A song that reminds me of them: “Counting Stars” by OneRepublic

What they smell like: Wood smoke, and I'm not sure why I think that. Though in all canons except the novel, he probably smells like stale liquor since he keeps spilling all over himself whenever he drinks!

OTP: Wangxian, but specifically their CQL dynamic if they were also allowed to make out and have dramatic declarations of love in front of JGY's salad.

NOTP: ....... Novel Wangxian, lol. I simply do not vibe with whatever is going on there. (I'm guessing things like the excessive jealousy and the sooo funny~ continual harassment are genre tropes, but I don't like them in romcoms and I don't like them here.)

Favorite platonic/familial relationships: The dysfunctional enmeshment with Jiang Cheng is SO MUCH, and I love his Science Besties dynamic with Wen Qing. I also enjoy seeing him interact with the juniors once he shifts into Teacher Mode; he's so good at engaging them!

A popular headcanon I disagree with: A-YUAN IS NOT HIS CHILD OH MY GOD. Fandom understand that adults and kids can form meaningful relationships outside of familial roles challenge.

The position they sleep in: This man SPRAWLS. It's good that Wangji goes to sleep earlier than he does, because otherwise the bed would be fully taken up by limbs.

A crossover or AU I’d loved to see them in: This isn't a crossover or AU exactly, but one of my fave classes in undergrad was on magic in the ancient Mediterranean, and I'd love to see WWX showing up there during his censorship-mandated roadtrip in CQL because the Roman Empire-era concept of magic in that region is like, ALL demonic cultivation. Regular people were out here writing curse tablets wherein they called on ghosts or demons or deities to do their bidding. I need WWX to get there and go "wtfffff" and also "aww they're so quaint" because their methods are so limited.

[] The BM community is filled with people who were turned away by villages or have no where left to go, so WWX helps them and let’s the people settle in BM.

People love him, even the Yiling residents, so if shady cultivators come to extort information about their laozu, well, who really feels like speaking today? No one.

[] The Wei disciples are called “Guides” instead of “Demonic Cultivators” because technically they don’t cultivate with resentful energy.

They’ve studied it so they know how it behaves, how it would react, and how to influence it.

A Guide’s main duty is to reform a spirit’s malicious intent before putting them to rest. They will take measures to change their resentment into something neutral, or if possible, tranquil.

It may be harder than normal exorcism, but it ensures that most spirits will end up in the reincarnation cycle without leaving any bubbling resentment in the world. Because what they do isn’t “cleansing” the energy out of the spirit, they convert it into something less malicious.

Any sect device or technique that would include you having to absorb any type of resentful energy in order for it to activate , has been modified by WWX.

Talismans? They absorb resentment from the surroundings instead of directly from a person.

Empathy? WWX invents a watered down version of it called “Espy” where it will possess a certain object instead of directly controlling the person’s body. (empathy is rarely used by his disciples, he’s only allowed it if the situation is dire or there are no other choices)

Basically speaking, WWX has totally baby-proofed everything.

[] The YilingWei Sect worship the HeiBai Wuchang and because of their continued efforts to reform evil spirits and send them into the reincarnation cycle, the HeiBai Wuchang has blessed them with long lives.

The HeiBai Wuchang are two deities that are tasked to escort the dead to the underworld. The Black Guard lead the evil while the White Guard soothed the good souls. They punish the wicked and bless the good. They are also worshipped for great fortune.

(Please keep in mind that I am not a native and my knowledge of chinese mythologies are only basic, I am not a reliable source for these things.)

[] Every resident of the BM hold a whistle, it’s a small thing that’s colored in black with a single character written in red ink to match with chenqing and it’s red tassel.

The whistle is multi-purposed. Originally WWX had crafted it as a means for keeping the residents from absorbing resentful energy(since at the time he hadn’t fully established a human-friendly area within the BM).

It was tuned to play a high note which was the key part of the song “Cleansing”, all they had to do was blow on the whistle for a few hours everyday and they would be kept safe from resentment.

Then soon after it was also being used as a token for the barriers. The character inscribed in red ink is actually a small array that lets the holder be recognized by the barriers and be let in.

Wen Ning suggested that they should make some sort of code only they would understand, in case there is a situation where they cannot speak or cannot reach someone in time.

They’ve made a small little tradition with their community where they play the whistle at night, just before they sleep. The sound that follows the first whistle sooths everyone, knowing that they aren’t alone.

They’ve also made it some sort of ritual to play the whistle while sending off their disciples to night hunts, in a way that tells them “good luck”

Regarding the "no mxtx bottom feels feminine", it only happens to me with Xie Lian that I see him looking like an actual girl in drawing, even the manhua and donghua. I didn't read the books so then he's not like that? Because no matter how hard I try to not see him like that, whenever I see a piece (official or fanart) of hualian, they look aesthetically like a straight couple to me most of the time and that's the vibe I get (I mean, it's not that I actively see him like that but as in, if I didn't know anything about tgcf and saw those drawing, I'd think XL is a girl, not even a femboy but straight up a girl... people can say wwx is feminized, whether in a positive or negative way, but it's still obvious he's a boy imo?)

No, XL is not described as feminine or girly in the novel. When he dressed up as a bride, Fuyao's reaction was like this 🥴 and he said "if I were the ghost groom, and someone gave me a woman like you, I'd kill her". It's in the text that anyone can tell bride!XL is a young man, handsome young man.

In comparison, in Qiang Jin Jiu, Shen Lanzhou is described as looking like a woman:

In Qian Qiu, some guy wants to make a painting of Shen Qiao because he thinks Shen Qiao looks like a deity/immortal. Bai Rong once said to Shen Qiao "DaoZhang, you're so pretty, if you dress as a woman, you would be 傾國傾城 (an expression to describe extraordinarily beautiful woman, literally means cities and nations would fall for you)"

Not really a fan of XL's visual design (be it manhua, or donghua or official illustration), I think he's passable, HC's designs are great tho.

In which MXY looks like WWX, and LWJ agrees to look after him once he's trown out of Koi Tower. He's to marry into his household, but in exchange, he'd have to stay silent. For the pretense of him being WWX would break everytime he speaks. He didn't plan on falling in love with his husband, a husband whose heart will forever remain out of his reach. __ Then WWX is resurected in his own body thanks to NHS's scheming.

Mo Xuanyu first met Lan Wangji after he was thrown out of Koi Tower. Rumors about him trying to seduce his half brother had started to spread and Jin Guangyao had no choice but to remove him from the sect. The Jin guards had called him horrible names and then shoved him from the stairs of Koi Tower. The fall had felt like it lasted for an eternity before he finally rolled to a stop at the bottom.

He didnt know how long he laid there, bruised and hurting and crying into the dirt, before the faintest sound of silk robes made him look up. Hangung-Jun was with no doubt the most beautiful man he had ever seen. Pure and cold and breath taking, like a deity untouched by the filth of the world around him. Mo Xuanyu was in such awe of him. He was certain that he fell in love that very moment.

"Come," Hangung-Jun said. Without hesitation Mo Xuanyu scrambled to his feet and followed on shaking legs. Hangung-Jun could have led him to the Burial Mounds or the edge of the world and Mo Xuanyu would have followed. Instead he brought him to the Cloud Recesses. He brought him to his home.

"Thank you," Mo Xuanyu tried to say.

"Do not speak," Hangung-Jun ordered swiftly. "Never speak."

They did not have a proper wedding or even a simple tea ceremony. They did not wear red and their bows were done in the privacy of the jingshi with only Zuwu-Jun to witness it. Mo Xuanyu was not unhappy with their wedding. What right did he have to be unhappy when this was how Hangung-Jun wanted it? He would do anything, anything, that his husband asked of him. He dedicated himself to being a good, obedient husband who did whatever Hangung-Jun asked of him.

But then one day Zuwu-Jun came to the jingshi looking regretful. "You will be moving out of the jingshi immediately," he explained. "A house in Caiyi Town has been set up for you for the time being."

Mo Xuanyu did not ask why they were leaving the jingshi or when his husband would be joining him in Caiyi or why they were not simply being moved into a new house inside the Cloud Recesses. He only nodded and busied himself packing his belongings.

As Zuwu-Jun led him out of the Cloud Recesses they passed a man in dark robes shouting about how he refused to be parted from his donkey. Mo Xuanyu wanted to scold him for making such a racket and disturbing the peace of the Cloud Recesses, but said nothing because he is a good, obedient husband.

The house in Caiyi town was lovely. It was small and close enough to the lake that he could fall asleep listening to the water. He was given a servant who cooked and cleaned for him and Zuwu-Jun left him with more then enough money to last a lifetime. Zuwu-Jun left and did not return. Hangung-Jun never joined him.

Four months later all of Caiyi town was bustling with gossip and business. Hangung-Jun was getting married to the newly resurrected Yilling Patriarch! Mo Xuanyu wanted to scoff and correct people. "Hangung-Jun is already married," he wanted to say. "I have been a good, obedient husband who does as he's told and Hangung-Jun would never throw me away," he wanted to shout. "I am Hangung-Jun's husband, stop spreading such horrible lies," he wanted to scream.

He told himself that they were only spreading rumors because they didn't realize who he was. No one in Caiyi knew because Mo Xuanyu was unable to tell them because his husband requested that he never speak. He had faith that Hangung-Jun would come home and correct all of the townspeople. He spent his days daydreaming of his husband returning to him and rescuing him from malicious rumors again.
