5. In the backseat of the car + 17. With snow outside

“I can’t believe we’re doing this,” Isak snorts.

“Do you have any better idea?”

And well, no, he doesn’t, really.

Even makes a triumphant noise when Isak doesn’trespond, hiking the blanket up higher around them. They’d been on the way toEven’s parents’ place, planning on staying there tonight with it beingChristmas Eve in the morning. However when the snow had gotten so heavy Evencould hardly see out the windscreen, he suggested they pull over until itstops.

That’s how they find themselves here. Pulled over onthe side of the road, in each other’s arms in the backseat of Even’s car, withthe heat cranked up full blast.

“Will keeping the heat on kill the battery?” Isakwonders aloud, tucking himself more firmly against Even’s side to ward off thechill.

“I don’t know,” Even admits, huffing out a laugh ashe nuzzles his nose into Isak’s hair. “The snow shouldn’t keep up for muchlonger though.”

“That’s what you hope,”Isak says, glancing out the window at the flurries of snowflakes falling aroundthe car. He has to admit, in the light of the streetlamps, it looks quitebeautiful.

“I’m not really in a hurry to move,” Even tells him,making Isak turn his head to meet his gaze. They share a look, unspoken andaffectionate, and Isak closes his eyes, shaking his head as a smile tugs up thecorners of his mouth. He presses his forehead against Even’s, reaching up withone hand to tangle his fingers with Even’s draped over his shoulder.

Even leans up to kiss his forehead in response beforehe rests their temples together again once more.

“What if the snow doesn’t stop all night and we endedup stranded in your car?” Isak wonders aloud.

“I think it’d be a pretty good Christmas story totell our hypothetical kids in the future.”

Isak laughs, the action causing him to curl more intoEven. “True.”

“Besides,” Even continues quietly and it sounds likethere’s a smile in his voice. “Even if we do get stuck in here, I don’t reallymind.”

“No?” Isak asks, turning his head on Even’s shoulderto meet his gaze.

“No,” Even whispers, shaking his head. “I’ve goteverything I need with me right here.”

Isak smiles, gentle and droopy-eyed, and puckers hislips when Even drops a kiss on them. He closes his eyes then, releasing acontented sigh as he sinks against Even, giving into the warmth of Even’s bodyand settling in for the night.

The snow eventually lets up about a half an hourlater.

They might wait an extra fifteen minutes before theyget back on the road.
