I am not trying to attack you but I strongly disagree with your analysis of voting. I think it is contradictory to believe, simultaneously, that voting for Biden materially does something, but that voting for someone other than Biden because of his policy on Israel does nothing. If voting for one candidate has a marginal effect, then voting for another candidate also has a marginal effect, and vice versa.
In either case, whether my vote does effectively nothing or whether it pushes the meter a little bit toward something better, I believe the correct long-term strategic choice is to vote for a third party, slightly increasing some third party's access to funding and ballot listings, at the cost of slightly decreasing the chance of a Biden victory this year. (Realistically: the only person who can affect Biden's electoral chances on a macro scale is named Joe Biden.)
But even if you choose the short-term strategic option of voting for Biden despite everything, I think it's pretty distasteful and a strategic error to, publicly and in your capacity as an activist, ask others to do the same, as it effectively turns you into an advocate for eternal and unquestioned loyalty to the Democratic party for as long as the U.S. exists, no matter what. If you must vote Biden, at least have the decency to threaten not to, to (potentially) scare party shot-callers into doing something worthwhile occasionally.
thank you for not attacking me, i appreciate it. let's have a conversation as comrades.
i agree that voting third-party can definitely work. in my opinion it is only viable (and quite viable at that) in local elections where upsets against the status quo are easier.
gains have demonstrably been won in municipalities that elect third party candidates. i would argue that those candidates then inevitably have a hell of a time once they enter the larger arena of american jockeying, corruption, tradition and outright evil, but that's a larger conversation.
do you think a third party candidate will win the 2024 presidential election?
#good faith#thank you for the thoughtful ask#american electoralism is a dangerous joke#we're talking about politics but please everyone concentrate your time and effort on organising#continue to fight gather en masse to raise our voices in furious defense against genocide#apply pressure to the points of production and distribution where we can have an impact to save lives

ok question if hypothetically I were to make a html + css template for making custom pokémon teams (cough such as for OCs cough) in the Bulbapedia widget style, would anyone else be interested in using it? if so I will go into this trying to write it as an actual decent template
#from the writer's den#void talks#this will mainly be regarding input options but also impact how many types I would need to template out#since if I just do my own ocs I can get away with ignoring a ton of type combos etc#since a ton of types are only very barely represented#e.g. delta's lucario is the only fighting type I think#diana's gabite is the only ground type#zeta's togekiss and universe's walking wake are the only fairy types#(and tbh thats assuming I keep universe's team as it is.)#but like there's fully NO rock types here#nor bug#ice is rep'd only by triste's weavile and zeta's lapras#and like. do those really count as ice types#death has a chandelure and oscar has houndoom but those are the only fire types#if gengar werent a poison type (which lbr why the fuck is it poison) then the only poison type would be delta's roserade#and the only reason there's a reasonable electric type rep is because of karyn#anyway point being there's a serious overrepresentation of dark ghost and psychic#like actually#anyway. im rambling but you get the point. uneven distribution.#all these teams are skewed as hell in this own ways.#the only person whose team is even slightly balanced is oscar's.#and even then it's only because his team includes electric + grass + fire types#and at least one fairy type move for coverage#but like. other than that. all these teams have at least one MAJOR flaw#delta's comes in second in terms of type spread but gets hard walled by a singular good fire type#what with her two dual steel types and her two grass#with only gallade and meowstic (both with mostly status / defensive moves) not weak to fire#karyn has good offensive coverage bc her vaporeon knows both shadow ball and ice beam but it's still not Great#what with her defensive type chart being water / electric+psychic / electric / water (again) / electric+flying / water+flying#at best she clears ground types with vaporeon and struggles through a competent grass specialist with kilowattrel

[hometown redacted] changes a little bit every time I go back and it's usually for worse, but it's a mixed bag.
Example: two of the biggest topics at various events with family and friends this week were the installation of [hometown redacted]'s first traffic roundabout and associated controversy about whether we need something so European in town, and the new Bucee's gas station just outside of town which I've gathered is an excellent place to stop for a shit on account of the cleanliness of the bathrooms.
#my grandmother made both my brother and i separately drive her around the roundabout a few times#theyre apparently installing new ramps at the bucees exit just to handle all the additional traffic its caused#everyone is pissed about the new amazon distribution center#i kicked a squirrel in self-defense leaving breakfast yesterday in a nice part of town#honestly i think it was the first time weve gone back that has felt relieving instead of stressful#and ofc corgi had a fantastic time seeing her cousin#[hometown redacted]#shapoopy says

Hi, I am up at 2 AM. I think was actually onto something from a previous post.
I was going back to some parts of The Dark Forest to grab quotes and I saw this:
Together, the 5,500 crewmembers were like an infant who had been cut from its cord, then cruelly tossed into the abyss of space. Like that infant, there nothing they could do but cry. Yet Zhang Beihai’s calm eyes were a strong force field that upheld the stability of the formation and helped them maintain their military poise. Children cast aside into the endless night needed a father most of all, and now, like Dongfang Yanxu, they found the power of that father in the person of this ancient soldier.
#transmission from the captain#(i was specifically wondering about the idea of choice regarding chu yan and the transition from the lack of it to providing it)#(headcanon territory but i was ruminating on the potential absence of choice with him due to his upbringing)#(the way he might have grown up in the space fleet as part of the new generation of soldiers highlights that possibility)#(while beihai notes that a difference between the new soldiers is how they base their decisions based on possible outcomes)#(as opposed to performing duty regardless of the outcomes)#(which there's a difference between outcomes and the means to get here alongside if the outcomes are actually reached)#(some outcomes are unavailable to you and there's other outcomes that have many options to get there)#(the backdrop of war and crisis definitely eliminated many outcomes for space faring humans)#(which the imagery of an infant in the abyss of space coincides with that in a way and the idea of being raised for this crisis)#(this is all general stuff about the space fleet and speculation rather than chu yan himself so let's get to that)#(what i find interesting is how he didn't give the option of returning to earth at first but then gave it after the broadcast)#(which! the idea of new choices! beihai said it himself in his iconic scene!)#(“...could we have made this choice before? absolutely not. but now we can make it...”)#(how new choices pertain to outcomes is that what is /perceived/ as impossible turns out to be possible which opens up new decisions)#(the way chu yan gave the choice of the group vote with the broadcast too which was something that couldn't be done on earth)#(you can tell i've been listening to zhou shen's 人是 quite a bit haha but it really fits chu yan though [at least how i interpret him])#(“you can destroy everything I hold dear / but you still can't rob me of my choice” <- lyrics from zhou shen's song)#(which ough... that really makes his revenge against trisolaris really gratifying with that in mind actually)#(because i discuss this in an upcoming post about the reason why the swordholder role was a lone position was moral responsibility and risk#(which making that a choice when that wasn't available before highlights the development of decisions humanity can make and morality)#(in this instance- he is not only avenging for the death of his comrades [people he could have grown up with!!])#(but he is also rectifying the choices that were robbed from humanity in a way)#(however this is also a taste of the new morals humanity will have to develop but chu yan has a thing about distributing responsibility)#(which actually does add to the idea of metaphorical parentalhood)#(rather than just plunging humanity into newfound morals- he is cultivating this development slowly through!! choice!!)#(which lessens the moral burden overall for everyone)#(anyways the next post will be about chuzhang and their differences in how they tackle morals)#(because chu yan focuses more on distribution and making responsibility a contested matter [see: defensive vs offensive])#(while beihai tries to make responsibility solely on himself)

Even in food service, there is the demand for exponential growth. Each store has a profit target you're expected to hit every quarter. Each quarter the target gets bigger and bigger. The only way to make sure you hit or exceed that target is to increase sales or cut costs. Sales can only go so far though, so at a certain point there is the understandable temptation (not justifiable, but understandable) for your manager to start cutting hours. Once they do, your location has entered a Death Spiral.
The thing about the Death Spiral is it is nearly impossible to escape. It starts innocuous enough, with a few hours getting shaved off every week. And true enough at first you probably didn't need those hours. They were the slack, the extra hands that helped distribute the work and made it easier on everyone. You might not even notice they're gone. Maybe the morning rush is a little harder to handle, maybe there isn't as much time to chat as there used to be. But on the whole nothing has changed. You're still hitting your sales quota and, hey, everyone seems to be working a little harder. That's good, right?
Then the next quarter rolls around. You exceeded your quota. Upper management is very excited. But now your new quota is even higher than it would have been if you had simply performed to expectations. You raise prices a bit, push more expensive drinks, and sure, cut a few more hours. Bit by bit the slack gets tighter. The fat gets trimmed. All because continual growth, continual improvement, is not just demanded, but expected.
The endgame of the Death Spiral is the expectation that every worker will operate at 100% efficacy 100% of of the time, and that nothing will go wrong ever. It never reaches this point, as any food service worker will tell you, shit goes wrong. Service gets worse, you lose a few customers, and you miss your quota. This is the point of no return, because the only way to solve the problem is to add more hours. But there's no way upper management will approve spending more money. On a failing store? Don't be ridiculous. Maybe get those numbers up and we'll consider adding hours back. But the only way to get those numbers up is with no hours. It's a Catch-22. You're trapped. Slowly, inevitably, the store fails, and then closes.
The Death Spiral is a doomed strategy, but it is the one corporations push in response to investor pressure. It tricks workers into more work for the promise of relief later, if they do well and succeed, not realizing they'll only be asked to do even more next time. So how do you fight it? Know your worth. Don't let anyone give you more work without some kind of kickback. Don't fool yourself into thinking that being indispensable will lead to a reward later.
But the best defense? Join a union.

In the article "Premier Body Armor Fortis Level III+ Loadout Review — One LEO’s Take" on The Armory Life, veteran police officer and firearms instructor Alan M. Rice reviews the Premier Body Armor Fortis Level III+ Loadout, focusing on its effectiveness for protection against rifle threats. He highlights that many officers, especially in rural areas, must provide their own gear and that while ballistic vests are usually supplied, rifle-rated plates often are not. Rice praises the Fortis plates for being lightweight yet providing substantial protection, and he outlines his personal testing experience, noting the gear's comfort and ease of use during extended wear on a training course. With insights on the integrated Medical/Admin/Assault Pouch (MAAP) and Premier’s advanced trauma mitigation technology, the article serves as a comprehensive evaluation of the Fortis Loadout's value for law enforcement officers.

It's a rough world out there for people who were teenagers during the exact slice of gaming history where indie video games had become feasible to develop and distribute globally, but the definition of "indie" didn't yet encompass corporate studios and million-dollar budgets. They'll tell you their favourite game when they were a kid was, like, a point-and-click visual novel whose protagonist dreams they're a vast formless sea monster that learns about the concept of colours after finding a discarded helium balloon, or a hypertext fiction/precision platformer hybrid exploring gender as a mechanism of social control, and you think they're either being pretentious or deliberately fucking with you, but no, that's just what the indie gaming scene was like for a couple of years there. The sea monster thing got a front-page feature on the same site that made Bloons Tower Defense a household name – it was literally played by millions of people.

regarding ICE as someone who has done some reporting on it and talked to both ICE and immigration lawyers
in different states, there are often different levels of law enforcement with ICE. california, for example, has the california values act and so in many jurisdictions, law enforcement is less likely to involve itself with immigration matters. pay attention to the history of your area's compliance with ICE. it also means law enforcement may not know ICE is around.
ICE vehicles do not have to be marked. oftentimes their enforcement and removal cars are not marked as "border patrol" or "ICE" or anything. their plates are usually "exempt" plates.
ICE officers are SUPPOSED to wear identifiable clothing and gear when performing operations, but are often in plainclothes, even during operations.
for reasons above, it might not be obvious that ICE is in your area or that a car you see is involved with ICE operations. FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH LOCAL COMMUNITIES. trusted nonprofits and people who work with undocumented and nonstatus people will often be keeping tabs on ICE. law enforcement in some areas may know as well. find out if ICE is in your area through vetting sources and then keep tabs on them too.
try to provide information in as many languages as you can.
tell people: ICE NEEDS A JUDICIAL WARRANT TO ENTER YOUR HOME--not one signed by a higher up ICE official, it MUST be signed by a judge. ICE may insist that they don't need a warrant, that they operate differently. they are using scare tactics.
lastly, regardless of your immigration status: KNOW YOUR RIGHTS. you can access the Immigration Legal Resource Center's red cards page, which can express your rights in a legally defensible way when ICE comes to your door. print some for your community. distribute them to people. they can be a useful resource! (https://www.ilrc.org/red-cards-tarjetas-rojas)
stay safe and protect each other, especially the most vulnerable groups among us.

Israel says it will expand its offensive across most of Gaza
AFP A Palestinian woman holding a child lines up for a hot meal at a food distribution point at the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.AFP
Israel's defence minister has announced its military will soon "vigorously" expand its offensive throughout most of Gaza.
Israel Katz also said the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had completed the takeover of a "security zone" in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, separating the cities of Rafah and Khan Younis.
Israel's military also issued evacuation orders for Khan Younis and its surrounding areas, saying it was preparing to carry out strikes in response to the launch of projectiles from Gaza, which Hamas has claimed responsibility for.
Israel resumed its offensive against Hamas on 18 March following the collapse of a two-month ceasefire.
Since then, it has seized large areas of Gaza, displacing hundreds of thousands of Gazans once more.
