I can't even begin to tell you how extremely happy I am I picked this fic!! I had been literally talking about priest Cas with a friend a couple of days before claims, and it was THE hardest thing ever to keep quiet about the story 🤣

It has been a delight to work with Sam during these few months, she has been so incredibly lovely and patient with me and I really hope my art can do her amazing work justice 🥰

There's SO many good scenes in this fic, I literally wanted to draw all of them but unfortunately this annoying thing called 'real life' kept me from doing that. (rude.)

But anyways, please go read this masterpiece! You will not regret it 💜

Dear Father

Summary:

It’s 1973, and it’s the middle of spring, and each passing day is warmer than the one before it. The troops are returning from Vietnam in droves, and the American shores they stumble upon are just a little more accepting of homosexuality than the ones they left all those years ago. But Father Castiel Novak has never even stepped foot out of Salvation, let alone out of the Midwest, and as the only priest in this very small town, he’s determined to remain in the closet until his very last breath. Things take a turn when Salvation’s newest resident confesses to having urges for other men. Dean Winchester wastes no time in asserting himself as both intolerably arrogant and an ungodly temptation, and Castiel’s only defense is to keep his distance. Despite his best efforts, a friendship still ensues, and it’s a very slippery slope then, with things going from bad to worse when Dean offers his self-proclaimed good hands to help bring Castiel’s family home back to life.

I finally had the privilege of arting for @deancaspinefest! I loved drawing for @fallenangelandpie's canon-divergent fic Djinn and Tonic, which is full of post-15x18 Dean pining (mmm yes my favorite kind of pain). It also deploys one of my favorite devices from the show, djinn-induced dream worlds, as a pathway from self-destruction to self-acceptance. And also kissing. I loved getting to play with visual distortions, divergent styles, and surreal image elements, and it was an even bigger bonus to include a nonbinary hunter character. I hope y'all enjoy the story as much as I did!

Yes, two days in a row I’m coming at you with new art, and today it’s my @deancaspinefest collaboration with the fabulous @angelcasendgame!  Do you love angst and longing? Do you love our Dean and Cas bloody and dirty and suffering while they pine? Do you love Purga(y)tory stories anywhere near as much as I do? If so, then you are going to love this story! 

I’ve been so giddy waiting to share these pieces for some time now—I’ve been sitting on that last one in particular since December as it was the first scene that jumped out at me from the story that I had to try to draw. I was so excited to have the chance to do my first portrait of Billie as well, and I really love how she came out.

renu was an amazing bang partner as well, so enthusiastic and encouraging and I really hope this story gets the love it deserves. <3

Summary:

With his little brother at Stanford and his father searching out leads, Dean Winchester is left to hunt alone. It's fun, except in the ways that it really blows. Things start to turn around when he meets Castiel Novak, another hunter. Castiel is aloof and maybe a little too sarcastic, but he's good backup (and pretty easy on the eyes. Not that Dean's looking or anything). 

After a few hunts, Dean is willing to make his and Castiel's partnership permanent and he's not exactly averse to adding another component to their partnership either; after all, he's caught Castiel looking at him just as many times as Castiel's caught him looking. But Castiel is hiding a secret, and it's so explosive that it threatens to not only tear them apart, but also tear apart everything Dean believes in.

Dean in a laced brocade wedding dress! What else can I ask for!! Drawing Dean's face with makeup was so very difficult for me (hell I cannot even do makeup on faces in real life let alone Dean's pretty too-difficult-to-draw face) but at least I got the brocade feeling hopefully :D

I wanted to draw Cas in true form for so long but never had the courage/inspiration to do it. Thanks the fic for giving me the chance! Had so much fun drawing Cas' eyes, skin, scales, and claws 🤣 Also I drew six wings for the first time! And Dean is all powered up :D

I want to say thank you to Skye. She always gave me positive feedback and helpful detailed information, encouraging me through the scenes I had never drawn before. Please go reading the fic it was so much fun!

When Cas did his big confession and returned from the Empty, things were not going as well as they could have. Cas came back without either his wings or memory of said confession. After days of lies, Dean finally told him the truth and accepted his own love for Cas. Two months on, they’re still disasters. It seems that love isn’t all that you need to successfully be in a relationship, and that Dean’s lies might have had a deeper impact on Cas than he previously thought. When Sam goes missing on a hunt, followed by Jack, Dean and Cas are forced to confront their issues while desperately trying to keep their family alive.

Check out my art for Pinefest 2023 to accompany the incredible fic Depth of Field by @tessetc. This fic is at the same time heartbreaking and heartwarming, taking you through Dean and Cas's incredible love story that reaches through time. This was a super interesting pick for me because about 5 years ago I participated in my very first big bang (for a different fandom) and the fic was also a time travel story that leads the main character to make some very difficult choices, so five years and I think more than 10 big bangs later, it felt a bit like coming full circle. This is also my first fest featuring all digital art! Make sure to read under the cut to see the unedited versions of the "photos."

Dean, a professional photographer, is taking photos at the Fourth of July parade when he spots an old man with striking blue eyes across the street. Dean follows him, but before they can speak, the man falls down and dies with his hand in Dean’s. Dean feels responsible, and seeks to learn more about the old man, retired doctor Castiel Novak. Dean discovers that Castiel once owned Dean’s house, and comes to find an old camera amongst his things. When he takes his own portrait, it sends him hurtling back fifty years to 1962 where he meets a young, handsome, Cas. They can’t help falling for each other. But Dean can’t stay in 1962. His connection with his brother, Sam, pulls him back to 2012. Determined to see Cas, he uses the camera to return, but each time he travels to the past, it takes a greater toll on his body. Eventually, in order to stay with the man he loves, he has to make a heartbreaking choice.

Here are the two unedited versions of the photographs. I added filters to the colors and contrast of each image, giving them a more washed out, yellow look, then added a soft noise filter to give the drawings that vintage photo quality.

This year for the @deancaspinefest I created art for @fanboi214's gorgeous fic Fall A Little Further.

Fanboi's writing is lush, dark, and moody, and the pining is off the charts. I absolutely adored creating this art for his fic, and I only hope I've done the story justice 🖤

Summary:

When Dean’s grief is loud enough to wake him in The Empty, the entity casts Castiel out, but not without a price. He comes to in a barn in Pontiac, Illinois, with no memory of who or what he is. With nothing but an initial on the back of a photograph, and his heart’s instinct telling him to head west, Castiel begins a journey of self-discovery. Meanwhile, Dean is a broken shell. Rather than live under his brother and Eileen's pitying and concerned gaze, Dean decided it was time to move out of the bunker. With Jody’s help, Dean moves into a small lake house just outside of Sioux Falls, where he can mourn in peace and in his own time. Dean is determined to be better for Cas, even if it’s too little too late. Little does Dean know that it is never too late, as the Cas in Dean’s dreams is doing everything he can, to find his way back home. 

First of all, this is my very first bang and I was so excited and nervous about how it was gonna be. Desirae was lovely to work with, she was so supportive of everything I shared with her, and her story is so lovely and heartwrenching that I couldn’t have asked for a better partner for my first experience. Please shower her story with kudos and comments, because I legit got teary eyed when first reading it 🥹

That aside, I’m terrified about posting my art but here we go, I hope you all enjoy it 🙈

Art claims for the eighth annual Dean/Cas Pinefest have officially ended! 34 fics were claimed by 23 artists. Dean and Cas are going to be having big pine-filled feelings for so many pages, you guys.

Art Masterpost: Everywhere Story by LoversAntiquities (@tragidean) Art by sidewinder (@hawkland)

It was so, so exciting to get to work with @tragidean​ again—and to get to open this year’s @deancaspinefest on Destiel Anniversary Day, no less! I absolutely adored this story and I hope you do as well. I always love the sense of atmosphere and location in Ash’s stories and so I wanted to try to capture as many of the varied ones featured in “Everywhere” as possible. I had fun playing with a bunch of different techniques on these pieces, too: loose washes for the sunrise through Cas’s sunroof and the aurora borealis in his dream, using watercolor gesso to build up the texture of Cas’s wings before adding interference paints to create a shimmer effect, and including some handmade metallic/glitter paints in the last piece for the sand (and sparkly highlights in Dean’s hair :D).

I’ll be back later in March with another Pinefest collaboration with a very different vibe, but for now please go read this fic and be sure to give the author plenty of love!
