Sibling Showdown!!!

This showdown consists of 64 sibling sets facing off against each other, as well as a few one-off polls of sets who didn’t make the actual bracket but who I wanted to include in some capacity.  Polls will last a week.  Round One of section A will go live on April 16, with section B going live the day after, section C the day after that, and section D the day after that.

Propaganda is allowed!  I just ask that it be kept positive.  Argue for your faves instead of against someone else’s.  Every sibling set who made it in the showdown is there because someone wanted them to be, so keep it kind.

Will the winners be the siblings that love each other the most?  That are most capable of killing other sibling groups with their bare hands?  That have the most sibling swag?  It’s up to you to decide!  You get to choose the manner and parameters you judge each sibling set for.

My ROTTMNT Headcanons:

Mikey:

-Slaps bandaids and stickers on everyone when they're sad! Also does the same for himself

-I love how everyone agrees Mikey can cook but I'd like to think he's memorized everyone's favorite meals and makes them on special occasions! He also totally teaches Casey how to cook so the poor boy can have a healthy and productive hobby to seperate his apocalypse life from this one

-Absolutely 100% is the most connected to his mystic abilities. He was the first to unlock them and overall shows a more deep seeded understanding of how they work. Draxum is also silently fascinated by him

-Follow up to the previous hc, after the Krang, Mikey totally trains every night to use his powers and the first thing he does is levitating a piece of pizza into his mouth

-Therapizes every single person in his family, they act all dramatic about it and poke fun at Mikey but they really do apprecate it

-Hides in his shell whenever he's sad and since it's super obvious, his family catches on quickly and can comfort him

-Has like 800 stuffed animals

-His art covers like 70% of the lair because Splinter and the boys keep hanging it up proudly and asking Mikey to make murals of them. Same thing applies to April and Draxum pretends to hate every drawing but in reality he has a special room dedicated to Mikey's art in his apartment

-Is the most empathetic of the group and knows exactly how to calm everyone down on bad days or nights

-Legally cannot say fuck (but Donnie is trying to influence him)

-Has scars on his arms from opening the portal and paints over them, turning them into art (ex: lines turn to vines with flowers or tree branches or little snakes or whatever), whenever he's down

-Painted a huge mural for his gram-gram in the lair

-Sobs hysterically at sad animated movies and shows (*handshake*)

-Calls Draxum mom and/or secondary dad

Leo:

-Sings obnoxiously loud in the shower

-Watches telanovelas late at night and gets really really into them

-Regularly practices sleight of hand and uses it in battle (once went to Hypnopottamus for lessons and neither ever talked about it again but Hypno is secretly proud of Leo's progress)

-Is a hardcore theatre geek with knowledge of plays and musicals that could rival Donnie's knowledge of other topics

-Tries to make people laugh any time he can, even if it's at his own expense

-If he could get a pet, it would be a bird so he could teach it phrases like "Dee is a nerd" and then follow Donnie around all day

-Has a bunch of nightmares about the Krang debacle and checks on everyone after he wakes up just to make sure they're okay. (Sometimes he runs into Raph and they both silently check on everyone together)

-Refuses to tell Donatello that he's his favorite brother because Leo knows it'll just go to Donnie's head

-Used to hate his face marks but his brothers kept telling him how cool they were and nowadays they regret it because all of that just fed his ego (they secretly don't really regret it)

-Couldn't sing if his life depended on it

-Is SUPER good at lying but uses it for good more than anything (ex: when they were younger, he once noticed Donnie not sleeping for a few days so he pretended to have a nightmare and asked Dee to come sleep with him to scare away the monsters. Donnie was our like a light in less than 5 minutes)

-Will do the most insane dares just for the honor

-Regularly goes to Hueso for advice

Donnie:

-Has somehow memorized every digit of pi and literally nobody understands how

-Listens to rain noises when going to sleep. Cannot stand the rain in person (it gets his tech wet)

-Is fantastic at making digital music and makes songs inspired by people and events in his life. He's also not great at singing but wow this man can rap

-Shouts "the floor is lava" at random intervals to see his brothers scramble

-Is the only family members with a driver's license

-Records EVERYTHING and due to this, he puts together people's compliments about him into a playlist and listens to them to either build his ego or just make himself feel better after a rough day

-^^^ Alternatively, he sometimes listens to people's insults as well. And oh boy, don'tcha know he also has the most traumatizing points in his life recorded too! We love listening to Leo sacrificing himself to the Krang over and over again

-Has organized the dishes in alphabetical order

-Really likes anime

-Keeps every gift ever given to him and organizes them neatly in his closet

-Really wants to exchange notes with Baxter Stockboy

-Has named all of his inventions and kisses them goodnight

-Experiences some side effects from controlling the Krang ship, such as tech being influenced by his emotions

-Takes and teaches dance lessons in secret (he uses a disguise)

-Is the best medic in the family and heals people's injuries after battles with assistance from Mikey who slaps bandaids on everyone

-Comes up with super elaborate comebacks to insults in his head after arguments but they all fall apart within 2 seconds of talking and it just devolves into calling people dumbdumbs

-Has an automated lab like Reagan Ridley from Inside Job (also unrelated, but they would totally be friends if they met)

-Uses humor to cope just like Leo

Raph:

-Is the only turtle brother who can genuinely sing

-Has stuffed animal play dates with Mikey's stuffed animals (they both try to keep it a secret and thinks nobody knows but EVERYONE knows and finds it hilarious)

-Collects coupons

-Has snacks stashed around the lair for snackmergencies

-Is the first one his brothers go to for comfort

-Carries his brothers at least 20% of the day

-Loves animals with all his heart but all of them hate him so Donnie made him a robo kitten when they were kids

-Volunteers to feed Repo Mantis' cat on weekends

-Cleans when he's stressed out

-Has eaten a whole watermelon in one bite, rind and all

-Constantly posts on social media but every picture is horrible quality

-Makes his brothers do team building exercises at least once every week during training

-Like Donnie, he also has side effects from the Krang attack but they instead take form in more psychological ways. He constantly questions if his thoughts are his own and if what he remembers sre nightmares or reality. He sometimes hears a voice in his mind but isn't sure if it's just an intrusive thought or something more

-Used to punch a specific spot on his wall whenever he got really excited because he can't keep his energy in so Donnie made him a special punching bag

-Loves watching Mikey cook and helping when he can

(this is actually a hack that jin and namjoon figured out during their early days and on their way back from a schedule they would make sure she was sitting with him)

State of the Blog

My Darlings! There be changes afoot, and it's time to give y'all an update.

I started this blog February 9, 2020 with this post, and I had no idea what a fun, passionate, fulfilling path it was going to take me down. I've met so many new people (and dragged a lot of old friends down with me, heh). I've learned so much, about fandom and tumblr and Chinese fandoms and culture: I'm so happily full. I'm replete. Just. Sumptuously abrim with fic and ideas and art and tropes and all the creativity and enthusiasm that abound in this fandom.

Y'all are wonderful, all of you, and I have loved every minute with you for the past 28 months and one (1) plague.

But my life is starting to insistently pull me in new directions, and I need to heed that call. So I'm giving the bulk of the blog over to your two new mods as I slowly withdraw. And, of course, you all know by now that the Fic Finders and Mood For categories have been spun off onto the @wangxianficfinder blog, capably run by Mod L and Mod C.

As of today, there are 7,808 of you! Having you all gathered in one place is really special, and also very practical, and I didn't want to just... cut you off from a great resource.  So, since I've been gifted with this fantastic fandom platform, I will now pass it into the responsible hands of Ju and Dee, who will do their own recs, and also continue with the other things this blog does like Follower Recs, Author Boosts, Fandom Event Announcements, and just general fandom mothering and support.

I'm not quite ready to vanish entirely. (And I have something like 100 recs I haven't caught up with, yet!) So you'll see me and my recs around for a little while. But do welcome and befriend your new mods. They're going to have a bit of a learning curve, so give them love and support.

And remember that all my recs are archived on my AO3 WangxianFicRecs' Collection where you can search through every rec I've ever made (including recent and future ones that I haven't made posts for yet). Disney+ Sets Premiere Date For Star Wars The Bad Batch Season 2 To Kickoff Disney’s 100 Years Of Wonder Celebration.

Disney has released a brand new trailer for the second season of the Star Wars animated series, “The Bad Batch”, which is coming to Disney+ with a double episode premiere on January 4th, 2023 this to kickoff Disney’s 100 Years Of Wonder Celebration.

The season starts months since the events on Kamino, and the Bad Batch continue their journey navigating the Empire after the fall of the Republic. They will cross paths with friends and foes, both new and familiar, as they take on a variety of thrilling mercenary missions that will take them to unexpected and dangerous new places.

A concept: Benny complaining about having to attend a formal event (he strikes me as disliking the idea but being fine in the moment), until he sees the dress you're wearing as you're about to leave. He'd immediately change his tune, but instead of letting him do whatever he's plotting, you turn the tables and spend the night edging him into oblivion with dirty talk in passing and by sending him pics of your (lack of) underwear you took before leaving, bc you KNEW this would happen. xoxo.

You’d watch each and every bit of his self-control chip away throughout the night. His hair would gradually get messier and messier from roughly dragging a hand through it whenever he glances down at the photos you’re covertly sending him. He’d begin skirting the lines of indecency as the evening goes on—his fingers trailing lower than they should, lips shamelessly stealing kisses along your neck when you lean in to talk to him.

There’s a 100% chance you’ll find yourselves locked in a bathroom at the ✨ esteemed venue ✨ that’s far too rich and fancy for the filthy, desperate way Benny ends up fucking you up against the gilded sink.

So hi! I really love character creation, it's one of my favorite things to do :')

Music like the Beatles, ELO, Queen, Will Wood, indie, punk rock, and really whatever I get when I hit an interesting recommendation (I'm eclectic)

Video games: Persona series, Fallout, Hypnospace Outlaw, Undertale, Sally Face, umm also indie horror games are generally where it's at for me

Jojo's bizarre adventure, one punch man, neon genesis

I was a theater kid at some point and am inspired by Chicago, Cabaret, Cats, Rock of Ages, and Rocky Horror for their wackiness/vibes

Webtoons/comics: Paperteeth!, After Dark, I'm the Grim Reaper, Lovebot, Space Boy, Solid State, The Prince of Southland, Yuna and Kawachan, Electric Bones...

Besides media, I am inspired by people I interact with (which can help me build character relationships) and qualities I pull from the inside. Also, I have had a strong interest in psychology for a long time, so my stories are very character-centered. I also like throwing in a funny edge to most things I create because I don't like being serious 100% of the time. I like to experiment with irony a lot, as you do.

I'm inspired by ideas I wish people talked more about, what'd I liked to have seen as a child, untraditionally beautiful characters, wacky characters, and characters flaunting who they are because they're proud to be themselves. I love unfixable characters who learn to find worth, characters who are overly complex, characters who fall from grace, blah blah blah. Or sometimes I just write characters for fun and with no real motive, who gain a purpose later on by chance. But not all stories need lessons or purposes or morals or whatever. Some things are more fun when they're just existing because they can. I feel like my wip Crater City is like somewhere in between having a purpose and having none at all.

Other things that help inspire oc: drawing them with random art generators, scrapbooking their very own page, filling out oc interviews, participating in writeblr events/games, spending a whole day listening to their playlist, forcing myself to write one scene with them in it, pinterest-ing, creating a blog/journal/site about them, etc.

who/what jumpstarted you into creating your own characters and stories

I started writing as a small child and would create illustrated "stories" based on real events that happened in my life but lowkey exaggerate them because I was like 6, hehe. Or play with barbies or legos or whatever and that's its own thing right there. Then I moved on to big boy things like writing in notebooks about girls with horribly made up names that mysteriously resembled Disney princesses' names because I'm bad at naming things (see: my webkinz pet named "the blue whale").

I'm not sure what jumpstarted character creation for me, I guess it was always this ✨️💕thing inside me all along 💕✨️. I think it was because I was a quiet child and kept to myself, which meant a few friends and a lot of introspection at a young age. But I was/am inspired by things all around me. Things that make me feel nostalgic, bittersweet, or whatever other emotion that's hard for me to explain because emotions are weird for me.

As a child, I created ocs based on who I wanted to be more like. Ex: an outgoing hero with bold hair, a strong anti-hero with a bit of edge, an adventurous hero who easily befriends others, etc, etc.

As a teen, I created ocs fueled by spite ("I can make better ocs than half of you seasoned authors even if I'm just a kid") and also my knowledge of the dsm-5. I think I was inspired most by my trauma, so yeah, that'll do it to you. I still dig deep down for some inspo from my Deep Dark Past™, which has helped me understand myself and ocs better, who would have guessed? But this doesn't exempt me from research.

As an adult I am motivated to write because of the impending doom that we all die some day so I better wrap it up before something happens to me and I lose my ability to write by some chance I'm out of college and I have my whole life ahead of me and have no more boring essays tying me down :'DD

Hey! I know this is a day late, but I had suddenly remembered what I wanted to ask you and thought I might as well ask now before I forget.

What do you think each Ed's parents think of their son's friends? (Eddy's parents thoughts on Edd and Ed, Edd's parents thoughts on Eddy and Ed, etc)?

I remember growing up at their age my parents knew at least who my closest friends were, and would of course have opinions (good or bad) on them. If you want you can also discuss how you think their impressions would change as they age (since we are going with the idea that they have been friends since early childhood).

As for the headcanons...

I think it's a given that nobody's parents like Eddy very much. He's an incredibly bad influence and kind of rude, but seeing as he's still around both Dee and Ed's parents at least seem to be respectable of their son's choices to keep him around. As Eddy gets older, I can definitely see him getting into more dangerous mischief that Edd's parents in particular would not care for one bit. I don't think they would make Double Dee stop being his friend, though, they would just be open about their opinions on Eddy to him and let him make his own choices. As for Ed's parents... I think they'd remain indifferent as he gets older as long as Ed doesn't get arrested along-side him lol.

On the contrary I think it's also a given that everyone's parents adore Double Dee. He's a model child, polite and kind, never causes trouble but somehow finds himself in the thick of it anyways. Now, I think the only person whose opinion of Double Dee might change as they get older is Eddy's Dad's but really only in the universe where Edd/Eddy is 100% confirmed canon. I feel like his dad's greatest concern over Eddy becoming a figure skater was a euphemism for his son being gay and/or not masculine (I think we all think that though lol) and if that really is the case, his opinion of Edd when he starts dating his son will change real fast, maybe even to the point that who knows what he'll do if he finds Edd at his house with his son. Eddy's dad strikes me as a scary man.

As for Ed, I think the feelings are mixed. I think Eddy's family doesn't care for Ed because they aren't sure how to deal with him. Not that they disapprove of him, they just don't want to deal with him. He's just a little too out-there for them. Edd's family, on the other hand, loves Ed. They're used to having a neuro-divergent kid, and though Ed's form of neuro-divergency is much different from Edd's, how they treat him and interact with him is no different. They see Ed for the big, loveable oaf he really is and love having him over. Nothing really changed as they get older because Ed never really changes much.

Comics Fangirl n°1 - Into the fangirlverse:

Today's review is about "What if? Dark: Spider-Gwen"/2023

Welcome to this first "Comics Fangirl", where i use my fangirl super powers I got by being bit by a radioactive super-fan for good, as with great power, MUST also come great responsibility.

Get ready for a true superhero action thriller, packed to the brim with thrills and chills, twists and turns, more super-vilains than you can shake a web at, and of course, non-stop web-slinging ACTION !

So if you're not aware yet, Gwen Stacy is theorized to be a trans wowan in the latest spider-movie, "Across the Spider-verse". Needless to say, most of the "fan base" is up in arms AGAINST the idea. That, in my humble opinion, is because most of the "spider-fan base" is a bunch of racist incels. I, as a TRUE spider-fan hold the only true true. This is f*cking comics, you f*cking nerds. Cry some more, #Gwenistrans. Now that THAT'S sorted out, moving on to my review.

First off, my eyes bleed every time I have to witness Greg Land's... "art". Motherf*cker can't even find something new to trace over, I feel I've seen this "o-face" a BILLION times already (I'm not being funny here, Greg is KNOWN for tracing over porn 😑)

Spoilers for this comics from here on out, you have been warned. Also, minor spoilers for Ghost-Spider's backstory.

It's one of comics most well known event, but in case you didn't know, the main universe Gwen Stacy died years ago, during a fight between Spider-Man and the green goblin. Only this time, it's Peter that dies, hitting his head as he jumps to save Gwen.

I love this alternate universe, because usually the "What ifs" involve someone acting out of character or something ludicrous happening to set the events into motion. Only this time it's Peter not thinking of his personal safety as he saves the woman of his life (MJ and him start dating after Gwen's death), which is 100% in character.

Gwen discovers Peter's secret identity as she drags his lifeless body from the water. Instinctively, she gets rid of his costume. I love the way she INSTANTLY knows what Peter would've wanted, as I'm sure he wouldn't want any of his ennemies knowing who he was, especially now that he can't protect his loved ones.

Instead of just grieving though, our girl Gwen starts scheming. She's going to take revenge on the green goblin. Only problem, she has no super-powers, and no training. That won't stop her, as she enlists Harry Osborn's help to spring a trap for the gliding menace. What she doesn't tell Harry is that she plans on killing the goblin, using her late father's gun.

She baits Osborn senior by acting like Spider-Man survived their last encounter. When the Goblin falls into her trap, she points the gun at him, ready to shoot.

At the last minute though, she changes her mind, proving once more the love and understanding she has for Parker. Peter wasn't a killer, and she won't become one in his name. So this is the part where my eyes started leaking for some odd reason.

Sadly, Harry, overtaken by grief (and probably overcompensating for missing Pete's funeral) shoots the Goblin in the chest, not aware of his true identity. When Norman dies in front of his son, Harry snaps, telling Gwen he holds her responsible for his father's death, exacerbating her already existing guilt.

This is the start of this Gwen's journey as a spider-person. As far as spider-folks go, that's pretty f*cking metal.

So I want to touch on the fact this is now the second "Spider-Gwen" who fights crime WITHOUT SUPER POWERS. First of all, #SlayQueenYaaas. Secondly, I can't help but read this as a metaphor for Gwen being trans.

In case you didn't know (we can't all be virgins, I understand) Ghost-Spider, mostly know as "Spider-Gwen", also doesn't have super-powers at the moment (at least when the writers actually REMEMBER THAT). She lost them during a story where she compensated using a version of the venom symbiote, which she tames in about one issue, one-upping Peter like no one's business.

I may be over thinking this, but I view that fact as a parallel to her transness. Much like the fact she doesn't have the same "powers" as cis people, she doesn't have the powers most spider-people have, and she has to work twice as hard to achieve the same results as them. Also, Ghost-Spider has no secret identity in her universe, and I couldn't help but see that as a trans thing. You KNOW people IRL would out her the first chance they got. Or maybe that's just me, I don't know.

So in case that wasn't clear, I loved this comic. The plot was good, and I loved the art. If you plan on picking it up (I just spoiled most of the plot, but you do you) consider pirating it, in case you don't know Disney funds war criminals.

I give this comic nuff'said/10

ACC Hosts First Welding Showdown

ACC hosted the first Gulf Coast Community College Welding Showdown on November 4 which included students from seven colleges including ACC, Houston Community College, Wharton Junior College, College of the Mainland, Western Texas College, Texas State Technical College and Brazosport College.

“I feel like the turnout was great and I’m already looking forward to next year’s showdown,” said Leroy Brigman, ACC Welding coordinator.

Brigman said the competition was an idea that he and Western Texas College Welding instructor Jeff Stewart first began talking about a few months ago. Jeff Stewart helped Leroy get his pipeline career started after meeting in 2013. Both were glad to see the event come to life and provide students a chance to showcase their skills while also networking with their peers, Brigman said.

“We had 42 competitors from seven different colleges,” he said. “We had more than 100 people at the event.”

ACC students took third place in Tig/Stick, second place in the tig on pipe, the downhill pipe and the uphill stick on plate, and had a student on the first place sculpture team.

“As a team, I think we did extremely well this year,” Brigman said.

In addition to the schools competing in the showdown, Brigman credited sponsors Pipeliners Cloud and Alltex Welding, and the ACC Foundation for making the event possible for students to learn about job opportunities while also meeting with those working in the field. Food was also provided for the competitors from Kenjo's BBQ, Brazoria County Sheriff Bo Stalman, Patrol Sgt. Jason Ringo and deputy Jay Burridge. Judges included Certified Welding Inspectors and construction managers Dee Win, Mark Thompson and Bud Womack.

7. What's one way your OC has changed since you first came up with them?

Arya: I initially wasn't 100% sure if Arya would end up discovering they're trans in my story. it worked out that way though, feels fitting. I'm excited to explore that more.

10. What's an AU that would be interesting to explore with your OC?

im gonna keep it 100... i am not privy to many AUs? i know some but i never really enjoyed exploring them with reading fanfics and such. the fact the twins are girls affect them pretty significantly so maybe a genderswap thing could be pretty interesting.

20. Does your OC have a tendency to get jealous? If so, how does this manifest?

Dorothy: Yes, if she does she just doesn't talk about it.

24. What is an alternative life path your OC might have gone down? How different would their life be if they'd made those decisions?

Bobbie: I can't say that if she stayed closer with Dee the events that have happened in the story certainly wouldn't have happened... but they might've been less likely to. also, its a two way street. Idk if Dee would have reciprocated.
