gifs and other things from the old sky high game hosted on the nat geo kids website! i retrieved a swf file from the wayback machine (link to that) and used jpexs flash decompiler to view all the internal bin files and stuff. im sure someone more familiar with flash would be able to do more with this than i could but heres some things i got out of it
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you can actually play the game from the file using adobe flash player which is super cool, to my knowledge youll need to find some kind of old download to it for it to work though. if you just want to play it in your browser theres an archive of it on the wayback machine

Hi, would you consider doing a tutorial for your main menu mod? It's lovely and I like how you sharpened the edges of the boxes.
There may already be tutorials about this, but I haven't found any so will do a small tutorial myself ^^ (also not quite sure what you meant by sharpening box edges, i don't think i did but lmk if i just didn't understand something)
✨🌳 Making a Main Menu Replacement for the Sims 4 🌳✨
Tumblr media
❕ You'll need: • Sims 4 Studio • JPEXS Decompiler • Image editing software (Photoshop/Photopea/etc.)
👉 And download my TEMPLATE 🌷
🠇 Full Tutorial Under The Cut 🠇
1
🖼️ Open my template archive and get the picture templates - open them in image editing program and change to whatever you want (but don't change their dimensions, sizes and names!)
Tumblr media
I've also included a little explanatory pic of how to create '481 & 484' image.
2
✳️ Launch JPEXS decompiler (ffdec.exe), open the .gfx file from my archive - 62ECC59A!00000000!6D20AB71641B1539.gameentrylauncher.ScaleFormGFX.gfx (In the popup warning about SWF assets press "No to all")
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🔄 Under 'images' tab you'll see image entries called DefineBitsLossless2 (482,483...) - click on and replace each of them with your edited pics using 'Replace..." button at the bottom - according to their numbers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
💾 Once it's done, press "Save" and close the program.
Tumblr media
3
⚙️ Change the extension of that .gfx file to .binary (by typing binary instead of gfx at the end - you'll need to toggle 'File name extensions' in View catogory of Windows folder panel). Press 'Yes' on warning.
Tumblr media
4
✳️ Open 'Sims 4 Main Menu Replacement ~ Template' package with S4S, press 'Batch Import' and choose the (now) .binary file you edited - 62ECC59A!00000000!6D20AB71641B1539.gameentrylauncher.ScaleFormGFX.binary. It will replace the existing entry, visually nothing will change.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
💾 Don't forget to save!
Tumblr media
5
📁 Rename the template package to your liking and put it in Mods folder. That's it! Let me know if anything wasn't clear enough ^^
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
☽ CREDITS: • sigma1202 ~ Loading screen making tutorial (my tutorial is basically a copy of it with some adjustments) • @lama-lama ~ Main menu replacements (i took the initial package file from lama-lama's replacements <3 check them out, they're beautiful!)
Where did you get the fla/character files for the Homestar Runner characters? Or did you remake them by yourself? In any case, do you mind sharing them? If not, that's ok too. Have a great day!
i get asked this question a lot, and every time, i still answer.
i extracted them from official swf files via a flash decompiler.
ive thought about releasing them for other people to use, but ive been sort of hesitant about doing that, because i used to feel like such a rebellious lawbreaker for simply owning them. until i found out that it’s actually a really common thing for people to do.. and i felt really stupid afterwards… so.. maybe one of these days… i might..
hii sorry for bothering, but how did you rip the parts for allan? me being the fool i am tried to wing it and downloaded jpexs and messed around and found myself wholly lost... i think your stuff is super cool and you inspire me a lot !! so i just wanted to reach out and see if you were okay w/ sharing the process? thank you
i have no idea what the most elegant way to do it is, but this is what i was able to figure out on my own:
first you need a swf of the game you want to rip the sprites from.
then you'll need a swf decompiler, i also used jpexs so that's what i'll be using in this example too
first, load the swf file into jpexs
Tumblr media
you'll see a bunch of folders. This one, labeled "sprites" is where we'll be ripping from. But if you open the folder, you'll probably notice there's a lot of sprites to sort through. We specifically only want Allan, so we need to find his sprites specifically.
Tumblr media
go to the "tools" tab up at the top, then hit the binoculars icon that says "text search". From there, we're gonna type in "allan" then press okay. It may take a few minutes to search through the entire file, just wait for it to finish.
Tumblr media
After that, a new small window will pop up with all the search results. We're gonna click on one beginning with "customer_Allan" (it doesn't matter which one) then click on the "go to" button at the bottom.
Tumblr media
it's going to take you to another part of the project file, you'll notice in the red box here all of Allan's various parts are listed. Right now we have his body selected, so the text on the right is showing us the data related to that part. If we look at the data, there will be a bit of yellow text near the top that begins with "symbol" and ends with a number. That number is what we're looking for. In this case, it's 592.
Tumblr media
If we scroll back up in our project, back to the sprites, and we locate sprite 592 and select it, we can find Allan's body. It'll likely be flashing through the different alt styles when you click on it, that's normal. Once exported, you'll have each of those alt style bodies. In order to export it, we just have to click on the "Export selection" button here.
Tumblr media
from here you can choose the file type you'd like, and what size it'll export at. I was exporting mine at 2000% but that's likely overkill for your needs. I wouldn't recommend exporting them at anything less than 500% though, as otherwise they will come out rather small.
And that's really it. Just repeat the process for each of Allan's pieces and then reconstruct him in the program of your choice.
There are some issues with the rips, you might notice in between the solid blocks of color on the sprites are transparent gaps. You can either fill those in yourself, or export them at a very large scale and size them down. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to export them without the gaps yet
I discovered Derick/Man with Hockey Mask's REAL face (not clickbait)
Okay so
Recently i got the og swf file for the Christmas Special 2004 and i also had download a swf decompiler that can convert the swf into fla + show the symbols and stuff that has in the animation file
Like
All the characters, all the backgrounds, all symbols, etc
And between these, ofc there is the symbols of the bg characters!! And well, i found Derick's one.
His mask is a SEPARATED SYMBOL from his face and body. So in the symbol, he has no mask on
And then you think:
"Wow!! He must look so cute! Or handsome!! Or beautiful!!"
Ermmmm.....
Actually no.
Tumblr media
He is faceless.
Yes. No eyes, no mouth, no facial hair, no freckles or whatever. Just void.
Now, talking about 2trenchcoat, that means that..........
2004 Tord is dating a faceless man. *vine boom*
Yeah that's all thank you for coming to see my discovery byeeee
something interesting! But lower your expectations...
Morning, happy monday or upsetting monday to keep with the theme here and this isnt the big post I was working on thats coming soon in a few days or so but something else i think was quite interesting when doing a search last night I had found the .SWF for the Hoops and Yoyo Video Maker on Archive <-- download here
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, it doesn't function properly as I assume it depends on a server that no longer exists or flat out is just broken. You cant open the gallery but you can open the Video editor which doesn't really function.
Tumblr media
I wish it did work normally because seeing videos of it when it was active look so fun heres some down below. I wish I could say it worked but it doesn't seem to.
youtube
youtube
youtube
I assume this may or may not be a tie in with this short video which I LOVEEEEE
youtube
This video and costumes will have their own post at some point but for now enjoy it.
It may seem hopeless HOWEVER using a flash de compiler (Jpex Free Flash Decompiler just drag and drop a .SWF into it) you can view all its contents why it doesn't function right im not sure but heres some of my faves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
See you soon in a very exciting blog post!
-Penny <3
UPDATE User Choseascreename3127 who uploaded the .SWF file for video maker has uploaded its sounds and song samples to archive if youd like those.
Hey there. https://mcoap.toonarific.com/album_main.html so I found this website with archived ctoons and stuff but I'm not sure if they work.
They are labeled as swf files. But what program do you use to get them working?
Adobe Flash Player! Ruffle works since Flash is no longer supported. From the ones I've viewed, they do work. Most are static on purpose, but not all the ones that were supposed to have multiple frames/move were archived as such. Some have sound.
If you want to extract frames, sounds, or anything like that, use a Flash decompiler program.
On DTI, start a customization, and then right click on the customization/pet. You'll see "Layers (SWF, PNG)" pop up and from there be able to get each layer, isolated. You can download each layer as a PNG, SWF, or SVG.
You can decompile a SWF using JPEXS.
Tumblr media
A basic Acara seems to be Hind Biology, Body, Head, Eyes, Mouth, and Head Transient Biology. A Christmas Uni has also Biology (seems to be a completely transparent layer??), Wings Transient Biology, Hair Back, and Hair Front as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
does anyone know where/how i could find the heirarchy of the clothing and body part layers of a customizable Neopet? like with fanmade applications like Dress to Impress, it's gotta be known information, but i'm not sure how to find that info myself
can i ask how you access/rip from flashes? i haven't had any luck isolating them from the official website or the unofficial collection.
I (Arachnid) get them from the Unofficial Homestuck Collection! I previously had them all from the official site, 8ut that was 8efore flash went down, and I have a new laptop now so I lost everything. They're all there in the asset folder for the collection, 8ut finding them can 8e a little tricky.
You'll want to get into the unzipped version of the assets folder, and go here:
Tumblr media
[Asset Pack V1 - The Unofficial Homestuck Collection > Asset Pack - The Unofficial Homestuck Collection > storyfiles > hs2]
The storyfiles folder also has "hs" which I 8elieve is the 8eta release of Homestuck.
Inside the hs2 folder is a bunch of gifs for individual pages, and a bunch of folders for flashes. The folder names generally don't exactly line up with the canon page numbers, but most of them are close-ish. Most of the folders contain something that is [number].swf but some have slightly different names. Some also contain a [number]_hq.swf, which I'm fairly sure is just a flash with higher quality music. The "high quality" ones have the same quality art. Some folders also have the music for the flash.
I then go to https://extract.me/ to extract the images from the flash as a zipped folder. I 8elieve this is one I’ve used in the past, 8ut it’s a fucking hassle and not really worth it unless you need gifs or things that other site can't give you: https://github.com/jindrapetrik/jpexs-decompiler
I hope this helps!
EDIT: as of Dec 2022 I've 8een having issues getting extract.me to work! I've 8een using jpexs decompiler and it continues to 8e a 8it of a pain 8ut whatever it works.
organized my folders last night - this is all the software I use to rip game files, in case it helps anyone :-) some notes:
- dnSpy decompiles engine files from patho2 into C#, while IDA (free version) decompiles into assembly. dnSpy is easier to use by far - uTinyRipper gets everything out of unity assetbundles; AssetStudio is less thorough but lets you filter, preview, and select assets & has a nicer GUI - AssetsBundleExtractor and AssetsAdvancedEditor are forks of the same software, but I like ABE more. these are used to replace p2 files - JPEXS is for dissecting .swf files and WinBin2Iso is a quick fix for disk-based installers (neither of these are directly patho related) - ninjaripper is ideal for getting usable models out of p1, combined with its blender plugin above - and I have this in a separate folder but somevideoguy's unpacker is the requisite tool for all p1 assets
odd question but how do you go about ripping assets from the flashes?? i wanna try so i can get panels for edits without losing quality buuut im not entirely sure how. sorry if this ask is a bother!!
nah its not a bother at all! i love talking about tech-y stuff and im always happy to lend a hand!
youre gonna need some software though for this since its, well, decompiling flash assets!
do note that flashplayer no longer works, but that doesnt mean that the flash files are gone! they are still very much there!
ill be using [s] engage for this tutorial, but this can be done for every other flash except for ellsee: enter
1. go to the page that holds the flash files you want
Tumblr media
2. right click anywhere outside of the flash box and select “inspect” or “inspect element”
Tumblr media
this will bring up the elements console! it basically just holds all of the coding and css necessary for the page to work correctly
Tumblr media
3. click on the “sources” tab
Tumblr media
im very certain that your console should look the same as mine, but if it doesnt just let me know. well have to do things the hard way if it happens to come to that
4. locate the “loading swf file” text and right click on the .swf file
Tumblr media
the underlined text is the link to the flash file. right click on it and open it in a new tab. once you do that, it should automatically be downloaded to your computer
however, there is the possibility that it will trigger your antivirus
Tumblr media
just click “keep.” the flash files from vast error will do absolutely no harm to your computer.
NOTE: you will need jpexs free flash decompiler for these next steps!
you can download it here. it is completely free and is perfect for decompiling flashes.
5. open the flash decompiler
Tumblr media
everything here is pretty straight-forward. select “open.” you should be able to find your file in the downloads section, unless you moved it somewhere else.
Tumblr media
6. select your flash file and open it
Tumblr media
your screen should look like this
there are several dropdowns on the left hand side. feel free to browse through all of these and look through everything! seeing the flash all laid out like this is pretty cool!
now if you want panels, youll have to look through “frames.” but for transparents and assets id recommend looking through “shapes,” “sprites,” and “images.” frames take MUCH longer to decompile since, well, theres a lot of them! but transparents are pretty quick to decompile.
i would recommend using “export selection” for decompiling and making a separate folder titled after the flash you are decompiling. this is because it makes everything much easier, not to mention you dont risk getting anything that you dont want!
7. select which files you want to decompile
i will be using “sprites” for this example as its the easiest, but this works for every other dropdown option.
Tumblr media
all you have to do is click on the dropdown. it will be highlighted.
8. click on “export selection”
Tumblr media
the export popup should reveal itself here! just make sure both boxes are checked and that the dropdown shows “png.” you dont really have to do anything else here. click “OK.”
Tumblr media
this is where it helps to have created a separate folder for the files!
if youve already done this, then just select the folder you created (it will become highlighted) and click on “open.”
itll take a few seconds if you decided to decompile the transparents, but if you decided to decompile the frames then itll take anywhere from two to thirty minutes depending on how many frames there are in the flash.
thats really all there is to it though! if you have any questions, feel free to let me know!
Helloo! I have etxracted the swf models from the homestar runner files, the characters seem to be in pieces, and I have a lot of questions on how you animate, you dont have to answer if you wanna keep it secret, but I'm a busy person and sometimes i dont have time to search everything on my own XD But I can manage!
I wanted to know what to do with the characters' pieces, they are all animated joints I presume, since they mostly just move their limb and mouth. Also I was wondering how to put the files in adobe animate? (Im getting adobe animate soon so idk how it works) and also are they already rigged??
My method is decompiling an episode's swf into an fla file and then opening the fla in Animate and grabbing what I need from there. So they're already put together and rigged for me. I'm not entirely sure what you're using to extract your files or what you're converting the swfs into, but my advice to you would be to wait until you get your hands on a copy of Animate before you extract anything. It'll make the process a LOT easier.
anyways
owen total drama has an actual penis design. he has an actual penis. yes, i know this is a hard pill to swallow and believe, but it’s one you’ll have to accept.
don’t blame me, for i am just the messenger, blame CornmacO on twitter for this, for finding the ween and posting it
more details under the readmore (dont click at work, shit like that)
“ my worst tweet yet; Owen from Total Drama Island actually has a penis asset drawn for him that was always hidden in the show. I discovered this by decompiling the Totally Interactive and Flight Simmerator games into FLA, finding this discovery.”
these are the words cormac posted as he uploaded a picture of owen total drama’s penis
Tumblr media
the corrupted files made it look like it was just a funney fan edit, but he swore it was true, he swore there was a penis and he gave info on how to find it... so i fact checked it.
much like he said to do, if you don’t believe either of us, download flight simmerator's swf file (you’ll have to download a mirror from sites that upload flash games that arent theirs) and convert it into fla. open up the fla in flash and find the “owen” file. his penis doesnt exist on all the frames, but if you move his mosiac censor, you’ll find this
Tumblr media
“you’re lying together.” you may say. “you and cormac are attempting to trick us by teaming up” and to that i say... why? why would i do that? we have a bit of overlap in our friend circles, but we are far from friends. acquaintances, yeah, but friends? and why would anyone EVER want to lie about this?
Tumblr media
this knowledge haunts me so. i can’t sleep. this brings up so many fucking questions like
who drew this?
why is it here?
why wasn’t it deleted just in case it would randomly show up bc of animation errors?
since tdi was animated in flash also, does that mean the penis is also in the show’s assets?
does owen only have a penis, or do other characters that appear naked have bits for the sake of the funney?
and... where do we go from here? where do we go after finding out that a character from my childhood just... has a penis? what do we do besides cope? what can we do besides cope??
again, if you don’t believe me, that’s okay. i don’t want to believe it either. but it’s true, and it’s there. i am cursed with this knowledge, and now you are too.
I’ve managed to find an archive of the original Experiment profiler Flash SWF from the Wayback Machine thanks to their archive of the Lilo & Stitch: The Series TV Tome page!
Unfortunately, there are several flaws with this. The SWF file is stuck on a loading screen if it’s loaded in either Adobe’s standalone Flash Player projector or Internet Explorer, and trying to get the file to run in Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome (which are slowly removing support for Flash, mind you) just brings up a download prompt to download the same exact file. I managed to access more of the file through this Flash decompiler, from which I got this screenshot, but there are sadly no profiles or images of the experiments in the file. That probably means all the experiment files were completely server-side when the Lilo & Stitch: The Series website was online.
But hey, at least I’ve uncovered some Lilo & Stitch history here!
