Tmr fandom, I need a bit of advice/opinion sharing for a fic I'm working on.

I'm writing a longfic based on the movies, so the whole 'WCKD changed our names' thing isn't that big, but I do want to make little nods to the books every now and then just for the fun of it.

The only two characters this comes into play with are Teresa and Chuck.

For Teresa, there is a motif with a bunny that's plot relevant (I'm diving a bit into her childhood), so my idea there is her childhood bunny (the bunny serves as foreshadowing later, it's not as big as it sounds) is named DeeDee or something like that.

With Chuck, I really liked how in the books Thomas just goes 'well that sucks you're Chuck now' and I wanted to keep that, but at the same time I'm working with the idea that in the movies their names weren't changed (because I'm also working with the George & Brenda connection). Chuck has an older brother he gets brought back to by a few WCKD deserters. My idea for him is his official name is Charles, and that's what WCKD called him after they stole him, but both Justin (the older brother) and Thomas just decided to call him Chuck instead. I figured that would be a nice way to connect Chuck's life before WCKD (Justin raised him, so he probably never really heard the name Charles to begin with) with the one during and after.

imagine if at the end of tmr when they were looking at the computers one of the things that they (either newt, minho, or frypan) saw was that Thomas' real name was Stephen and boom they do that whole thing. "Hey Step-hen!" "Please, I beg you, call me Thomas." "Okay Step-hen."

i am so amused. imagine that part where thomas and the rest of the gladers enter this really eerie and mysterious place they’d never been to right. they JUST left the glade – their home of many years – and got through the maze fighting murderous grievers. AND THEN LIKE. as they examine the computers, they see it. they see The Thing. it reads ‘thomas. subject a2. property of wckd.’ and, on the side, it has ‘stephen’ in brackets.

and the gladers just kinda… stare at it for a second. where have they heard that before? why does it look and seem so familiar? AND THEN MINHO EXCITEDLY YELLS “STEP-HEN! UR STEP-HEN!” AS HE POINTS AT THOMAS

everyone’s memories return to when they would tease thomas about his real name being stephen (“haha i don’t remember SHIT except that u were step-hen and ur girlfriend was DEEDEE”). from then on everybody’s memories gradually return and they hide somewhere safe from wckd and everyone is immune and no one dies and they all have fun teasing thomas about step-hen
