 hours of hogging the game and come back next week, and the week after that, etc. By the time it's all done they're banned from the arcade but it's worth it)

No huntlow first date concept is ever gonna top whatever the fuck this is. This is a special kind of chaotic beauty to me. They are just pals hanging out so they don't call it a date but I will. And this date involved dancing themselves to the point of aching legs, drinking round after round of slushies to keep their energy spiked, ceremoniously presenting Gus with the stuffed highlighter pink monkey that he really wanted and then both of them, smelling absolutely rancid, bursting in Camila's front door to celebrate today's victory, only to conk out on her couch half a minute later. It is important to note that they fall asleep on all tangled up with each other. They were barely lucid enough to remember what personal space is. It will once again occur to them as soon as they wake up.

It's like. They've got all this competitive energy coiling up inside of them and they're not allowed to play flyer derby in the woods anymore cuz somebody was close to spotting them last time. So they find their outlet in the form of ddr. Originally its just Willow dancing for fun and Hunter watching, until she talks him into playing against her. And it's all fun and games for the first two rounds while Hunter figures out the mechanics. But ohhhhh now he's gotten serious. So Willow is encouraged to put a little more effort into it. One game later something terrible clicks and their mutual competitiveness feeds into each other and now they are ruthlessly determined players and they're out for blood.

("Blood?" Hunter asks incredulously. Willow shrugs "The machine's blood. Cause, yknow. We're gonna kill this thing.")

Anyway it definitely started off as them just aiming to get something Gus wanted (cuz he looked at them with his big ol' eyes.) But now they're just addicted and use Gus as an excuse. Not that Gus is complaining. He's now drowning in cool stuff because he's lucky enough to have besties who are maniacs. But sometimes he'll be like "Aight imma head home. You guys have fun."

And Willow calls "Tell Camila we'll be home late tonight!"

Which he does. And Camila and Luz are like 👀 but Gus just sighs "Nah. The actual reason is much dumber than that. But they'll sleep like babies tonight :)"

Anyway the manager hates them. Completely fucking hates them. Keeps trying to kick them out because of all the complaints about them hogging the game but they are very adhesive. They get run from the place, only to pop up again the next morning literally five minutes before opening hours, faces pressed up against the glass, Hunter counting down the minutes on his watch. Everyone who works there dreads the sight of them.

Terrorising the local arcade staff and dancing until they collapse and downing blue slush until they feel like throwing up and developing a pavlovian response in their feet to hearing dynamite rave really made them fall even more in love.

Owl House HC Lost Adventures - shenanigans the Hexsquad could've gotten into in the human realm: 5) Amity going to an arcade and becoming obsessed with DDR and getting the highest score, Willow trying and failing to win at a claw machine, Hunter attempting to beat a cheap fighting game boss, and Gus being afraid of the machines after realizing they can be addictive quarter sucking machines. Camila, Vee and Luz need to pull the first three out and find ways to fight the gaming addiction.

the DDR machine is connected to other cabinets across the country and Amity is determined to get the high score from this “Sash/Anne” team. After a few fails, Willow just has a vine snake in and take the prize she wants. The final fighting game boss strangely looks like Belos and so Hunter is determined to beat him to help conquer his fear. Gus learns that his illusions can fool the machine and “pays” for everyone at the arcade but his large cup of quarters poofs away when some bullies try to steal them and Hunter uses his new fighting game skills to defend his new little brother

[🔹] After Victory-Concent learns his once space travel companion Rinon got herself trapped and corrupted by 'The Dark One' being none other than Dark Rinon herself, he recruits the help of his allies and even rivals (space outlaw pair Dark-Zukin and Kyo-fu Concent) to help him. But after Dark-Zukin gets hurt, Kyo-Fu had enough and calls him out for willingly putting his own friends in danger and quits, taking his partner with him.

I've been wanting to write/draw this for ages. I just adore the Konsentos and Zukins from DDR.

For context, I got the idea Victory, Rinon (and Gus) went on random space adventures from that one art poster of them, seeing as Victory is a Robo hero and Rinon is an android from space who's mission from her Master is also to take down a target.

And how does a hero Robo determined to save the galaxy from evil deal when the current biggest threat is his friend under control of corruption. Can he even save her or is she too far gone?

Also I like the idea of outlaw couple Dark-Zukin and Concent Kyo-Fu.

In hindsight, maybe it would have been better to go straight home from work that day, rather than hanging around Dongdaemun once his shift was over. But when your choice of evening activities is either going back to your (small as hell) apartment to be subjected to your roommate’s PDA with whatever girl he’d brought home this weekend or an evening window shopping, Ren knows what scenario he infinitely prefers.

Which is how he finds himself in this particular situation.

He’d been looking in the window of a rival clothes store and had been about to go in (for purely investigative purposes of course) when he’d been tapped on the shoulder by a kid who didn’t look all that long out of high school. And then he’d commented on Ren’s looks, which of course lead to him having the model right in the palm of his hand. Until Park Junse made his proposition, that is?

“Wha-- H-hang on a second, I don’t dance, you can’t expect me to-!”

However his protest were overruled by a promise of ‘it’s just a short clip, less than twenty seconds’ and incessant pleading that Ren couldn’t help but crumble to. Damn this kid and his puppy dog eyes, how the heck he pull it off so well?!

Standing a few feet in front of Junse, Ren blinks in surprise as the music comes on, a fast paced song that reminds him of DDR. After a second pause he throws himself into the rhythm; leaping around, head banging like he’s in a concert and waving his limbs around erratically along with a few air punches. Despite himself, Ren gets far more into it than he’d intended and he’s left a bit befuddled when the music suddenly cuts off.

“Eh~? Done already? But I was just getting start...”

Ren trails off has he realizes his antics have garnered them a small but vocal crowd. Combined with the slightly frozen smile on Junse’s face, Ren realizes that he may have overdone just a little bit.

(Maybe a lot.)

Flushing red to the roots of his hair, all Ren can do is choke out an acknowledgement to Junese’s slightly shell-shocked thanks before her makes a run for it towards the subway.
